Send us Fan MailWe're joined by Charlotte Vowden, Motoring journalist, automotive adventurer and presenter. Her story with cars hasn't always been a passion. It starts with her Grandads Mk3 Escort, and how he would pick her up from school and 'save her' from the bullies who would throw footballs at her head as she made her way to the gate. The car was nothing special, except it really was special. Her Dad was a mobile mechanic, so was busy working a lot of the time, but his skills have really come into their own in more recent years as Charlotte inherited an MGA roadster from her other Grandfather, and she's been on a number of life affirming roadtrips since taking over the ownership. From driving the length of the UK on sustainable fuel, to mimic the 1000 mile test from days gone by, to driving to Nordcapp, the furthest accessible point north, in Norway.Please do follow what Charlotte gets up to on Instagram, where you'll also find photos from her car based adventures.Charlie V (@charlottevowden) • Instagram photos and videosWe're pleased to say the guys from Viking Covers are staying on as Sponsor for My Dad's Car. One of the best episodes of 2024. Jennifer Gomez paints a rosy picture of her upbringing. Her mom was a neurologist. Her Dad is a psychiatrist. She is the youngest of seven children. She said all of her siblings are successful. But as a child, she didn't see their success as enviable. She saw it as boring. She told Matt Austin and Ginger Gadsden on Florida's Fourth Estate, when she thought of their lives she thought, “Your life looks really boring, going to work every day, doing these routine mundane things.” She said she wanted excitement, and she found it in targeting wealthy homes and stealing some of their most prized possessions. Altogether, she said she burglarized hundreds of homes: “I don't actually know the number, I'm going solely by what the detectives said and what was in my paperwork. It was 200, on paper, documented, that you can find.” Now Gomez is coming clean sharing her stories on social media and warning people to stop doing simple things that make them and their homes a target. For starters she said to stop making assumptions, “These people would look at me in these neighborhoods, communicate with me, look me straight in the eyes, and never suspect anything because of the way that I look.” Learn more about your ad choices. Kissimmee, Florida is right in the middle of some of Florida's most exciting tourist attractions. So, it's usually associated with happy times. But in February of 1998 the headlines were about tragedy in Kissimmee; 38 people killed in the deadliest tornado outbreak in the state's history up to that time. In its lead front page story, USA Today told about one couple who cowered in horror. And it said, "The wind sucked like a vacuum cleaner, pulling their five-year-old daughter, Elissa, away. Her Dad said, 'She was horizontal, and my wife was holding onto her legs. There was all this glass and everything started to disappear, all the furniture, and the insides of the walls. If my wife had let go of Elissa, we wouldn't have been able to find her." USA Today said, "But Judy's grip held. And in a few moments, the tornado had passed and Elissa was safe in her arms." Wow! I'm Ron Hutchcraft and I want to have A Word With You today about "Holding Onto Your Child In The Storm." If you're a parent, you may know that feeling because there are unusually stormy times right now in which to raise a son or daughter. And sometimes you feel like all that's swirling around them threatens to take them away. There may be days when you feel like you're hanging on for dear life. Our word for today from the Word of God, though it isn't addressed specifically to parents, is a great parent scripture. 2 Timothy 1:7 says this, "God did not give us a spirit of fear, but a spirit of power, of love, and of self-discipline." God doesn't want your parent-heart to be a fearful heart. In fact, He has made this strong promise to parents in Isaiah 54:13, "All your children will be taught of the Lord; and great will be the peace of your children." You can keep your child from being torn away by the storm. Take time to casually debrief each day with them; helping them interpret what they have experienced that day. Give them boundaries, but with positive reasons - not just boundaries. Focus on today - not the problems of yesterday or the prospects of tomorrow. Make your home an island of sanity in an otherwise insane world, where when they close that door, they know they're safe, not on another battlefield. And each new day, give that child back to the God who gave you that child in the first place. The ultimate secret of holding onto your child in the storm is - in a sense - letting go of your child. After the writer talks about having a spirit of power and love instead of a spirit of fear, he tells how that's possible with so much at stake. Speaking of his personal relationship with Jesus he says, "I know whom I have believed, and I am convinced that He is able to guard what (or who) I have entrusted to Him" (2 Timothy 1:12). There is a relationship that provides a life-anchor - for anyone, but especially for parents raising children in stormy