The Murder Phone podcast is an absolutely fascinating true crime series that has quickly become one of my favorite podcasts. The host, Tony Ciaglia, shares his own personal story as a brain injury survivor and how he became involved in corresponding with serial killers. The podcast delves into the minds of these killers through their letters, providing a rare and chilling firsthand account of heinous crimes. The dedication of Tony and his family to this project is evident in every episode, making it feel like you're sitting at the table with them as they discuss letters, phone calls, and their own personal experiences. Overall, this podcast is raw, unfiltered, and full of compelling information.
One of the best aspects of The Murder Phone podcast is the unique perspective it provides on true crime. While most true crime podcasts focus on the investigative side or retelling the stories from a distance, this podcast brings you up close and personal with the minds of serial killers themselves. The letters read on the show are brutal and horrifying, but they also offer valuable insights into the psychological aspect of these criminals. This deep dive into the thoughts and motivations behind their actions sets this podcast apart from others in the genre.
However, there are some areas where The Murder Phone could improve. The transitions between conversations and advertisements sometimes feel too blended, causing confusion for listeners who may think they are still part of the show. Additionally, there have been instances where background music dominates while reading letters or discussing certain topics, which can be distracting. Finally, some listeners have found Tony's occasional spin offs into sex jokes unrelated to the subject matter to be off-putting and prefer when the focus stays on topic.
In conclusion, despite its minor flaws in editing and occasional tangents off-topic humor by Tony himself that may not resonate with some listeners like myself , The Murder Phone podcast is undeniably captivating. It shines a light on a rarely explored aspect of true crime by sharing firsthand letters from serial killers, offering a unique and chilling perspective. The dedication of Tony and his family to this project is evident in every episode, making it a must-listen for true crime enthusiasts looking for something out of the ordinary. I highly recommend giving this podcast a chance and eagerly await future seasons.
Ken Bianchi's life long wish was that his story could be told to the world to prove his innocence. This season we will grant his wish and present his case. Ken through old phone calls and letters will act as his defense lawyer and try to lie over and over again to prove he is an innocent victim.Tony and his dad will be the prosecutors and present the case that proves he is a lying, psychopathic serial killer that ruthlessly killed 12 innocent girls and he is right where he belongs. The Murderphoniacs all over the world will be our jury and they will be able to communicate their feelings if he is guilty or not. This first episode will set up the beginnings of a relationship between Bianchi and Tony that lasted over 7 years. Tony became close with Ken's mom through many phone calls and a visit. The closer their relationship became, the more holes Tony could see in Ken and his mom's relationship. Bianchi is a coward that has never manned up to the terrible crimes he committed.

When your life is over tell me what it is that you want to be remembered as? Metheny's answer is priceless! Metheny the conman continues to whine about being broke. Metheny's letters are so detailed and are always fascinating, putting the listener right in the middle of the story.Tiny describes how he thought he saw a ghost when describing one of the female guards. She reminded him of the 12 year old girl that was his first kill back in 1970. He lost control and his actions once again ended up with him being put in the dreaded hole. Finally he describes another of his murders that he was never caught for. In detail he discusses the killing of a prostitute while he was a trucker out on the road. Even giving details where it happened and where she is to this day. Joe always intimated that victims were readily available to over the road truckers and he took full advantage.
Metheny sends Tony an unexpected present. He also describes more about his first kill experiences.Joe Metheny sends Tony a tooth that he pulled out of his mouth. This tooth actually consumed human flesh.Metheny also provides Tony with a T Shirt that is a 9 Large which give you an idea of the size of this monster. IOn the T-Shirt Tiny depicts in cartoon form what he used to do to his victims as he prepared them to serve at his BBQ stand. Al and Tony show and describe both the Tooth and T- shirt on the show. From hurting insects then animals to other kids in his neighborhood.Metheny talks in detail with Tony about his first kill. Something he has never discussed before. He was 15 and his victim was a 12 year old red haired girl. Metheny discusses his feelings after his first killing:"The first is exciting with your adrenaline rushing and then a fear of getting caught"."The second is a little easier but you're more paranoid because you got away with the 1st and you don't want to get caught"."The rest after that it's like swatting flies. You will have no feelings at all".
