"Digital did not ruin filmmaking. Digital gave us the Duplass brothers. Digital democratized it and then people were like, 'Oh well, it's not digital that's going to ruin it, it's this thing called YouTube that's going to ruin it.' And in fact YouTube is incredibly entertaining and good stuff percolates up all the time. And I would just say, sadly every new technology turn has been met with the same argument of it's going to ruin X, and yet it hasn't."Today's episode is a sit down with Matt's friend and award-winning film director, Ben Hansford, where they discuss AI and how it's affecting actors & the entertainment industry. Ben, one of the leading creatives in the A.I. & Machine Learning space (which he now teaches at USC), has worked on multi-national campaigns for some of the world's largest brands including Nike, Old Spice, Bethesda, Call of Duty, Bungie, Activision, EA, X-Box, Microsoft, Mountain Dew, Marvel, & more. So sit back and enjoy this honest, thought-provoking conversation where Matt & Ben discuss AI and not only it's affect on actors, but the industry as a whole.10,000 NOs is here to inspire you and help you realize you are not alone if you're battling to overcome rejection in your career or life. So, if you're an actor, writer or filmmaker and you like what you hear in the snippets from our Working Actors Community zooms enough to want to be a part of it, CLICK HERE.Remember, “failure” is just opportunity in disguise, and you can flip the script to make your setbacks serve you.SHOW LINKS:10,000 NOs: THE BOOKSUBSCRIBE TO OUR (WEEKLY) NEWSLETTERFOLLOW MATT ON SOCIALFIND OUT HOW YOU CAN JOIN THE WORKING ACTORS COMMUNITY
"It's a never ending challenge to stay in the right head and continue to believe that whatever is next is on its way. "It's always the things that everybody else thinks are mistakes that are actually advantages if we look at them that way."Today's episode was ripped directly from one of our 10,000 NOs Working Actors Community weekly zooms where Matt addresses the challenges that face our members. Today, we discuss how hardships can actually be an opportunity. If we get too fixated on our problems we can miss the opportunities right around us. Matt uses the acting example of Marlon Brando in On The Waterfront. In one particular scene, Eva Marie Saint's character drops her glove. Brando's character picks up the glove and put it on while sitting on the swing. This "mistake" ended up being a memorable moment that many believed symbolized the intimacy in the character's relationship. “And that's a little bit of our conundrum: Acting is our number one thing, but that's very up and down. So how much do you just wait and put everything into Acting? And how much are you doing things with the down time? And can those be the same thing?”Today's episode was ripped directly from one of our 10,000 NOs Insiders Acting Community weekly zooms where Matt addresses the challenges that face our members. Today, we get into the common internal battle than many actors face: what is the best way to spend my time while searching for my next gig while also providing for myself and my family? “There's nothing better: you negotiate the deal and you start thinking and planning your life… and about two weeks before I was meant to go, I get the call: the European studio backed out, they're scrapping the entire project, it's over.”Today's special episode is a sit down with my old friend and colleague (from Wind River and Teen Wolf), Ian Bohen. You may know him as Ryan from Yellowstone, but as you'll hear, he's been kicking around for a long, long time (in fact, he played a young Kevin Costner as a 15 year old in Wyatt Earp all the way back in 1994). His years on the road, hearing plenty of NOs along with all of the YES's has brought him hard-earned wisdom, which he dispenses with ease for actors, and anyone in a competitive field, to learn from.10,000 NOs is here to inspire you and help you realize you are not alone if you're battling to overcome rejection in your career or life. So, if you're an actor, writer or filmmaker and you like what you hear in the snippets from our Insiders Acting Community zooms enough to want to be a part of it, CLICK HERE.Remember, “failure” is just opportunity in disguise, and you can flip the script to make your setbacks serve you.SHOW LINKS:10,000 NOs: THE BOOKSUBSCRIBE TO OUR (WEEKLY) NEWSLETTERFOLLOW MATT ON SOCIALFIND OUT HOW YOU CAN BE A 10,000 NOs INSIDER

