It tells the story of Ed Farhat aka The Sheik and how this veteran, family-man, and businessman became wrestling's most feared villain! Brian chronicles the Sheik's wrestling start, his early matches, how and when he morphed into his character, his feud with Bruno Sammartino, what inspired him to start and run his own territory in Detroit, and how he was able to go years without losing! He talks about The Sheik's promotional war against Dick The Bruiser in Detroit, his impact in Japan during the 70s with Giant Baba's All Japan, his resurgence in the 90s at FMW, the fire match that nearly killed him, his time working for Vince McMahon Sr., and his last matches tagging with his nephew and protégé Sabu. The greatest pro wrestling biography will be released on April 12. Blood and Fire: The Unbelievable Real-Life Story of Wrestling's Original Sheik is mandatory reading for fans of the genre. The son of Arab immigrants, Farhat proudly served his country in World War II before transitioning to professional wrestling. After a couple years, he developed his notorious persona, leveraging his Middle Eastern background to create an over-the-top character tailor-made for television, an emerging technology at the time. Over the next two decades, he criss-crossed North America, stabbing foes, collecting championships and riling up audiences along the way. In 1964, Farhat's entrepreneurial spirit fueled his purchase of Big Time Wrestling, also known as the Detroit territory, granting him a seat at the table of the most influential men in the business. Of course, all good things must come to an end, but I'll let you dive into the book for that. Author Brian Solomon, former writer at WWE Magazine and current contributor to PWI and Inside the Ropes, discusses WrestleMania 38, his "Shut Up and Wrestle" podcast and the arduous process of writing this magnificent book. Order the book here. Listen to the podcast here. Follow Brian on Twitter.

The wrestling business is no stranger to pushing the envelope with their content, where it's a little bit of female skin or a whole lot of blood and ultra-violence. But even in wrestling, there can be some storylines that go just a bit too far. This week Michael and Richard team up - the Mega Powers coming together, if you will - to take on a worthy foe in former WWE Magazine graphic designer James Walker to discuss some of the most controversial angles in wrestling history. And while Jeff would usually serve as referee for this catch-as-catch-can brawl, he's a little too biased. Wait? Is that Eddie Firth's music? Yes, we have an actual wrestling referee and stand up comedian here to tell us exactly everything we botched.
This week’s episode brought to you by Indy Wrestling US, Slice on Broadway, Occupy Pro Wrestling, and Lucha Fiesta! We've got a special Mike and Mike edition of the show this week as we're talking about some new news - and some old news in professional wrestling. This week we're talking about: Neville is back - - in Dragon Gate. Dear Chris DeJoseph: Mad Mike has some thoughts for Neville for Lucha Underground. xoxox Punishment Martinez is headed to WWE. Sorg is predicting that once the WWE Performance Center gets hold of Punishment Martinez, he's going to look a little different. A special, special thing happened to RAW. And, we think Tina Keys may be partially to blame. We can agree that Lio Rush was not ready for Seattle. OH: What happened in Seattle is like when you're shaving and accidentally hit an artery. Wait....Mad Mike was happy with something on RAW?!?!? We're talking some comparison between Brie Bella and Maurice. We're apparently imagining what Punishment Martinez smells like on this episode? The Shield was half of a 3-hour RAW. Wrap your head around that. Can we tell you about the Broken Universe? [Picture as a door-to-door mission group pitch.] There's a Super Show Down happening. We're sharing some thoughts. It's WWE writing - it's not supposed to be Shakespeare. We all see a Dean Ambrose turn coming. The question is whether it'll be at Super Show Down or the RAW after. Are we going to see a Kings of Wrestling reunion somewhere down the line? Sorg just realized that The Bushwackers may be a possibility to appear for Super Show Down. This week's Big Question: What is (other than the Mayhem Show of course) the best wrestling podcast (preferably from an actual wrestler)? Thanks to Dave Podnar for providing the Best of 2008 WWE Magazine for Sorg. It's a nice little time capsule that he's using to fill out the last part of the show. Sorg is playing Guess Who with the faces on the front of the Best of 2008 WWE Magazine he has in studio. We're trying to finagle a way to watch No Holds Barred with David Arquette... What did YOU learn in wrestling this week? Follow our stable on Twitter: Mad Mike (@MadMike4883), and Sorg (@Sorgatron). I performed with Brian Solomon a few weeks ago at Kevin Geeks Out About Wrestling at Alamo Drafthouse and knew immediately he would be a great guest on the show. We've talked a lot about wrestling on the show, Brian wrote for WWE Magazine from 2000 through 2007. Brian shares stories from his WWE days while also talking about his new book Pro Wrestling FAQ, which you can get at Amazon! You can also like Facebook.com/ProWrestlingFAQ!
