Zoey has had CF her whole life but was only diagnosed at age 37, after years of sinus infections, pneumonia, anti-biotics, hospitalizations, tests and ultimately being misdiagnosed by doctors and specialists. There is no known cure for CF and being a mom of 2 young kids, Zoey had had enough of being sick, and reached out to Nicolette for support. On today's podcast Nicolette, Zoey and her husband, Mike, discuss their journey on the Gerson Therapy. Topics include salts that heal and salts that harm, CF and Estrogen, coffee enemas, and the importance of advocating for yourself. Zoey describes what's it's like to live with Cystic Fibrosis and the shock of learning how antibiotics were becoming less effective with each use. They also share their experience at the Baja Therapy clinic, where she was the sickest person and possible the first patient visiting with CF. The company she has partnered with aims to offer affordable solutions to women's health problems while bringing quality products to market.Shan shares her journey to whole-body wellness and how God reminded her of her dream of being a stay-at-home mom. After leaving her career as a nurse, Shan had to create a new identity for herself. This led to discovering a product that helps weight loss and eventually to supporting her hormones. When she started with the product she didn't expect it to be a business venture. But has allowed her to build a lifestyle she enjoys. This new product helps with mental clarity, thyroid health, iron absorption, blood flow, liver health, energy levels, clear skin, mild bloating, and libido. Shan's results with this product include an increase in libido, decreased cramps, and lowered menstrual flow. Despite being taboo, it has opened up a discussion about hormones and sex. Are you ready to balance your hormones and live a happy, healthy life? Let's talk about how hormones affect women's lives in all aspects. For this podcast session today, we are joined by two incredibly talented guests Demi who is a lash expert, and Rachel who is a brow technician. Together the two decided to combine their skills and start a salon and this is their story of how it all happened! It was a fairytale… Key Takeaways #1 Follow your heart Societal pressure and stigma around certain things can prevent you from fulfilling your goals but in times like this hold on tight to your dreams. If you know what you are doing is right, have a solid plan to achieve your vision, don't stop. Start and keep going until you get there! #2 Overcome challenges Challenges are a part of life, we all have them. So don't let the hard times get to you and continue putting your energy into things that truly matter. #3 Quitting doesn't mean failure Not everything in life is supposed to work out, and at times you might have to quit certain things but don't look at that as a sign that you have failed. Failure and success don't come with a concrete definition, so if one path is not working out well for you, explore others and find the one that does even if it does not fit into the socially constructed view of success. Time Stamps: 0:40-8:50 Both of our talented guest speakers share with us our origin story, their areas of expertise, how they got into the salon business, and some of the difficulties they faced along the way with managing education, mental health, and everything that life threw at them. 8:51-13:12 The stigma around beauty courses is real and who would know that better than someone in the beauty industry themselves? In this part of the segment, our guests talk about the societal pressure that sometimes comes with doing what your heart truly wants you to do, and how they faced their families and remained steadfast during the challenges. 13:55-21:29 Demi and Rachel share with us how they made this business partnership work given how collaborative work requires a lot of effort and often still doesn't end up working quite right 34:41-48:08 Inflation, covid, and increased cost of living. This segment is loaded with some real talk on finances and managing through tough economic times! ‘Winning is great, sure, but if you are really going to do something in life, the secret is learning how to lose. Nobody goes undefeated all the time. If you can pick up after a crushing defeat, and go on to win again, you are going to be a champion someday.' - Wilma Rudolph About Guest Speakers www.lashbrowlab.co.uk
The Importance Of Personal Branding With Joshua B.Lee For this podcast, we have with us the King of LinkedIn, Joshua B.Lee who talks to us about the importance of having a well-maintained LinkedIn profile and personal branding! Key Takeaways #1 Human-to-Human Approach When developing a marketing plan get a little person and don't forget to add the human element to your brand which will help draw a large consumer base. #2 Don't just focus on the financial aspect Running a business is much more than just the finances so if you are in just for the cash, you need to shift your values and set a strong vision and mission for your business. Otherwise, the survival of your business is at stake right there #2 Don't take negative feedback personally This one might sound a little cliche but don't take the negativity you're bound to encounter especially if you have a digital presence. If you make mistakes, learn from them and admit that you wronged, also value constructive criticism but do not pay attention to mindless hate! Time Stamps 2:26-4:39 Our guest speaker shares with us his origin story, how he started his career, creating multiple companies, monetizing traffic, and understanding the significance of helping others build their way up on LinkedIn by connecting with other individuals. 5:14-8:30 You must have heard about Instagram and Facebook algorithms, but do you know what a human algorithm is? In this segment Lee explain to us this relatively under-explored type of algorithm, in a world where we have all become focused on AI and automation! 8:44-12:10 Lee explains his journey with entrepreneurship and how he worked his way from selling candy for 100% profit as a child to the successful person that he is today. 12:17-16:59 We have an engaging conversation on personal branding, and how covid 19 has created the need for human interaction even in the corporate world and has increased consumer demand of wanting to know the people behind businesses. 