Talk about a tonal shift! This third entry into the Thor franchise is not even in the same universe as the previous two films. It's bright, with an epic soundtrack, and Chris Hemsworth being used to great effect for his comedic timing! What do you think of this shift for Thor? TRACKLIST: 4:51 - Geek of the Week - Jasmin: G20 (Prime, 2025); Mark: Death of a Unicorn (2025) 12:41 - Film summary and fun facts 25:16 - Thor: Ragnarok (2017) Review You can follow us on X, Facebook and Instagram or if you would like to support us you can donate to our KoFi.
It's getting real! We're getting closer and closer to the end of our big guns run here with the film that breaks up the family. By the way, whose side are you on? Let us know if you're Team Cap (anti-accords) or Team Stark (pro hero registration). Captain America: Civil War feels even more appropriate in this 2025 political climate. TRACKLIST: 2:04 - Geek of the Week - Jasmin: Black Panther (2018); Mark: Absolute Green Lantern #1 9:26 - Film summary and fun facts 23:10 - Captain America: Civil War (2016) review You can follow us on X, Facebook and Instagram or if you would like to support us you can donate to our KoFi.
And we're rolling right along here to tackle our second big team-up picture! Other than the over-use of CGI, we've got yet another film where the Geeks feel like their opinions changed a bit from first watch! TRACKLIST: 1:41 - Geek of the Week - Jasmin: Venom (2018); Mark: PCP Movie Night - Double Dragon 13:50 - Film summary and fun facts 22:19 - Avengers: Age of Ultron review You can follow us on X, Facebook and Instagram or if you would like to support us you can donate to our KoFi.
A longer episode, but we touch on just how connected season 1 of AOS is to Winter Soldier. Really great to see both arms of the MCU speaking the same language! It was Jasmin's first time to watch and of the episodes. But you'll have to listen in if you want to see whether or not the Geeks opinions on this film have changed in 11 years! TRACKLIST: 1:10 - Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Season 1 Tie In to Captain America: The Winter Soldier 34:49 - Film summary and fun facts 44:38 - Captain America: The Winter Soldier (2014) review You can follow us on X, Facebook and Instagram or if you would like to support us you can donate to our KoFi.
OK, this is getting troublesome. While this movie is still not great, it wasn't as bad as we remembered. Why does this keep happening to the Geeks? Are we caught in some kind of alternate reality as we rewatch the big guns of the MCU? TRACKLIST: 1:43 - Geek of the Week - Mark: Absolute Flash; Jasmin: Mass Effect 3 (12 year anniversary of 3rd game) 10:54 - Film summary and fun facts 22:32 - Thor: The Dark World review You can follow us on X, Facebook and Instagram or if you would like to support us you can donate to our KoFi.
Another one... Yet another film that wasn't as bad as when we saw it in 2013! What is happening to the Geeks??? What about you? Has your opinion changed on any of the films we've been covering in our GU Avengers Initiative? TRACKLIST: 2:40 - Geek of the Week - Jasmin: Leverage (2008); Mark: Last Breath (2025) 13:51 - Film summary and fun facts 24:14 - Iron Man 3 review You can follow us on X, Facebook and Instagram or if you would like to support us you can donate to our KoFi.
And we've finally made it to our first big team up!! This is the 6th film in the MCU, 5 years after the debut of Iron Man. Four solo films and a sequel has brought us to The Avengers! What's your guess -- Do you think the Geeks enjoyed this film just as much 12 years later? TRACKLIST: 1:10 - Geek of the week - Jasmin: Cross (Prime); Mark: Has officially joined Team Android! And also he watched The Substance (2024) 26:06 - Film summary and fun facts 38:20 - The Avengers (2012) review You can follow us on X, Facebook and Instagram or if you would like to support us you can donate to our KoFi.
Let's take a trip back in time as we get our introduction to the guy who won the hearts of a nation. But first, we have a question for you, listener... Would you consider this an adventure film or a superhero film? TRACKLIST: 3:28 - MCU Trivia (so far) 18:45 - Film summary and fun facts 25:01 - Captain America: The First Avenger review You can follow us on X, Facebook and Instagram or if you would like to support us you can donate to our KoFi.