This episode starts with Tony reading a description of one of Joe Metheny's chilling murders. Metheny describes why he believes his mom is at fault for him becoming a serial killer. In a letter titled “Tears of a Child” Metheny describes his childhood and how he was left on the streets of Baltimore at the age of 6 to fend for himself. Tony and Al through Metheny's letters and phone calls prove that Metheny is a narcissistic sociopath that truly has no feelings or empathy for what he has done over the years. He totally lies about his upbringing.Metheny finally admits that he has no use for Jesus and says that “Jesus is dead and Satan rules over all of us!”
In todays episode we're going to get to know a little bit about Joe MethenyJoe Metheny is the personification of evil. He didn't try to hide who he was, there were no masks. He is one of the most vile people that you will ever hear about. Tony explains that when he got the letter from Metheny in January 2007 he really didn't know anything about these maniacs back then. But now after 15 years of communicating with them and learning so much about these psychopaths, It's like he got a PHD in Psychiatry!Based on his years of experience Tony will dissect a letter in a way to show how a psychopath tries to act normal but they can't. Metheny didn't wear a physical mask to hide who he was, but he sure tried to hide behind his words. This lesson in serial killer psychopathy really gives the listeners a frame of reference for future letters.

Tony and Al welcome Joey to the podcast to discuss how they are going to finally find Hansen's secret cabin. When these 3 get together you need to get ready to laugh.A summary of the season and where they are at today. The guys go over man of the clues and information that they will use to find the cabin.Tony sums up why they believe now is the time to find the cabin:We have Manfried's notes, We the map of the coastline where the cabin is, pictures of the cabin, We have satellite technology of the areas, We have the route Hansen took, We have what we can expect to find in the cabinWe now have the connections to get Manfried what he needs (and I quote) “if I had the proper tools I will get them so close to the cabin that they can't help but find it.”We need your help so we started a Go Fund Me Page which will have a link posted on our web page, our socials and email too. From this link you will be directed to our page where you can Donate and Share the link. Do whatever you can and we promise we'll do the rest. Please believe us that when we find this cabin and send Megan Emerick home to her family, the people that are involved will feel a sense of Euphoria like they have never experienced in their lifetime.
Tony and Al have a fascinating discussion with Bill Satterberg. Bill was Manfred's attorney back when Joe Vogler was killed. Bill talked with Manfried before our call and received permission from him to talk about the case.We learn exactly how the killing of Joe Vogler took place and that Bill felt Manfried had an excellent self defense case. You will hear the real story of how Joe Voglers body was found. No one has ever heard this story including Bill Satterberg. During there last call West revealed for the first time what really transpired and gave Bill permission to share it with Tony and Murder Phone. Of course we discuss the Hansen case, the cabin, and how Bill can help in the search for Megan Emerick. Bill has lived in Alaska for most of his life and has practiced law there for over 40 years. He knows the state and will be an incredible help in finding the cabin and bringing Megan Emerick home.
Tony and Manfried are now in present day so everything they do from now on is about finding the cabin and of course bringing Megan Emerick home. Tony had to make sure that Manfried was still on board so he asks him if he still wants to try to find the cabin. He shares their most recent conversation, and here is just a little of what we learn:Manfried wants to do it, but you can tell he's fed up.The only one he trusts to be involved is Tony.Hansen built the cabin with his wife and 2 small children in 1970.He only had his boat in Seward back then . No plane. He took 2 girls there by boat. One named Megan in 1973 and he thinks maybe Mary 1975. Hansen said one went in The Bay and one was buried.Tony shares another conversation with Megan Emerick's nephew Shayne that will blow your mind. Shayne talks about things that no one has ever heard including his father.
