[5:05] What three tests does Spencer recommend everybody get, as we head into the new year? [6:25] If you do feel resistance from your family doctor, then maybe it’s best to approach a naturopathic doctor for these tests. [8:15] Test number one: Get a C-Reactive Protein test done. [10:00] Test number two: A Homocysteine test. [12:35] Test number three: Your ferritin levels. [13:30] Spencer had a hard time picking the top three tests. You need like 20! [14:05] It’s important for women to check their ferritin levels. They are typically too low in iron. [14:40] When men have too much iron in their body, we rust! [17:10] Supplementation should be used to augment, not to replace. [19:05] What is the benefit of getting a DNA test? [20:55] Spencer always asks for a DNA test whenever a new client begins work with him. [23:10] You just don’t know what you don’t know. The biggest questions you have to ask yourself are these: Who is your ideal avatar, and how are you different from everyone else in your industry?   Key Takeaways: [1:55] Dai just finished wrapping up and attending the Canfitpro event. How’d it go? [3:55] Dai talked about the marketing and business aspects to personal training. Personal trainers just aren’t educated in this area! [4:30] Nutritionists are also finding the same problems. [6:10] You have to be online and easily accessible in this day and age. [8:45] Who is your avatar? [9:05] If you’re having trouble producing content, it means you don’t know who you want to ideally work with. [10:20] How do you find the right tribe? [11:15] Dai tries to either inspire, educate, or motivate, when he writes content for his tribe. [12:25] So many people write content to fulfill their own needs, but that doesn’t create engagement. [15:35] In a crowded conference room like Canfitpro, how many out of a 100 have an avatar already established? [19:55] Once you become an expert in your industry for your target audience, you don’t need hundreds of clients! [21:20] Offering group coaching sessions is making more sense to Dai these days. There’s nothing wrong with spending time with your family, and eating food! Just be a little bit mindful that this is a time to relax, and that there’s nothing wrong with that. Don’t let your daily routines slip by as you become busy with family obligations.   Key Takeaways: [1:30] We tend to get set back, when we take a vacation for too long. [2:45] Americans tend to gain between 3-7 pounds during the holidays. [3:45] It’s tricky not gaining the pounds, because we want to let loose and spend time with friends/family. [4:25] It’s okay to let loose, but how do we do it respectfully, where our bodies don’t end up suffering? [6:00] Grab a smaller plate. [6:25] Place the dessert beside you, so you know you need to not overstuff yourself on the main course. [6:55] Eat with chopsticks…? [8:15] Our lack of exercise during winter months probably plays more of a factor than ‘bad food’. [10:10] Fast for 17 hours! [10:35] Drink more water and fill your plate with green vegetables! 009: How to Begin a Healthy and Addiction-Free Lifestyle

Play Episode Listen Later Nov 1, 2016 23:15

Dai starts the conversation off by talking about why he decided to create an addiction-free lifestyle for himself, back in 2010. This is a topic he has spoken quite a bit about in the last 6 months, and it can be a heavy topic for most. We use our addictions to escape or to help us stop feeling a certain pain, but that can quickly get out of control if you’re not careful. For example, Dai was a known fitness expert in his community, yet he was drinking and getting blackout drunk almost everyday. The good news is that we have the power to take control of our lives and to stop hurting ourselves.   Key Takeaways: [1:50] Dai is in partnership with both Saint Jude Retreat and Baldwin Research Institute, on designing an addiction-free life. Back in 2010, Dai made a personal choice to stop drinking alcohol. [2:25] Dai has been using the freedom model. He quickly recites what the freedom model is. [3:25] Dai does not believe that alcoholism or drug addiction is a disease. He understands there are some underlying issues there, but to label it a ‘disease,’ is a bit too far. [4:00] Spencer believes people are affected by addiction on multiple levels, and each person needs a custom approach. [7:00] It takes a community to support each other. [7:30] Dai was making the choice everyday to drink, and it became a debilitating habit. [8:30] Despite being known as a fitness personality, Dai would often get blacked out drunk. [9:00] Dai doesn’t believe people who have addiction problems are powerless. There’s no science to back this up! You will always have a choice. [11:00] One in five North Americans suffers from some form of mental illness. [12:55] There’s a good chance that your friends are suffering the same way you are, so it’s just a matter of creating a dialogue between everyone, to help support each other. [13:20] If you’re going to begin to love yourself, you first need to really understand yourself. [14:45] When Adam discovered indoor climbing, he also discovered a new way to heal himself. [17:20] How did exercise help change Dai’s brain? [20:20] Do you disagree? The men want to hear your thoughts! Feel free  to reach out to them. [21:00] So, what’s next, to creating a healthy and addiction-free lifestyle?   Mentioned in This Episode: Saint Jude Retreat Baldwin Research Institute Grain Brain, by David Perlmutter   Connect With the Guys Here: Instagram: @22forlifepodcast #22forlife   Dai Website   Adam Website   Spencer Website

Every man has had an argument with their loved one, and sometimes they wish they could turn back time, and not say those hurtful words to their partner. But, after a big fight, how do you find the reset button, and go back to how things were? Well, according to author Gary Chapman, there are five types of love languages that really show your partner that you love and respect them.   Key Takeaways: [1:40] The more Adam talks about love, the more he feels the healing power of it. [1:55] What do Dai and Spencer feel when they talk about love? [4:55] Dai has been with his wife for almost 16 years. [8:10] When an argument elevates, we tend to say things that are irrational and hurtful to our partner. [9:00] Sometimes Dai wishes there was a reset button and he could take back the words he said. [9:35] Dai talks about the five love languages. [15:50] People can tell when you’re just putting on a front. On this week's episode, Dai, Adam and Spencer dive into food philosophy and why food plays such a critical role in our health and how we are feeling. Why do you eat what you eat? That's today's question. Everything we put into our bodies has an impact. However, we don't have to revolutionize our eating habits within a day either. You can start a quick 7-day challenge or even introduce new foods into your diet slowly. If your mouth was a fuel tank, what kind of fuel would you put in you to help the machine run efficiently?    Key Takeaways: [1:15] Let's talk about food! [1:55] Why are you eating the foods that you're eating? [2:35] Spencer fuels his body for sports. [3:30] A healthy relationship with food has to be a conscious decision. [5:05] Food is an everyday thing, which means we need to get back to making smart choices about food. [6:55] How do we break our unhealthy relationships with food? [7:35] Track what you're eating!! [8:40] Clean out your kitchen. [9:20] How can hemp seeds help you? [12:15] Our mouth is really our fuel tank — so what are you going to put into your car? [12:50] What is being marketed as the healthy option is often not even close to being healthy. [13:25] Don't be afraid to do just a 7-day challenge. [14:45] Too busy to track what you eat? Take a photo of it instead. [16:50] Are you a vegan? A vegetarian? At the end of the day, it's not about the title, it's about feeling good. [18:30] Whatever we put into our bodies has an impact, whether good or bad. [19:25] Dai talks about what he learned at the CHFA conference. [21:30] There's no reason why we have to blindly feed our families in this technology age.    Mentioned in This Episode: Myfitnesspal.com The Canadian Health Food Association   Connect With the Guys Here: Instagram: @22forlifepodcast #22forlife   Dai Website   Adam Website   Spencer Website
