The month starts with a government shutdown as Arlan Suderman of StoneX joins The Final Bell to break down what that shutdown means plus a look at the day's markets. Key topics include: why grains rallied after a slow start, Trump's comments centering China talks on soybeans, and the partial government shutdown. Arlan talks about the reports that won't be released: crop progress, WASDE, export sales. Is it doom and gloom or is that overstated? Suderman weighs in on the economic impact of the shutdown and why it leaves commodity markets flying blind, lacking USDA reports that are the envy of the world.
It was another red day across the boards despite some overnight strength. On today's Final Bell, Arlan Suderman of StoneX joins to sort through the market drivers. Key topics include: China talks: Rumors of a Trump trip to Beijing stir overnight optimism, but rare earth minerals—not soybeans—may be the real bargaining chip. Grains: Corn stalls at chart resistance, soybeans pressured by biofuel uncertainty, and wheat weighed down by Black Sea competition. Fed rate cut: Why a 25-basis-point move could still ripple into commodities through the dollar and export competitiveness. Harvest update: Early yield reports are highly mixed—strong in the west, disappointing in the east. Livestock: Cattle trade softens despite surprising firmness in cash. Suderman explains what's really moving the markets and what to watch as trade, policy, and harvest collide.

Introducing the Band:Your hosts Scot Bertram (@ScotBertram) and Jeff Blehar (@EsotericCD) are joined by guest Peter Suderman. Suderman is the features editor at Reason magazine. Find him online at Reason or @petersuderman on Twitter/X.Peter's Music Pick: The Dismemberment PlanThe name might sound like you're in for a three-and-a-half hour barrage of trendily obscure post-punk music with this episode, and you could not be more wrong. Though we're not going to lie: The first album and a half from Washington, D.C.'s mid-to-late Nineties indie-rock darlings do feel an awful lot like the twitchily inchoate remnants of the Bad Brains/Fugazi regional hardcore scene of the Eighties with a healthy dose of West Coast Minutemen math-rock thrown in as metric ballast. What they quickly settled into around the turn of the century however, with albums like The Dismemberment Plan Is Terrified, Emergency & I, and Change, was not just a genre-defining statement of what “indie-rock” was supposed to be about during what we now know retrospectively -- and jadedly -- as “the PitchforkMedia era” of rock criticism, but timeless music that can still get a crowd of downcast nerds to start dancing uncontrollably as they muse about that time they too got ruinously drunk on New Year's Eve.It is quite possible that (outside of that one Robbie Fulks episode) Political Beats may be covering its most obscure rock group to date with the Dismemberment Plan. Click now, remedy that, and open yourself to a life of dangerous possibilities.

Andy Suderman, CTO of Fairwinds, joins host Robert Blumen to talk about standing up a kubernetes cluster. Their discussion covers build-your-own versus managed clusters provided by cloud services, and how to determine the number of kubernetes clusters an organization needs. Andy describes best practices for automating cluster provisioning, and offers recommendations about customizations and opinionation of cloud service providers, choice of container registry, and whether you should run complementary services such as CI and monitoring on the same cluster. The episode also examines the day 0/day 1/day 2 lifecycle, cluster auto-scaling at the cloud service level, integrating stateful services and other cloud services into your cluster, and kubernetes secrets and alternatives. Finally, they consider the container-network interface (CNI), ingress and load balancers, and provisioning external DNS and TLS certificates for cluster services.
