On this episode of Bad Dads Film Review, the team reviews Abigail (2024) — a gleefully gory vampire horror-comedy from Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett, starring Melissa Barrera, Alisha Weir, Dan Stevens, Kathryn Newton, Kevin Durand, Angus Cloud, Giancarlo Esposito, and Matthew Goode. In this episodeWhy the poster and streaming artwork spoil the film's big vampire revealUniversal's monster-movie legacy, from the failed Dark Universe to The Invisible Man, Renfield, and AbigailThe heist-movie setup: anonymous criminals, Rat Pack aliases, a creepy manor, and a 24-hour ransom jobAbigail's Swan Lake opening and the early clue that she may not be as young as she looksThe crew: Joey, Frank, Sammy, Rickles, Peter, Dean, and LambertGiancarlo Esposito airport-chat, Terry Waite hostage tangent, and the inevitable Bad Dads detoursKristof Lazaar as the film's Keyser Söze figureDean's pantry death, the Valdez misdirection, and the vampire reveal everyone at home probably already knew was comingFailed vampire defences: holy water, crucifixes, garlic/onions, stakes, sunlight, and general criminal incompetenceThe corpse pool, puppet-dancing, flying vampires, exploding bodies, and the increasingly messy final actDan Stevens as Frank, Alisha Weir's excellent monster-child performance, and Melissa Barrera grounding the whole thing as JoeyParent-child horror: Joey's absent-mother guilt versus Abigail's desperate need for her father's attentionBad Dads consensusSidey: Strong recommend — enjoyed the daftness, gore, performances, and vampire lore playDan: Strong recommend — expected something scarier, but found it funny, silly, and much more enjoyable than fearedReegs: Positive overall — liked the craft and cast, compared it to From Dusk Till Dawn, but felt the ending dragged and got messyCris: Not a recommend — thought it was too long, not funny enough, and stranded between comedy, horror, and thrillerFinal takeAbigail works best as a polished, knowingly ridiculous locked-house monster movie: criminals in a mansion, vampire ballerina on the loose, and enough exploding blood to repaint a stately home. Twenty-six years after the Wayans brothers changed the comedy landscape with Scary Movie (2000), they're back with Scary Movie (2026) and, naturally, we had to cover it for Episode 209. With much of the original cast returning, the franchise delivers another outrageous mix of laughs, parody, and unapologetically offensive humor. In this episode, we discuss the franchise's return, break down which jokes landed (and which didn't), and debate whether we'd be interested in seeing a Spoof spin-off series, featuring a few of our favorite shows. Jazz also shares highlights from her AAFCA roundtable conversation with Shawn and Marlon Wayans, while Jason imagines how the film might have looked with Melissa Barrera in the cast.Between the jokes, nostalgia, and plenty of laughs, we still answer the most important question: Was It Good Though?

Melissa Barrera joins the show to discuss her long-awaited Broadway debut as Rose in the hit musical Titanique. She shares the determined journey that led her to the St. James Theatre, including the decision to fly herself to New York to audition in person rather than settling for a Zoom session. Melissa reflects on the unique "lightning in a bottle" energy of the Titanique company and the challenge of maintaining a straight face while her castmates, including Marla Mindelle and Jim Parsons, deliver their most ridiculous improvisations. The conversation also dives into Melissa's extensive screen career, from her early days in Mexican telenovelas to leading global franchises like Scream and In the Heights. She opens up about the physical and emotional exhaustion of filming the survival drama Keep Breathing and the catharsis she found in the horror-romance Your Monster. Beyond the credits, Melissa discusses the mental resilience required to tune out social media "noise" and how her mother's example as a hardworking primary breadwinner instilled the drive that continues to fuel her career today. Melissa Barrera is a versatile actor and singer who gained international recognition as Vanessa in the film adaptation of In the Heights. Her television credits include the critically acclaimed series Vida, the Netflix survival drama Keep Breathing, and the Peacock thriller The Copenhagen Test. On the big screen, she led the fifth and sixth installments of the Scream franchise and starred in the title role of Carmen. Before moving to Hollywood, she was a prominent figure in Mexican media, appearing on the reality show La Academia and starring in various telenovelas. The discussion moves to Melissa Barrera's absence from Scream 7, with Lussier recapping how her firing over social media posts led to a wave of cast and crew departures, eventually forcing the studio to bring her back, and whether her continued public commentary is helping or hurting her standing in Hollywood. The segment closes with Disney's better-than-expected quarterly earnings and Lussier's firsthand account of the chaotic ticket sale for Star Wars Celebration 2027 in Atlanta — the first U.S. edition in five years and the 50th anniversary of the franchise — which sold out over the course of roughly six hours.

