Surprise tests in British pubs found that more than 40 percent of the pints were served warmer than 55 degrees Fahrenheit. One pint was 95 degrees. • Research shows that buying a 3-year-old used car and driving it as long as it is efficient saves 40 percent over buying a new car and doing the same. • About 157,000 American fathers — less than 1 percent of all dads — have elected to stay home and care for the kids full time. • Forty-seven percent of Americans say Hollywood movies aren't as good as they used to be. Thirty-three percent say they're getting better. • Eighty percent of college juniors and seniors claim they know how to take care of their money after they graduate. But 32 percent of them have missed a credit card payment and nearly a quarter have bounced a check. • Sharks get the headlines, but Bambi is the real killer. The Isabell family (in Perkasie) discovered they had a big bee problem. On Friday night, after Tropical Storm Fay moved through the area, the family found dark stains dripping down their walls. They assumed it was storm damage, but got closer to see for themselves. It was sticky. And it smelled like honey. And that's what it was. The Isabells said they did a little detective work and traced the bees to the top of the house. They had seen a rogue bee now and then near the attic, but never thought much of it. They called in The Bee Man who came out for a thermal scan and an assessment. He came back later to extract the colony. WACKY-BUT-TRUE: MAN ALLEGEDLY TIED USED CONDOMS TO CARS _ (CAUTION) Police have made an arrest in connection to a series of indecent acts committed in Mississauga, Ontario, Canada. This summer has beaten temperature records. Throughout July, Europe sweltered in baking heat. Paris hit 42 degrees centigrade, Berlin 40 and London 39. It is projected that at current rates of climate change many cities across the world will be uninhabitable by 2070 due to the heat.  Such extremes will become increasingly common until it’s the norm not the exception. So what can we do in the face of increasing temperatures? Host James Haines-Young asks how we can heatproof our cities. He speaks to Professor Shipworth, Professor of Energy and the Built Environment at University College London and Karim El Jisr from See Nexus who is already living in a city of the future, built to withstand summer temperatures in the UAE without pumping out masses of Co2. On this episode of Bayfield County Wild, Co-hosts Nancy Christopher and Mary Motiff, director of Bayfield County Tourism, speak with Fred Erickson, the third generation owner of Erickson’s Orchard, one of the area’s oldest and largest apple orchards and berry farms. They discuss the history of Fred’s family business and the upcoming Strawberry Festival, as well as other fun events happening throughout the month of July. Wisconsin Lake Superior Scenic Byway It’s a spectacular time of year to enjoy the outdoors in Bayfield County! One of the best ways to explore the area is to drive the Wisconsin Lake Superior Scenic Byway, a 70-mile stretch of State Highway 13 that goes up and around the Bayfield peninsula. But don’t just assume you’re getting the whole experience from the road alone: What’s truly magical is the natural, cultural, geographical and historical beauty surrounding it. There are kiosks within each community along the byway, which provide maps, guides and other information so take your time, pull over and explore! More at www.lakesuperiorbyway.org. Experience Bayfield Culture There are many ways to experience the history and culture of Bayfield County during the summer, including: The reservation of the Red Cliff Band of Lake Superior Chippewa is located three miles north of Bayfield. Experiencing the serenity of Frog Bay Tribal National Park, the lakefront campgrounds and the fun to be had at Legendary Waters Resort and Casino are all recommended. The Northern Great Lakes Visitor Center is open daily and has interactive exhibits, an observation tower, movie theater, historical archives, gift shop and more. The Apostle Islands National Lakeshore is truly a sight to behold. The National Lakeshore is home to the largest collection of lighthouses in North America, and there are tours and cruises available to give you incredible views. The visitor center at the Park headquarters (located in a beautiful old brownstone building) also shows a great documentary about the islands, and offers other resources and interpretive opportunities. A new visitor center is currently being built at Little Sand Bay. A huge part of the history and culture of Bayfield County can be experienced at Big Top Chautauqua, a legendary music and performance venue. Their house shows are based on the history and culture of the area, telling a story and entertaining attendees with songs and visuals. This is all above and beyond their vast concert lineup every summer, attracting some of the biggest names in music! Erickson’s Orchard Fred Erickson’s grandparents, Martin and Christine, planted their first apple tree around the turn of the century (circa 1910). In 1954, Fred’s parents Jim and Muriel took over the orchard, with Muriel crafting her renowned apple cider donuts. Today, Fred and his family have about 15 different apple varieties on the oldest and largest apple and berry farm in Bayfield County, as well as plums, peaches, strawberries, blueberries and raspberries. They also have a couple of shops on premises, plus they make about 14,000 gallons of apple cider per year through their processing plant! Homemade jams, jellies and their new hard cider are also available.  USA Today has named the Bayfield Apple Festival one of the 10 best fall harvest fests in the country. Fred’s dad Jim had come up with the idea for the festival, which launched in 1963, due to a flat tire. While broken down in Duluth on the way to North Dakota, people gathered around to try Jim’s apples and they couldn’t believe they were grown in Bayfield. So instead of bringing apples out of town, Jim had the thought of putting on a festival to attract people to Bayfield. Now, the festival brings over 60,000 people to Bayfield and it’s truly a community-wide event. The Strawberry Festival dates back to 1936 but had not been a consistent annual event. About two years ago, Fred brought the fest back to coincide with the peak of the year’s berry crop. The festival takes place July 6, 7 and 8 this year, and features specialty food items, vendors, artisans, live music and anything that has to do with strawberries. This may soon be a reality in one Asian country, where there were only four known believers 25 years ago.  This month, an effort is underway to accomplish this challenging task. In this episode, hear the moving story of an effort where Reach Beyond is partnering with two other ministries to reach an entire country for Christ through local radio. Reach Beyond President Wayne Pederson and co-host Jon Fugler interview Ed Cannon about this exciting project. Ed is the President ofFEBC (Far East Broadcasting Company). Throughout July, Moody Radio is presenting the country to its listeners, culminating with two full days of live broadcasts July 30-31. The goal is to plant three FM stations in key cities in this country. As a result, 90% of the country will be covered with the gospel through stations established in partnership with FEBC. Hear all the details in this episode and find out how you can listen live on Moody Radio. LINKS AND RESOURCES MENTIONED IN THIS EPISODE FEBC  Moody Radio

[Roundtable] James, Gary and Andi chat to Cane & Rinse's Leon Cox about a very special gaming diet: Tapas. Not the Spanish cuisine, but the practise of playing short, sharp bursts of video games - much like listening to your favourite snack-sized podcast (we mean us). Throughout July we’d like you to experiment with having your own Gaming Tapas fortnights. Simply choose enough of games to last you a week or two: ideally 10 to 20. Then pick goals: choose easy achievements, trophies, or simple goals in each game. Ideally each goal should take you no more than 1 to 2 hours. Please post any comments on your Tapas Experiment on the Facebook wall (facebook.com/gameburst) or on Twitter mentioning @GameBurst and using the hashtag #gamingtapas or send us an email pod@gameburst.co.uk.
