Sometimes you need to make concessions to get what you want. That seems to be the case with this episode of Saturday Night Live. How else does one explain Gary Tigerman as the musical guest?  "You'd like Richard Dreyfuss, fresh off becoming the youngest Oscar winner ever, to host?  Sure, he'd love to do the show. But, he'd like to bring his friend along."  Some call it "The Paul Simon Effect."  Regardless, here we are.  Dreyfuss gets to play with a couple of recurring characters, tries his hand at the last "Marilyn piece" of the original era, and introduces us to Father Guido Sarducci. And, just to hedge their bets, the show has Jimmy Buffett perform one song (seated, since he has a broken leg).Lots to discuss.....Subscribe today! Project Tiger was launched in 1973 amidst the gloomy news that the tiger numbers had plummeted to a measly 1400 from a high of 40,000 in 1900. An Indian officer called Kailash Sankhala, also called the Tiger Man of India, pushed the case for a special protection plan for tigers. Thus was born Project Tiger. This was also around the same time when M.K.Ranjitsinh was helping  the Indian government draft one of the tightest wildlife protection acts - The Wildlife (Protection) Act, 1972. One of the highlights of this act was that most forms of wildlife were not allowed to be hunted, except under very special circumstances. As part of this act, M.K.Ranjitsinh (a former prince of a royal family in Gujarat) brought many important provisions, based on his observations of how wildlife and villagers co-exist in and around the forests. One of the most important provision related to how tigers need to be protected in the event of their consuming the livestock of a villager.Listen to a conversation on how tigers hunt and how villagers co-exist with them in forests, and how the Wildlife Act protects them both. Smyan Shetty, a fourth grader from Mumbai, explores these aspects. To listen to the entire podcast series on India's wildlife, click here Support the showDo you like to read stories? After the British left India in 1947, Indians were feeling mighty happy. But they also had to figure out how to build the country, grow more food and earn a lot of money. In the middle of all of this, if some poachers were killing tigers for their skins or rhinos for their horns - not many were paying attention to that. There were a handful of wildlife conservationists at that time, who did all they could - to first bring this to the attention of India's leaders. This episode covers three such dynamic conservationists (a) Tiger Man of India - Kailash Sankhala, (b) Bird Man of India - Salim Ali and (c) The Man who helped make the law to protect wildlife - M.K.Ranjitsinh.Aarav (Grade 5), Anaaya (Grade 6) and Tia (Grade 6) from Bal Bharti Public School, Delhi, join us in this episode to discuss the lives of these three conservationists. To listen to the entire podcast series on India's wildlife, click here Support the showDo you like to read stories? Sounder's specialty is investigating crimes against Titans, the one percenters among one percenters, whose access to an exclusive medical treatment known as Titanium 7 enlarges both their bodies and their lifespans. The story is set hundreds of years in the future, when such miracle treatments become possible, but the book also sends roots into the past. Thank goodness my enemies are such weirdos!   Photo is unrelated, other than it was at the ABC studio where Jamie and I talked about the upcoming Fur Ball gala for Big Cat Rescue.   https://www.thedailybeast.com/gun-toting-zoo-owners-in-showdown-with-peta-and-the-feds-over-baby-tigers   Gun-Toting Zoo Owners in Showdown With PETA and the Feds Over Baby Tigers   A Florida zoo featured on ‘Good Morning America' for its tiger-cub ‘swims' is facing lawsuits from PETA and state and federal agencies over its charity and treatment of the cats.   Kate Briquelet 12.26.17 12:00 AM ET   One day in October, Randy Stearns walked out to a Florida campfire, dressed in a fringed leather top like a modern-day Davy Crockett. “Hello, friends, Randy the Tiger Man,” the animal trainer greeted the camera, which was set between a teepee and totem pole out in the woods near his family's Dade City zoo.   “You can't believe a damn thing you see on the news,” the 34-year-old declared in the filmed fireside chat posted on Facebook. “Just look at me. I'm the newest Charlie Sheen. Every time you go on, there's something on about us, the park…”   Then Stearns took aim at People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA)—a constant topic in The Tiger Man's online videos. “Kind of like Rambo, they drew first blood,” Stearns said. “We had to go out there, defend ourselves.”   Just two months before, the wannabe Jack Hanna stood guard at the zoo's gates with a holstered weapon, joining supporters flaunting neon “PETA Kills” T-shirts. They were protesting, and allegedly delaying, a court-ordered inspection of the private, unaccredited zoo's collection of adult and baby tigers.   Stearns and his parents run Dade City's Wild Things (DCWT), a 22-acre zoo about 44 miles northeast of Tampa. The attraction has more than 300 animals: jaguars, lions, bears, lemurs, macaques, porcupines, bearded dragons, and other reptiles.   But it's known for baby tigers, deployed for photo-ops and swim sessions in the zoo's chlorinated pool. In years past, the cubs appeared on Good Morning America and Fox & Friends for the seemingly adorable gimmick.   Yet behind the footage, there's allegedly a darker side to the tiger business, according to animal-welfare advocates—one that prematurely rips cubs away from their mothers and forces them into stressful encounters with humans for profit.   According to PETA, Dade City's Wild Things is contributing to a captive tiger overpopulation crisis by continually breeding them for photo-ops and ticket sales. Once cubs grow too large for customer interactions, they're left to languish for the rest of their days in cages, or sold off to other roadside attractions and collectors of exotic animals, PETA says.   The big cats are at the center of separate lawsuits brought by PETA and the U.S. Department of Agriculture, which respectively allege the zoo violated the Endangered Species Act and the Animal Welfare Act over its handling of the tigers.   The zoo also faces a state lawsuit for allegedly accepting donations while not registered as a nonprofit. Florida's Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services claims the zoo used hundreds of thousands in charity funds to foot the bills for Randy Stearns' nuptials and the bankruptcy payments of his mother, Kathy.   Hi, I'm Carole Baskin and I've been writing my story since I was able to write, but when the media goes to share it, they only choose the parts that fit their idea of what will generate views.  These are my views and opinions. Elvis's shortest album (with the longest title) also known later as simply "Elvis Sings Flaming Star," was one of the earliest LPs Justin ever owned, so the guys are taking a not-so-objective look at this 1968 promo release that brought together a number of then-previously-unreleased cuts, including Tiger Man, Too Much Monkey Business, Do the Vega and more! Then for Song of the Week, Justin was so taken with the Fun in Acapulco soundtrack recently that he decided to highlight "Vino, Dinero Y Amor" and its pop-opera sound, and Gurdip follows up with a favorite movie tune of his own, 1956's "Let Me" from the film "Love Me Tender."

Its all about action in this episode! Mike and Rich start with one of prolific director Godefroy Ryckewaert's latest films, THE COLLECTOR (I would say latest but he is so prolific he's probably made at least one more since we recorded!). If you're not familiar with Godefroy's work we highly recommend you check out his Youtube channel! We follow this with TIGER MAN in which Elvis Presley shows off his skills while rehearsing in Las Vegas! Stephanie Pham co-directs and stars in our next film, LADY 2  in which a mysterious lady comes to the aid of some women abducted by sex traffickers.  Finally we have REDEMPTION, a classy action short boasting strong production values although some of its narrative is a bit wooly.    Follow the Short Shots TWITTER page, where we will be linking to a short film every day!  Don't forget to also check out our main show, the DTV DIGEST on TWITTER and FACEBOOK!