In this episode of Half Hour, we take a closer look at the 2026 Broadway production of Titaníque at the St. James Theatre, the Céline Dion-fueled parody of Titanic that has sailed uptown after its celebrated Off-Broadway run. We break down how the show's journey from a downtown cult favorite to a commercial Broadway production affects the storytelling, the humor, and the overall energy in a larger house. We discuss the creative team's concept, the use of Dion's catalog, and the legal and artistic hurdles of building a parody around iconic film characters and globally known pop songs. We examine how the production values (set, lighting, sound, and choreography) have been scaled up for the St. James, and whether the show maintains the scrappy, anything-for-a-laugh spirit that defined its Off-Broadway run. The conversation highlights standout turns from Marla Mindelle as Céline Dion, Melissa Barrera, Deborah Cox, Frankie Grande, John Riddle, Constantine Rousouli, and Layton Williams, and considers how this ensemble shapes the show's tone and audience reception on Broadway. We also speculate on potential Tony Awards attention and where Titaníque fits in the broader landscape of contemporary Broadway comedy and parody musicals. Welcome and/or Welcome back to Tina's Tea Podcast! - For Real Film Lovers -This episode, I am joined on the pod by my brother Ant, discussing one of the latest films we've seen in theaters, the 2026 American slasher film, Scream 7.Full disclosure, I always set out to boycott seeing this film in theaters, mainly due to Melissa Barrera getting fired for simply posting support for Palestine on social media, but also, because Jenna Ortega decided to leave soon after, then to top it off, the original hired director, Christopher Landon, proceeded to exit the project, because the film "no longer existed" after Melissa Barrera's firing. I myself, happen to agree. I had a feeling this film would be a complete dumpster fire. Now, since my brother decided on forcing me to see this monstrosity in theaters, I decided on not using my own money to pay. I was determined to stick to my goal, continuing to boycott this film's release in some way, so I paid using some of my saved AMC A-List Stubs Member points! I know, genius right? So, in the end, and for the record, I will not have assisted the film, Scream 7, monetarily in any way. The Film Board by The Next Reel Film Podcasts

Ghostface is back. Sidney Prescott is back. Kevin Williamson — the writer who started it all in 1996 — is back, this time in the director's chair. And The Film Board is here to pick through the wreckage.Pete Wright convenes the panel — Tommy Metz III, Steve Sarmento, and Mandy Kaplan — for a full-spoiler autopsy of Scream 7, the franchise's seventh installment and its most complicated origin story yet. The film arrives trailing the collapse of a whole other movie: Melissa Barrera's firing, Jenna Ortega's departure, two directors exiting before a frame was shot, and Neve Campbell finally getting what she was owed to come back. What ended up on screen bears those scars — and the panel doesn't look away from them. There's plenty to argue about. Tommy arrives as the franchise's longest-tenured Film Board voice and delivers his most critical take yet — the kills are flat, the villain reveal is the weakest in franchise history, and the AI deepfake conceit is nostalgia for nostalgia's sake. Steve, against form, finds himself in the film's corner: the Sidney-Tatum mother-daughter dynamic gives him something real to hold onto, and he'll take that over clever-but-hollow any day. Mandy had a genuinely good time, found Anna Camp's casting as transparent as a freshly-cleaned window, and would very much like Tatum's next chapter to be a musical. Pete sits somewhere in the middle — glad to have Kevin Williamson back, troubled by what he had to work with, and still thinking about the better movie that never got made. They get into the production chaos, the Barrera-shaped hole in the script, the question of whether the AI angle says anything worth saying, the correct use of a panic room, the mystery of a certain line reading, and whether Scream 7 has dethroned Scream 3 at the bottom of the franchise pile.

Scream 7 (2026) is the seventh installment in the long-running slasher franchise and a direct sequel to Scream VI (2023). Directed by Kevin Williamson, who co-wrote the screenplay with Guy Busick from a story by Busick and James Vanderbilt, the film sees Neve Campbell return as Sidney Prescott alongside Jasmin Savoy Brown, Mason Gooding, David Arquette, Matthew Lillard, and Courteney Cox. New cast members include Isabel May, Anna Camp, Mckenna Grace, and Joel McHale. The story centers on a new Ghostface killer targeting Sidney's daughter.Originally set to be directed by Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett's successor Christopher Landon, the film underwent major creative changes following the departures of Melissa Barrera and Jenna Ortega. Williamson ultimately stepped in as director. Filming ran from January to March 2025. Released February 27, 2026, by Paramount Pictures, the film drew negative reviews but delivered the franchise's biggest opening weekend.Disclaimer: The following may contain offensive language, adult humor, and/or content that some viewers may find offensive – The views and opinions expressed by any one speaker does not explicitly or necessarily reflect or represent those of Mark Radulich or W2M Network.Mark Radulich and his wacky podcast on all the things:https://linktr.ee/markkind76alsohttps://www.teepublic.com/user/radulich-in-broadcasting-networkFB Messenger: Mark Radulich LCSWTiktok: @markradulichtwitter: @MarkRadulichInstagram: markkind76RIBN Album Playlist: https://suno.com/playlist/91d704c9-d1ea-45a0-9ffe-5069497bad59

