"Fuze" is a 2025 British crime thriller heist film directed by David Mackenzie and written by Ben Hopkins, starring Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Theo James, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, and Sam Worthington. Set in London, there is a citywide evacuation when an unexploded World War II bomb is unearthed at a busy construction site. Amid the escalating tension and chaos, a daring criminal operation is set in motion -- one that uses the evacuation as a cover for a meticulously planned bank heist. As authorities race against time to contain the crisis, alliances blur, and moral boundaries are crossed. The film premiered at the 2025 Toronto International Film Festival, where it received positive reviews for its action, tension, twists, and muscular direction. Taylor-Johnson, Worthington, and Mackenzie were all kind enough to spend some time talking with us about their work and experiences making the film, which you can listen to below. Fletcher Powell says a new crime thriller *mostly* delivers.
Forget everything you know about the "Dark Universe"—Lee Cronin (Evil Dead Rise) is bringing us a version of The Mummy that is pure, unadulterated horror. This isn't an adventure romp; it's a claustrophobic, terrifying descent into ancient malice. We discuss if Cronin's signature "family horror" style works for this legendary monster.Fun Flix Fact: Lee Cronin is a stickler for practical effects. For the "sandstorm" sequences, the production reportedly used over 20 tonnes of dyed walnut shells instead of CGI to ensure the actors were actually struggling to breathe and move on camera. It gives the film a gritty, "in-your-teeth" texture you just can't fake!Next, we're shifting gears to the London-set heist thriller Fuze. Starring Aaron Taylor-Johnson and Theo James, the film follows a daring robbery that takes place during the chaos of a real-life unexploded World War II bomb discovery.Fun Flix Fact: Director David Mackenzie reunited with his Outlaw King lead, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, for this project. Mackenzie is a master of building slow-burn tension, and he used the "emptied" streets of London to create a strangely eerie, post-apocalyptic vibe for the heist.Production Trivia: The "bomb" used in the film was a meticulously detailed replica of a 500kg German SC500 bomb. The prop was so realistic that the production team had to keep it covered with tarps whenever they weren't filming to avoid causing a genuine public panic! To celebrate a decade of occult excellence, we're revisiting the 2016 Irish horror masterpiece A Dark Song. This isn't your typical "jump scare" movie; it's a grueling, slow-burn ritual that explores the absolute limits of human grief.Fun Flix Fact: The film was shot in a real, isolated country house in County Wicklow, Ireland. To keep the atmosphere authentic, the actors remained mostly isolated on-site throughout the shoot, mirroring the "sealing of the house" that takes place in the film. And if that's not enough entertainment for you, we've even thrown in new trailers to watch and what you can catch on streaming. From playing Club Rep in The Inbetweeners movie to the star of Divergent, The White Lotus, The Gentlemen, and now action thriller Fuze (out in cinemas now) — Theo James has quietly won us all over. In this chat with Josh, Theo opens up about the pressure of being a leading man in an industry obsessed with physicality, and why the rise of the manosphere worries him deeply. He reflects on a culture increasingly defined by money and status over relationships and morality — and what that means for young men today. He also gets candid about his short-lived music career, his UN Ambassador work with refugees, and fighting with Anthony Hopkins. This week's episode of the Empire Podcast is an Easter bonanza, folks, that sees Chris Hewitt, Helen O'Hara, and James Dyer (with new honorific firmly in place, at least for now) discuss the best resurrections in movies, wax lyrical about Richard Kind in The Producers, and cast their learned eyes over a glut of movie trailers, including the new one for Supergirl, and review Fuze, The Drama, The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, and Mike & Nick & Nick & Alice. Speaking of Fuze, Chris has a lovely chat with that film's star and director, Aaron Taylor-Johnson and David Mackenzie, about their heist thriller, accents, working on a building site, and more. Pop this pod in the fridge, smash it from a great height, and feast on the shards of film-related fun. Enjoy!

The Unconventional Making of FUZE with Aaron Taylor-Johnson & David Mackenzie How do you craft the perfect anti-hero? In this episode of The Filmmakers Podcast, host Dom Lenoir sits down with Golden Globe-winning actor Aaron Taylor-Johnson (Kick Ass Tenet), and Academy Award-nominated director David Mackenzie (Hell or High Water, Relay) following the explosive premiere of their new high-octane thriller, FUZE. Aaron and David break down their unique, highly spontaneous collaborative process. David reveals why he completely abandons traditional continuity and prefers to "shoot the rehearsal," while Aaron shares his ultimate advice for actors: stop learning your lines in only one way. We also dive into the nitty-gritty of why they believe British film crews are some of the best and most adaptable in the world. If you want to know how to capture "energized naturalism" on screen and keep your actors on their toes, this is a masterclass you don't want to miss. With defense technology constantly evolving, the military services are looking to accelerate the discovery, development and deployment of emerging technologies. The Army launched its FUZE innovation engine last fall to fund promising technologies and move cutting-edge capabilities from prototype to operational use faster. Matthew Willis, FUZE director, said the program aligns with the Pentagon's broader push to accelerate technology adoption and modernize defense acquisition. Willis explained that FUZE consolidates several previously disconnected Army innovation efforts and overlays them with a venture-capital-style investment model. FUZE, Willis said, operates more like a Silicon Valley firm, taking calculated risks early, making multiple small investments, scaling successful technologies and quickly divesting from those that do not deliver results. Willis added that the Army must embrace risk tolerance, make "big bets" on the most critical capabilities and avoid spreading resources too thin.

For Episode 483, I am joined by Nadia Dalimonte, the day before the 98th Academy Awards, to discuss what's on our minds, how we're feeling, and answer your last-minute fan questions. We have traditionally done this with the NBP Film Community in years past. Still, circumstances this year pushed this to be a last-minute episode for the podcast before the big show tomorrow evening. With that said, we reveal the winner of last week's poll, asking, "Which Film Do You Think Will Be The Next Best Picture Oscar Winner?" We also share our reactions to the trailers for "Power Ballad," "Hokum," "Obsession," and "Fuze." We're as anxious as all of you, but in less than 24 hours, we'll know the final outcome. We cannot wait to experience the show with all of you! Once again, thank you for listening, subscribing, and supporting us through another fun and eventful awards season. Enjoy!
