The Zodiac didn't just kill — he performed. In this episode of A-Z of Psychopaths, we examine the crimes and communications of the Zodiac Killer, whose letters, cyphers, and taunts terrorised Northern California in the late 1960s and continue to fascinate investigators and psychologists today. Rather than focusing on suspect speculation, this episode analyses Zodiac's behaviour through the lens of forensic psychology and criminal profiling. Using the Hare Psychopathy Checklist as a framework—while acknowledging its limitations—we explore whether Zodiac's actions are consistent with psychopathy, narcissism, sadism, or a dangerous blend of traits driven by control and attention. We also look at the role of media amplification, the psychology of anonymous offenders, and how unresolved cases evolve into cultural mythology. This is not a hunt for answers—but an examination of what the evidence actually supports.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/psycho-killer-shocking-true-crime-stories--5005712/support.This episode includes AI-generated content.
In this episode, I explore the deeper layers of spiritual sovereignty, perception, and the nature of evil with teacher and healer Sarah Elkhaldy, host of Mystery Teachings on Gaia. We go far beyond surface-level spirituality and into the real terrain—psychopathy, manipulation, spiritual warfare, and the psychological mechanics behind modern psyops.Sarah shares her unlikely entry point into awakening through conspiracy research, how that path evolved into esoteric study, and why understanding darkness is essential to true alchemy. We unpack the weaponization of compassion, the dangers of outsourcing authority, and how unexamined core wounds can make us vulnerable to manipulation. If you've ever felt overwhelmed by the state of the world, questioned your sanity while researching uncomfortable truths, or struggled to balance discernment with an open heart, this conversation will resonate. We also get into perception as the ultimate alchemical tool—how mastering it can modulate your nervous system, shift your biology, and reclaim your power from false authorities. Sarah explains why spiritual awakening requires energy, resilience, and a willingness to confront the uncomfortable realities most people avoid. This one goes deep. If you've been navigating the rabbit holes, wrestling with duality, or wondering whether evil can truly change—or whether this realm is something we graduate from rather than fix—you're going to want to hear this conversation.Watch Mystery Teachings with Sarah Elkhaldy at gaia.com/series/mystery-teachings-with-sarah-elkhaldy.DISCLAIMER: This podcast is for educational purposes only and not intended for diagnosing or treating illnesses. Are Psychopaths As Dangerous As The Legal System Believes? For decades, judicial systems in North America have been using formal assessments to identify these psychopathic individuals. Eight murders. One night. One man's shocking killing spree. In January 2009, a quiet town in Hubei Province, China, became the scene of one of the country's most shocking acts of mass violence. Xiong Zhijun — also known in court records and media reports as Xiong Zhenlin — murdered eight people in less than 15 hours, including a toddler. The killings followed a pattern of personal grievance, rejection, and rage, culminating in an attack that stunned even seasoned investigators. In this episode of The A-Z of Psychopaths, we examine:The timeline of Xiong's spree killingsHis background and psychological stressorsWhether his actions suggest clinical psychopathy, or a grievance-fuelled violent collapseThe role of capital punishment and mental health assessment in the Chinese legal systemThis is not a story of genius or mystery — it is a study in resentment, entitlement, and catastrophic violence.Listener discretion advised.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/psycho-killer-shocking-true-crime-stories--5005712/support.
