Gostou do podcast? Junte-se ao Cineclube Cinematório e tenha acesso a conteúdo exclusivo de cinema. Dennis is joined via Zoom by writer-director Elliot Tuttle to talk about his debut feature Blue Film, which is about a 20-something camboy who takes a lot of money to spend the night with an anonymous client, who ends up being a former school teacher and convicted sex offender from his small hometown. Elliot talks about why he wanted to tell this story, the knockout performances he got from his two actors, Reed Birney and Keiron Moore, keeping the budget low so he could total creative freedom and why he chose to use old camcorder footage as a visual motif in the film. Other topics include: Elliot working at Dennis's favorite L.A. revival house Vidiots, the role an intimacy coordinator played in the project, how he got to know and become mentored by indie film icon Mark Duplass and the movie review website he launched when he was ten.

Backrooms (2026) Directed by: Kane Parsons Written by: Will Sudick Starring: Chiwetel Ejiofor, Renate Reinsve, Mark Duplass, Finn Bennett, Lukita Maxwell IMDB: Backrooms (2026) Episode Summary In this episode of Mindframes, Michael and Dave discuss Backrooms (2026), an A24 horror film directed by 20-year-old YouTube filmmaker and wunderkind Kane Parsons — believed to be the youngest person to ever direct a widely released feature film. The discussion covers the film's expansion of the internet liminal space phenomenon into a feature-length narrative, its Tarkovsky-esque atmosphere, and the remarkable work of cinematographer Jeremy Cox and production designer Danny Vermette in bringing 30,000 square feet of meticulously constructed sets to life. The conversation digs deep into why liminal spaces resonate so powerfully with contemporary audiences — and with Gen Z in particular — framing the backrooms not just as a horror setting but as a cultural symptom of a society in uneasy transition. Both hosts award the film five stars, with Michael calling it the best film he's seen this year.
BGH enters the liminal this week as we review 20-year-old Kane Parson's “Backrooms”, the film that's been slaughtering the competition at the box office this summer. We discuss the liminal horror movement and its ties to Gen Z anxieties, the movie versus the web series, found footage, cameos, trivia and more. Plus, Eli Roth (and Jon's) project Ice Cream Man has a disgusting red band trailer full of murderous children, and Scary Movie has the dumbest (or best?) popcorn bucket you've ever seen. Backrooms is an american science fiction horror film directed by Kane Parsons in his feature-length directorial debut and written by Will Soodik. It is based on Parsons' web series and inspired by the "Backrooms" creepypasta. The film stars Chiwetel Ejiofor, Renate Reinsve, Mark Duplass, Finn Bennett, and Lukita Maxwell. Get lost in the corridors of the most surreal blockbuster...ever? This New Movie Monday, we are reviewing the A24 sensation Backrooms, based on the totemic YouTube series of the same name. Of course, we can't cover Backrooms without a lengthy discussion about this cultural moment in horror cinema, off the heels of Curry Barker's breakout hit Obsession. Griffey, Heath and Sam think they have a good handle on what it all means and make the argument that the film should've been even MORE abstract. We do our best to not get lost in the maze of this counfounding film while praising the performance of Chiwetel Ejiofor, the novel vision of director Kane Parsons and, of course, the most messed up moment in the movie. Synopsis: After a therapist's patient disappears into a dimension beyond reality, she must venture into the unknown to save him. Director: Kane Parsons Starring: Chiwetel Ejiofor, Renate Reinsve and Mark Duplass

Kane Parsons made the Backrooms on YouTube when he was only sixteen. Over 200 million views later, A24 has handed him his feature debut, making him the studio's youngest director ever at 20. But the yellow walls still don't end. This week Laura Gommans and Elliot Bloom go into the maze and come back with an answer that has very little to do with what's actually inside. The Backrooms, they argue, is about us, stuck in our own feedback loop, drifting through vacant spaces. Online, half the internet thinks Kane Parsons couldn't have directed such a hit so young. Mark Duplass, who was on set the whole time, says they're wrong. Chiwetel Ejiofor and Renate Reinsve carry the screen, with James Wan and Osgood Perkins producing. Laura and Elliot ask: what does it take to direct a feature like this at 20 with a crew this experienced? And has A24 found its next pipeline for talent — skipping film school for YouTube horror directors?Get tickets to Backrooms @ LAB111Get tickets to Cine of The Times: The Fast And The Furious @ LAB111 Get tickets to