Mit dem Begriff der «Gouvernementalität» bezeichnet Foucault eine spezifische Regierungsweise in der westlichen Spätmoderne, die Macht nicht in erster Linie über Verbote, Gewalt und Sanktionen ausübt, sondern durch «produktive Techniken» – beispielsweise durch die Disziplinierung und Normierung von Körpern, Subjekten, Wissen und Diskursen. Das «Individuum» wird dabei in seine kleinsten Bestandteile und Bewegungsabläufe zerlegt und somit zum Gegenstand einer «Biopolitik», in der das Leben selbst Einzug in das Regieren erhält. Wie übertragen sich staatliche Regierungsweisen auf Subjektivierungsweisen des Selbst? Ist Freiheit eine Zumutung? Inwiefern ist Foucault Vordenker heutiger Bewegungen, die als identitätspolitisch gelten? Und hat der späte Foucault tatsächlich mit dem Neoliberalismus sympathisiert, wie ihm zuweilen vorgeworfen wird?
