    Devora Shabtai, LCSW, MSc, PhD Candidate currently serves as the Vice President of Clinical Development at Onward Living, an addiction rehabilitation program for Jewish men in Boca Raton, Florida. Devora specializes in the treatment of addiction and spiritual/religious trauma, as well as clinical program design that is tailored to meet the clinical and cultural needs of members of the Orthodox Jewish community within both inpatient and outpatient levels of care. Alongside clinical work, Devora has a background in evidence-based research and her current doctoral research is examining spiritual/religious identity development and its relationship to mental health. In this episode, we discuss how religious trauma occurs and how it ties into addiction. I utilize an evidence-based technique called Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), as well as extensive training in Mindfulness-Based Self Compassion, Ego State Work (Inner Child), attachment-repair work (AEDP), polyvagal theory, and somatic work to help my clients find safety and healing from within and transform with empowerment from victim to thriver. My passion is working with women survivors who are recovering from abuse and trauma. I am currently writing my first book demystifying specialized trauma therapy for the public.