Another! Yep, keeping our theme going, here we are taking a look at our first introduction to "aliens" in the MCU! Is this film as weird as we remembered it from 2011? TRACKLIST: 2:33 - Geek of the Week: Jasmin - Cold Case: Who Killed JonBenét Ramsey (Netflix); Mark - Unforgotten Season 6 (iTV) 13:08 - film summary and fun facts 29:43 - Thor (2011) review You can follow us on X, Facebook and Instagram or if you would like to support us you can donate to our KoFi.
And we're moving right along with our BIG GUNS series as we make our way (eventually) to Captain America: Brave New World! The second film from our anchor in this MCU, Mr. Tony Stark. With Iron Man 2, this film didn't do much to wow us back then and the same holds true now. We feel like this is just a filler film to move us deeper into the MCU. But what do YOU think? TRACKLIST: 5:47 - Geek of the Week - Jasmin: American Manhunt: OJ Simpson; Mark: Big Little Lies, season 1 20:38 - Film summary and fun facts 31:37 - Iron Man 2 (2010) review You can follow us on X, Facebook and Instagram or if you would like to support us you can donate to our KoFi.
Moving right along into the forgotten feature of the MCU, The Incredible Hulk! This "requel" (both a reboot and a sequel) was miles better than its predecessor from 2003, so how come it remains one of the poorest performing films of the MCU? TRACKLIST: 1:55 - Geek of the Week: Jasmin - Backlight (Lezhin); Mark - The Leftovers 16:14 - Film summary and fun facts 29:27 - The Incredible Hulk (2008) review You can follow us on X, Facebook and Instagram or if you would like to support us you can donate to our KoFi.

We are BACK with our annual holiday special! Yes, that's right. In 2020, we decided we were going to make our Scott Pilgrim reviews a Christmas tradition. So here we are, with vol 5 in the series, Scott Pilgrim: Scott Pilgrim vs The Universe. And we are once again joined by our PCP Bad Batch brother in arms, Rockin' Robbie Billups! Tracklist: 0:29 - Intro with Rockin' Robbie of Pop Culture Philosophers! 10:01 - A small tribute to our friend Jennifer, of Comic Books Will Break Your Heart, who recently lost her battle with cancer 18:44 - Intro to Scott Pilgrim vol 5 characters 20:51 - Summary of vol 5 and fun facts 25:50 - How did we read it - Jasmin was digital, Mark and Robbie were hard cover -- everyone read it in color 29:03 - Overall thoughts on vol 5 and thoughts on artwork and progression from vol 1 42:55 - Themes in this volume? 1:04:03 - Final thoughts on Scott Pilgrim Vol 5 You can follow us on X, Facebook and Instagram or if you would like to support us you can donate to our KoFi.
And thus concludes our 2024 season of "normal" Geeks Unleashed episodes! What a fun, witchy run we've had the past several weeks. We wrap it all up with a surprise favorite from recent TV as we cover the entire Agatha All Along series. With this direct sequel to WandaVision and notes from the fallout of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, where does this latest Marvel Television series leave us? TRACKLIST: 2:43 - Geek of the Week - Jasmin: Natsume's Book of Friends; Mark - Wicked (2024) 17:55 - Series summary and fun facts 29:54 - Agatha All Along (2024) series review You can follow us on X, Facebook and Instagram or if you would like to support us you can donate to our KoFi.
Back to the witches as wizards as we follow up WandaVision with what feels like a direct sequel. Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is truly a visual treat as we traverse through all kinds of different universes! But what did the geeks think of the film? Give us a listen to find out! TRACKLIST: 1:17 - Geek of the Week: Mark - Silo Season 2; Jasmin - Yakuza Fiance (2024 Crunchyroll) 11:24 - Film summary and fun facts 22:51 - Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness review You can follow us on X, Facebook and Instagram or if you would like to support us you can donate to our KoFi.
We're keeping it witchy/wizardy as we move from Doctor Strange to WandaVision! Do you remember how talked about this series was when it dropped in 2021? Nerds were suffering from a content drought due to a global pandemic, and this was the first piece of MCU content we'd received in over a year! But how does it hold up now that we've had three years of other Marvel stories? You've got to listen to find out what the Geeks think! TRACKLIST: 1:17 - Geek of the Week: Mark - Strange Darling (2023); Jasmin - To The Stars and Back (Webtoon) 12:08 - Series summary and fun facts 27:27 - WandaVision (2021) series review You can follow us on X, Facebook and Instagram or if you would like to support us you can donate to our KoFi.