Straight To Video: Nightmare At Noon @ LAB111A film podcast from LAB111 — Amsterdam's arthouse cinema for independent and cult films. Mark Duplass and Katie Aselton's lives are completely intertwined. They've been married for almost 20 years while collaborating on films, raising children and spending as much time together as possible. The two see the same therapist, are nearly constantly touching each other and find it hard to function when one of them is away, a dynamic they describe as codependent. Their codependency is the inspiration for their new film “Magic Hour,” which they co-wrote and which Aselton directs and stars in. For the couple, codependency has added real depth and beauty to their relationship to the point they think the entire concept needs a rebranding. In this episode of “Modern Love,” Duplass and Aselton make their case for codependency, explain what it has enabled in their lives and share what they've had to sacrifice to maintain it. GUEST BIO: WILLIAM ATTICUS PARKER William Atticus Parker is a writer, director, producer, and actor living in Brooklyn, New York. At twenty-one years old, he has already written, directed, and produced two micro-low-budget feature films. Forty Winks, starring Justin Marcel McManus and Susan Sarandon, had a successful festival run and is now streaming on Prime Video, Tubi, Roku, and more. Atrabilious, starring Leon Addison Brown, Mark Boone Junior, Jeffrey Wright, and Whoopi Goldberg, had a successful festival run and will release on Prime Video July 18th, 2025. Forty Winks was filmed in Black & White with Atrabilious drenched in a neon color palette. Despite technical and financial limitations, both films did very well with critics and audiences alike. Forty Winks was filmed in less than a week with a budget of $5,000 when he was 17 and Atrabilious was filmed in a week and a half with a budget of $20,000 when he was 18 – both films were entirely self-funded. The Auction, his upcoming third feature starring Raúl Castillo & Mary-Louise Parker, is set to take his small-scale darkly comedic thrillers to a science-fiction horror spectacle. His acting career began as a seven-frame cameo in Forty Winks. He has now taken on roles in The Gray House (directed by Roland Joffe), Obstacle (short film with Megan Boone) and Their Town (written by Mark Duplass) as well as being set to appear in The Auction. His inspirations include Jordan Peele, Ari Aster, Donald Glover, Spike Lee, Wes Anderson and Joel & Ethan Coen. Creep (2014) is one of the most unsettling found footage horror movies of the 2010s, and in this episode of Cutting Deep into Horror, Henrique Couto and Rachael Redolfi dig into why Patrick Brice's microbudget nightmare still works so well. This episode centers on Creep, the 2014 psychological horror film directed by Patrick Brice and built around the deeply unnerving chemistry between Mark Duplass and Brice himself. The uploaded episode notes describe the discussion as a deep dive into trust, manipulation, ethical boundaries, filmmaking, and emotional vulnerability, with the hosts also teasing One Cut of the Dead for next week. Inside this episodeWhy Creep feels so real and why its awkward, intimate style makes the horror hit harderJosef as a manipulator, using warmth, humor, and vulnerability as weaponsFound footage tension and how the film turns normal social discomfort into dreadFilmmaking ethics and performance, including how the movie comments on directors, subjects, and emotional exploitationHenrique and Rachael's own filmmaking stories, including videography and client-boundary experiences that echo the film's anxietiesThe final act and ending, and why the movie lingers long after it is overThese themes line up closely with the episode chapters and summary embedded in the uploaded transcript file, including sections on wedding videography struggles, first impressions, the shift in atmosphere, the Peachfuzz reveal, manipulation, and filmmaking truths. About the filmCreep premiered at SXSW on March 8, 2014. It was directed by Patrick Brice, with story credit shared by Patrick Brice and Mark Duplass, and it has gone on to become a modern cult favorite in found-footage and psychological horror circles. It stars Mark Duplass as Josef and Patrick Brice as Aaron. Where to watch (U.S., this week)Current U.S. availability appears to include Netflix, Netflix Standard with Ads, Amazon Prime Video, and Amazon Prime Video with Ads for streaming, with Amazon Video and Fandango At Home showing rental and/or purchase options. I'm only listing options that were corroborated across multiple sources. Henrique Couto and Rachael Redolfi go beyond a surface-level review and really get into why Creep feels so disturbing, how Josef weaponizes performance, and why the movie doubles as a nasty little commentary on storytelling itself.