times. If you have begun that personal love-relationship with Jesus, you can commit your precious child to Him and He'll hang onto them as you never could. But first Jesus has to be hanging onto you. There is nothing like being a parent to make you aware of your need for help, for the power to change, of your limitations, your need for forgiveness and for inner healing. And Jesus is a Mom's Savior, a Dad's Savior. He died on the cross to pay for all the sinning you and I have ever done, to tear down the wall between God and us and to open up all of God's love and power to you as a Mom or Dad. If you've never put your personal trust in Jesus Christ to be your Savior, don't wait another day for your sake; for the sake of the child you love. Our website is there to help you get this settled. It's ANewStory.com. In a world that is so dangerous and confusing, it isn't easy to keep your child from being taken away by the storm. But you can hang onto your son or daughter if you have the Son of God hanging onto you. {module Open a chat window - needhim}

Barbie Lynn's GeneticsIn 30 parts, By FinalStand. Listen to the podcast at Explicit Novels. “Nymphomania, while enticing to consider, is still utter madness when experienced.”"Why Mr. Zane, my Barbie Lynn has told us so many wonderful things about you," she sounded so sugary that the honeyed words flowed off her tongue in a manner that was barely coherent. Also, her eyes flickered to the shower where I'd nailed Barbie Lynn repeatedly for forty minutes not all that long ago. Next to me Thomas grunted something that sounded like 'hello'."I'm sure she's exaggerated to my betterment," I pulled that banter out of my tush, my brain was suffering catastrophic blood loss."I can't wait to live in this dorm next year," Laramie came across with a nearly a molasses like drawl as well. "Zane, will you let me use this room next year?""Dude! This is your room?" Jefferson perked up. "Mom, I have to come here next year!""Um, yes Laramie, I'm going to hold this room open to every girl, and perhaps guy, in the dorm. I don't need much space," I said, "so keep out of the way of housekeeping and we are good. Also, you are immune from Handmaiden's Duty while here.""Oh, I was thinking about the game stations, satellite dishes and cable hook-ups," Jefferson added. Jefferson Davis, that name rang a bell."Come on now Honey, a man can't go to a women's," Savannah let that sentence die unfinished. For me, it was keep the lone male status quo; or to get a good night's sleep'."Mrs. Masters, I offer a thin hope for your son; if your daughter could line up some upstanding seniors and juniors, he might slip in under the Zane Exception to the enrollment policy," I told her."You'd do that for Jeff?" Savannah took off her sunglasses and bit one of its arms."Ma'am, I'd wrestle an alligator blindfolded for your daughter. I would certainly put in a good word for her brother," I smiled. I had no idea how tough alligators could be but I knew about crocodiles and those were some mean mothers in their own right. Still, faced with alligator wrestling or no anal-sex with Barbie Lynn, I was getting a belt, handbag and new shoes, damn it.The odds of getting Jeff in were long, Victoria barely suffered Heaven being around, and it would take an act of the Southern Baptist Convention to bring in a male to replace me when I was gone."It would give your Father another option for Jefferson if you could do this Barbie Lynn," Savannah politely replied."That would be great," the kid rejoiced. Yes, he was a fully functioning teenage male."Zane can move mountains when he sets his mind to it," Barbie Lynn winked at me. Thomas saw it but was caught off-guard."Let me show you my bedroom," Barbie offered her kin. They turned and the women sashayed away while Jeff had an almost run-in with Raven and 'company'. Each woman shot a look over their shoulder and smiled at me at some point along their journey which boded trouble."I apologize, Zane," Thomas mumbled. "I thought, deep down, you were weak for submitting to your lusts. Now, I don't, I don't think that anymore.""Don't sweat it," I smiled. "It is only another day for me ending in y.""And don't you be forgetting about me, and how tough it has been resisting Zane," Vivian warned the man she was hoping to marry."A wife should obey her husband," he started, "and a husband should know when to shut up."Lunch and what comes afterI dropped Ms. Reveal's lunch off with just enough sassiness to make her smile and believe that our bad episode was behind us. She sent me to the Vice Chancellor's office a minute later, and while Doctor Victoria Scarlett was conversing over the phone, I felt comfortable to set her meal up in front of her and mine across her desk.Victoria only had this canned ice tea in her mini-frig so I swiped two and set one before her and opened mine. I wasn't exactly sure what it was, it was pretending to be Southern Ice Tea and I pretended to like it. The best thing I could say about it was it was cold. This was our fourth "working" lunch where she would insidiously fill my head with her philosophy and I'd causally remind her that women ran this government, not me; I was a figurehead."What are you doing for New Year's Eve?" she