Now it's time to kick off our MCU magic arc! We're starting with Doctor Strange, or as Kaecilius calls him, Mr. Doctor. Have our feelings on this film changed since we first saw it in 2016? You've got to listen to find out! TRACKLIST: 1:19 - Catching up on life! 9:58 - Geek of the Week - Mark: Fresh (2022); Jasmin: The Mafia Nanny (Webtoon) 16:06 - Film fun facts and summary 28:30 - Doctor Strange (2016) Review You can follow us on X, Facebook and Instagram or if you would like to support us you can donate to our KoFi.
And we're finally (maybe??) closing out our Skrulls arc! We wrap it up with The Marvels! The fanbros really did what they could to kill our chances of seeing these three together on screen again. But your Geeks didn't think the hate this film received was at all warranted. What did you think when you saw it? TRACKLIST: 1:20 - Geek of the Week - Jasmin: Hell's Paradise (2023); Mark - Detective Comics All In #1090, Absolute Wonder Woman 13:39 - Film summary and fun facts 22:59 - The Marvels (2023) review You can follow us on X, Facebook and Instagram or if you would like to support us you can donate to our KoFi.
In keeping with our Captain Marvel/Skrulls theme, we're sneaking this Secret Invasion review before we cover the final film in this series (so far)! What did you think about this series and how it fits into the MCU? TRACKLIST: 1:17 - Geek of the Week - Jasmin: Officer Black Belt (Netflix 2024); Mark - Sweet Pea (Sky/Starz) 14:10 - Series summary and fun facts 22:27 - Secret Invasion series review You can follow us on X, Facebook and Instagram or if you would like to support us you can donate to our KoFi.
Staying with our previous episode, we've come now to cover Carol Danvers' biggest fan: Kamala Khan! Yes, we're tackling Ms. Marvel from 2022 -- and boy oh boy are we glad we waited to cover this one. One of the Geeks did a complete 180 in their opinion from the first time they watched the series two years ago. Can you guess who changed their mind? TRACKLIST: 1:27 - Geek of the Week - Jasmin: Romantic Killer (Netflix); Mark: Absolute Batman #1 16:54 - Series summary and fun facts 30:01 - Ms. Marvel season 1 review You can follow us on X, Facebook and Instagram or if you would like to support us you can donate to our KoFi.
It's time to jump into our Skrulls MCU run! We kick it off with Captain Marvel -- which we both agreed that this film got a bunch of hate it absolutely did NOT deserve. Before we get into the film review, the Geeks both talked about falling down the true crime rabbit hole on Netflix. So let's go higher, further, faster by giving this episode a listen! TRACKLIST: 1:24 - Geek of the Week: Jasmin - American Murder: Laci Peterson (2024, Netflix); Mark - Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story (2024, Netflix) 15:45 - Film summary and fun facts 29:39 - Captain Marvel (2019) review You can follow us on X, Facebook and Instagram or if you would like to support us you can donate to our KoFi.
After an extended hiatus, your Geeks have returned!! Where were we? Totally unbeknownst to us, we both went on cruises! Mark went to France and Jasmin, like the characters in Sweet Tooth, made her way up to Alaska! Don't worry, she didn't see any Hybrids, nor does she have The Sick. ;) But we are back to wrap up this series that we began covering back in 2021! We first dove into the world of Sweet Tooth with the first volume of the original graphic novel by Jeff Lemire. Check out episode 53 if you need a refresher. Then we talked about season 1 in episode 54 and season 2 in episode 131. So how does the series we've been following for the past three years end, and were we satisfied? You'll have to listen to find out! TRACKLIST: 2:11 - What we've been up to over our podcast break! 12:04 - Geek of the Week: Jasmin - Twilight Out of Focus (2024 Crunchyroll); Mark - Uglies (2024 Netflix) 21:14 - Sweet Tooth Season 3 (final season) review You can follow us on X, Facebook and Instagram or if you would like to support us you can donate to our KoFi.