She was bad to the bone – a heartless, lying serial killer – but was Aileen Wuornos insane, too?In this episode of The A–Z of Psychopaths, we examine one of the most controversial figures in modern true crime. Aileen Wuornos was convicted of murdering seven men in Florida between 1989 and 1990 and was executed in 2002 — but debate continues over how her crimes should be understood. Was Wuornos a psychopath in the clinical sense? Or was her violence the result of extreme trauma, abuse, and mental illness? Drawing on the Hare Psychopathy Checklist and Wuornos's own recorded words, this episode explores psychopathy, gendered violence, media narratives, and the dangers of simplistic labels.Listener discretion advised: this episode discusses sexual violence, murder, and execution.AcknowledgementsThis episode includes audio clips from 'Aileen: Life and Death of a Serial Killer', directed by Nick Broomfield and produced by Lafayette Films for Channel Four (1994). Suave, urbane, and prone to strangling women with their underwear – Jack Unterweger fooled high society.Jack Unterweger was once held up as a symbol of rehabilitation: a convicted murderer who became a celebrated writer, journalist, and cultural figure. Released early from prison, he was embraced by politicians, intellectuals and the media — and even invited to lecture on criminal reform. Then women began to die. Again. In this episode of The A-Z of Psychopaths, we examine how Unterweger used charm, intellect and social manipulation to deceive an entire system. We explore his crimes across Austria, Germany and the United States, and assess whether he fits the psychological profile of a psychopath — or something more unsettling still.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/psycho-killer-shocking-true-crime-stories--5005712/support.
SOLAR CULTURE FOR MEN OF THE FUTURE
Ottis Toole: the serial killer who confessed to almost everything. Ottis Toole is remembered as one of America's most disturbing serial killers — a drifter, arsonist, alleged cannibal, and prolific confessor who claimed responsibility for dozens of murders, including some he almost certainly did not commit. In this episode of The A-Z Of Psychopaths, Simon Ford examines the life and crimes of Ottis Toole, separating what is known from what is claimed. From his chaotic childhood and cognitive impairments to his close association with Henry Lee Lucas, Toole's case raises an uncomfortable question at the heart of true crime: what happens when investigators want a confession more than the truth?Using the Hare Psychopathy Checklist (PCL-R) as a framework — and with appropriate caveats — this episode explores whether Toole was a psychopath, a deeply damaged man, or a useful monster in a broken criminal justice system. This is not a story about how many people he killed. It's a story about why we believed him.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/psycho-killer-shocking-true-crime-stories--5005712/support.
Just as Klein and Grinberg distinguished two kinds of guilt, J. Rejd Meloy distinguished two kinds of pstychopathy,, primary and secondary; amd Sidney J. Blatt distinguished introjective and anaclitic depression; so we need to distinguish persecutory and reparative shame.
A trusted family GP.A reassuring bedside manner. With a liking for lethal injections.Harold Shipman is believed to have murdered more than 200 patients, making him the most prolific serial killer in British history. He didn't stalk strangers or lurk in the shadows — he operated in plain sight, protected by professional status, routine, and trust. In this episode of The A–Z of Psychopaths, Simon Ford examines how Shipman exploited authority, medical knowledge, and the assumptions of those around him — and why his crimes represent a catastrophic failure not just of one man, but of an entire system. This is a case that cannot be fully explored in five minutes — and one that deserves a much deeper, longer-form investigation.

Richard Ramirez didn't stalk victims because they were chosen. He stalked them because they were there. Armed with no fixed pattern, no consistent victim type, and a worldview steeped in chaos, Ramirez terrorised California in the mid-1980s — breaking into homes at random, switching methods, and leaving behind scenes of extraordinary violence. In this episode of The A–Z of Psychopaths, Simon Ford examines what made Ramirez so uniquely frightening: his lack of boundaries, his thrill-seeking brutality, and the unsettling truth that chance — not planning — often decided who lived and who died. Because when a killer has no rules, everyone is at risk.

