When Dungeons & Dragons was first published in 1974, the 1,000-print run sold out in the first year. The adventure game continued to gain popularity throughout the 1980s until it came under an extraordinary assault from groups who feared that it promoted devil worship and witchcraft. Like so many other pop-culture controversies of the past, these claims were found mostly to be without merit. But enough parents had heard the news reports, and the damage was done. Those who played D&D and other tabletop role-playing games were ostracized. Doomed to spend Friday nights in their parents' basement battling orcs and trolls. Over time, the moral panic over Dungeons & Dragons shifted to other things, including movies and especially video games and RPGs began to enjoy a resurgence. Fast forward to today, and people from all walks of life can be found playing tabletop role-playing games to escape the high-stress world in which we live. Add a global pandemic and the ability to play these games remotely into the mix, and you have a recipe for an RPG renaissance, which is what's happening. And that brings us to our first Stolendroids Podcast episode of 2021. Listen as we discuss our experiences with tabletop role-playing games. We also get into what some of the different game systems are and why we believe TTRPGs are seeing such a surge in popularity. And you know that we're going to talk about the newest addition to the Stolendroids family, The Lettuce Inn, as new Game Master Erika joins the conversation. So give the episode a listen, and then let us know what you think. Just when we thought things were starting to calm down, 2020 struck again. To pit one entertainment powerhouse against the other and call the matter settled doesn't work. And while the argument was once pretty straightforward, things have become vastly more complicated as each company's reach has grown.DC and Marvel both bring something unique to the table. However, what that is varies depending on which medium we're discussing. Comic books? Video games? What about movies?Listen as the Stolendroids panelists break down each company's strengths and decide who is the better of the two as only we can. A good sidekick will help make the protagonist a better character. They will help improve the story. And they will point out "holy rusted metal." The U.S. Constitution requires that the President periodically "give to the Congress Information of the State of the Union, and recommend to their Consideration such measures as he shall judge necessary and expedient." This was originally often accomplished via a written report, but during the last century, it has become common for the President to deliver his report in person during the State of the Union Address. But if you look at the shenanigans that have taken place during recent States of the Union Addresses, we decided that we needed in on that action. This is a very special episode. This is part one of a three part episode spanning three days over multiple podcasts. Part two will be on Stolendroids on Tuesday, and part three will be on Cutscenes and Cupcakes on Wednesday. It was a lot of fun getting together with so many great podcasters to talk about Pirates of the Caribbean on “International Talk Like a Pirate Day.” Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl came out in 2003 and launched a major tent pole movies franchise for Disney, before they had Marvel or Star Wars. This made Johnny Depp a household name and turned Orlando Bloom into a heartthrob. It was action and adventure and everything just worked. The first installment was a huge hit and pirates became all the rage. The sequels never seemed to get to the same level of quality that the first one did, but there are still plenty of fun moments, and each one was a box office smash. Enough that they made five films over 14 years. That’s not too shabby. And then there’s hugging and smelling celebrities. Val tells us everything we need to know about that. From Sting to Doug Jones to Richard Marx. It gets weird, but a good weird. So, it’s a typical Movies That Make Us episode. Plenty of tangents, but we also talk a little bit about the movies. At the end of the day, we give a rating and grade to the entire Pirates of the Caribbean series. What did you think of Pirates of the Caribbean as a series? Let us know! Decade-old spoilers abound as the Texas Chapter of Stolendroids is called to order. Collin takes a trip to The Lone Star State only to learn that he needs to avoid anything with multiple legs that crawls on the ground. This includes chiggers, rabbits, and whatever it was that attempted to rush him as he walked outside. (A chupacabra perhaps?) Thankfully he survived his near-fatal attack so that we could discuss some of what came out of San Diego Comic-Con, specifically Marvel's Phase 4 news from outside my daughter's princess tent. (Spoiler warning: We couldn't fit inside.)That's not all we talk about though. Prepare to not be surprised as you learn that Alan Moore doesn't like yet another Hollywood adaptation of one of his works. He has a history of placing curses on projects that he disapproves of but I have a suggestion for him. I think in this case it would be more effective to buy everyone involved in HBO's Watchmen a chili cheese Blizzard from Dairy Queen. Doing that would shut down production for at least a week and there are no messy curses to deal with. I know that it's more complicated than this, but basically, chaos theory states that a small change at a starting position can lead to large, unpredictable changes over time. That pretty much sums up this episode. As I'm preparing to move to Texas, Collin got a whole bunch of guests to join in on the fun at Watchtower Cafe. Joining us this week are the team from Movies That Make Us, Rachel from Create Loud (which isn't a Stolendroids show but she's our friend so she's always welcome), and a few of our writers: Tom and Justin. Mike, the proprietor of Watchtower also makes an appearance. (Thanks to him for letting us take over part of his place. The Silver Age of comics (circa 1956-1970) was a glorious time. It was a time where some of the greatest and most influential comic book artists were doing their greatest and most influential work. With legends like Jack Kirby and Steve Ditko teaming up with Stan Lee to create iconic characters, including Spider-Man and The Fantastic Four at Marvel, and Neal Adams completely revolutionizing the way we see our superheroes over at DC, there was no shortage of amazing artwork in comic books.Comic book historian, author, and lecturer, Arlen Schumer, has taken it upon himself to teach others about just how influential and important the Silver Age actually was to comic book storytelling. Zohner is flying solo this time thanks to Collin going and getting himself married off, but is he really solo if he's interviewing guests from Salt Lake Comic Con FanX 2017? Well, yes; but only for a few minutes.Anyhoo, while we were at FanX 2017, Zohner had the chance to chat with Arrow and Supernatural actress Amy Gumenick, comic book legend Marv Wolfman, Khary Payton from The Walking Dead and numerous cartoons including Young Justice and Teen Titans Go!, the voice of Johnny Bravo, and about a million other characters, Jeff Bennett, best-selling authors Larry Correia and D.J. Butler, and writer of DC Super Hero Girls, Shea Fontana. We wish to extend a special thanks to these very talented individuals for taking a few moments to chat with us. Please take a few minutes to support their work, if you aren't already doing so.And speaking of supporting talented individuals, this weeks episode is brought to you by Melissa Mae. Melissa is an amazing artist who frequents Salt Lake Comic Con, so you may be familiar with her stuff already, but if you're not, you don't need to wait until September to check out her work, you can visit her site now. And while you're there, be sure to let her know that the guys from Stolendroids sent you. See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

Because it's an awesome film that you should see no matter what day it comes out on,2. Because April 1 is Stolendroids' birthday (both the site AND the podcast), and this would be an awesome gift to us. And finally . . .3. The Borg. (Sort of.) This week we’re joined by Carl from the Stolen Droids podcast and the gang from the Trek Mate podcast. We set out to discuss the Borg but we took a few unexpected turns down some transwarp conduits… so in the end we were only “Borgish.” In news we look at the slew of movie rumors that have been swirling this week including Cumberbatch as Khan, the appearance of Klingons, and a possible guest spot for Leonard Nimoy. We also have news about Creation’s New Jersey con and Destination Star Trek London, plus a lot of Star Trek Online news including the May schedule for rotating feature episodes that offer unique awards and the Caitian Atrox Carrier. And on a very sad note, we remember composer Joel Goldsmith, who passed away on April 29 and the age of 54.