In 2013 for some unknown reason the plug was pulled on the investigation to find the cabin where Megan Emerick was buried.Tony and Manfried never gave up and decided they would use all the information that they had compiled and move ahead on their own.Tony was constantly trying other ways to find Hansen's cabin. This included many attempts through Hollywood connections that always led to dead ends. In 2017 Tony was receiving puzzling emails from Manfried regarding a Production company and Missing and Exploited Children looking to talk with Manfried again about finding the cabin. Manfried didn't trust anyone after what happened so he made the decision he would only talk with Tony about this. He wanted the cabin found but wanted to do it right. There are several present day conversations that are very interesting and further confirm the fact that Manfried is a changed manShayne Emerick who is Megan Emerick's nephew talks with Tony about what he heard about Megan when he was growing up, and how her disappearance affected the whole family.
In this Special Episode Tony share's one of his original writings from 2008. The Venom of the Black Widow is the story of a woman that just can't stand the thought of her boyfriend leaving her. Laverne Holton has her own unique way of keeping the man she loves close to her.
Tony discusses questions he has received about living life with a TBI. Manfried is so happy to be back in Alaska. Listen to a conversation he has just after he gets back. Manfried really wants to find Megan Emerick, but he's beginning to think something is up. Everything went silent and none of us know why. Manfried once again reiterates that he can pinpoint the location of the cabin if he can just get a little help.Manfried sends some more exciting information about the cabin hoping it will peak Agent Gary's interest. In August 2013 after reaching out several times Tony receives a call from Agent Gary. He informs Tony that although the information was great and it all checked out they were ordered to stop the investigation. Unfortunately no details were supplied. Tony, Al and Manfried realize they are now On Their Own and they agree to continue to work on finding the cabin themselves.
The newspaper article is once again causing big problems for Manfried. Manfried tells Tony that he wants to meet with the lady from Seward, Shiela Squires and Agent Gary who didn't know about the article. He wanted nothing to do with the agent that he felt leaked the article that truly put him in danger. At this time they are seriously looking for the cabin, but Agent Gary is still going to Gage and trying to get information from other people. Manfried doesn't understand this because only two people know where the cabin is, him and Hansen. Manfried is told he will be moved for his safety, but it doesn't happen and once again he is put in the hole and loses everything. The movie The Frozen ground was announced and it seemed to really affect the investigation. Manfried was still willing to do his part and actually said in a letter, “if he was given the proper tools he could put them within one mile of the infamous cabin,” but he had lost all faith in Agent Gary.
Tony explains that because of what happened to Megan Emerick, Mary Thill and the rest of Hansens victims that we owe it to them to cover this the right way. The whole point of this season is to complete the search for this cabin that we started in 2008, and we're going to need a lot of help with this. It has to become a Murderphoniac team effort. I believe that everyone that sticks with us and is involved will have a feeling of satisfaction like never before. After 15 years it's high time we bring Megan Emerick home. Tony and Al cover the Newspaper article that was published in Anchorage, Alaska September 28th 2008. Tony sets the record straight and clears up the many inaccuracies that were in the article. The article came as a complete surprise, and It's pretty clear that this could have put all of their lives in danger.
The ball is rolling and The National center for Missing and Exploited Children have joined the search for the Cabin where Megan Emerick is buried.Megan was last seen in Seward, Alaska on July 7, 1973. Investigators believe the serial killer Robert Hansen may have been involved in Megan's disappearance, but he denied any involvement in her case. Hansen did admit to Manfried that he brought Megan Emerick out to the Cabin, killed her and buried her there. Hansen drew a sketch of the cabin in his cell and crumpled it up and threw it away. Manfried retrieved it and sent the original to Tony. Tony made a copy and shared it with The Center for Missing and Exploited Children.Manfried sent Tony his personal Journal that covers from May 2008 to March 9th 2009. The daily entries really give you a true perspective of what it's like being in prison.
Tony has suffered with severe depression for the past 4 weeks, so he felt it was time for some light hearted comedy. Today he will share his fictional tale about a really bad day. It's titled “Fuck My Life”Tony's favorite pastime is writing and over the years his favorite topic was comedy. He often would send the criminals copies of his writings.Manfried especially loved Tony's stories. Tony shared Fuck My Life with him back in September of 2008. You will hear a short conversation clip with Manfred's reaction to the story. Tony talks about the next episode that will be posted on Monday March 27th. The National Center for Missing and Exploited Children will be joining the hunt for “The Cabin”.
