I have been looking forward to this conversation so much and I’m so happy to be able to finally share it with you today. Today, my guest is Courtney Carver the author of Soulful Simplicity and the creator of the minimalist Fashion Challenge Project 333. Courtney believes that simplicity is the way back to love and that letting go of things and thoughts that don’t add value to our life can actually be the way to ADD a whole lot of meaning and connection. Courtney was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis in 2006 and was determined to find a path back to health. When she started examining ways to support herself, she realized that stress was a big part of her life and can be a major contributing factor to MS and other autoimmune disorders. In this conversation, we talk about her journey back to health, her approach to minimalism and simplicity and how she gained so much more in her life when she started letting go of things that weren’t adding value to her life. We also talk about letting go of the things left behind after we lose a loved one as well as the more recent things Courtney has let go of in her own life that has had surprising effects and may surprise you too. “We don’t need as much as we think we do to be happy.” ~ Courtney Carver   If you are seeking more meaning and connection in your life, this conversation is not to be missed! When you listen you’ll hear that I had a lot to say on this topic as well. Her advice and wisdom have been so helpful in my own life. I value that she is not an extreme minimalist. It’s not about eliminating everything, but only the things that we don’t need. I enjoyed talking to her about decluttering our thoughts and the stories we tell ourselves, especially the ones that aren’t true! I’d love to hear what you think of this conversation and how you see it translating to your own life. What are you ready to let go of? Be sure to comment below or connect with me on Instagram to tell me all about it. More About Courtney Carver Courtney Carver believes simplicity is the way back to love. After being diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis in 2006, she was determined to eliminate as much stress as possible for a happier, healthier life. The common thread in every change she made from diet to debt was simplicity. Courtney is the author of Soulful Simplicity and has been sharing her journey back to health, her experiences with minimalist Fashion Challenge Project 333 and other simplicity adventures on her blog, Be More with Less since 2010.  You can connect with Courtney via her website, Instagram, Facebook, or Twitter.   In This Episode, We Talk About Courtney’s diagnosis of Multiple Sclerosis and the connection to stress How she unclutters her mind - the simplicity of the mind How her health changed when she started changing her physical environment What Courtney’s house looks like now - it might surprise you! The phases that Courtney has gone through with simplifying Advice for releasing things left behind when you lose a loved one Suggestions on what to do with sentimental items How she has become more engaged in the present instead of trying to “capture moments” What has arrived in her life through this process Courtney explains how Project 333 came to be and how simplifying her wardrobe was revolutionary in her life How she would describe her identity before and after How simplifying has changed her relationships - her best relationships got better, her so-so relationships went away Why she recently stopped drinking alcohol Her experience with Transcendental Meditation Why she stopped weighing herself and the freedom she has found when she let go of the scale What Courtney would like to add more of to her life Her advice to our listeners to get started - promise yourself 5 minutes a day to connect to yourself And so much more!   Things We Mention In This Episode Website: Project 333 Book: Soulful Simplicity by Courtney Carver Website: Be More With Less Workshop: Join Christina at The Omega Institute for Life Reentry After Loss Book: Second Firsts by Christina Rasmussen Book: Where Did You Go? by Christina Rasmussen Newsletter - Message In a Bottle: Sign up for Christina’s weekly inspiration  And it would mean the world to me if you’d leave a rating and review on iTunes. How are you liking season 2 so far? This isn’t your typical podcast season with guest after guest. This season is doing a deep dive into my life and Courtney’s life so you can see start to finish HOW to change your finances. Both of us are on a mission to take radical responsibility of our lives. Once a month you will see myself get coached by a high six figure entrepreneur, Allison, on helping me to create a 6 figure business on the side of full-time employment followed by the next week you will watch Courtney’s journey as she does the internal self work to get honest about her debt and freeing herself from it. Both Courtney and I use traditional employment and build our own extra income on top of it and we don’t hold back on the secrets of it. We give them ALL. The following weeks of the month in season 2 will be a guest who has radically changed his/her life and how they view money and the last week will be a solo episode of my choosing. This month’s solo episode you will hear the story of why Mike and I are doing foster care, how it is going with our first foster child and a surprise about that journey that we have never shared publicly. This week though you will meet Courtney. Courtney is one of those people who you can tell has been through a lot but you also think you might see he on TV someday as a motivational speaker! She truly works hard to provide for her family and has grit and determination. Courtney also has some debt that she wants to knock out this year and a plan to get rid of it. We are going to watch her journey this year - in a once a month episode on her progress and the lessons she is learning. You will love Courtney. She’s like an encyclopedia of personal development wrapped up in a spicy taco. Things we cover on this episode: Getting into debt because of medical emergencies and life emergencies How credit cards are “life tuition” Taking small steps and opportunities and letting them be seeds that grow How to overcome the fear of letting people know the truth of your situation What Courtney’s first steps are going to be to work on her debt This week I unlocked a feature on Libsyn (for $5 more a month) that allows me to see what countries all the listeners are from. I was shocked to see that there we are in 15 countries. YOU GUYS! This means people are wanting to talk about money. They are wanting to get real with their spending habits and creating extra income! It’s so cool. It just goes to show that when you obey the promptings of God (or your heart), you can work through the “fails” along the way-which are really just lessons in how to not move forward.