inquired as she daintily cleaned off some crouton crumbs on her cheek. Her look was very intense. I wasn't getting 'quite' sexual signs from her but something, somehow this was personal. That could only mean one thing."I'm spending it with Ms. Rio Talen but no set location has been chosen," I replied."Oh," she paused then, "There is a Science Fiction convention in Seattle that runs from December 29th to through the 1st. My friends and I are attending and Hical asked about you.""Deal but we have to fit Rio in," I agreed."I can send some Universe, TV and movie series and well as costuming information for her to look over," Victoria agreed tentatively."No need, she's a Klingon, a small craft captain whose Father betrayed the Empire and whose survival is a stain on her honor," I told her. "With that barely constrained fury, she's a natural. You teach her how to use that bat-a-rang and,""Batleth," Victoria interjected."Wicked-curved-bladey thing," I continued, "and you'll see. Oh, I'll need an Orion Slave Girl outfit and some green body paint for Mercy and all of her stuff by October 30th, cost is not an object.""I'll call my outfitter when you leave and I must say you are taking this rather well," Doctor Scarlet noted."Why? I had a blast in your office that time," I admitted. "As long as I'm not crawling in, screaming fur-balls, I'm okay. I'll be a human Starfleet Doctor Xeno-biologist who has done surgery on multiple species. A "Doctors Without Borders" kind of guy. I'll get Cordelia to build me an actual tricorder, trust me."We ate, she asked for my sizes, I gave her Rio's and Mercy's sizes; at the Con we were all 'Next Gen' except Mercy who would be Old School for Halloween. She offered me a chance to be a Borg but since they all looked to be in desperate need of a sun tan, I declined. All in all, it barely took twenty minutes."You did a very good job as Mediator this morning," the Vice Chancellor added as I made to leave."It is not so rough," I grinned. "WWKSD?""Wha, oh," she smiled warmly. "What would King Solomon do, clever.""Hell, the Bible has a whole book called Judges. This shit ain't so hard," I laughed as I breezed out the door. Ms. Reveal was waiting, as was Heaven.Heaven had to exert some will to not kiss me on the spot. Christina had lectured us on P D A, public displays of affection, during Homecoming. The more people who knew about us, the more the outcry and the stronger Chancellor's radical decision to keep Heaven on as part as the student body, would be challenged. As it was, our hands would casually brush one another until we got inside my dorm where I chased Heaven up the stairs, pinching her ass every time I caught up.After entering my code, I gauged Heaven's mood deciding we needed some quiet time; there would be too much traffic over most of the floor, and Heaven being too vocal, to get away with sex; and cuddling would be fine anyway. I caught sight of Rio with one of my Marksmanship team mates, Genesis."Hey Zane," Genesis stood up. She was a weird one, going from borderline contempt to grudging respect over the last two weeks. If I didn't know the impossibilities, I'd think she had a boyfriend. "Hope wants everyone at the Amory for an equipment check at seven. We leave at 8:15."Heaven held my hand tightly."Boudoir occopodo," Rio snickered as Genesis made her exit.Heaven's grip nearly crushed my hand, ouch."Babe," I whispered to Heaven, "let me check this out."I disentangled myself and went for the wall of screens that separated my bedroom area from the rest of the floor."Get some popcorn and get ready to sit a spell," Rio joked to Heaven who grumbled. I went around to see who, or whom, were using my room.Inside was not what I expected. Savannah Belafonte Masters had taken off her top (which was peach) and was rummaging with growing frustration through Barbie Lynn's bra drawer. I saw some grape juice splashed on her beige skirt. She saw me, pulled up her shirt to cover her bra-covered assets while looking a bit fearful and upset."What are you doing in here?" she asked softly."It is my bedroom," I replied. "What are you doing in my bedroom?""But, but Barbie Lynn's stuff is in here," she gasped."That would because it is her room too, we sleep together," I answered. That slowed her up for a second. "Can I help you with something?""I, I, I spilled juice on my shirt," she began."And your skirt," I pointed out.""Oh no," she choked back a sob. "What am I going to do? I'm a mess and none of Barbie Lynn's bras, shirts, or skirts are going to fit me." I mused over that for a second."I've stashed some bra extensions around here somewhere and that should allow for the difference is sizes between you and Barbie," I said. "Now give me your skirt and I'll find a replacement." She hesitated so I added. "I'm not going to molest one of my best friends' mom, Savannah. Give me your skirt and I'll take care of everything." This time she did it, though I had to turn my back.I padded back out to Rio and Heaven who had just returned with the popcorn."Rio, Heaven, I need you to break into Chancellor Bazz' residence and steal a skirt like this," I offered up Savannah's."Hell yeah," Rio exulted. "Time for a little Breaking Entry.""Oh, what the fuck," Heaven