I suffered a severe TBI in July 1992 when I was struck in the head by a jet ski. Very little was know back then about Traumatic Brain Injury and it was a miracle that I survived. Traumatic Brain Injury then was known as “The Silent Epidemic”.It is now March 2023, more than 30 years after my accident, and TBI is still considered The Silent Epidemic. It is my mission in life to try and shed some light on this terrible injury and to enlighten the public on the life long effects that this injury has had on me and my family.Debilitating psychiatric problems are common and equally devastating to the patient. Among them, depression, is on the top of the list, followed by anxiety and bipolar disorder. According to studies there is also an increased risk of alcohol and substance-related problems and suicidal thoughts.I'm going to share a narrative that I wrote titled “Living Life with a Brain Injury”. I hope you will listen, because it was written from my heart and is all true. It's my hope that after hearing it you will have a better understanding of what TBI does and someday we can stop calling it “The Silent Epidemic”. I'm also sharing audio of my appearance on The Doctors Show and a lecture I gave at The University Of Wisconsin about Living with a TBI and of course Serial Killers. If you want to see the presentation (which is pretty cool) check it out on our Murderphone You Tube Channel. Take care, Stay SafeAnd Remember Always Walk In The Calm after the Storm
The odyssey to find "The Cabin" continues. The search becomes very real when the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children gets involved. Manfried finally gets out of the hole and you'll hear a conversation between Tony and him describing how he handled the Hansen situation. West gets sent to an Arizona prison on Con Air and he continues to ask Tony for help on the Cabin and finding Megan Emerick and Mary Thill. Tony is busy trying to keep up with writing to the other 20 to 30 killers he's corresponding with so his time is limited. Manfried finally peaks Tony's interest and after not having success with the FBI, Tony calls the Seward Alaska police and after 40 years gets the case reopened. The National Center for Missing and Exploited Children get involved and they set up to visit Tony at his home. You will hear the very first call between Manfried and Tony back in June of 2007 as Manfried thanks Tony for his help and awaits the agents visit.
Tony reveals a letter that Manfred's attorney sent to the Parole Board in 2022 although Manfried's hearing isn't until 2025. This is not a normal occurrence and you can see that Mr. Satterberg clearly believes that Manfried acted in self defense, and that he has reformed himself and deserves parole. Tony hears about the Cabin for the first time and the fact that Hansen told him where it is. Tony and Al were heading to Alaska for a visit with Manfried when all hell breaks loose. Somehow Hansen finds out that Manfried has been talking to the F.B.I. about him, and the prison puts Manfried in The Hole for his own protection. The visit is cancelled and Manfried asks Tony for more help.
Tony and Al prepare to go to Alaska to visit Manfried and meet Robert Hansen at the Alaskan Native Dinner. However Tony had no way of knowing that things were happening that would change the course of his relationship with West.During the next several months you will see a dramatic change in the events surrounding Manfried and Hansen!Hansen went from being Bob, to being referred to as The Worm, and for good reason. Tony is going to take you through all of the stories, twists and turns and strange events that happened during his search for Megan Emerick and The Cabin where she's buried.Manfried asked for Tony's help but at this time it was just looking things up on the computer.Tony had no idea how deep this would go!
March is Brain Injury Awareness month. Tony being a TBI survivor has decided to share one of his writings discussing the despair that comes with having severe depression caused by his Brain Injury.. This is a moving and very personal account of what brain injury can cause. .
