Kurt McKinney originally hails from Louisville, Kentucky. At the age of 21 he was already a black belt in taekwondo and an amateur kickboxing champion. He decided to become an actor and moved to Hollywood. He would go on to star in the 1985 film No Retreat, No Surrender as the lead. The film, one of the 1st Hong Kong-U.S. crossovers (written and directed by Corey Yuen), also starred the man who would become known as Van Dammage, Jean-Claude Van Damme as the main villain. The film was a sizable hit in the U.S. but Kurt didn't want to be typecast. Kurt went on to star on the soap General Hospital as Ned. This was after he was turned down for American Ninja because he was too young. He was offered to appear in American Ninja III-VI but he didn't like the idea of working on all the films in South Africa (he also turned down "No Retreat No Surrender 2: Raging Thunder" in 1987 possibly due to the film's location). Kurt went on to TV films like Sworn to Vengeance to big-screen films like Blonde Justice with Cynthia Rothrock. He currently appears on Guiding Light as Matt Reardon, but martial arts fans will always remember him from his film debut in 1985 as Jason Stillwell! --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/steven-cuoco/message Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/steven-cuoco/support

How many reviews can you fit into 22 minutes of radio? Well, if you tuned in to the mighty Radio NL on Friday night or Sunday morning, you'd already know the answer to that. But if you didn't, fear not! You can learn the answers to these and other mysteries by listening to the latest podcast... From The Basement! The Basement Boys put a couple of movies on the chopping block, including the school-shooting thriller Run Hide Fight with Isabel May and Thomas Jane, and the wilderness horror Hunter Hunter with Devon Sawa and Camille Sullivan. Do either sound like your glass of whisky? Jason has a few thoughts on each. What'd he think? Stick with us! And stick around, as Shawn has discovered the wonders of Jean-Claude Van Damme's foray into television, Jean-Claude Van Johnson. He also took in the paranormal comedy Truth Seekers from Simon Pegg and Nick Frost of Shaun of the Dead fame. Did he dig these comedic pursuits? As the pandemic trucks along, there's fewer new things to watch, so The Dynamic Duo turn to older fare in the form of They Nest with Kristen Dalton, 16 Blocks starring Bruce Willis, and 12 Rounds featuring John Cena. Do any of these offerings hold up? There's only one way to find out: push play on the player below and dive in!
For the first Everything Action Commentary for 2021, Zach and Chris unleash some Van Dammage and watch JCVD's 1990 classic, Lionheart.
Roden and Thunder finally get double the Van Dammage!
Get ready for double the Van Dammage on this week's episode of They Called This a Movie. We were feeling some good old fashion 90s action, so we once again tapped our favorite Belgian action star, Jean-Claude Van Damme, and a film in which he plays twin beefcakes separated at birth. It's Double Impact, and yes, it's exactly like The Parent Trap. We head to Hong Kong as our twin heroes Chad and Alex try to reclaim their birthright, which uncomfortably relies on British Imperialism in a setting that completely dates this film starting at the first frame. But from there, it's all kicks, gun fights, and even more kicks as JCVD does what he does best: kick. So kick (get it) back and listen to our brand new episode, as we talk about the wasted opportunities to lean into the whole twin idea, pitch improvements on the one sex scene, and we talk about quads. A lot. You can find us on iTunes, Stitcher, and Google Play Podcasts. If you want to see more from us, check out the website and follow us on Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram. We are now part of Geek Vibes Nation, so be sure to check out their website and to look for us on their future podcast shows.

Over the course of the series we will take an in depth look at Van Damme’s career (so far) from his early cameos in “Missing in Action” and “Breakin” to his transcendent run as Jean-Claude Van Johnson on Amazon. Along the way we will attempt to pin down just what it is about Van Damme that makes for such a compelling action figure. Part 3 – Peak Van DamageHost J.