What does it mean to (re)orient our entire culture around the power of love? To answer this, we have to understand the nature of love and of power and how both of these have many meanings in our culture, some of them essential to moving forward - and some of them so toxic they turn the entire concept into a poisoned cue. This week's guest is friend of the podcast, Jamie Bristow. We spoke to him back in episode #274, recorded at the start of this year, and there, we consider what it was to be a Spiritual Warrior in our times - a concept to which Jamie has given the past 16 years of his life. Jamie is someone who lives and breathes at the intersection between spirituality - specifically Buddhism - and international policy in the realm of what is still called sustainability but which must, now, be shifting towards systemic change. For eight years, he was clerk to the UK's All Party Parliamentary Group on Mindfulness and director of the associated policy institute, the Mindfulness Initiative, where he helped to introduce mindfulness to a number of other parliaments around the world. In 2023, he joined the Inner Development Goals team to lead on public narrative and policy development, emphasising the inner skills and qualities needed for a sustainable transition. His work includes influential reports such as Reconnection: Meeting the Climate Crisis Inside Out and The System Within: Addressing the inner dimension of sustainability and systems transformation. He is an associate of Life Itself, The Climate Majority Project, Mind & Life Institute and Bangor University and now is working with Professor Rebecca Henderson on an initiative which is currently called the ReWeaving Project and it's in this area that we focussed our attention. There are many ways these conversations go. Often, I'm exploring a particular body of work and am asking questions to which, broadly, I have a sense of the answer - 'tell me about [x] that is squarely in your field'. Sometimes, though, I'm talking with someone I know well enough, and where we share enough of a common grounding, that I can ask questions to which I don't know the answer. Where we can find the places where our Theories of Change meet but perhaps don't overlap, and explore the fertile, liminal spaces of uncertainty. Jamie is one of these people and this was one of those conversations - where we explored love and power and game theory and how we get from where we are, through a nexus of power that is arrayed firmly around the Dark Triad of Narcissism, Psychopathy and Sadism (and I know that's slightly different to other Dark Triads that have Raw Cunning as the third one and sadism as an afterthought, but I think the cunning is in there with Psychopathy and the Sadism is, as we're seeing around the world, an essential part of the performative power-over that the wounded egos need to tell themselves they're safe). Anyway - we explored all the things that matter - and still only scratched the surface. So Jamie will definitely be coming back for another conversation, but in the meantime, here we are, delving deep into what it is to be human, and to be striving for emergence into a new, generative, kin-centric and flourishing system at this moment of total transformation. Few ideas have gripped the public imagination quite like the idea of the “psychopath.” From Hollywood thrillers to true-crime podcasts, popular culture has led us to believe that psychopaths are dangerous and biologically distinct from the rest of us. But what if almost everything we think we know about them is wrong? In this episode, we talk with Rasmus Rosenberg Larsen, an Assistant Professor of Forensic Epistemology at the University of Toronto and author of "Psychopathy Unmasked," whose research is challenging the very foundation of psychopathy as a diagnosis. Larsen explains how the term “psychopath” is relatively new, dating to the Ted Bundy trial in the 1970s, and how TVs and movies have skewed our understanding of the “psychopath.” He discusses psychopathy tests, their impact on the criminal justice system—and what the latest science reveals about the minds we've long misunderstood. Tara breaks down the latest revelations surrounding January 6, exposing how Speaker Nancy Pelosi took responsibility for not deploying the National Guard, while the Pentagon and top military officials allegedly ignored President Trump's requests. She explores reports of FBI operatives disguised as protesters, “black bloc” agitators, and Antifa-style actors infiltrating the crowd. Tara connects the dots on how federal agencies may have strategically prevented arrests of violent individuals, raising serious questions about accountability, transparency, and the orchestration of events at the Capitol.
Murder Was The Glue That Bound ThemIan Brady and Myra Hindley are remembered as the Moors Murderers. But beyond the horror, their story forces us to ask: how does a psychopath recruit a partner, and what happens when love and loyalty become tools of murder? In this episode of Psycho Killer: Shocking True Crime Stories, Simon Ford and Jacques Morrell explore the dark synergy between Brady and Hindley — complementary fit, closed-world isolation and the momentum of co-offending.We revisit psychiatrist Jeremy Coid's insight that Brady may have been “born evil,” and hear Alan Bennett's moving account of meeting Hindley in prison as he searched for his brother Keith's body.Lastly, was Hindley coerced, complicit or both? And why does her name still provoke outrage decades after her death?Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/psycho-killer-shocking-true-crime-stories--5005712/support.