Manfried West and Robert Hansen, Nature vs Nurture: Manfried West nicknamed Robert Hansen “The Worm” This is his story.Robert Hansen grew up hating his father who constantly subjected him to ridicule and mockery, and a mother who was compliant in the harsh treatment of her son. The bullying Hansen suffered as a child shaped his hatred of women. He was painfully shy, had a stutter and severe acne that left him permanently scarred. Not receiving the attention he wanted from the attractive girls in school, Hansen grew up hating them and nursing fantasies of cruel revenge.Robert Hansen doesn't have the same kind of name recognition that someone like Ted Bundy or John Wayne Gacy does but he was one of the country's most prolific serial killers. He admitted to a spree of attacks against Alaskan women starting in 1971. Hansen's earliest victims were girls or young women, usually between ages 16 and 19 and not prostitutes. After abducting them, he would either rape them and release them with a warning, or fly them in his personal plane out into a remote location, where he would hunt them like animals and kill them.Hansen is known to have raped and assaulted over thirty Alaskan women, and to have murdered at least seventeen, ranging in age from 16 to 41.Hansen slipped through the cracks of justice many times and would have again it if wasn't for the heroics of victim Cindy Paulson and Detective Glenn Frothe.
In this episode we're going all the way back to when Manfried West met his “Cellmate from Hell” Robert Hansen for the very first time. We will hear directly from Manfried West what it was like sharing a cell with the Butcher Baker. Hansen covered up who he was and acted so nice, you would never know how bad he is because he wears the Serial Killer Mask even in prison.Manfried had to read a book about Hansen's crimes before he realized what he did. Hansen didn't talk much about killing girls, but he did talk about the cabin that has never been found, where he took Megan Emerick and Mary Thill You will hear some of the disgusting stories of the sick idiosyncrasies of a true psychopath.Hansen and Manfried were both loners, they endured similar childhoods and they both hated their fathers. The phone conversations will literally bring you into the cell with the worst serial killer in Alaskan history.
Manfried walked through life with nothing but Hatred and Anger controlling his actions. He learned and lived the criminal life style at an early age. Manfrieds mom talks about his terrible upbringing and the way he was treated by his father. The frequent beatings and constant mental abuse. His mother admits how she failed him. Manfried tells how he shot his friend Joe Volger and how he should have died when a cabin he was in burned and collapsed on him. In prison now Manfried West was at the very bottom. He hated everyone including himself and decides to commit suicide. You will hear Manfried tell the whole story in his own words, including a most unusual conclusion.
Manfred Forest West was born in 1956 in Jayville New York. He is in prison for murder 2 and other charges. Manfried grew up angry and mad at life in the backwoods of the mountains in upstate New York. They lived 4 miles from the nearest neighbors, the deep wilderness became his playground. Creeks, lakes, and old abandoned trail roads, caves and trees. His toys were sticks, old car parts, deer and bear skulls. Manfred's Father was a drunk, lived off the land hunting and trapping year-round. The family lived near a large swamp with the sounds of bullfrogs bellyaching all night, until his dad came home drunk. Then it was his turn to get beat.Manfried remembers the early morning dawn washing over the swamp, hearing the birds sing and wishing that his father was dead. He ran away at the age of 15, off to town, jail, prison. Manfried seemed to meet all the wrong people, learn all the wrong things, and he just let himself fall through the cracks of life. This story however is not how he became a criminal, but how he changed himself into the man he is today. They say people can't change, but Manfried West has proved them all wrong. This is his amazing story.
Megan Emerick went missing in 1973 from Anchorage, Alaska and is still listed as a missing person. She was believed to be a victim of serial killer Robert Hansen, and the case still remains open. This is a long and involved story that covers a lot of years of investigation. Tony and his dad Al will be covering every aspect of this investigation, from its beginnings in 2008 to where we currently are today. Remember what we've always said, the wheels of justice move slowly Tony will share Manfred's inspirational story of how he beat all the odds and has totally rehabilitated himself while in prison. He is a changed person and Tony and Manfried have developed a close friendship over the last 15 years. Manfried West spent 7 long years in a cell with Robert Hansen, Alaska's worst known serial killer, and is willing to share the stories and information he learned during his time with Hansen. With the help of Manfried West, Tony will finish the quest he started with the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children over 14 years ago. The information that West supplies will hopefully lead to discovering Hansen's secret cabin, and “Finding Megan Emerick.”