shrugged. "Count me in." She gave me a quick kiss and the two miscreants headed out on their nefarious mission. I went back to the bedroom and stumbled into Savannah, now with her bra off, eyeing two of Barbie Lynn's double barreled slingshots. Our eyes locked."Right," I spun away. "Bra extensions.""Zane, do you think I'm attractive?" Barbie Lynn's Mom asked.When women say that, they can mean three things;· the truth,· the lure, or· the lie.Some women want to know if you find them attractive. Others want you to find them attractive for nefarious means. Lastly, a few woman want to be reminded that they are beautiful. Savannah was the latter."If you are asking me if you are as good looking as Barbie Lynn, Mrs. Masters, I'll have to say no but that's because you are a lady who is fully a woman and Barbie Lynn is still leaving some of the girl behind. There is no comparison. You are both hot," I affirmed."I don't know," she sighed. "It is with my husband, then seeing you and Barbie Lynn, in the shower,”What's wrong with you and your husband, if I may intrude?" I asked."He had an accident at work, one of his factories, and he hasn't been the same," she sniffed."Do you love him?" I questioned. "Honestly.""Yes, yes I do," she sighed. "But he's just not there.""Do me a favor; come over and sit next to me and I promise to be as well behaved as a Montana Miner (hey, it is where my family comes from)," I said as I sat at the foot of the bed. Savannah very, very reluctantly came over and sat at my bed, but I said nothing."Yes?" she broke down and inquired finally."I want you to laugh," I related to her softly. "Laugh, laugh like you do with small kids.""But, I'm not sure," she began then I poked her in the ribs. "What?" So I tickled her under her arms. Savannah covered her breasts by mistake so I got some finger in and began making her giggle and squirm."Stop it," she gasped for breath, so I rolled onto my side and tickled her other underarm until she finally flailed in surrender."See Savannah, I'm not the bad guy," I grinned. "I'm not seducing you because I think you love Barbie Lynn's Dad and you simple need to worry a little bit less, and love yourself a little bit more.""How do I do that?" she panted."I want you to try on some of Barbie Lynn's new clothes and see what you like, and what your husband might like," I suggested. "I'm not asking you to dress like a teenager; but not every day is Sunday school either." Oh God, I was talking clothes therapy to someone's Mother."But," she stammered."There is a screen right over there," I pointed out, "that you can change behind and the armoire over here has a mirror.""But I'll be parading around here, in my bra and panties," she worried."Well, that's a bonus for me," I shrugged, "but a lady with a body like yours should be wearing bikini's with less material. Look at it that way.""Well, don't ogle, alright?""Sure," I lied. What was I going to say? 'I'll pluck out my eyes?'After several tentative steps walking to the dresser and looking over her shoulder at me with real worry that I might find her either too attractive or not attractive enough, I gave up. I covered my eyes because they gravitated toward her backside like a plant seeking the sun. A minute later she finally spoke up.

Jennifer Gomez paints a rosy picture of her upbringing. Her mom was a neurologist. Her Dad is a psychiatrist. She is the youngest of seven children. She said all of her siblings are successful. But as a child, she didn't see their success as enviable. She saw it as boring. She told Matt Austin and Ginger Gadsden on Florida's Fourth Estate, when she thought of their lives she thought, “Your life looks really boring, going to work every day, doing these routine mundane things.” She said she wanted excitement, and she found it in targeting wealthy homes and stealing some of their most prized possessions. Altogether, she said she burglarized hundreds of homes: “I don't actually know the number, I'm going solely by what the detectives said and what was in my paperwork. It was 200, on paper, documented, that you can find.” Now Gomez is coming clean sharing her stories on social media and warning people to stop doing simple things that make them and their homes a target. For starters she said to stop making assumptions, “These people would look at me in these neighborhoods, communicate with me, look me straight in the eyes, and never suspect anything because of the way that I look.” She added, “Everybody that's here to hurt you or cause you harm doesn't look the way your mind thinks they look. There's no stereotype.” Gomez pointed out she lived in wealthy communities and had wealthy friends and that the things they do to protect themselves often helped her plot against them. She said signage indicating which surveillance company a homeowner used, notifications that they had a pet, and large bushes helped her better plan her home burglaries. She said she also tried to target homes that were closer to the front of the community. She pointed out, “The last thing I wanted was to burglarize a home and then be stuck way in the back of the neighborhood and have to come out and possibly pass police officers or whomever.” However after breaking into hundreds of homes