We started our adventure into this branch of Marvel allllllllllll the way back in March of this year! And here we are now, 21 episodes later! Thank you so much for taking this ride with us. This block has been in the works for nearly two years over here at Geeks Unleashed, and it's a little bittersweet that it's come to a close. Our "Summer of X" has lasted almost half the year and we couldn't be more thrilled to truly end on a bang with the BILLION DOLLAR film, Deadpool & Wolverine. Not only did we take it back to Generation X, we also threw some Daredevil: Director's Cut and Elektra in for good measure. From Patrick Stewart to James McAvoy and every character in between, we've had a blast. Now here's the first film of 2024 that BOTH Geeks saw in theaters! TRACKLIST: 1:20 - Geek of the Week: Jasmin - Revenger (2023, Crunchyroll); Mark - Twisters (2024) 9:20 - A small 2024 podcast recap! 12:09 - Film summary and fun facts 24:50 - Deadpool & Wolverine (2024) review 1:24:57 - Mark and Jasmin have an announcement! You can follow us on X, Facebook and Instagram or if you would like to support us you can donate to our KoFi.
Here we are, nearing the end of the world we've been talking about for most of 2024! In this conversation episode, we're joined by the Geeks Unleashed OG Stephen Fox and our good friend and fellow Bad Batch buddy, Phable from One Collection Down! We're talking all things X-Men -- from the books that started it all to the the 1992 cartoon to our favorite (and least favorite) films in the franchise. Join us! TRACKLIST: 2:36 - Were we fans of the comics before the 2000 X-Men film 8:06 - Did any of these films make you want to go back and pick up comics? 14:58 - Best translation of characters from comic to screen 18:10 - Which character was poorly translated 24:10 - Favorite film in the whole franchise 29:46 - Most underrated film in the franchise 35:27 - Worst film in the franchise (no, we didn't all have the same answer) 42:19 - What kind of impact did the 2000 film have on the superhero genre 50:21 - Parallels between X-Men and real world events 57:14 - Cultural impact of X-Men in other forms of Pop Culture 1:01:00 - X-Men reads we recommend 1:11:47 - Final thoughts on the whole franchise You can follow us on X, Facebook and Instagram or if you would like to support us you can donate to our KoFi.

To completely wrap up our stint with our favorite adamantium clad anti-hero, we read Wolverine Origin (2001). This mini series was a nice change of pace from the other X-Men collections we've read during our Summer of X series. Both Geeks really enjoyed going all the way back to the late 1800s to learn more about James Howlett. TRACKLIST: 1:55 - Characters - First Appearances 3:07 - Summary and How We Read it 9:56 - Thoughts on the artwork 15:27 - Thoughts on the story/structure, and accessibility 24:41 - Legacy of this Mini Series and Themes You can follow us on X, Facebook and Instagram or if you would like to support us you can donate to our KoFi.

We've finished all the team driven films and are embarking on the individual characters now. We're kicking it off with the first of the Wolverine trilogy. Jasmin has seen this film more times than she can count, but this is only Mark's second viewing. Will this have any bearing on the Geek's rating? TRACKLIST: 1:16 - Geek of the Week: Jasmin - A Condition Called Love (Crunchyroll); Mark - House of X (Marvel Comics) 12:19 - Film summary and fun facts 26:50 - X-Men Origins: Wolverine (2009) Review You can follow us on X, Facebook and Instagram or if you would like to support us you can donate to our KoFi.
Between reshoots, a merger, and COVID, how much sympathy are the Geeks willing to give to the circumstances surrounding this film? Can The New Mutants surprise us in spite of its doomed production? TRACKLIST: 1:45 - Geek of the Week: Mark - Dark Matter (AppleTV); Jasmin - Windbreaker (Crunchyroll) 17:15 - Film summary and fun facts 25:30 - The New Mutants (2020) Review You can follow us on X, Facebook and Instagram or if you would like to support us you can donate to our KoFi.
Call it a casualty of the merger if you'd like, but Dark Phoenix is the second to last film in this age of X-Men as lead by Fox. We definitely dig into some of the behind the scenes drama with this one, but where does it fall on our ranking of X-films so far? You've got to tune in to find out! TRACKLIST: 1:17 - Geek of the Week: Jasmin - A Sign of Affection (Crunchyroll); Mark - Yellowface (2023) 22:23 - Movie summary and fun facts 35:39 - X-Men: Dark Phoenix review You can follow us on X, Facebook and Instagram or if you would like to support us you can donate to our KoFi.

