I'm in Washington DC for the next week, and I've just finished a public appearance with Senator Sanders (should I call him Bernie? Or Sanders? or…) You won't often see me so dressed up and polished. But this is important! There are politicians who have principles and character, who really believe in doing what's right. I think you have to respect them whether you agree with their views or not, and I think Senator Bernie Sanders is one of them. Never has my belief been so validated as when I saw him start to speak, loudly, CLEARLY, publicly about the risk of human extinction from AI. Elsewhere in chaos, Georgia Rep. David Scott passed away at 80, making him the fifth member of Congress to die in the past year and a half, tipping the House balance further toward Republicans; a Republican-appointed judge voided Virginia's newly approved redistricting map the day after voters approved it; Truth Social replaced CEO Devin Nunes — who was paid $47 million while the company earned $4 million — with someone described as a "corporate babysitter"; and condom prices are going up 30% because of the Iran war, which is somehow both funny and bleak. STORY 3: Ethics board dismisses complaint over Holtkamp's transit videos Gwinnett County Commissioner Matthew Holtkamp got some relief Tuesday when an ethics panel ruled he didn’t violate county rules by filming a video on a Ride Gwinnett bus urging voters to reject the 2024 T-SPLOST referendum. “I’ve been completely vindicated,” Holtkamp said. “This had no merit, and it’s unfortunate we had to waste resources on it.” The complaint, filed by a resident in Holtkamp’s district, claimed he improperly used county property for personal advocacy. But Holtkamp argued he paid his bus fare and had a friend—not county staff—film the video. The ethics board agreed, saying his actions didn’t break the rules. David Scott announced the approval, with $1.09 million earmarked for Snellville’s water infrastructure—upgrading a booster station’s electrical system and adding backup power—and $1.03 million heading to the Lawrenceville Police Department. The police funds? David Randolph Scott is an alleged predator that was caught in a Blount County, Alabama investigation of Takedown with Chris Hansen.  At the time of the sting, Scott had been living in Adamsville, Alabama with his wife. He also had two children, one 35 and one 38. Blount County Sheriff Mark Moon said that Scott did not have a criminal record.  Scott worked as a Toyota car salesman but was described as being "semi-retired" at the time.  Scott had been communicating with a decoy posing as a fifteen-year-old girl. He agreed to pay the girl $50 for a blowjob. Scott arrived to the sting house, but quickly turned around and drove off. A few minutes later, he returned to the house and parked in the drive way, greeting the decoy at the door.