This week on Forgotten Cinema, the Mikes wrap up their Scream Lead Up series with "Scream VI", the final stop before diving into "Scream 7".Both Mike Butler and Mike Field still like this entry, but it stands as the weakest of the franchise so far in their rankings. A big part of that comes from the absence of Sidney Prescott and the somewhat awkward shoehorning of Gale into the story. The film also lacks the sharp meta commentary that defines the series, and the villain reveal and finale lean heavily into goofiness rather than tension. That said, "Scream VI" is still a good time. The kills are strong, the set pieces are memorable, and several sequences stand out, including the Gale versus Ghostface showdown and the tense Halloween subway ride. Melissa Barrera continues to grow into the role of Sam, delivering one of the stronger performances of the new era. With the Lead Up complete, the Mikes also rank the franchise so far and reflect on where the series stands heading into its next chapter. Even if "Scream VI" doesn't reach the heights of its predecessors, it proves the franchise still knows how to entertain. So join the Mikes as the go through each film in the "Scream" saga leading up to the release of "Scream 7".What are Scream rankings? Let us know in the comments!

For this week's main podcast review, Katie Johnson, Dan Bayer, and Aaron Isenstein join me to discuss the latest film in the "Scream" franchise, "Scream 7" with Neve Campbell, Jasmin Savoy Brown, Mason Gooding, David Arquette, Matthew Lillard, and Courteney Cox reprising their roles from the previous films, and Isabel May, Anna Camp, Michelle Randolph, Jimmy Tatro, Mckenna Grace, Asa Germann, Celeste O'Connor, Sam Rechner, Mark Consuelos, Tim Simons, and Joel McHale also starring. Following the exit of "Scream" (2022) and "Scream VI" directors Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett in August 2023, Christopher Landon was hired to direct the film. However, the film underwent creative retooling after the firing of star Melissa Barrera and the departure of Jenna Ortega in late 2023, with Landon also leaving the project. In March 2024, Campbell confirmed her return to the franchise after being absent from the last film, with series creator Kevin Williamson hired to direct the film after serving as writer and producer on the early films in the series. This latest entry follows a new Ghostface killer who targets Sidney Prescott's daughter. After all the controversy surrounding its production, what did we think of the final product? Tune in as we discuss the story, its use of legacy characters, its themes of AI technology and generational trauma, the brutal kills, the franchise's future, and more in our SPOILER-FILLED review. The debate around Scream 7 has become much bigger than a horror franchise. After Melissa Barrera was fired following her public support of Gaza, many fans began calling for a boycott — arguing that the studio's ties to Israel represent support for policies they believe amount to genocide. But is boycotting the film enough? In this episode, I break down the discourse surrounding Scream 7, Melissa Barrera's firing, and the broader conversation around Gaza and “Free Palestine” activism. More importantly, I explore a deeper question: are we practicing complete activism — or selective activism? It's easy to withdraw support. It's harder to intentionally redirect it.If we admire courage, are we willing to fund it? If someone takes a stand aligned with our values and pays a professional price, do we materially support their work afterward? Or does our activism stop at the symbolic gesture? This conversation isn't about telling you whether to see Scream 7. It's about examining how we practice our values — in culture, in media, and in the systems we participate in every day. We'll also clarify something critical: when it comes to Gaza or any humanitarian crisis, direct financial support to reputable aid organizations should always come first. Cultural boycotts are secondary. Lives are primary.Let's talk about consistency, integrity, and what real alignment looks like.