In TODAY'S EPISODE OF 10,000 NOs Podcast , a solo riff, I talk about the social experiment known as The Metro Experiment, where world class violinist Joshua Bell was observed playing his $3.5 million dollar Stradivarius in disguise on a subway platform, wearing a hoody as commuters waited for their train. The results were astounding. And they shine a light on artists who have been devaluing themselves, or giving up, because gatekeepers (those who have the power to move said artists' careers forward) haven't recognized their talents... yet. I talk about past guest Terry Winter's crazy journey to the top of Hollywood, as well as Taylor Sheridan's meteoric rise in Hollywood, pointing out that had they listened to the gatekeepers early on in their careers, we wouldn't have such films and shows as The Wolf of Wall Street, Wind River, Boardwalk Empire, Yellowstone, Tulsa King and many, many more. Terry Knickerbocker has coached elite actors like Daniel Craig, Michelle Williams and Sam Rockwell. He's coached actors on performances that have won an Academy Award, Golden Globe Awards and Screen Actors Guild Awards. That's how he became dubbed "New York's Top Acting Coach". But in Today's Episode of 10,000 NOs Podcast, Terry returns (he was on the pod before the pandemic) to speak to the members of our 10,000 NOs Insiders Community and dispel the myth of the elite. He believes that the main distinction between our elite class of actors and the rest of the pack lies in their attention to the work and building a foundation of technique and approach. Many anecdotes of his collaboration with famous actors are dropped but the bottom line is that training is essential if we expect to create the confidence necessary to deliver consistent performances on par with the best of the best.10,000 NOs podcast is now in it's 2.0 phase: after a long pause from late 2021 to late 2023, it has returned in a more raw format: shorter episodes, like the Monday Morsels of yesteryear (they may be short, solo riffs by Matt on central themes of the pod, excerpts from Matt's 10,000 NOs Insiders Community Zooms, or excerpts from Insiders VIP sessions with VIPs from the entertainment interview and beyond). St. Patrick's Day brings the phrase "The Luck of the Irish" out more than the rest of the year. So today's episode dives into the history of that phrase as an excuse to discuss a central theme of this podcast and a philosophy of almost every guest we've been lucky enough to have on it: Luck is when preparation meets opportunity. Choosing purpose over comfort, looking forward to goals and then reverse-engineering the path to them, and making sacrifices on a daily basis are all ingredients in the preparation that will lead you to the results you desire. And you can rest assured knowing that once you attain them, no matter how hard you worked for them, a good portion of people around you, near and far, will say you got lucky. And, full disclosure, you did... luck is an ingredient in success. But your preparation set you up to be in a position to get "lucky".10,000 NOs podcast is now in it's 2.0 phase: after a long pause from late 2021 to late 2023, it has returned in a more raw format: shorter episodes, like the Monday Morsels of yesteryear (they may be short, solo riffs by Matt on central themes of the pod, excerpts from Matt's 10,000 NOs Insiders Community Zooms, or excerpts from Insiders VIP sessions with VIPs from the entertainment interview and beyond). If we wait around until "the time is perfect" or "the draft is done" or we get "the perfect take", we'll never try out for that team or ask that girl/guy out or make that movie or send in a self-tape audition... or release that podcast episode or write that book. So let this week be a reminder to you that if you are just in the game, you can pat yourself on the back for giving it a whirl. Could you be better? Sure. Do you want to strive to be better? Absolutely. But maybe right now your best is just wherever you are at the moment. One thing I've learned as I've gotten older: beating myself up is not as constructive as I thought it was... so go easy on yourself, get some rest, and then get back in the game with higher intensity when you can. In the meantime, don't throw out everything you've worked for with last week's garbage and trash yourself for not being perfect. No one is perfect. There's no such thing.10,000 NOs podcast is now in it's 2.0 phase: after a long pause from late 2021 to late 2023, it has returned in a more raw format: shorter episodes, like the Monday Morsels of yesteryear (they may be short, solo