Gomez did eventually come across a homeowner, then police, and was arrested. She said she spent time behind bars on three separate occasions and even gave birth to her child when she was incarcerated. After getting out, Gomez said she turned her life around and is now committed to helping others avoid becoming a target. You can learn more about Gomez on Florida's Fourth Estate. As, I was listening through the whole edit, one thing stood out to me and that is that it really don't matter on comparing on everyone's faith walk with Christ. What that means is that I think typically in some point in your walk with Christ, you come across with people who are also in their walk with God but may have disagreements but yet have a fruitful conversation. Each episode is definitely always about learning yet sharing the gospel and how God has impacted myself or the guest. So enjoy, and I catch y'all next time :) As always for Season 2, we are inspired by this scripture: Matthew 5:9 " Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called the Children of God" See you all soon and catch you August 3rd at 8PM!!! John Krasinski is most famously known for playing Jim Halpert on “The Office.” However, he's also a movie director. His last two movies, “A Quiet Place” and “A Quiet Place Part II”, were ones that would give kids nightmares. In his latest movie, “If”, he tries to take them, and their parents, to a happy place instead. “If” is the story of Bea, a 12 year old girl that has gone through a tragedy and is staring a potential one head on. Her Dad is going through surgery for a heart problem. However, she starts seeing mysterious figures, and Ryan Reynolds. It turns out these mysterious figures are the former imaginary friends of different children. They're trying to inspire their former kids to remember them as their imaginary friends. Along the way, Bea decides to help them do that. Many kids have imaginary friends. Maybe you did too. If they were here they might steer you towards “If” or tell you it's the worst movie ever. Which one is it? I give you at least my opinion about “If” in this episode. “If” stars Ryan Reynolds, Cailey Fleming, John Krasinski, Phoebe Waller-Bridge, Steve Carell, Fiona Shaw, Louis Gossett Jr., Alan Kim, Liza Colon-Zayas, Bobby Moynihan, Catharine Daddario and Aubrey Hoffman.Support the Show.Feel free to reach out to me via:@MoviesMerica on Twitter @moviesmerica on InstagramMovies Merica on Facebook

Broken Hill-born country singer-songwriter Raechel Whitchurch spent most of her childhood travelling in her family's country music band, before establishing herself as one of Aussie music's most recognisable country artists. But her path to songwriting was far from guaranteed. In fact, it wasn't until her family saw Kasey Chambers' family group The Dead Ringer Band perform in Broken Hill that country music became a family career. Her Dad thought it would be a great way to make a living, so they all became self-taught musicians. After several local talent quests, the Lee family packed their lives into a caravan and hit the road on two laps of Australia and a six-month stint in Arnhem Land performing in their travelling country family band, The Lees. Raechel, the eldest, was aged only 12, but it's a lifestyle she has taken on as her own into adulthood with her husband Ben and three children on the road as well. And as Raechel tells us on Streets of Your Town, her songs don't flinch from telling the hardships as well as the fun times of life in rural and remote Australia. In this episode of Investors & Operators, Jordan sits down with Kim Smith, Chief Capital Formation Officer at Andalusian Credit Partners, to discuss her new role and dive deeper into her personal story. Together, they discuss:Her Dad's JourneyKim's Personal Health ScareInvesting Time with Veterans...and so much more.Top TakeawaysTime is more valuable than money. Kim and Jordan stress that time holds greater value than money. While financial assistance is great, the time spent with veterans, providing support, guidance, and mentorship, is often more meaningful and impactful. They highlight that being there for veterans as mentors and coaches, listening to their experiences, and fostering personal connection and mentorship is more beneficial than any monetary donation. Advocating the importance of genuine human interaction and support in assisting veterans in their post-military journey. The importance of giving back. When looking back on her upbringing, Kim emphasizes how her parents taught her the significance of sharing blessings with others. She explains that giving back includes even the simplest gestures like sharing a smile or extending a helping hand. Self-reflection on guiding values. Reflecting on a health scare, Kim sheds light on the importance of prioritizing self-care. She shares how pushing herself too hard, both personally and professionally, nearly led to a health crisis, forcing her to reevaluate her values and priorities. This experience served as a wake-up call, not only prompting her to make a change professionally but also to be more present in her everyday life. Through this time, she gained a newfound appreciation for life and to never take anything for granted.