This episode of Geeks Unleashed, "Episode 207 - The Black Phone 2," hosted by Mark and Stef, is a Halloween-themed discussion that covers gaming news, a new movie trailer, and a deep dive review of a horror sequel. The main segments and topics covered include:Gaming News: Xbox & ExclusivesThe hosts discuss the major news that the flagship Xbox franchise, Halo, is coming to PlayStation, starting with a remastered campaign of the first game [01:33:42].They view this as a continuation of a trend, noting that Forza and Gears of War exclusives have also gone multi-platform. Steph suggests that the future of gaming is about convenience, and console exclusives are no longer the "make or break" factor they once were [01:15:10].Mark expresses disappointment over the Game Pass price increase, calling the jump to $30 "a lot" [01:17:08].Scream 7 Trailer ReactionThe hosts react to the new Scream 7 trailer, with Mark expressing his annoyance about the controversial firings/departures of Melissa Barrera and Jenna Ortega [26:22].Mark is pleased that Neve Campbell is returning to the franchise [27:24] and notes a cool callback: her daughter is named Tatum (after her friend in Scream 1) [27:41].They also discuss the fan theory about Matthew Lillard's character, Stu, potentially having survived the events of the original film [31:53].The majority of the episode is dedicated to reviewing the sequel, The Black Phone 2, which Mark and Stef agree is a clear cash grab after the success of the first film.Story Shift & FocusThe first film was a "horror thriller," but the sequel is a full-on "horror supernatural" film, focusing more on the sister, Gwen, and her psychic abilities [53:37].Both hosts were disappointed by the shift, wishing the sequel had instead focused on the brother Finny's trauma after his experience with the Grabber [56:57]. Steph was particularly turned off by the introduction of dream fighting, comparing it to A Nightmare on Elm Street (Freddy Krueger) [58:47].Criticisms & PraisesMajor Criticism: Despite the R/18 rating, no one dies in the entire movie, other than the three victims killed before the film's events [01:03:00].High Points: They praised the acting (especially Ethan Hawke as The Grabber) and the film's visual style/cinematography [01:00:58].They enjoyed the redemption arc for the father, Terrence, who has gotten sober after the first film and is dealing with the family's legacy of "the shine" [01:03:43].The character of Armando, the camp supervisor who dedicated his life to finding the bodies of the original victims, was praised as a compelling figure [01:07:24].Sequel ThoughtsMark (3/5) and Steph (2.5/5) would not rewatch the film.Mark suggests a prequel focusing on The Grabber's origin story as the best way to continue the franchise [01:21:16].For Halloween, Stef shared a few horror recommendations:Overlord (2018)The Sickening (Korean/Taiwanese zombie film)Night of the Comet (Classic '80s horror)The episode closes with a discussion of older music players like the Walkman and MiniDisc, and the announcement that next week's episode will be a review of Revival Season 1.You can follow us on X, Facebook and Instagram or if you would like to support us you can donate to our KoFi.

[Editor's Note: We experienced some technical difficulties with the audio of this episode. Our apologies, and thank you for your understanding!]Meghann Fahy's been thriving on screen for quite some time now. She was in over 80 episodes of One Life to Live as Hannah O'Connor and starred in the hit Freeform series The Bold Type which ran for five seasons. But, there's no denying that The White Lotus was a different kind of game-changer. Not only did Mike White's HBO series continue to be a pop culture sensation in its second season, but the quality of the new episodes earned nine members of the ensemble Emmy nominations, including Fahy.Since that Emmy nomination? Fahy's downright soaring. She had a role in the 2024 genre mash-up gem Your Monster starring a Collider Ladies Night favorite, Melissa Barrera. She was in The Perfect Couple with Nicole Kidman, she was in Rebuilding with Josh O'Connor which earned high praise at Sundance, and is also in Molly Smith Metzler's highly anticipated Netflix series Sirens with Julianne Moore and Milly Alcock. All very exciting achievements, but there's something extra special about the movie Fahy has hitting theaters on April 11. Christopher Landon's Drop marks the very first time Fahy is #1 on the call sheet for a feature film. She headlines as Violent, a widowed mother reluctantly going on her first date in years. While dining in an upscale restaurant with her dating app match, Brandon Sklenar's Henry, Violet starts getting a string of unusual and alarming anonymous drops to her phone. Is it her date? Is it another diner? Or perhaps it's an employee at the restaurant. Violet doesn't know and she'll have to figure it out on her own because the assailant is watching and they insist she tell no one - or else.Drop rocks a sharp script and the much-needed skilled mind and eye to execute it in Landon, but the success of the film heavily depends on Fahy's ability to deftly navigate the production challenges that come with such a concept while also ensuring the viewer can feel the threat Violet's under, and she excels tackling both - big time. While celebrating Drop's World Premiere screening at SXSW, Fahy visited the Collider Media Studio at the Cinema Center for a Collider Ladies Night interview to go back to the beginning and recap her journey to landing at the top of the call sheet.
