This sermon cuts deeply in order to probe carefully. It is Spurgeon in typically and painfully sober mode. The sermon puts to each hearer the question which Christ asked of his disciples at a season of mass desertion: “Will you also go away?” Searching deeply into our hearts, Spurgeon first asks why Christ asked this question of his twelve disciples, looking at the defections which were taking place. Then he takes the question itself, and this is perhaps the most painful element of the sermon, as Spurgeon points out the contagion of desertion, and how it would cut through the twelve themselves, and the importance of a thoughtful and voluntary attachment to Christ himself. After the wound, the balm: our preacher then considers the three elements of Peter's answer, an answer which we ourselves should give to our divine Leader. So he concludes with the heartfelt plea, “By thy faithfulness, O Lord, keep us faithful!” Is Spurgeon being harsh or hard? Is he trying to unsettle the faithful? Is he deliberately assaulting faith? No, here is a true-hearted minister in difficult times bringing needful warnings to the souls of his congregation, not carelessly undermining but deliberately probing to ensure that we have a good foundation. Gospel Reading: Matthew 16:13-19At that time, when Jesus came into the district of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, "Who do men say that the Son of man is?" And they said, "Some say John the Baptist, others say Elijah, and others Jeremiah or one of the prophets." He said to them, "But who do you say that I am?" Simon Peter replied, "You are the Christ, the Son of the living God." And Jesus answered him, "Blessed are you, Simon Bar Jona! For flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but my Father who is in heaven. And I tell you, you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of Hades shall not prevail against it. I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven, and whatever you bind on earth shall be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven."
Business decisions keeping you up at night? It's time to face them head-on. Whether it's hiring, firing, selling, staying put, or changing direction entirely, we all reach those moments where we know we have to make the call, but we can't help putting it off. Drawing from her recent mentoring sessions where she's seen the same pattern repeatedly, Jade breaks down why these decisions drain our energy, steal our focus, and keep us completely stuck. What Jade speaks about: • Why the answer is usually already there (and why we ignore it) • How to dig deep and trust your instincts when logic isn't enough • Why finding your 'why' is crucial to the decision making process • The importance of building a trusted network of people who've been there before • When putting yourself first isn't selfish - it's necessary for your business • Why businesses naturally evolve, and how that's exactly how it should be "Sometimes you have to be strong enough to say 'things as they are aren't making me happy anymore' and choose yourself. Because remember why you started building something in the first place? It was for YOU." Whether you're facing team changes, business pivots, or major strategic decisions, this episode offers the honest guidance you need to stop procrastinating and start moving forward. No hype, no fluff - just the reality of making tough calls when everything feels uncertain.

Fear lies at the heart of resistance to organizational change. This revealing conversation explores how leaders can navigate the complex emotional landscape that emerges when teams face significant transitions. What makes change feel so threatening to many people? We unpack the psychology behind those fight-flight-freeze-appease responses that emerge during times of uncertainty. Rather than dismissing these reactions, effective leaders acknowledge them while maintaining forward momentum – embracing the wisdom of "yes, it's scary, and we're going to do it anyway."The discussion reveals a critical insight: creating safety during change doesn't mean eliminating discomfort. Instead, it requires validating emotional responses while preventing teams from wallowing in fear. As Tammy notes, "If you're walking through hell, keep walking" – because standing still only prolongs the pain.We challenge the perfectionism that paralyzes many organizations, revealing how our educational conditioning makes us seek singular "right answers" when multiple effective solutions often exist. By reframing change as an iterative process of trying, learning, and adjusting, leaders free their teams from the paralysis of perfectionism. The most powerful tool in a leader's arsenal? Reminding teams of their past successes. By highlighting how they've successfully navigated previous challenges, you build collective confidence for the journey ahead. While the path forward may not be perfectly clear, your shared history of overcoming obstacles creates the psychological safety needed to move forward together.Ready to transform how your organization approaches change? Listen now and discover practical strategies for creating psychological safety that drives meaningful transformation rather than resistance.