This week I share a story that is going to resonate so deeply with anyone who felt total loneliness and abandonment growing up. Brooklyn is the sweetest soul you will ever meet. Before we met, Brooklyn sent me her most recent family photo which showed her mom and dad, her sister and brother-in-law, her own family and all the kids. Everyone is smiling and showing up as the happy family. But the truth is quite different. The reality is, Brooklyn's mom was an alcoholic. This was to be kept a secret her entire life. She could tell no one about the chaos that was unfolding every day in her family home, even to her closest friends. Brooklyn's mom was not there physically or emotionally. Her Dad was controlling, angry and triggered. He was unavailable emotionally or able to offer protection, care or love. And Brooklyn spent her life lurching from one crisis to another inside this chaotic family home. No safety, just fear. Trying endlessly to save her mom whilst trying not to trigger her Dad. And it has impacted everything about her life.If you have a story to share for this podcast please connect with me at www.instagram.com/mybigloveproject or send an email to bigloveproject@iinet.net.au. Kathryn was raised Catholic, but she only attended church on Easter Sunday. Her Dad was raised in the Catholic church, went to Catholic school and was an altar boy. She doesn't know the reasoning, but when he was raising them, religion wasn't important, and he seemed even be turned off by it. One reason may be because Kathryn's grandmother (his mom) would go to mass in the morning and be drunk by 2:00pm. As a child, If she would sleep over at a friend's house on a Saturday night, she would go to church with them on Sunday. Baptist, Lutheran, Methodist and she remembers a place called "Rock Church" where they danced and spoke in tongues! Nothing stuck. In her early 20's, she was wild. Partying all the time and after one extremely crazy night, decided she no longer wanted to live life that way. So, Kathryn hit her knees and prayed to God for help. Now, she may not have been raised in church. But she can tell you as sure as she typed this, God has been with her as far back as she can remember. She would talk to him all the time. He would answer. It wasn't audible, but she could always hear him. She can remember at 5 years old, as her Mom and Dad were in a drunken screaming fight, Ishe was crouched in a little bathroom of our military housing home. She got on her knees, and cried out to God. "Please, please take me back. You've made a big mistake. You've put me in the wrong family." Well, he didn't take her back. But things would get better for a while, before getting worse again. A few years later, she met Jon. He was Jewish. They bonded over their spiritual beliefs. She got married in a Japanese garden with a non-denominational pastor and she smashed the glass (Jewish tradition). They had children, and she did get them baptized. She knew this was important somehow but didn't really know why. They moved to Florida and her Jewish husband became a follower of Jesus (that's a whole other fascinating story of how that happened). But, as he started learning about the teachings of Jesus, he would share with them. They started going to a local church. Then started having family meetings. The foundation was laid. Enter "THE CHOSEN". The miniseries produced by Derral Eves and Dallas Jenkins. For the first time in Kathryn's whole life, it all makes sense! Pieces of the puzzle are fitting. The stories, the disciples, the places. It's like all the sudden, she sees in technicolor!!! When I found out she was interviewing Derral Eves, the Executive Producer of "The Chosen", she was so excited. He did not disappoint. Kathryn doesn't know where you are in your spiritual walk, but she knows this interview will have something in it for you. No matter what your faith or background. Oh and P.S... This episode kicks off Jon and Kathryn doing podcasts interviews together. They will still have guests they interview separately, but anytime they think when they have a guest or message both their audiences will enjoy, they will do a collab!

Join Wes in his studio for his first in-person interview! He chats with TNT: Tatum Noelle Tankersley, his 10-year old daughter about what success is and what it means to her. This interview helps Wes figure out camera angles and other set-up for future in-person interviews. Tatum thinks her Dad is famous because he has a podcast. She believes that anyone that has a podcast is famous. How many podcasters does she know anyway? Only her Dad! Well, Wes is famous to us!Wes and Tatum have a fun back-and-forth banter teasing each other. Wes asks Tatum a series of questions and comments she changes her mind like changing underwear. The subject of vegetables comes up. What vegetables does Tatum like? She likes her Mom's broccoli. Wes doesn't like green vegetables, but he does like a product called Magic Mind. It comes in a little bottle, and is a green liquid that tastes good, gives you energy, and helps with mental focus. It's better than coffee since caffeine is not good for you. Visit www.magicmind.com for more information. Check them out on Instagram at www.instagram.com/magicmind. Tatum says her Dad makes money from his podcast. She points out he sells sweatshirts, t-shirts, hats, and stickers. He's famous! Wes asks her what his podcast is about. She says it's about talking to people. After back-and-forth prodding by her Dad, she says something involving success. He asks her what does success mean? She says people shouldn't brag about it. Wes has said in the past that if you're good at something, you shouldn't have to talk about it. Just do it! Tatum has listened.What is Tatum's definition of success? It is winning because when you win you try harder to get better. Wes tells her his definition which is no matter what you do, do the best you can no matter what. Is Tatum a good student? According to her, she mostly works hard but gets easily distracted. She is in the 4th grade taking Spanish, Reading, History, Computers, Math, Art, and Phys Ed. Her favorite subject is Art. Her favorite thing to draw is people.She and Wes discuss why she likes art and hates math. She practices art but doesn't practice math. If she practices math more, she might like it more. Tatum wants to talk about her little brother, Nolan. Her favorite thing about her brother? He's squishy! Her least favorite? He screams, hits, bites, and listens to songs like Baby Shark. Tatum has a list of what she wants to be when she grows up. She wants to be a director, singer, teacher, author, and illustrator. Her Dad asks what does she have to do to make that happen? Practice! She helps her friend who writes. She listens to a lot of music and sings along mostly in the shower. One thing Tatum has is confidence! It's clear she retains what her Dad tells her and it's reflected in her answers. #shapingsuccesspodcast #westankersley #TNT #patreon #inpersoninterview #magicmind #mentalfocus #daugher #famous #merch #merchandise #success #hardwork #art #drawingEmail: wes@westankersley.comPatreon: Patreon.com/Wes TankersleyLinkedIn: LinkedIn.com/westankersleyFacebook: facebook.com/westankersley Facebook.com/successwarriorcrewInstagram; instagram.com/wes.tankersleyTik Tok: TikTok.com/wes.tankersley TikTok.com/shapingsuccessSupport the showFor merchandise, podcast and youtube: westankersley.com Check out our sponsor The Warriors Collection for coffee, gear and more use code TANK at check out for a special Discount! https://warriorscollectionbrand.com/ Follow Shaping Success https://shapingsuccesspodcast.buzzsprout.com/ Email Wes@westankersley.com for guest ideas or to be on the show!