Psychopathy is often portrayed as a rare and distant phenomenon – something confined to movie villains or prison cells. Yet when psychopathy is combined with narcissism and Machiavellianism to form what psychologists call the Dark Triad, its impact becomes far more immediate. Individuals with these traits can wield disproportionate influence over our culture, institutions, and daily lives. What goes on inside their minds, and how do they shape the world around us? In this episode, Nate is joined by Dr. Reid Meloy and Dr. Nancy McWilliams to explore the inner workings of the Dark Triad personality traits and their manifestation in modern culture. Together, they trace the evolutionary roots of these traits, examine the predatory ways Dark Triad individuals engage with others, and consider the profound implications for leadership, power, and governance. Ultimately, they emphasize the importance of truth and community when navigating the complexities of human behavior. Why are Dark Triad individuals more likely to occupy positions of power? How do current cultural norms and expectations actually incentivize Dark Triad tendencies, including in governance? Most importantly, how can reorienting towards collective communication and cooperation help create guardrails against these ‘darker angels' of humanity? (Conversation recorded on July 22nd, 2025) About Nancy McWilliams: Dr. Nancy McWilliams, Ph.D., ABPP, is a distinguished psychoanalyst, author, and educator internationally recognized for her contributions to the field of personality theory and psychodynamic diagnosis. She is Professor Emerita at the Graduate School of Applied and Professional Psychology at Rutgers. Her published work addresses the clinical and cultural relevance of language in diagnosing complex personality patterns, including narcissistic and psychopathic structures, and she has written on the psychology of altruism, moral development, and the enduring role of psychoanalytic thinking in understanding human nature. About Reid Meloy: Dr. J. Reid Meloy, Ph.D., ABPP, is a board-certified forensic psychologist, former clinical professor of psychiatry at the University of California, San Diego School of Medicine, and a widely cited authority on psychopathy, personality disorders, and targeted violence. Dr. Meloy has served as a consultant, researcher, and trainer for numerous law enforcement, intelligence, and corporate security agencies around the world. He is the author or editor of more than 200 peer-reviewed publications and several seminal books, including The Psychopathic Mind, International Handbook of Threat Assessment, and Violent Attachments. What if stepping into a voting booth is less about freedom and more about forcing your will on your neighbor? Craig sits down with writer Jeb Smith to wrestle with a question many Christians and libertarians rarely stop to ask: Is voting consistent with the values we claim to hold? Jeb, author of Is Libertarianism Consistent with Voting?, argues that casting a ballot contradicts the very heart of libertarian “live and let live” principles. And for Christians, the stakes are even higher. Jesus never told us to hand power over our neighbors to Caesar. He called us to serve, not to rule. The conversation digs into how politics twists even kind and gentle people into something unrecognizable, why voting legitimizes a corrupt system built on coercion, and how stepping away from political participation might actually free us to love our neighbors better. As Jeb puts it, “Since I stopped voting, I get along with people much better, even those with completely different political opinions.” This isn't just another debate about left vs. right. It's a challenge to reimagine what it means to follow Christ in a world obsessed with power. Tune in, and ask yourself honestly: are you serving Christ when you pull that lever, or are you just baptizing Caesar's game with Christian language?
