What's real?! We are back and bigger and badder than ever before! Welcome to episode 207! This week's open has some talk about Jerry Lawler, a "WWE Backlash 2024: France" review, and the "Roast of Tom Brady". Then, it's the next to last "Darkside of the Ring" episode of the season. It's going back to the glory years of the guy's wrestling fandom, ECW. It's all about the life and career of the one and only, "Sandman" (not Adam Sandler)! Then, it's a film segment "double feature". The "original. unoriginal" segment rolls along through the month of May! This week's a double dose of some personal cult classics. It's Zack Galligan in "Waxwork" and "Waxwork II: Lost in Time". The hilarity of "Goofs R' Goofs" closes out the show. Please enjoy responsibly! We go right into the sequel of the original Waxwork, however, is it a sequel or did they just use the same characters and make an entire movie out of the ending they originally wanted to use? You be the judge. We definitely do not agree on our ratings on this one. Starring Zach Galligan, Monika Schnarre, Martin Kemp, and Bruce Campbell. Written and Directed by Anthony Hickox in 1992. #shoutfactory #vinegarsyndrome #moviereviews Space Truckers (1996) Set in 2196, Stuart Gordon's Space Truckers is a sci-fi comedy and nothing more. It presents us with our Hero, John Canyon (Dennis Hopper) losing his big cargo shipment contract with the Pig company owned by the guy from Cheers. So he decides to become an independent space trucker. He meets up with newbie Mike Pucci (Stephen Dorff), and stowaway Cindy (Debi Mazar). Dr. Nabel (Charles Dance) has developed a cyborg warrior to achieve his goal of complete domination of Earth. In fact he has about 5 thousand of these cyborgs. The power of the cyborg is on full display in the beginning of the film when it takes out a military unit and leaves only Nabel and his assistant behind. Blu-ray available via Shout Factory The Cornshukker (1997) Somewhere in the cornfields of Indiana lives The Cornshukker. What in the world is The Cornshukker? Comparisons to David Lynch's Eraserhead are out there. The comparison holds water as far as the surreal, midwest vibe, however, there are no scares in The Cornshukker. Instead of suspense, we are treated to dancing and dark comedy. The Cornshukker is it's own thing. An accurate comparison would be the Cornshukker to Groot from Guardian's of the Galaxy. They both have one line they use to communicate. “I know” is The Cornshukker's “I am Groot.” The story gets going when The Cornshukker's food supply, corn, is in danger. The Cornshukker leaves his habitat. Word gets around town that The Cornshukker exists. The fate of The Cornshukker is in the hands of the town. At a run time of 63 minutes the movie does not provide much as far as character development. Waxwork (1988) 6 College students decide to visit a free wax museum called WaxWork. Inside Waxwork are wax models of mummies, vampires, werewolves and zombies. The only thing missing are the victims. The college kids are soon used as victims for the wax models. There are some awesome set pieces and an exciting ending full of blood and fire. Waxwork II: Lost in Time (1992) Takes place immediately after Waxwork. A right hand has escaped the waxwork and is out for revenge and murder's Sarah's stepfather. Only Sarah ends up taking blame for the murder. Mark and sarah find a museum of artifacts that lead them to a portal. They enter the portal and are separated. Mark encounters Frankenstein and Frankenstein's monster. 2001 a space odyssey sequence where Lord Scarabus is revealed. Who looks like a xynomorph dinosaur. Alien/Aliens parody. Borderline scary movie stuff going on. Bruce Campbell and David Carradine have cameos. Waxwork 2 turns into a parody and leans heavy into the comedy . Skip it. Tim is wearing his boner pants this week as we review our main feature COME TRUE, because it's full of dream sequences and nightmarish imagery. But first, we're talking Get Duked, The Old Ways, Frankenstein, Aftermath, Shadow in the Cloud, Blood Red Sky, Waxwork, Waxwork II: Lost in Time, The Suicide Squad, Intruder, High Tension, and Moon Blood by W. Sheridan Bradford.
We return to the Vestron Video Collector's Series, as we venture into the Waxwork (1988)! Twice. Kind of. But not really. Because despite being a sequel, Waxwork II: Lost in Time (1992), has nothing to do with any waxworks, at all. Well, you'll hear what I'm talking about. Featuring the superb acting talents and rollicking adventures of Zach Galligan and other thespians of the utmost quality! Okay, I'm having a little fun at Zach's expense. But even David Warner, Bruce Campbell, John Rhys-Davies, Patrick Macnee and David Carradine show up! Prepare yourself for a trip back to the convoluted vat of gooey, boiling wax that WAS the VHS era!
This week we continue our retrospective on the Waxwork movies with Waxwork II: Lost in Time. This is Episode 324.
Movies discussed: Puppetmaster II, Waxwork II: Lost in Time, The Prophecy II, Local 58 – Contingency (Short) We watch some lesser sequels of lesser franchises this week. The results are middling, yet somehow, we think we may end up going back for thirds one day. Next weeks assignments: Underwater DeepStar Six The Boat Snapdragons (short) Watch along with us if you like and we’ll see you next week. Last week, Waxwork provided us with a look inside a window to a world of endless possibilities when it comes to a sequel. Hell, we even discussed the possibilities of how a Waxwork television series would work so well based solely off the first movie. Well folks, Waxwork II took that window and slammed it right in our faces. Maybe someone out there can tell us what happened with this sequel and what was even going on. --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/bmoviebreakdown/support