If you've ever found yourself in a situation where you do a lot of research and try to get the answer but can never seem to find it, this episode is for you! As a child, we are taught to trust our paths and learn by failing. We understand how to move through life by doing crazy stuff. As we age, we will meet people who want to keep an eye on our future and will help us grow on how most people are going. What happens is, that instead of being invited to discover our path and giving us space to do so, we are asked to do what society tells us is the right thing to do. We are taught to shift our desire with collective wisdom and understanding. Because of this, instead of trusting ourselves, we follow what other people would say is good for us. We start to look for an internal answer. Listen as you learn more what are the consequences of the need for the right answer, and what can we do about it. Enjoy the show!
Don't Fear The Right Answer for the Wrong Direction Karel Cast 24-133 One of the key campaign questions, according to a survey I got over the weekend, many believe the country is headed in the wrong direction. But what "direction" do they mean? Do they mean towards diversity, equity, inclusion, women's rights, climate change and more. Or do they mean it's becoming too accepting, too liberal, too...nice? What is the Wrong direction? Because in the future, people will look back and say the wrong direction was smart people letting the less educated do things just because they think it's either too hard to change them or there's money in what's going on so it can never change. That's stupid. And that's America and much of the world. We KNOW what's best, but refuse to demand it. Why? Because most people today are poorly educated about civics, about science, art, literature...they're consumers and only know as much as they need to know to be such. We're headed in the exact direction the wealthy want us to be; towards mass annihilation while they are safely ensconced in mini-paradises of our creation. CA bans all plastic bags and causes controversy. It's exactly the point. We KNOW plastic bags are terrible. But....stupid is as stupid does. I get it--when learning a language, we want to pronounce phrases in a way that sounds natural and feels natural. However, what feels and sounds natural to us is influenced by our first language. So sometimes, even if we say something right, we may not fully understand why it's right. With that in mind, I think we need to re-evaluate the VALUE we put on correct sounds and more on understanding what makes them sound so naturalWelcome to Wake Up American, where Monday through Friday, we spend a couple minutes on a challenging aspect of American English pronunciation and walk through examples to help you achieve a more natural sound the next time you speak in American English at work, at home, or out and about town.#wakeupamerican #fluentamerican #americanenglishSupport the Show.

D:U:LIVE is coming in June! My first live shows since 2013.... London / Bristol / Manchester - all tickets: scubaoficial.io/liveWe've been covering techno quite a lot on the show recently, but mostly from a legacy perspective. This week we are joined with one of the last few years' breakdown names on the production side.Based in Krakow, Poland, Karol Mozgawa aka Deas emerged largely via the Audio River festival, a truly world class event which is now its seventeenth year. Releases on CLR, Dynamic Reflection, Planet Rhythm, Materia and others have cemented his name in the DJ sets of the biggest and best techno jocks on the circuit.Karol is a proper studio guy, with a room full of kit in his house outside Krakow, so we get into the weeds a bit with audio interfaces and outboard gear in this conversation. But we also delve into more familiar territory too, addressing the state of the current scene, the good points and bad, as well as some scene-specific stuff in Poland too. This is a good one, you're gonna enjoy it!If you're into what we're doing here on the pod then you can support the show on Patreon! Fund conversations that matter: donate.accessmore.comDuring today's episode on Back Porch Theology, we're talking about intellectual humility, which could be loosely described as giving away the need to always have the right answer. I spent way too many years afraid that someone would look under the hood of my life and discover everything I was ashamed of. During those years that I was consumed with shame, I used what modest intellect I have as a deflector shield. And posing behind my need to be perceived as always having the right answer robbed so much of my peace as a young Bible teacher. I was scared that making a public mistake regarding the WORD OF GOD would brand me as a fraudulent heretic forever. Here's the deal y'all, as Christ-followers of course it behooves us to imitate those ancient Bereans from the book of Acts, who received the word with all eagerness, examining the Scriptures daily to see if these things were so. However, it also behooves us to remember that when you filter the divinely inspired and inscripturated Word of God through the finite minds of men and women, it's bound to be distorted at some level. Now please hear me, I'm not at all saying we have a license to be irresponsible – anything but – however, as a sixty-year-old, mistake-prone Bible teacher I've learned that intellect without humility equals insufferable arrogance, which is the antithesis of Christoformity – of having a Jesus-shaped life! Speaking of Jesus-shaped living and intellectual humility, if you haven't already please check out our upcoming Kerygma Summit April 25-27, here in Franklin, TN. It's a curated, 3-day intensive – basically a Bible study boot camp saturated with belly laughs – where a whole bunch of us from all over gather together and learn from a dream team of seminary professors, theologians, and ministry leaders so that we can better understand, emulate and communicate God's Word. I don't have time to tell you everyone who's on the teaching team for this third Kerygma Summit but y'all it is a veritable Who's-Who of modern-day theological heroes and heroines, among them they've published something like 300 books, Bible studies, and commentaries. Several of them have even served on translation teams – which means they've translated the original Hebrew, Greek, and Aramaic into English - for specific versions of the Bible, including the NIV and ESV, isn't that cool? But the coolest thing about these brilliant saints is that they love putting theological cookies on the lower shelf for people like us so that we can lean more fully into Jesus as a result. Getting to hang out with them, meet new friends from all over the world who are passionate about God and His Word, and be led in worship by Brooke Ligertwood – yep, Brooke's coming back this year and will be leading worship throughout the event - is going to be like drinking from a firehose of wisdom and grace! Space is limited and over half-full already, so again please check out the details at KerygmaSummit.com and don't dawdle if you're thinking about coming because we don't want it to fill up without you. In the meantime, go ahead and grab a caffeinated beverage and your Bible – unless you're practicing the hand jive, of course – and come hang out on the porch with Alli, Dr. Howard, and me.
