Jon and the Chooms talk about new shows, games, and movies!
Well folks its finally happening, a Mafia game set in Sicily at the turn of the 20th Century! I am very excited! But that wasn't the only news out of Gamescom this week, another Bethesda title is going multiplatform, old franchises are returning, and new adaptations are unexpectedly coming! Also, don't go after actors for roles they play, they aren't really those characters! Meanwhile, Deadpool & Wolverine continues to break records, Indiana Jones's hat sells for over $600k, and The Acolyte is sent packing. Nic Cage, now here's a guy, will be playing John Madden, and forget the chicken sandwich war, Chick-fil-a is jumping into the streaming wars.

Geoff Keighly continues to build Summer Game Fest on the corpse of E3, so we watched all the hot showcases and let you know what we think! Many things were revealed, but nothing too crazy. Matt played a lot of older games and started Hellblade 2 while I mostly played the hottest new metroidvania to hit the market, Nine Sols.
Where is that Sony Showcase? We touch on that. While Sony has been quiet the hype continues into this summer as we get a reveal trailer for the next entry in Assassin's Creed while 2K is teasing something big at Geoff Keighly's summer event. Rumor has it Microsoft plans to make a big splash this summer by having a big Activision title a Day 1 Game Pass game. They also just released the visually stunning Hellblade II and we touch on reviews. Finally Nick is collecting combatants in Vanillaware's Unicorn Overlord while our other combatants return to finish the final few fights of our long running Battle Royale. And the Award goes too...boy was that a fun Oscars telecast, I enjoyed it. Full of nonsurprises. Also the world mourns the loss of a great man, we lost the Great Akira Toriyama last week, he provided to much to so many people, he will never be forgotten. And In the best news, Patty Jenkins is still making her Rogue Squadron movie for Lucasfilm! Plus we learned about a cancelled Spider-Man multiplayer game, Mario has his MAR10 day, and Shrek 2 is coming back to theaters. Come take a listen!
Tonight's questions: - Will there be another video game crash? - What's the optimal ROI for AAA exclusives? - Will there be any big gaming acquisitions in 2024? - Why is there hypocrisy about exclusives being good/bad? - Have your gaming habits changed this generation? - Should Xbox and PlayStation have diversified their games? - Who has the best chance to win next-gen? - Will you get a next-gen console on day one? - Should there be more “AA” games? - Will we see more AI-created 2D platformers? - Why doesn't Geoff Keighly ever discuss layoffs in gaming? - What is Naughty Dog working on next? - Will EA close Bioware if its next games flop? - Will Final Fantasy VII Rebirth outsell Final Fantasy XVI? - Is Larian Studios going to be held to a higher standard? If you listen to this podcast that means you're too deep. You know Geoff Keighly's full government name, you know the Switch 2 was internally delayed to 2025 even though it was never announced, and you maybe you even know all the words to the Alan Wake II musical number. So how does one whose brain has been poisoned by such nice and useless video game knowledge talk with a casual? We discuss that as well as one of the best games ever (not our words), Arsene's legendary painter relative, Jury Duty, and so much more in this jam-packed cooldown. -------- #FKM Discord https://playerplayerpod.com/discord Website http://playerplayerpod.com/ Twitter https://twitter.com/playerplayerpod Intro Music Provided by Aaron Miller https://www.instagram.com/themillerchild Joseph https://twitter.com/th3hoopman Arsene https://twitter.com/paxarsenica
We have a review of Godzilla Minus One, which im gonna say now, my favorite movie of 2023, hands down. We also got the game awards last week, over 20 new games announced, most of which had no release dates, Baldur's Gate 3 was the big winner, no surprises. We also saw the announcement of several movies, and the release of several trailers for big upcoming sequels. Barbie and Succession dominate the Golden Globe Nominees, and we lost a great star of Brooklyn Nine-Nine.
The 2023 Game Awards have come and gone, and just like in years past, we've watched it so you don't have too! We break down Tears of the Kingdom's performance and debate whether it deserved to win GOTY or not, as well as give our thoughts on some of the other winners and the format of Geoff Keighly's extravaganza as a whole! We also talk about what announcements got us excited and what games we're looking forward to! PLUS, we break down series producer Eiji Aonuma's recent thoughts on Tears of the Kingdom's timeline placement, if he thinks that players will ever return to that version of Hyrule, and what the future of the Ultrahand mechanic is! Mobile gamers have a problem... they may have to change games more often than their PC and console counterparts, while host of The Game Awards 2023 Geoff Keighly and his company have updated security on the show. Fox's Eammonn Dignam explains why in this "FOX on Games. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
Despite some comments by Xbox CFO Tim Stuart about the hope that Game Pass would end up on all screens, including those of the PlayStation and Nintendo - Phil Spencer has clarified, or maybe doubled back a bit by stating that there are currently no plans to get Game Pass onto PlayStation and Nintendo. According to some Christmas lists, the demand for physical games have dropped below subscriptions and virtual currency. This comes as little surprise, considering the value that game subscriptions like Game Pass bring to the table. Coupled with the popularity of games like Fortnite that use virtual currency to purchase in-game items. After having members of the public disrupt both The Game Awards 2022 and Summer Game Fest 2023, Geoff Keighly has confirmed that the security for The Game Awards 2023 has been enhanced. He did not elaborate much, understandably, as revealing security measures would open the door for them to be circumvented. Fingers crossed these security enhancements keep the show running smoothly this year.
We should all have courage like David Zaslav (; ̄Д ̄). Lord Gaben has been required to return to the US for court, more layoffs hit the game development world, and CD Projekt Red is really gearing up for the Witcher 4. Meanwhile The Hunger Games prequel is just wrapping up the box office, Taika wants to make sure his Star Wars will be good, and Chris Evans is totally unware of the return of Cap. Also I give my top 10 90s Drama films.
Get Ready! "The Game Awards" hosted by journalist Geoff Keighly has announced their nominees for "Game of the Year" and it's stacked list. Fox's Eammonn Dignam has the details on those nominees and more in "FOX on Games." Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