The Backrooms are officially getting the A24 treatment, Masters of the Universe finally dropped a new trailer, and Avengers: Doomsday might be shifting release dates while fans keep waiting on that next big trailer drop. Greg Alba & Coy Jandreau go live to react to the new BACKROOMS trailer from A24, the upcoming horror film directed by Kane Parsons, the viral YouTube creator behind the original Backrooms phenomenon. Starring Chiwetel Ejiofor, Renate Reinsve, Mark Duplass, and Finn Bennett, Backrooms hits theaters May 29, 2026. We're also reacting to the new Masters of the Universe trailer from Amazon MGM Studios and Mattel Studios, with Nicholas Galitzine as He-Man, Jared Leto as Skeletor, Idris Elba as Duncan / Man-At-Arms, Camila Mendes as Teela, Alison Brie as Evil-Lyn, Morena Baccarin as The Sorceress, and more. The Travis Knight-directed live-action He-Man movie arrives June 5, 2026. And of course, we're talking Avengers: Doomsday. Marvel officially still has the film dated for December 18, 2026, but reports and rumors say the studio may be eyeing a move to December 11 as fans continue speculating about when the next major trailer will finally arrive. Plus, with Marvel already teasing the return of the X-Men, Thor, and Steve Rogers, there is a LOT to unpack. Follow Coy Jandreau: Tik Tok: https://www.tiktok.com/@coyjandreau?l... Darren Gaskell (The HD Movie Podcast) And Kat Hughes (The Hollywood News, and return to Flixwatcher to review Darren's choice Creep 2. Mark Duplass reprises his role as everyone's favourite creepy serial killer, now named Aaron (after his previous victim) he lures videographer and YouTuber Sara (Desiree Akhavan) to his remote cabin. Aaron openly admits he is a serial killer and makes an offer to Sara to film him over the next 24 hours. She surprisingly agrees, hoping that this will help her failing YouTube ratings. When she fails to be intimidated by Aaron's behaviour and Peachfuzz mask he finds himself challenged and quite possibly in love. Creep 2 is equally a romantic comedy as much as a horror, where the fun in Creep relied mainly on jumpscares and found footage Creep 2 gets its weirdness from the interaction between Aaron and Sara. Recommendability scores weighed heavily on having seen Creep first and its 80 minute run time helped it to score 3.63 overall. With Creep scoring 4.11 Flixwatcher and guests recommend them both! Today, we are joined by actor and producer Jennifer LaFleur. She was recently in the HULU original film THE DROP and, just this past weekend, the psychological horror film she also co-produced, BIRTHRITE, directed by Ross Partridge. In a blast from the past, Jen and I met in 2011 on the set of a feature film where I was shadowing the producer. It's a gentle reminder of how much the path zigs and zags. During our chat, Jen shares how she turned her Massachusetts hometown into a movie set for her latest film BIRTHRITE, why the Duplass Brothers' "you are the cavalry" philosophy changed her career, and what her ER doctor father taught her about perspective when film locations fall through days before shooting. Whether you're an aspiring filmmaker, working parent, or anyone trying to build something meaningful, Jen's story offers practical wisdom about creating opportunities, leveraging what you already have, and showing up as your best self - because you never know when a brief encounter will change your life years later. BIRTHRITE is playing in limited theaters in Los Angeles now!
