On this episode of the SessionWell Podcast, Adam Luke LMFT and Judy Yen LMFT interview Talia Bombola LMFT. Talia Bombola is known as the Confidence and Assertiveness Specialist™. She is the CEO, Owner and Founder of Newport Counseling Center for Individual, Couples and Family, Therapy Inc. and works as an LMFT + Certified Psychodynamic Therapist. She is also the CEO, Owner and Founder of Coaching with Talia, Inc. where she is a Life Coach/Mindset Mentor. Talia spends time on today's episode outlining not only her clinical perspective when it comes to self-worth but some of those cathartic and clinical interventions that she uses with clients to help maximize her clients potential for joy, relationships and connection. As Talia defines it, self-worth is the internal sense of being good enough and worthy of love and belonging from others. Human beings have inherent worth and oftentimes due to life events or interactions with others, we question that worth. Talia incorporates IFS/Parts Work + Attachment Theory into her Psychodynamic/Psychoanalytic practice to inspire others to realize they can change their lives and recreate narratives about themselves that are much more positive. Talia strives to serve as a reminder to keep your self-worth high and most everything else in life will fall into place accordingly. Talia also has a new membership site and eCourse that builds upon what is discussed in today's podcast. Her eCourse helps give language to self-development terms. Bold and passionate, Vanessa Cardin is as real as you can get. She is an Associate Marriage and Family Therapist, Co-Founder of Cozy, Director of Sponsorship for OC-CAMFT, and the Training Facilitator at Bloom Foundation. In all of these roles, showing up as your authentic self is necessary. On this podcast, she discusses the topic of how to navigate our own authenticity in the therapy space. What does it look like to be authentic with your clients? What is the difference between self disclosure and being authentic? As therapists, we are often encouraged to not self disclose, but this at times may hinder us from creating a genuine relationship with our clients. Some clients may want to feel like they are talking to someone “real” rather than just a “professional” because true human connection is what heals us.    Vanessa Cardin AMFT In private practice, Co Founder of Cozy  Director of Sponsorship for OC-CAMFT and Contractor for Bloom Foundation    Music Credit: Energetic Upbeat by WinnieTheMoog Link: https://filmmusic.io/song/6033-energetic-upbeat License: https://filmmusic.io/standard-license

While, at face value, this may not sound like anything to rave about or go running after, true vulnerability has the great potential of opening us up to being more of who we authentically are. Vulnerability allows us to take the heavy masks off and gives us the freedom to connect with ourselves and others in more meaningful ways.

I am really passionate about church and mental health being two separate groups. I believe part of the healing is the body soul and mind all together , and we do a poor job as therapist connecting to the spiritual and as churches connecting to the mind.  I believe we have become a culture that avoids pain therefore we avoid being vulnerable with one another and this disconnect in relational connection and empathy toward one another is creating a depressed and anxious community. I would love to discuss how techniques therapist use can help and be useful for non therapist and people in church (life groups Etc.)

Pollock and Van Reken define a Third Culture Kid (TCK) as a person who has spent a considerable amount of their formative developmental period outside their birth country or culture due to their parents’ working outside of the country of origin (Pollock & Van Reken, 2001; Choi & Luke, 2011; Melles & Frey, 2014). Adults who lived in these circumstances are referred to as Adult Third Culture Kids (ATCK’s) (Melles & Frey, 2014). As a result of their experiences, young ATCK’s have difficulty fully identifying with any one culture and may experience multiple challenges in forming adult relationships upon repatriating to their culture or country of origin (Choi & Luke, 2011). A review of the literature on TCK’s and ATCK’s shows little research has been done in the area of relationships after repatriation. I am interested in understanding the lived experience of TCKs so that we can better address the issues with repatriation.