Another Late to the Party Book Club episode in the middle of our "Summer of X!" Since we just covered Days of Future Past last week, we're now on the two issue run that started it all! Once again, we're joined by our brother Lynk to deep dive into the legacy of this 1980s classic. TRACKLIST: 3:17 - Familiarity with this story 9:56 - The legacy of this story 11:43 - Do writers know when their work will be iconic? 17:45 - What is this story really about? 22:25 - How did we read it? 26:26 - What were your thoughts when you first read this vs now? 39:27 - How does this story fit into the current MCU? 45:24 - Accessibility of this book 50:26 - Story structure 56:47 - Thoughts on the artwork You can follow us on X, Facebook and Instagram or if you would like to support us you can donate to our KoFi.
We are joined once again by our homie, Lynk to help us get through this -- dare we say -- underrated film? That's right, our "Summer of X" continues as we tackle The Rogue Cut of X-Men Days of Future Past. And when we say this is an underrated film, you'll understand why when we talk about the absolute POWERHOUSE year for blockbuster films that was 2014. TRACKLIST: 1:20 - Geek of the Week: Lynk - X-Men 97 and Superman Blue; Jasmin - Tadaima, Okaeri!; Mark - The Fall Guy 10:24 - Film summary and fun facts 19:52 - How we got this film 24:59 - How did we watch this film the first time vs now 31:48 - Theatrical Cut vs The Rogue Cut 40:11 - Overall thoughts on this film 48:57 - Our favorite characters 52:59 - Thoughts on the plot 1:02:50 - Favorite scenes 1:08:09 - What we would have changed or cut 1:11:22 - Other films that came out this same year 1:21:45 - Where to find us online You can follow us on X, Facebook and Instagram or if you would like to support us you can donate to our KoFi.
Although neither of the Geeks saw this film in theaters, they were united in their thoughts on this entry that restarts a struggling franchise. Also, can you guess whose powers each of us would have chosen for ourselves? TRACKLIST: 1:43 - Geek of the Week: Jasmin - The Killer (Netflix); Mark - Civil War (2024) 9:40 - Summary and fun facts 22:06 - X-Men First Class (2011) review You can follow us on X, Facebook and Instagram or if you would like to support us you can donate to our KoFi.
After last week's anti-climactic end to the original X-Men trilogy, we decided to go back to the source material. We're reading The Dark Phoenix Saga to see what could have been. But be warned, this saga is not so easily digestible for comic novices. TRACKLIST: 1:27 - How familiar are we with these characters? 4:06 - Summary and our thoughts on this story/arc 11:01 - How would this story have been told now, 40+ years later? 18:10 - How did we read it and our thoughts on the artwork 26:35 - Legacy of this graphic novel You can follow us on X, Facebook and Instagram or if you would like to support us you can donate to our KoFi.
And here we are... The movie in this series we like to pretend doesn't exist. Now in 2024, is this film as bad as it was back in 2006? Listen in to hear what we think! TRACKLIST: 1:35 - Geek of the Week: Mark - Godzilla X Kong; Jasmin - My Hero Academia rewatch 9:30 - Film summary and fun facts 20:22 - X-Men: The Last Stand review You can follow us on X, Facebook and Instagram or if you would like to support us you can donate to our KoFi.
A rare occasion in film where the sequel is better than the original? We certainly think X2 fits the bill. We did get a bit sidetracked at the beginning of the episode with our discussion on Quiet On Set. Trigger warning, we do briefly mention some of the abuse that the documentary covers. TRACKLIST: 1:21 - Geek of the Week: Jasmin - Quiet on Set; Mark - Unforgotten 31:49 - Summary and fun facts 43:40 - X2: X-Men United (2003) review You can follow us on X, Facebook and Instagram or if you would like to support us you can donate to our KoFi.
We are back this week with, arguably, the film that kicked off our higher expectations in the Superhero film genre. (2008 took that to new heights, but that's another conversation for another day...) X-Men, or as Mark calls it, The Wolverine Show, really raised the bar for comic book films! All this and more as we continue our run of all the mutant films! TRACKLIST: 1:19 - Geek of the Week: Jasmin - Dangerous Convenience Store Vol 2; Mark - Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire 10:08 - Summary and fun facts 25:54 - X-Men (2002) review You can follow us on X, Facebook and Instagram or if you would like to support us you can donate to our KoFi.
And here we go! Kicking off our BIGGEST themed run EVER -- the Geeks are tackling every single X-Men film. And yes, we mean EVERY one of them.