Flowing East and West: The Perfectly Imperfect Journey to a Fulfilled Life
Throughout her life, Ashleigh Parker would get whispers of wisdom that, in her younger days she would ignore. Her Dad, a well-respected attorney, was a great role model to her, but she had no interest in practicing law until the moment it became clear that she was being called to that path. With that clarity she applied to, and graduated, from her father's alma mater and began her career as a prosecutor. She was equally as certain that she had no interest in procedural law, until she found fulfillment when she joined the NC Attorney General's office and was assigned to the DMV. Being a judge seemed far out of the realm of possibility, until she was named the youngest African American female to the NC bench. When considering where she wanted to work as a judge, she had zero interest in family court, until that was her assigned courtroom and she discovered that she loved it. Ultimately Ashleigh made the choice to stop letting resistance stand in the way of what she is meant to do, and instead, now finds her clarity by being still and listening to her gut, her god, and her guides. Bio: Judge Ashleigh Parker is a District Court Judge in the 10th Judicial District, which encompasses Wake County, located in Raleigh, NC. Prior to her appointment by Governor Roy Cooper in 2017, Judge Parker served the citizens of North Carolina as an Assistant Attorney General at the North Carolina Department of Justice and as an Assistant District Attorney at the Wake County District Attorney's Office. Judge Parker graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Wake Forest University and cum laude from North Carolina Central University School of Law. She has been practicing law since she was 24 years old. At age 30, Judge Parker was only the 3rd and youngest African American female to hold this position in Wake County since the District Courts were established over 50 years ago. Judge Parker prides herself on her judicial philosophy of being “R.E.A.L.: Respectful, Efficient, Active in the Community, and Learned in the Law." Judge Parker is passionate about increasing equity within the criminal justice system and educating our youth. She has written for multiple publications, including the North Carolina State Bar Journal, on topics related to racism, sexism, and natural hair within the legal profession. Additionally, Judge Parker has held numerous leadership positions in her profession and is currently Vice Chair of the NC State Bar CLE Committee and President of the 10th Judicial District Bar and Wake County Bar Association where she is the first African American female to be President of both bars and the youngest ever. Judge Parker serves as the lead Child Support Judge in Wake County and one of two Abuse, Neglect, and Dependency Judges. She is the Co-Founder of the Capital City Lawyer's Association Law Day Program. Since its inception in 2014, this program has afforded over 900 minority high school students the opportunity to engage in a mock trial, interact with minority officers and attorneys, and take a tour of the local jail. Most recently, Judge Parker is also the Co-Founder of the Wake County Legal Support Center which opened on January 9, 2023. This Center provides free legal information for individuals who wish to represent themselves with domestic and housing issues. Lastly, Judge Parker is a proud member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated and Jack and Jill of America, Incorporated. She lives in Raleigh with her 2 sons where they attend Elevation Church. Before Sargun Kaur got into tech, she was anti-wanting to be in tech. Her Dad was an engineer, and she thought the work he did was super boring. She pursued journalism, marine biology, and found her self changing interests a lot as she got bored. Now, she came over to the dark side, and jokes that she is no longer interesting because she is so immersed in what she does. Outside of tech, she loves to travel, building community, and hosting. This boils down to loving bringing people together through multiple means. And finally, she jokes that she is a mediocre instagram poet, enjoying writing semi-deep posts on the platform.When Sargon was applying at Google, she went through their normal engineering interview process - IE five whiteboard sessions back to back. After getting hired at Google, she struggled with the industry standard for interview questions, via algorithmic riddles, that didn't mirror the actual job. These types of interviews weren't only not fair, but left many great candidates out in the cold.This is the creation story of Byteboard.SponsorsCipherstashTreblleCAST AI FireflyTursoLinksWebsite: https://byteboard.dev/LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/sargunkaur/Support this podcast at — https://redcircle.com/code-story/donationsAdvertising Inquiries: https://redcircle.com/brandsPrivacy & Opt-Out: https://redcircle.com/privacy
