Mick Foley turns the McMahon family against itself with a Survivor-style vote to decide who faces The Rock. Tommy Blacha and Rob Pasbani break down the August 17, 2000 episode of WWF SmackDown, live from the Worcester Centrum in Worcester, Massachusetts, with SummerSlam just two weeks away.Shane, Triple H, Stephanie, and Kurt Angle open the show by declaring themselves a united family, but Foley quickly detonates it by replaying the footage of Kurt kissing Stephanie's cheek from Raw. Rather than pick The Rock's opponent himself, Foley forces the McMahon camp to vote among themselves — with Shane volunteering first before the group ultimately settles on Triple H. Angle storms off in a fury, telling Stephanie he feels voted off the island.Triple H gets the win in the main event only after Kurt Angle runs down with a chair and helps him double-team The Rock, giving The Rock his second pinfall loss in two shows heading into SummerSlam. Elsewhere, Trish Stratus grabs a water pitcher from the announcer's table and smashes it over Chyna's head during the Eddie Guerrero vs. Val Venis Intercontinental Championship match, setting up Trish and Val vs. Chyna and Eddie at SummerSlam.Other major discussion points include:- Rikishi gives Terri the Stink Face after The Cat recruits him as her partner in a mixed tag match against Perry Saturn and Terri, featuring a monkey flip in high heeled boots- Edge and Christian redefine TLC as Totally Lacking Coolness and teach Worcester the word hanosity, before losing to Jeff Hardy and D-Von Dudley in a match that sows dissension between the Hardys and the Dudleys- Chris Benoit defeats Steve Blackman in a Hardcore Championship match with Chris Jericho on commentary, leading to a candid discussion about how this footage ages given what Benoit would later do- Tommy Blacha explains why Kane was plugged into the Undertaker feud after Big Show was sent to OVW because management grew unhappy with him- Kane destroys X-Pac and Road Dogg, takes the mic, and announces he is a monster before brawling with Undertaker- Big Bossman refers to Kaientai as his Chinese buddies and then oriental buddies as they try to correct him, with Crash Holly and the APA picking up the win- A recap of Sunday Night Heat, including Dean Malenko retaining the Light Heavyweight Championship, a Jericho promo officially announcing his two-out-of-three falls match with Benoit at SummerSlam, Kurt Angle defeating Matt Hardy, and Stephanie McMahon attacking Lita to set up their Raw Women's Championship match---Just announced! Ryan and Cindy continue their journey through the spring of 2001. We get to the main show rather quickly, because not much happened to build up the show, since the top 3 matches are just rematches from the month before. Despite the rematches there is a bunch to talk about, including: Rikishi's back! And trying to stick his ass in William Regal's face. Kurt Angle and Chris Benoit reach the climax of their feud in a two out of three falls match. Rhyno continues to build up the hardcore title.  Chyna defending her Women's title against Lita, in what proved to be her last match and going over her legacy.  Kane and Triple H having a chain match for the IC title. Tag Turmoil match ending with Chris Benoit and Chris Jericho forming a team. Just like 1997 and 1999, it's time for a May PPV to have Steve Austin against the Undertaker for the World title. We also look at a very different feeling Raw the night after, featuring Kurt Angle re-coronation with his gold medals, the Molly Holly/Spike Dudley romance, an all-time tag team match, and it's Judgment Day for Triple H's quadriceps (for the first time). Enjoy the show!