Recent hours have seen too much Israeli depravity to write about, including an assassination strike in Qatar to sabotage peace talks, a second drone attack on the Global Sumud Flotilla, and a Guardian article featuring an IDF sniper who discussed killing civilians like a trophy hunter talking about game animals. Osama Bin Laden masterminded 9/11, evaded the world's most powerful armies, and reshaped global politics. But who was he, really? In this second episode of Psycho Killer: Shocking True Crime Stories, Simon Ford and Jacques Morrell go beyond the headlines to explore Bin Laden's psychology — from fugitive years and obsessive micromanagement to the chilling revelations in the Abbottabad files.Using the Comprehensive Assessment of Psychopathic Personality (CAPP), we ask: Was Bin Laden a prophet, a prisoner of his own ideology, or a psychopath? We examine his messianic self-image, emotional detachment, and controlling dominance, alongside his death in Abbottabad and the fractured legacy of al-Qaeda and ISIS.This is not just the story of one man, but of the world he made — and the fear, violence, and divisions that still echo today. Was Osama Bin Laden mad, bad, or something far more dangerous? This month marks 24 years since the 9/11 attacks on America — the deadliest terror strike since Pearl Harbour. To mark the anniversary, Psycho Killer investigates the rise and fall of Osama Bin Laden. Was he a religious zealot, a freedom fighter, or a psychopath? Perhaps all three.Using the Hare Psychopathy Checklist (PCL-R) and the Comprehensive Assessment of Psychopathic Personality (CAPP), Simon Ford and Jacques Morrell apply two clinical tools to Bin Laden's life and legacy. The result? More than one conclusion — and a portrait of a man whose blend of belief, power, and manipulation shaped the world we live in today.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/psycho-killer-shocking-true-crime-stories--5005712/support.
Air Date 8/16/2025 There's the old Douglas Adams quote stating that, "Anyone who is capable of getting themselves made President should on no account be allowed to do the job" which is a good general rule to live by. But then there are the real baddies, those would-be leaders who possess one or more of the dark triad of traits that spells real doom for the societies that elevate them to power: narcissism, psychopathy, and machiavellianism. Today we compare and contrast Donald Trump, Vladimir Putin, and Benjamin Netanyahu. Xi Jinping also fits nicely on this list as an honorable mention but happens to not be part of the focus today. But his book, Anatomy of a Con Artist, is just dead on.Johnathan shares how he got conned out of nearly $100,000 by someone posing as an Irish heiress. After being conned out of nearly $100,000 by someone posing as an Irish heiress, Walton went public, brought his scammer to justice, and began investigating other cases.Together, they unpack how emotion—not intellect—is the con artist's favorite tool, and how even smart, skeptical people can be taken in. Walton explains the 14 red flags every scammer throws up, why victims rarely report what happened, and how shame and silence help cons thrive.Plus: the untold story of Walton's family losing millions to a Jamaican Ponzi scheme, how Satanists helped him track a fugitive scammer, and why AI will never replace the twisted brilliance of the human con. What You'll Learn:How professional con artists emotionally manipulate even intelligent peopleThe 14 red flags common to nearly every scamWhy victims often stay silent—and how scammers exploit shameHow “beak-wetting” creates false trust in investment scamsWhy AI can't replicate the improvisational storytelling of real-world con artistsTimestamped Chapters:[00:00] A con artist doesn't outsmart you—they outfeel you[01:00] James introduces Johnathan Walton and his work[02:00] Behind the HBO show “Wahl Street” and producing during COVID[04:00] AI in storytelling: potential and limitations[07:00] Johnathan's $100K con: the fake Irish heiress and inheritance scam[10:00] Red Flag: TMI—“too much information” and the psychology behind it[14:00] The trap of emotional vulnerability[17:00] How scammers build false intimacy[20:00] Johnathan's early career and his resilience to shame[24:00] How she drained him slowly: death by a thousand cuts[25:00] The first lie that blew everything open[28:00] Uncovering her global scams and getting her arrested[30:00] Scamming Satanists and extradition to Northern