Technology has become an essential part of our lives, so it's no surprise that it can be incredibly helpful during major life events. In this episode, Aimee sits down with Candice Smith, founder and CEO of Caregiven, to discuss practical ways to use technology during a life-changing event. They also chat about technology's limits and when a new app or tool may not be the right answer. Episode Highlights Set up a group text. One easy way to incorporate technology during a major event is to create a group text thread to keep multiple people informed of updates at once. When creating the group, ask the people on the thread to introduce themselves, so everyone can see who they are and not just a string of numbers. “I hate being on text threads, and there's just a phone number,” Candice said. Create an online calendar. After creating a group text, you will likely start to get an idea of how people might want to help and when they're free. However, this information can quickly get overwhelming with your other day-to-day responsibilities. Consider setting up a separate online calendar to organize appointments and information related to the major life event. By creating a distinct calendar that integrates with your personal and work calendars, you can easily access important information but still temporarily hide information that can be emotionally draining when you don't need it. “Sometimes these events are draining emotionally and you don't want to be reminded while you're at work,” Candice said. “Let's say that today is the day that hospice is coming in. I don't necessarily want to see that during the day.” Turn on alarms and reminders. When Candice's Dad was dying from cancer, she turned on audible alarms on his iPad to remind him to drink water. Her Dad would get so annoyed with the noise that he got up to turn off the alarm, but because he was already up, he ended up drinking the water he needed. “Reminders are a great thing to physically stop somebody from their day-to-day, even if it's just to turn it off,” Candice said. There's an app for that. Whether you're going through a pregnancy, breakup, or life-threatening illness, there's likely an app or technology that can help you navigate that life experience. Types of technologies that might help include: Baby monitors to hear noise in another room (even if you don't have an infant) Light fixtures for non-intrusive motion sensing Apple Watch or alert button to detect falls Keep in mind that when it comes to apps and technology, one size doesn't fit all and what works for you might not work for others. Also, you don't have to stick with the first app or service you try. “Nobody's out there Googling caregiving apps or mental health apps unless there's a reason -- and it's usually a dramatic or traumatic reason,” Candice said. “Figure out what you like and what you don't like. If it continues to work, that's great, but you don't have to stick with it and you don't have to feel guilty breaking up with the tech either.” Technology is not always the answer. Technology can be a great tool when it works -- but a nightmare when it doesn't. Further, new technologies often come with a learning curve, and the peak of a life-changing crisis may not be the best time to experiment with new tools or apps. If you're in the middle of a crisis, consider waiting to try new technology until you've had some time to settle and identify problems that technology may be able to simplify or solve. Also, Candice reminded listeners that technology doesn't replace the need for actually caring. “These instances are often the worst experience to date that somebody's lived through,” Candice said. “No matter how much easier we make it by using technology … it doesn't take away the fact it's still the worst experience they've gone through to date.” Resources + Links Candice Smith: Website, LinkedIn Caregiven: Website, Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn Kitchen Chats on YouTube Aimee Kandrac: Website, Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn WhatFriendsDo: Website, Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn About Aimee and WhatFriendsDo Aimee Kandrac is a speaker, consultant, and the co-founder and CEO of WhatFriendsDo. She is an accountant for a rehab hospital and enjoys reading, camping, cooking, and paddleboarding with her dog. She lives in Ontario, Canada, and has two children. Jess came from a family of drinkers. Her Dad was a heavy drinker. She started experimenting with alcohol in her early teens. At age 14, her Dad died suddenly, and her Mom's mental health deteriorated as a result. Jess hosted parties and smoked pot. Since her family didn't talk about things, drinking was an escape. All her friends drank and smoked, so it seemed commonplace. At one point, she started skipping school, and her sister intervened. Jess slowed down and appreciated the attention from her sister. After high school, she took some random jobs and habitually stopped working, excusing her behavior with feigned sicknesses. She made lots of excuses but never addressed the root problem. She quit her jobs before she got fired. Her temper flared when her drinking hit a certain point, and she became a monster. Jess moved back in with her Mom to curb expenses, and her drinking slowed slightly. Six months later, she moved in with her boyfriend, and they were drinking buddies. Jess got pregnant and abstained throughout her pregnancy but picked up again as soon as the baby was born. She bought into the “mommy wine culture .”Her Mom had dementia. Being around someone with dementia was difficult, and Jess' drinking escalated. Eventually, she went to an online AA meeting and cried. She felt so welcomed. She counted minutes to hours, and finally, it got easier. She is now grateful to be present with her kids and is learning to like herself.