riffs by Matt on central themes of the pod, excerpts from Matt's 10,000 NOs Insiders Community Zooms, or excerpts from Insiders VIP sessions with VIPs from the entertainment interview and beyond). While many people identify Award Winning Actor Michael Imperioli with his role of Christopher Moltisanti on The Sopranos, or more recently, as Dominic Di Grasso, on The White Lotus, his talent stretches far beyond his thespian roots. He has written screenplays, novels and episodes of television. He has developed Television shows, plays in a band, practices Buddhism and has run his own theater with his wife. He is an artist's artist.Far from the hot-headed Moltisanti, Michael ponders, jokes and waxes philosophically with me. He also tells some pretty great stories of how his early career opportunities, like Goodfellas, changed the course of his career and introduced him to talents like Spike Lee. And how the super stardom of The Sopranos did not answer all of his prayers, paving his path to Buddhism. Like the rest of the actors I've sat down with on 10,000 NOs, he is not immune to rejection and travels the same winding trail as his less famous counterparts.10,000 NOs podcast is now in it's 2.0 phase: after a long pause from late 2021 to late 2023, it has returned in a more raw format: shorter episodes, like the Monday Morsels of yesteryear (they may be short, solo riffs by Matt on central themes of the pod, excerpts from Matt's 10,000 NOs Insiders Community Zooms, or excerpts from Insiders VIP sessions with VIPs from the entertainment interview and beyond). In TODAY'S EPISODE OF 10,000 NOs Podcast triple-threat Mike Doyle talks with me and my 10,000 NOs Insiders Community about his transition from an actor who was just waiting for the phone to ring to an actor who writes and directs his own films (with Academy Award nominees, Emmy Award winners and SAG Award winners) in order to have a bigger piece of the creative pie and tell stories that he's passionate about. Mike is a living example of the kind of artists I'm constantly pushing members of our community to mimic: his foray into filmmaking has not hampered his acting career, it has enhanced it. 10,000 NOs podcast is now in it's 2.0 phase: after a long pause from late 2021 to late 2023, it has returned in a more raw format: shorter episodes, like the Monday Morsels of yesteryear (they may be short, solo riffs by Matt on central themes of the pod, excerpts from Matt's 10,000 NOs Insiders Community Zooms, or excerpts from Insiders VIP sessions with VIPs from the entertainment interview and beyond). Today's episode features my longtime friend, Chris Messina, from when he graciously dropped in via Zoom as our Industry VIP to speak to the participants of our first Let's Shoot the Rehearsal Weekend-Intensive On-camera Retreat back in June of 2023 (we are very excited to be hosting our 4th iteration of the Weekend-Intensive next weekend). This is a MUST-LISTEN for the actors amongst you: Chris has made a career of coloring outside the lines, following his impulses and finding a unique way to interpret the material he works on.This past year, his performance in Ben Affleck's Air, though only consisting of phone calls with Matt Damon's character, placed him on a multitude of shortlists for a Best Supporting Actor Academy Award. Ultimately, the nomination didn't come, but it's his ability and willingness to push the envelope and dig deeper than most other actors that has led to his long career working with the best in the business.10,000 NOs podcast is now in it's 2.0 phase: after a long pause from late 2021 to late 2023, it has returned in a more raw format: shorter episodes, like the Monday Morsels of yesteryear (they may be short, solo riffs by Matt on central themes of the pod, excerpts from Matt's 10,000 NOs Insiders Community Zooms, or excerpts from Insiders VIP sessions with VIPs from the entertainment interview and beyond). Today's episode is a solo riff based on two podcasts that I recently listened to: former 10,000 NOs guest, Bedros Keuilian on The Bedros Keuilian Show talking about How to Silence the Negative Voices In Your Head in 2024 and Father Mike Schmitz on The Bible in a Year on Day 25: Job's Questioning. I delve into the merits of hard work and daily tasks, while also discussing the need for faith and belief in something larger than what is right in front of you (the spiritual realm). I also get into our attitudes and feelings about our sufferings, offering a lesson from the famous biblical story about Job.
