On our show, "Howling At The Full Moon", we're going with something a little more recent with our 32nd episode and deep diving into one of the shortest feature films ever with the 2023 effort "MURDERBOT" aka "KILLBOTS". Directed by Jim Wynorski and starring Melissa Brasselle, August Kyss, Rib Hillis, Lisa London, and Becky LeBeau. This movie is a sort of all over the place mess that mixes desert town shenanigans with some college kids and elements of The Terminator (whose comparisons is merely skin deep). This shorty feature (clocking in at only 46 minutes) is about what happens when a sentient robot goes on a killing spree. Discussion headed off by our regular hosts Cameron Scott and Full Moon enthusiast Dustin Hubbard as they take a deep dive into a dissection of this sci-fi romp. "Have a nice day!"

A productive week at the Cannes Film Festival for Django Nudo and the Smut Peddler. There was the launch of the European Genre Film Foundation (EGFF), which aims to research, preserve, restore and promote classic niche films, as well as meetings and deals for more films from British and European libraries. Thanks to our friends at Severin we had a 'Shock U Docu' seasons, where the new films included The Real Bruce Lee (1977) cash-in on the kung-fu legend's death, making-of Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Shocking Truth (2000), and Ban the Sadist Videos! (2005) about the UK's 1980s 'video nasties' moral panic. One such film is the low-budget video shocker Suffer, Little Children (1983). We've paired it with obscure Southern slasher A Day of Judgment (1981).From our mates at Echelon we have an eclectic mix of 50s, 60s, 70s and 80s genre bending films. Frankenstein Meets the Spacemonster (1965) - Originally conceived as a comedy, this sci-fi/horror parody became a serious sci-fi but with outrageous costumes and premise of Martian Princess coming to Earth (Puerto Rico, specifically) to kidnap women and re-populate her planet. The theme song could have been a hit. The Magnetic Monster (1953) - Doesn't actually feature a real monster. Instead radiation-electricity 'serranium' threatens to destabilise Earth. A film that put the SCIENCE into science fiction, and is made 65% from recycled stock footage, so much so that an editor was hired to direct it. H.O.T.S. (1979) - Collage sex comedy cashing in on the success of Animal House. The sorority uniform of tight white t-shirts and red shorts is said to have inspired the Hooters informs. Features three (four?) Playboy Playmates, a former Miss USA of 1972, sexploitation actress Angela Aames, and later genre movie veteran Lisa London in her film debut. My Mom′s a Werewolf (1989) - Bored housewife gets bitten by pet store owner in the toe (!) and slowly starts turning lycanthropic. Can she hide it from her family and will her daughter be able to reverse the curse in time? Real 1980s nostalgia viewing, plus a rare female werewolf movie. Time Walker (1982) - Alien mummy from Egypt terrorises US college campus in search of sacred crystals. It was the first rental VHS Django Nudo ever saw, so he goes into a nostalgic reverie. The new BluRay of Thriller a Cruel Picture, with a behind-the-scenes docu by Cultpix, sold out quickly. Meanwhile a new luxurious, limited edition Mexican BluRay release of the film Svart cirkel/Black Circle (2019) is also out. Plus always a new Spotify playlist.
On this edition of Parallax Views, the independent genre film factory that is Charles Band's long running Full Moon Features has a quirky new sci-fi/fantasy adventure on the horizon that's of, shall we say, epic proportions. Although Full Moon's known for serving up pint-sized mayhem with such franchises as Puppet Master and Demonic Toys, they're going BIG this time around with Attack of the 50 Ft. Camgirl! A riff on the immortal 1958 B-movie classic Attack of the 50 Ft. Woman, the film that may have created a million giantess fetishists w/ it's buxom star Allison Hayes, puts an Instagram influencer twist on the often-told science fiction tale of the gargantuan beauty run amuck and even features a showdown between not one but two glamorous Godzilla-sized gals. Joining me to discuss Full Moon's latest sci-fi/fantasy romp, are director Jim Wynorski and star Ivy Smith, making her acting debut as the titular 50 ft camgirl! First up is Ivy Smith, who talks a little bit about the film, the story of it, how she got into modeling, how she ended up as the 50 ft camgirl, the anxiety that comes with doing a nude scene, destroying miniatures in the climatic showdown of the giantesses, getting rude messages from men asking her to step on them (if you want to do that send money!) and working with director Jim Wynorski, producer Charles Band, and actresses Christine Nyugen and Lisa London among other things! Then, Jim Wynorksi comes on the program and chastisize me a bit for asking questions that aren't stupid enough. We talk about how Attack of the 50 ft Camgirl came to be, what he learned from maverick exploitation producer Roger Corman, why men are into the giantess fetish, his friendship with Traci Lords (who made her non-adult debut in Jim's 1988 remake of Not of This Earth), the legendary character of Orville Ketchum in Jim's cult classics Sorority House Massacre II and its sequel Hard to Die (as well as the interesting details on how those films got made!), Jim's sense of humor, how my original questions bored him to tears, his upcoming feature Bigfoot or Bust, working with Stormy Daniels and why he didn't like that experience, and more! All in all this is one of the sillier and weirder episodes of Parallax Views I've done to date! Many thanks to Chris Alexander and Full Moon Features for making it happen! And if any of my listeners are in Dallas, be sure to stop by Texas Frightmare Weekend where you can see the premiere of Attack of the 50ft Camgirl and meet both Full Moon head honcho Charles Bad and the beautiful, talented Ivy Smith (Friday only for Ivy!)! And be sure to check out Ivy Smith's Facebook page