17:17-19:29 Success is not just being able to make good money, there is much more to it. You need to have a vision, a purpose, a goal, something that would keep you going on your tough days! 28:57-33:50 Lee talks about the kind of branding that works: real and raw, not overproduced and then goes on to explain why he chose LinkedIn as his main platform. 42:11-43:28 Looking for tips to get started with personal branding? Make sure you don't miss out on this last section of the podcast, it's going to give you the direction you're looking for. About guest speaker Joshua B. Real Relatable and RawSuzi talks with John David "J.D." Morris, Retired US Army Special Forces, Professional Shooting and Tactics Instructor, and Wellness Mentor about the real struggles, relatable stories and raw details of his life. Trauma is an individual and unique reality for each of us and when we know we are not alone, we can then stand strong knowing we have many hands holding us up and helping us to move forward. We all deserve to be mentally healthy and stacking your team with those like minded members will create a tribe you can lean on and go to for support. Live the Life You Deserve!John's BioIn 1986, I enlisted in the U.S. Army and everything started to make sense. I found connection with other like-minded people and purpose in serving our country. I started out in the Airborne Combat Engineers at Ft. Bragg, NC, and served there from 1987-1991. Three overseas deployments; two to Honduras, Central America, and one to Operation Desert Storm would be the highlights of my MOS-12B career. During those years at Ft. Bragg, NC, I was always impressed with the “other guys” across the street on Smoke Bomb Hill. They were Green Berets. Upon returning from Desert Storm, I immediately went to Special Forces Assessment and Selection-SFAS. After completing selection, I attended and completed the Special Forces Engineer Course and Special Forces Qualification Course in 1992. In December 1992, I reported to B/3/5th SFG(A) at Ft. Campbell, KY. I had no way of knowing then, I would stay there until retirement in April 2008. I spent 13 years on Operational Detachments in 3rd Battalion, 5th Special Forces Group(A). Over those 13 years, I served as the Engineer Sergeant, Intelligence Sergeant, and Operations Sergeant (Team Sergeant) on Special Forces A-Teams. I deployed five times under long term combat conditions from 1991-2006. We also deployed for numerous contingency operations in the Middle East during the 1990's.After my third tour in Iraq during the Global War on Terror in 2006, I was very sick and confused. I suffered from PTSD and TBI; but couldn't recognize it myself. After a medical retirement in 2008 at 21 years of service, I was lost in life after the military. It would take six more difficult years before the healing started. I am transparent about this part of my life in an attempt to give back and help others with the same post military and combat injuries. I offer the same support to local Law Enforcement and First Responders. I have also decided to dedicate my time after retirement to training others in local communities. My time spent over four decades in special military operations, combat operations, and specialized law enforcement operations will enhance and benefit all levels of training in our current society.Music credit to Kalvin Love for the podcast's theme song “Bee Your Best Self”Contact Suzi at suzigma@gmail.com or (818) 470-2013 and share your story.vetsandplayers.orgwildhorserescue.org Visit our webpage at cominghomewell.comInterested in sponsoring our podcasts email us at cominghomewell@gmail.comFollow us on our socialsYouTube @cominghomewellmilitaryInstagram @cominghomewellorganizationFacebook at Coming Home WellLinkedIn at Coming Home WellTwitter @ComingHomeWellThank you for listening! “What I'm most proud of is… I realized after my divorce that I needed some help, and so I found therapy - 11-plus years ago. So I like to share with people that I've been emotionally sober for 11 years. And with all sobriety you've got waves to ride, and sometimes the wave crashes you into a shore. [But] sometimes you ride it - and you're in this place where you get to step onto the shore. Because the board carried you” - Ceasar F. Barajas Ever Forward Club's Ashanti Branch is joined by Ceasar F. Barajas. As a wellness mentor, mental health advocate, performer, and activist, Ceasar is an incredibly accomplished individual. His career has spanned 30+ years, and he's done everything from yoga instruction to fight and dance choreography, teaching at Columbia University to working with fellow veterans on their mental health and wellness. Importantly, amongst all of the accolades, he openly shares how he still presently copes and attempts to manage the anxiety, depression, and post-traumatic stress injuries that have plagued him his entire life. We hope you enjoy getting to know Ceasar in this week's episode. (1:15) Ashanti's introduction. (5:15) Ceasar and Ashanti discuss their favorite book, The Alchemist, by Paulo Coelho. (7:15) Ceasar introduces himself. He shares the many lives he's already lived and masks he's already worn, and he shares what pushed him to seek “emotional sobriety.” (18:45) Even after 11 years of therapy, Ceasar didn't discover men's groups until June of 2020. He shares all the things that led up to a major breakdown in June 2020, and the men's group that changed his life. (29:15) Ceasar and Ashanti discuss what it's like staying in touch their college fraternity brothers. (37:15) Ceasar and Ashanti return to an incident of racism Ashanti experienced. Ceasar applies his learnings and teachings to this incident, and he shares the different ways he's been healing since March 2021. (48:15) Ashanti shares the front of his mask - funny, dedicated, determined. Then Ceasar shares the front of his mask - vulnerability, artistry, fortitude. (54:45) Ashanti shares the back of his mask - deep sadness, worrier vs. warrior, no rest. (58:15) Ceasar shares the back of his mask - self-sabotage, remorse/guilt, self-doubt. Debbie Langley with Experience More Inc, is an Internet