Let's get this out of the way right now: Geoff Keighly needs up his security game (but otherwise he handled the incident as well as can be expected) and Sony's streaming-only handheld thing is a bit cheaper than feared, but still seems a bit silly. There. Done. We can get to focusing on some actual games now. Afterall, it is called Gamescom, and it also just happens to be what the crew is discussing this here episode. The crew in question is led by Ken this week, with Renee and Tim filling the extra chairs. It's a good show for games, too - not only were there plenty to talk about after the break, the the crew brought with them a weird and wacky suite of things they've been playing that may well be entirely unfamiliar to most listeners! E3 might be cancelled, but what happened over the last few days sure feels like E3. We had an Xbox Games Showcase, Ubisoft Forward, Summer Games Fest, Capcom Showcase, and and whole lot more. And boy, how about that Starfield Direct, that is the first time I've been excited for a Bethesda game. Also the Writers strike claims new victims, unsurprisingly, Netflix gets new subscribers, and stick around for a spoiler filled review of Transformers: Rise of the Beasts.
Hey guys! In this episode, we buckle up for a rollercoaster ride through the gaming universe in this episode of our podcast. We dive headfirst into the juicy controversy stirred up by none other than Geoff Keighly himself, as he spills the tea on E3 Expo discontinuing. Is this the end of an era or just a new level unlocked? While it's a bummer for the gaming community, we're more concerned about where to get our free swag now. We also explore the dazzling rise of AI tools that are revolutionizing the gaming industry. From intelligent NPCs to mind-blowing procedural generation, it's like playing God with pixels! The universe has survived another bout of Geoff Keighly's Game Awards, where the real awards are the memes mined from cynical adults' Twitter timelines. Does that work grammatically? Eh, whatever. Point is, Geoff Keighly threw a party and now there are new RPGs to talk about. Which Nadia and Eric do with the help of very special guest Lucas White. Another important topic of discussion: The overlooked RPG gems of 2022. A whole heap of games dropped way too late to get that sweet, sweet December recognition, and the Blood God crew does its best to give them a nice boost. Also in this episode: The real treasure in Dragon Quest Treasures are the Slime friends we made along the way. Holy crap! Hades II is coming! Holy crap! Chained Echoes is really good! A riveting tale of Sonic the Hedgehog and election fraud.
It's that time of year, so Geoff Keighly put on his favourite sneakers and treated us to hours of Game Award goodness, with winners and premieres galore. The biggest battle of the night may have been God of War: Ragnarok Vs Elden Ring, but there was much more to see! Al Pacino made an appearance as did Michael Madson and Chris Judge single-handedly gave away 8 Steam Decks! Expect hot takes and trash opinions.
This week Mitch and Keith take you through all of the 40+ announcements at Opening Night Live for Gamescom 2022. Recently I always find some excuse not to do the timestamps and today it's because I'm almost falling asleep as I type this. The podcast however, was mildly exciting! Gamescom is happening and Geoff Keighly announced some stuff that was okay? Also the PS5 is getting a price increase in almost every territory. As for the games we've been playing I've been continuing to chip away at Xenoblade Chronicles 3 while Matt finished Bayonetta 2 and moved on to the zombie parkour of Dying Light 2. To finish we discuss what console and ten games we would bring if we were for some reason forced into that situation.
Geoff Keighly was unable to wow us with any of the Gamescom Opening Night Live announcements but at least we are getting a new podcast from Hideo Kojima to listen to in our Pokemon themed Mini Coopers. We ditch the format to break down the PlayStation 5 price increase and all the news from this year's Gamescom. Gamescom is upon us, and that means gaming announcements geared toward the European Market. But it also means, tons of sweet new game trailers and announcements. Destiny 2 is heading for a huge 2023, Madden 23 has some issues, and WB is up to its normal shenanigans, meanwhile our return to Westeros is better then we thought.
Featuring: Ammosart, Ashgar, Belghast, Grace, Kodra, Tamrielo, and Thalen Tonight was a weird show. Firstly we are recording this show on Belghast's Birthday, which in our almost 400 episodes I am not sure we have actually recorded on one of our Birthdays before. We set out with the mission of recording a show about the “Not E3” festivities that have been going on but get sidetracked as one does. Instead, we go down a path of talking about Diablo Immortal once again, but from the standpoint of how exactly one should be funding game development. Clearly, the NetEase and Blizzard team chose violence, but how exactly does one fund modern game development costs when the market has shown that if the price trickles up from $60… folks freak out. From there we do eventually return to talking about Sony, Microsoft, and whatever Geoff Keighly is running that now serves as the replacement for E3. Topics Discussed Bel's Birthday Diablo Immortal Again Funding Games Ethically Gamepass Model Microsoft Show Silksong Valheim Cross Play between Gamepass and Steam Star Citizen, Starfield, and the era of Space Games Redfall The Gamesir X2 controller reprised

Hey guys, this was originally part of a regular episode but there was a lot of stuff that happened at the Game Awards and we got a little side tracked. Hopefully you enjoy our thoughts on the game awards, the games announced, and the big one... The next console from Microsoft, The Xbox Series X