Host Tony Ciaglia a TBI survivor shares some of his writings about Life with A Brain Injury
Tony and Al take questions from Top Tier MurderphoniacsTony and Al share the audio from the very first Buy Me A Coffee Murderphonic member Zoom call. This up close and personal zoom call with Tony and his dad is a great forum for really getting to know the hosts of Murder Phone. The discussion covers general questions such as”Which season did you like the bestWho is the worst serial killer out of the 3 seasonsWhat would you like done with the Root Cellar and ScalpsWho would you like to see us cover? And Specific Questions such as: In regards to Arthur Shawcross, did he ever speak to you about his daughter? And if so, was he happy to have her find him? In regards to all of the SK's you've spoken to have any of their victims families or even their own family reached out to you at all? Understanding that you obviously can't go into details but have your letters from SK's ever helped police with cold cases and if so how many approximately?
This last episode of Season 3 will cover the sudden death of Arthur John Shawcross, Our last visit was September 8th, 9th, and 10th 2008Arthur John Shawcross died November 10th, 2008This is the final storyBefore he died he says in a letter:“You're Welcome Anthony, I have written and given you what I have never given to anyone else Anthony and that is a blow by blow of the crimes I did in Rochester. As for the other two crimes that will stay hidden. Don't even go there. Actually I have sent you many things that no one has ever gotten from me. You're a good friend Anthony.”Art tells Tony that Son of Sam David Berkowitz was in a cult and he didn't commit the murders alone. This was in 2007 and Tony and Al thought this was prison gossip and mainly bullshit. Now it's thought to be true. Tony will cover the descriptions of the last 3 victims of ShawcrossIn his last letter Art asks: “Did you get the return photos yet that I signed from your visit?”These were photos that he signed from our last visit with Arthur John Shawcross
Tony was very interested in the thought process of serial killer's in prison and poems are a great form of expression.Shawcross shared many poems with Tony and they turned out to be thoughtful, dark and at times hopeful. This episode will cover some short bits and pieces about Serial Killer Dorothea Puente Dr Stone, who put together a scale determining who is “Most Evil”Tony and Al will detail the graphic descriptions of the murders of Victim #6 Elizabeth Gibson and Victim #7 June Stotts. June Stotts was the only murder that ever affected him
“Fuck This Maggot”Keith Jesperson “The Happy Face Killer” and Arthur John Shawcross “The Genesee River Killer, Square OffIn this Episode Tony and Al are going to cover something very rare in the serial killer world. Keith Jesperson sent Arthur Shawcross a letter which was shared with me. Art was not very happy with what Keith had to say, and wrote in large letters “Fuck This Maggot” across the top of the letter. As you can only imagine the responses from Shawcross aren't very pretty. Ha haTony will be covering Shawcross' descriptions of the murders of Patty Ives and Frances Brown Victims 4 and 5. Arthur Shawcross takes the meaning of narcissism to a new level
John Douglas, The Mindhunter himself sent Arthur Shawcross a letter, who in turn sent it to TonyTony has so much respect for John Douglas and this is one of his most prized possessions. Mr Douglas' letter is handwritten and signed by him. It's on FBI stationary with the FBI Gold Badge on the top. Tony and Al are going to cover what he asked of Shawcross and Art's response that he shared in a couple of letters.Tony will also share the details of the Dorothy Keeler murder. Arthur Shawcross shared details of this murder and explains in graphic detail why and how he killed Dorothy. In the end you will find out why they have named this “The Case of the Missing Head”
The Mask Of Sanity, is a great term for what these killers use. Think about it, most all of them wore some type of mask,Ted Bundy, Ken Bianchi, Randy Kraft, John Wayne Gacy, Dorothea Puente, Wayne Elmer Henley and the list goes on including our season's subject Arthur John Shawcross. Tony will describe a visit with Arthur Shawcross and how his Mask of sanity gradually came off over the two days they spent with him.Tony and Al will share actual stories that were told to them in person by Shawcross. The mask totally comes off as Tony describes Art's story about eating a victims vagina raw. The details of the death of Shawcross' second Rochester victim Anna Marie Steffen will be shared exactly as Shawcross narrated them in a letter to Tony.