Entrepreneur, brilliant social media strategist, Wellness Mentor, Teacher, and Philanthropist. Thanks for being here today Debbie, welcome. What makes your life amazing? I think there are a number of things that make my life amazing. These include a positive outlook; willingness to try new things and to work hard; acceptance that failure is one step closer to my goals; and probably the most important is my faith that God is in the details of my life, He wants me to succeed. Tell me what accomplishments your most proud of: Raising my 6 children to be contributing, loving, service-oriented adults. I am extremely proud of my children and their families. What is the toughest thing you have had to overcome in your life? Probably my divorce after 32 years of marriage. All I had ever really wanted to be was a good wife and mother. It affected me in so many ways. I thought getting the divorce papers signed would allow me to move forward in my life. Unfortunately, it took almost 6 more years to have everything else finished. Do you have any skills or talents that most people don't know about? When I was a teenager, I started managing one of my dad's garages. Besides being a manager, I was also an auto mechanic. I am self-taught in many things. I believe in constantly learning. In 2019, I graduated from college with 3 associate degrees. Two in IT, Business Intelligence and Database Administration and the other in integrated studies. What does it take to have an amazing life? It takes courage, bravery, and a can-do attitude. Life is always changing and we never really know what's ahead of us. If we have courage to face our obstacles, bravery to step into the unknown, and the attitude that we can do it, then nothing can stop us. If there were only three ideas that you leave for this world and your posterity, what 3 ideas would you leave for them that could lead them to have an amazing life? 1. You are a precious child of God. He will always love you and be there with His arms outstretched towards you. 2. Be reconciled with God and His laws and everything else will work out. 3. With God all things are possible. Be strong in your faith. Doubt your doubts, not your faith. If you want a truly amazing life that is connected and complete, you need the “you have value program” If you are willing to make some changes, be kind to yourself, fail forward and continue to try, or stop chasing comfort. In this episode Cam interviews Jolinda Johnson, a Wellness Mentor and Priestess who is a current student of the Feminist Coach Academy Certification Training. Jolinda helps her clients break up with burnout and return to the wild, whole, healthy and free.Jolinda specialises in hormone health, burnout prevention and recovery and is focused on helping clients to tap into what feels good (not just what makes sense) and to move to a place of wholeness and wellness on their own terms, redefining what wellness means for them outside of the package that we’re sold.Cam and Jolinda discuss her journey over the last 10 years, including the health experiences and new learnings that shifted her focus and why Jolinda no longer calls herself a ‘Women’s Health Coach’.They explore some of the oppressive messages in the health and wellness spaces about our bodies and relationship to our bodies, addressing privilege in the world of wellness and dismantling our conditioning on a path to liberatory wellness.Jolinda also covers some of the ideals set up in the wellness world that perpetuate systems of oppression, such as the toxicity of the “perfect” menstrual cycle, and instead how we can learn to be savvy about hormones and befriend and claim an alliance with our body. They also discuss the toxic relationship many of us have with rest and pleasure and why we should be focusing our energy on identifying the problematic messages and oppressive systems playing out in the wellness world, instead of battling our bodies. Finally, they discuss sacred activism, what Jolinda has been learning through the FCA, becoming more inclusive and applying that in business and the importance of being a practitioner that acknowledges oppression and communicates that in online platforms and communities, imperfectly and continuously.Connect with Jolinda on Instagram @coachjolinda and in the Facebook Group “The Rebel Health Collective”.Do you want to learn how to integrate an inclusive feminist praxis into your work, business, yourself and your everyday life and get Certified in Feminist Coach Theory? Jolinda Johnson is a wellness mentor and priestess, helping women break free from burn out and to start living as the badasses they were born to be. In this episode, Jolinda shares with me her personal experience of breaking out of the expected societal roles and how she has reconnected with "the wild woman" archetype. This is such an inspirational conversation, and I absolutely love how Jolinda's speaks about how always striving to be a "good girl" can really impact our health, leading to stress and burn out as well as how hormones can play a central role in our health and wellbeing. It is her passion to work with women one on one and give them the support they need to turn their dreams a reality. Elvira discusses the births of her three daughters and the impact that time, education, and advocacy has made on the birth industry and profession. At her first daughters birth, she was not allowed to walk around to labor and doctors and nurses attempted to persuade her not to breastfeed. By the time her third daughter was born, things changed in the labor and delivery room. She was allowed to labor as she felt her body needed to and breastfeeding was less of a fight with hospital staff. It was actually encouraged. He discusses his cathartic moment in jail and his support for the decriminalization of addiction in order to save lives and taxpayers’ money. Today, Rob is the manager of a retail store and the house manager of a sober home. He credits his healthy work and living environments and the peer support he found in each for helping him learn how to live a recovery lifestyle. The peer support theme continues as Rob tells co-hosts Jason Howell and Kirk Zajac how his recovery housemates cultivate community through running and gardening.