This week on Tales from the Attitude Era, former WWF writer Tommy Blacha and co-host Rob Pasbani recap the June 5, 2000, episode of RAW is WAR from the Blue Cross Arena in Rochester, New York. The night begins with massive dissension in the McMahon-Helmsley faction as Triple H, Vince McMahon, and Shane McMahon engage in a family shoving match that results in everyone—including Stephanie McMahon—getting slapped.A major talking point this week is how that "laborious" opening segment threw off the timing for the entire broadcast. Tommy Blacha provides unique insight into the backstage stress that occurs when segments run long, forcing the creative team and performers to truncate every single undercard match to fit the remaining time.We also address the "bamboozle" regarding The Undertaker's entrance music. While the network versions feature a generic theme, original recordings prove he was using Kid Rock's "American Badass" from day one. Tommy Blacha shares a hilarious story about Kevin Dunn blasting the track on a private jet until everyone was sick of it.Other highlights from this episode include:The Rock, The Undertaker, and Kane battling in a high-stakes Triple Threat match for a title shot.Rikishi delivering a devastating Stink Face to Trish Stratus.- Too Cool defending their WWF Tag Team Championship against The Hardy Boyz.- Crash Holly continuing his relentless quest to reclaim the Hardcore Championship.- The Rock and Triple H closing the show with a pay-per-view quality television main event for the WWF Championship.0:00 - Intro1:35 - WWF legal battles & the move to Spike TV3:55 - Rochester, NY: The "glitch" in the graphic5:55 - The Undertaker's real entrance music revealed8:20 - Vince McMahon, Brisco, & Patterson arrive10:50 - Opening Segment: Triple H vs. Vince vs. Shane dissension11:25 - Deep Dive: How the long opening segment ruined the show's timing16:55 - The Rock interrupts / The family slap-fest18:55 - Kane & The Undertaker demand title shots21:00 - Why WWF gave away main events on free TV25:40 - Match 1: Too Cool & Rikishi vs. Val Venis, Test & Albert30:40 - Trish Stratus takes a Stink Face!32:45 - Crash Holly's backstage parking lot fail33:25 - Match 2: Chris Benoit vs. Road Dogg (The impact of time cuts)35:45 - Kane interview: "I don't have a brother"36:45 - Gerald Brisco vs. Crash Holly (Hardcore Championship)39:15 - Triple Threat Match: The Rock vs. Kane vs. The Undertaker41:25 - Triple H interferes / The Rock earns the title shot42:02 - Match 3: Eddie Guerrero vs. Dean Malenko (Truncated stories)45:43 - KOTR Qualifier: Hardcore Holly vs. Faarooq47:15 - 6-Man Tag: Dudley Boyz & Chris Jericho vs. Angle, Edge & Christian50:10 - The Hardy Boyz vs. Boss Man & Bull Buchanan52:15 - Stephanie McMahon announces a Women's Battle Royal56:40 - Main Event: Triple H vs. The Rock (WWF Championship)1:02:25 - Final Thoughts: Burnout & the cycle of wrestling writing1:12:45 - Inside Baseball: The reality of Kayfabe today1:15:20 - OutroFollow Tales from The Attitude Era on all social mediahttp://youtube.com/@TFTAttitudeEra http://twitter.com/TFTAttitudeErahttp://instagram.com/TFTAttitudeErahttp://tiktok.com/@TFTAttitudeEra Hosted on Acast. Happy (belated) Thanksgiving! As is tradition in wrestling, that of course means it is Survivor Series time. Ryan and Cindy continue their trek at Survivor Series 2000. When we last left we were among accusations that the Rock had told Rikishi to hit Steve Austin with his car, and newly crowned WWF Champion Kurt Angle looked to be heading to a feud with Triple H. We start by talking about the sudden change in direction, with Triple H benign the mastermind of hitting Steve Austin and the Undertaker becoming #1 contender.  We look at Molly Holly debuting against T&A and Trish Stratus along with Ivory RTC women's title run. We look at the return of the Radicalz and Road Dogg dressing even more ridiculous than ever.  The Chris Jericho/Kane coffee feud.  Rock/Rikishi having a really fun hate filled match.  Kurt Angle taking on Undertaker in his snake themed pants. TWIN MAGIC!  A long, long brawl with Triple H and Steve Austin and the new Survivor Series tradition: ATTEMPTED MURDER! We then go to Smackdown for the 2nd annual Smackdown food fight! All this and much more. Enjoy!

Ryan and Cindy are back for the start of their sixth year, deep into 2000. We start talking about the big reveal of Stone Cold's assailant and get into the big show, ending with Olympic glory. We start talking about the big reveal of Rikishi hitting Stone Cold and how it was either a let-down, or at least out of nowhere.  We talk about the Dudley Boys Tag Team Invitational and how it is an unique way to get a lot of guys on the card. The ending, it seems, of the Chris Jericho/X-Pac feud, with the match taking place inside the confines of a steel cage. We talk about how Eddie Guerrero has gone full heel, taking a shower with the ho's and how he is now adjacent to the RTC due to their hatred of Chyna and her Playboy issue.  The (kind of) in-ring return of Stone Cold Steve Austin as he takes out his frustrations on Rikishi and attempts to kill him, before police intervene. A little levity with Naked Mideon taking on William Regal for the European title.  The saga of the Los Conquistadors winning Tag Team gold…2 nights in a row!?! Kurt Angle capping his first year in the WWF with a World title win. We look at clips of the next few Raws, including Ivory joining the RTC, Edge Christian and Kurt Angle celebrating Edge's birthday and Rikishi confessing that the Rock was the mastermind behind hitting Steve Austin. All this and much more. Enjoy!