Tony points out that all the killers that he deals with are sociopaths and narcissistic, but Arthur John Shawcross is without a doubt the most arrogant killer that I've ever dealt with over the past 16 years.Tony and Al share several of the stories that Arthur wrote about in his letters that show his extreme narcissistic tendencies.Shawcross answers some of Tony's questions about eating human flesh among other atrocities that he committed. The episode ends with Shawcross writing an exact narration of how he murdered his first Rochester victim Dorothy Blackburn. It is both graphic and disgusting.
Tony is going to start with the Murders of Jack Blake and Karen Hill.Something Art never would discuss with anyone.Shawcross writes a very sarcastic letter to Tony and describes a ridiculous account of what happened to the two children, and warns Tony to never to ask about it again. In response Tony basically tells Art to go screw himself.Arthur actually apologizes and in his next letter and gives a detailed description of how June Cicero was murdered. Tony and Al discuss how Plea Bargains are abused and why Art should not have ever been released. This is a fascinating description of what happened to Shawcross when he was released and what he did during this time.Another rally good poem that Shawcross wrote about Vietnam is covered.
In this Episode Tony will cover some excerpts from Arthur's book describing his time in Vietnam. You will also hear more actual conversation with Art describing certain things that happened while he was in “Vietnam”After listening to the atrocities that Art both witnessed and committed in Vietnam, and think about how he was raised, you'll understand why Tony and Al believe that his is a classic case of nurturing a monster.Art's stories become a text book example of Narcissism 101.Tony close's with a letter from Art dated April 19th, 2007. It's the first time he heard that Shawcross was writing a book for him about his early years and Vietnam. Art obviously agrees that his book could have been titled “The Making of a Serial Killer”Art says “I know there are reasons for the way I turned out, and I believe a lot had to do with my early years.” “I'm not making excuses for what I did or what I became, I'm just trying to make sense out of all of it.”
The story you are about to hear is taken from Art's personal book that he wrote for Tony; “Growing Up In The House of Sin” or as we like to call it “The Making of a Serial Killer.” This story is a classic case of nurturing, a primer, if you will, on how to create one fucked up child and turn him into an animal. Art's family and then the military did one hell of a job creating the monster that Arthur John Shawcross became. Then they turned him loose to walk among us. This is the story of his road to hell, as told by Shawcross himself. The information we're going to present today is uncomfortable. It's a subject that is both uncomfortable to talk about and uncomfortable to hear. We're talking about incest, incest between a mother and son and incest between a brother and his sisters. This is the shocking story of Art Shawcross' childhood as told by him. These are the building blocks of who he was to become as they began to be assembled at an early age.
Tony's first mailing went out to over 40 killers all over the country, and the very first letter that came in was from Arthur John Shawcross, Alias “The Genesee River Killer”Tony only knew Art for approximately 2 years, but during that short period he opened himself up in ways Tony never imagined. This season Tony will share the story exactly as Shawcross told it. Here's a small sample of what Tony will share this season:Art wrote a detailed account of his Early Years and his time in Vietnam. (84 pages) titled “Growing Up in the House Of Sin” It could easily have been titled “The Making of a Serial Killer”. Art sent Over 100 Letters in less than two years detailing Prison life, his personal attitudes about other prisoners, woman, pen pals, collectors, his personal recipes, sex, and murder.Art sent Tony a handwritten letter from The Manhunter himself FBI profiler John Douglas along with his business card that he had sent to Art. Tony will share a letter Art sent to him with a letter he received from Keith Jesperson the Happy Face Killer. He calls him a fucking maggot!Shawcross agreed to describe his killings. Art said he had been asked many times but always said no. He describes in detail each murder. Phone conversations that have never been heard by anyone but the family. The calls will give you an idea of his narcissism and views on people and life in general. Tony and Al's descriptions of the prison visits they had with ArthurPersonal Writings, poetry and Art workShawcross tells Tony in his last letter before he died that he has given Tony what no one else has. Tony and Al will once again get you as close to a serial killer as you ever want to be.
