Today I'm talking about what Brene Brown found in her research as she was interviewing people was that the people that she interviewed who most exhibited Wholehearted living weren't anxiety free or even anxiety - averse; they were anxiety aware. They were committed to a way of living where anxiety was a reality but not a lifestyle and they did this by cultivating calm and stillness in their lives and making these practices their norm. What are your earliest memories of creativity? What did you love to do that was creative when you were little? What did you love to play? And when did you start to notice a shift in comparing yourself to others? When did it start to change so that you were more worried about conforming or competing or belonging or being better than the other kids around you? As artists, it's even more important to have people in our lives that see us - in our big-ness and our small-ness...people who can encourage us and know who we really are - in our fullest potential - even in the moments when we are struggling and we can't see it ourselves.
Today we are talking about letting go of our need for approval from others or from ourselves and just doing the work! Sign up for the free week of workshops this week as part of Songtober: www.jennyrebecca.online/songtober

Seth Godin wrote “Art is the work we do where there is no right answer - and yet the journey is worth the effort.” It may seem like there is a right answer, as you are pursuing your creative dreams, but the beautiful thing about art is that those rules are also meant to be broken, and that is what the world really wants and celebrates ...art that changes us. A lot of people wait for inspiration to come before they start working. Some people wait their whole lives for this. I just want to remind you that your work is too important to be left to how you feel today. Sign up for Songtober Songwriting Challenge: www.jennyrebecca.online/songtober
One of the ways we tend to try to avoid criticism is to sound like everyone else. Anytime we do that, for long periods of time, we are actually hiding and not trusting our own voices to come through in whatever we are creating. Today's episode is about finding your own authenticity and feeling free to just be you, express yourself, sound like yourself and not like anyone else. Today I'm sharing another little clip from the Artists Rising Co. Mastermind, which is essentially group coaching that I do every Sunday night with a very special group of creatives. Today's clip is part of a teaching about the power of our thoughts and creating thoughts, which then lead to emotions, and how that is the very most important thing. Today I'm sharing a clip from the Artists Rising Co Mastermind where Sarah is sharing about how overwhelmed she feels sometimes when she looks at certain artists who seem like they are able to do everything on their own and she realized she's been blaming the fact that she felt alone or didn't have the right people around her had been holding her back from creating. We talk about some possible thoughts and emotions she could create so that she can take full responsibility for her own creative journey and progress.
Telling some stories today about how opportunities came about in my creative life often in ways I didn't expect. We are wise to not have too many expectations about how everything needs to come about, but just stay open to delight and trust that are dreams are running to meet us any way they can! "The most self-centered, egotistical, narcissistic thing that you could do as a songwriter or as an artist is to stay alone, in your room, and never share it (your art) with anybody else. But once you share it...that connection is what cultivates culture. It what causes people to exchange ideas with people they would never come across in life.." -Nate Bernardini It was such a pleasure interviewing singer-songwriter Nate Bernardini for today's episode! A little clip from one of my Mastermind Coaching sessions: The most important component in the whole process of transformation is to look at the landscape of our lives and just BE there for ourselves and cultivate that love within ourselves so that from that place, the only option is to RISE. There are four main stages to accomplishing any goal: 1. Learning 2. Implementing 3. Refining and 4. Maintaining...Most people never get to the refining stage...why? Because it is UNCOMFORTABLE. It requires us to embrace our imperfection and ask ourselves why something isn't working or getting us the results we want. When we can learn to separate our IDENTITIES from our ART, and COMMIT to refining until we accomplish what we've set out to do, we can accomplish anything.
Our emotions are a map. Our sadness, our anger, our loneliness, our fears...all of these feelings can actually be direct us into our healing and creativity can be our guide. When was the last time that you properly fed her the things that she LOVES!!! Somewhere along the way, we grow up. And are just so busy feeding ourselves "shoulds", and "ought to"s and ways we need to improve ourselves but we so easily lose touch with delight, and one of the most important parts of being an artist is to stop forcing yourself all the time to get better! The MOST important part of being an artist? Is the BEING...and we cannot have the energy to BE without the nutrients of things we LOVE. So we need to feed and nourish ourselves with what we love...every day.
Whether you are publicly or privately pursuing art, I do believe that we are all artists, we are all creative. And we are born that way. I also believe that there is no end to the amount of creativity, and the amount of LOVE, we can experience in our day to day lives. In today's episode I'm sharing some examples of how this can look and I hope it inspires you! Creative disciplines and spiritual disciplines lead us to the other...creativity leads me to sacred ground and spirituality invites me to connect with the life force of creativity and brings out all my colors! BOTH lead us to openheartedness...aliveness...boldness...and faith. May you experience a more alive and openhearted life as you listen and as you go through your day!
The truth about sustaining an artistic career or a creative life, is that the less seriously we take ourselves, the more serious work we will probably be able to bring forth. Our creative lives, just like marriage or committed relationships, need romance and playfulness and adventure!
Mini-episode about creativity as therapy...but not because we need to be fixed. Creativity is a therapeutic tool that can help us unravel and uncover our own authentic expressions, our own authentic voices. I'm trying out a little experiment for the next few months with the podcast and I'd love to have your feedback! I'm going to try putting out a new episode every day - some will just be mini- episodes (like today) but I'd love to know what you think - what do you like? What would you like more of? More interviews? More teachings? Let me know! mail@jennyrebecca.com or dm me on instagram @artistsrisingco or @iamjennyrebecca!