Ireland[32:00] Psychopathy vs. regular criminals: how con artists differ[34:00] Why she targeted him: the do-gooder trap[36:00] Breaking down the red flags from his book[41:00] Ponzi schemes and beak-wetting in his own family[47:00] Wealthy victims who never go public[49:00] The story of NFL QB Eric Kramer and the con-woman wife[52:00] Talking victims out of suicide[53:00] Johnathan's own mother was conned—by a family friend[55:00] The isolation technique and divide-and-conquer[57:00] How to protect yourself: background checks and gut checks[59:00] Spotting con artists in real life[01:01:00] Cocktail party con: the OnlyFans couple from Arizona[01:02:00] Final thoughts and how to follow Johnathan's workAdditional Resources with Working Links:Book: Anatomy of a Con Artist by Johnathan Walton Available on Apple Books: Anatomy of a Con Artist Also listed on Penguin Random House: Anatomy of a Con ArtistPodcast: Queen of the Con by Johnathan Walton On Apple Podcasts: Queen of the Con (Apple Podcasts)Podcast: Cocaine Air by Johnathan Walton On Apple Podcasts: Cocaine Air (Apple Podcasts)Movie: Sharper (Neo-noir thriller) streaming on Apple TV+ Watch directly on Apple TV+: Sharper (Apple TV+) About the film and release details: Sharper (Wikipedia page)Today's Advertisers:Secure your online data TODAY by visiting ExpressVPN.com/ALTUCHERElevate your workspace with UPLIFT Desk. Did James Craig Murder Angela Due To Narcissistic Collapse & Delusional Thinking? In this culminating fourth episode of "Unmasking the Mind of a Murderer," licensed psychotherapist Shavaun Scott provides a forensic-level breakdown of James Craig, the Colorado dentist accused of killing his wife. Joined by Hidden Killers Host Tony Brueski, this episode aims to construct a comprehensive psychological profile, shedding light on what drives individuals like Craig and crucial lessons for the public. If James Craig were to sit in a psychotherapist's office, what clinical indicators would be paramount? We explore the hypothetical diagnostic evaluation: Is this a clear case of Narcissistic Personality Disorder, Psychopathy, or a complex mixture of both? The discussion also considers the potential coexistence of other disorders, such as sex addiction or delusional disorder. Was this murder a response to a narcissistic collapse—a desperate attempt to regain control amidst financial ruin and a failing marriage? Could someone truly believe they can kill their way into a better life? This episode delves into how high-functioning predators like Craig manage to hide in plain sight. What can society learn from these "wolves in white coats" who charm and deceive? Are we culturally conditioned to disbelieve charming perpetrators, even when red flags appear? Finally, we offer a critical final assessment of societal risk. What makes someone like James Craig dangerous long before they commit murder? What does a psychotherapist most want the public to understand about individuals capable of such heinous acts, and what are the crucial signs that should never be ignored? This is an essential guide to protecting yourself from emotional predators. #JamesCraig #PsychologicalDiagnosis #NarcissisticPersonalityDisorder #Psychopathy #ForensicPsychology #HiddenKillers #TrueCrimeInsights #PredatorAwareness #MentalHealth #SocietalRisk Want to comment and watch this podcast as a video? Why is American culture so fascinated with psychopathic people and true crime stories? Why don't billionaires give more? What makes some people so generous that they'd undergo surgery to donate an organ to a complete stranger? These are the kinds of questions that Abigail Marsh, a professor of psychology and neuroscience at Georgetown University, studies. Chris and Abigail discuss the brain differences between extreme altruists and psychopathic individuals, why psychopathic traits do not necessarily correlate with aggression, how parents can support children with behavioral issues, and what we can all do to train ourselves to be more altruistic.FollowHost: Chris Duffy (Instagram: @chrisiduffy | chrisduffycomedy.com)Guest: Abigail Marsh PhD (LinkedIn: @abigail-marsh) Linksabigailmarsh.com/disordersofaggression.orgBookshop.org: The Fear FactorTED Talk: Why some people are more altruistic than othersSubscribe to TED Instagram: @tedYouTube: @TEDTikTok: @tedtoksLinkedIn: @ted-conferencesWebsite: ted.comPodcasts: ted.com/podcastsFor the full text transcript, visit go.ted.com/BHTranscriptsWant to help shape TED's shows going forward?