My guest on this podcast episode is Los Angeles film and TV casting director Lisa London. Lisa has won an Artios Award from the Casting Society of America for Outstanding Achievement in Casting. She is the author of the book From Start to Stardom: The Casting Director’s Guide for Aspiring Actors. Some of the many Film and TV projects Lisa London has cast over her 25-plus year career, alongside her casting partner Catherine Stroud, include Hannah Montana, Grandma’s Boy, The House Bunny, Suite Life of Zak and Cody, Sandy Wexler, The Poison Rose, Freaks, and upcoming films to be released in 2020, Switched, Eat Wheaties, and Through The Glass Darkly. She is a member of The Casting Society of America. Lisa shares advice for actors on auditions, how to succeed in the industry, how to get on the radar of a casting director even if you don’t yet have an agent, and much more. She is a passionate advocate for actors, and the dedication comes through in this very generous interview. Some of my favorite quotes from our conversation: “Part of what we look for as casting directors is not only your talent, but your personality.” “I don’t ever tell actors, or their parents, ‘you have to move here right away.’ Work in your local market and gain some credits there.” “When you come into a casting room, be a PERSON. I’m looking for the whole package.” “Do your homework. The more you know, the better you do.” “Part of the reason actors don’t get callbacks is they don’t take direction.” “You have to make a choice. But you can’t get so stuck in your choice that you can’t change.” “I think Improv is super important. It’s a great training ground for all actors.” “My job is the find the talent for film and TV shows, and to facilitate the producer/director’s vision.” “We see potential in actors. And we have to sometimes convince other people of that potential.” “For every no, there’s a yes.” “I put Jennifer Aniston in her first movie, Leprochaun… we cast Yara Shahidi in her first series.” “Do you know how many times we’ve met somebody and said, ‘They’re not exactly right for this, but we’re going to put them in a different part, or a different project’?” The fun of casting for me, is I get to meet you, see your personality, work with you, and direct you.” “Create! Make stuff! Do stuff! You have to stay proactive.” Don’t coach your kids.” “If this is your dream and your passion, you have to persist… no matter what happens, you can’t give up. That door is going to open for you.” Follow Lisa London here: Website: http://londonstroudcasting.com/ Instagram: @LisaLondonCasting Twitter: @LLondonCasting Facebook: @London/StroudCasting Buy her book here: From Start to Stardom The Backstage Article Lisa wrote and referenced: 4 Reasons You Didn’t Get a Callback There is so much you can do to prepare for a successful acting career right where you are today. Lisa London joins Bob & Suzanne and delivers a message every actor needs to hear! Lisa is the daughter of Jerry London, one of Hollywood’s legendary television directors. She grew up on her dad’s sets surrounded by major Hollywood stars. It was there that she found her show business inspiration. In her teens, Lisa realized she had a unique instinct for spotting talent. After working as a production assistant, she landed an apprenticeship with Lynn Stalmaster and Toni Howard, two of Hollywood's most legendary casting directors. In classic work-your-way-up-from-the-bottom Hollywood fashion, Lisa ultimately joined with Catherine Stroud to build London-Stroud Casting, now a respected resource for studios, directors, and producers who are looking for the “special someone.” After more than two decades casting for major studios like Sony Pictures, 20th Century Fox, Adam Sandler’s Happy Madison Productions, as well as for every major broadcast network, London-Stroud has been consistently responsible for discovering young acting talent and putting them on the road to stardom. It was Lisa’s keen eye for talent that tapped Myley Cyrus for her showbiz debut as Hanna Montana, cast Jennifer Aniston in her first feature film, and brought superstars like Emma Stone, Mark Ruffalo, Jonah Hill, and Selena Gomez to the public’s attention. In this interview, you’ll hear how Lisa came to write From Start to Stardom – The Casting Director’s Guide for Aspiring Actors, a serious step-by-step roadmap to breaking into and thriving in the Hollywood acting scene. She also talks about the realities of casting sessions and the necessity to “make a choice” as an actor, and shares her tips for a successful professional audition. If you’ve ever dreamed of an acting career…if you truly want that starring role…you’ll want to hear Lisa London as she shares her passion.
