The Sneople are just three queer nerds who grew up at the beginning of the digital era of fandom and are here to offer a fresh take on what movies mean to them, what it means to be represented in cinema as a queer person and who should win Best Picture this year.

Long delayed but also long in the making, this week the Sneople are finally doing a David Lynch memorial episode! Helena and Matty go a little off the deep end this episode (as they do every episode they're left to their own devices), covering Mulholland Drive, Blue Velvet, Twin Peaks, Eraserhead, Elephant Man, Dune (obviously) and so so much more. Warning, this episode is full of spoilers/discussion of a variety of Lynch films (though we avoid Twin Peaks spoilers for the most part) - if you wanna avoid that, come back at a later date. It's okay! We'll wait. Thanks David - we'll be appreciating your work for years and years to come. XOXO to eraserhead baby, we love you little angel

This week is a (sort of?) somber episode, beloved listeners - we've recorded an homage to the life and career of Val Kilmer, an actor who had a big impact on all of the Sneople. From Top Gun to Batman Forever, Willow to Tombstone, and of course Heat to Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, the Sneople go through several films featuring Val Kilmer and the many many highlights in his work. Like any of our in memoriam episodes, it's tricky writing our normal jokey summaries without feeling odd about it, so it's time to be genuine for three seconds - he was a great actor who did some incredible work, and none of us would be who we are today without Kiss Kiss Bang Bang specifically. Thanks, Val. Unrelated, but still sincere - apologies for the delayed episode! We'll have another one out next week per our usual schedule.

It's the most wonderful time of the year, beloved listeners - after weeks of waiting with baited breath, it's finally time for this year's Helena Awards! For those who don't know, this beautiful yearly tradition has the Sneople running through a full list of categories both familiar and unique, old and new: from Best Actress and Best Picture to Tex Avery Awooga Wolf Award l and Stupidest Film (Affectionate), the Helena Awards has it all. It is, per usual, the highest of high notes to close out awards season on, and we are thrilled as always to host it. It's also shorter than watching the actual Oscars AND there's no ads so really, what do you have to lose? For those who wish to view the Helena Awards document, you can join the Infinity Break discord at bit.ly/InfinityTalks - it will be shared there in the Sneople channel! Just in case you wanted to revel in the glorious document formatting which, honestly, why wouldn't you?

Due to the Wicked Curse (the curse that breaks the podcast when we talk about Wicked the movie for too long). Thankfully, we were able to push through to present to you - our extremely belated Oscars episode! First and foremost, it's time for a very long What We Sneep spanning back into (checks notes) late 2024. We got Christmas movies, we got movies that we just happened to see on Christmas, we have Helena frantically trying to catch up on Academy Award noms, we have Firefly for some reason, and basically any other type of movie you can possibly imagine. After that, we go through the Oscar noms from Best Picture down, and Helena puts in their guesses for what will win, fantasy football style. Yes, the Oscars have already happened. It's fine. This just means you get to do the math on how good Helena's guesses were! The next episode should be on our regular schedule (barring something happening due to the Wicked Curse), and will be our favorite awards show, The Helena Awards! However, if you want to double check on timing or even just bug us about um. whatever? Then you can find us and any Sneople updates on the Infinity Break discord, bit.ly/InfinityTalks!

Happy Snanniversary, beloved listeners!! We're back after our long break and celebrating our FIVE YEAR (???) anniversary with another film commentary, so load up your DVDs or what have you - it's time for a watch-along of National Treasure 2: Book of Secrets! Despite the massive What We Sneep backlog, we skip that segment to get right into the thrilling and extremely confusing action of National Treasure 2. During the process of the film, many questions come up: why is everyone and their mom in this film? What does the Lincoln Assassination have to do with any of this? Is Bruce Greenwood's version of the president single? Only some of these questions are answered, and more continue to pile up even until the credits roll - you'll have to listen to find out more. Or ask us, I guess, but then you would miss out on National Treasure 2 and no one wants that. Probably. Also in the process of uploading this episode, it was discovered that Mount Vernon has a National Treasure themed tour, which was extremely exciting until we found out the cellar is closed for renovations right now. Can't win ‘em all.

The end of 2024 is fast approaching, beloved listeners, and with it comes both the return of Helena and a rush of new films just in time for the holiday season. This week, the Sneople are starting Awards Season Talk! Helena's got a lot to catch up on RE What We Sneeped, but after that Ezra joins them to talk about all the latest and greatest (?) hits of the season - this was going to be an episode just about Conclave, but is it really a Sneople episode without getting distracted? In this case, the Sneople veer off into talk about the upcoming awards season, what's likely up for awards this year, and how winning an Oscar can impact a career. Warning: this episode does have some spoilers for Conclave, so if you want to go in blind you may want to save this one for a later date! This is also our last episode of the year! We'll be back mid-January, for more inevitable Awards Season Talk. Thank you for another lovely year, and we're excited to spend the next one with all y'all! Welcome back, beloved listeners! This week we're back after a little break with a new guest - Johnny Rinaldo! You know, the person who makes our incredible intro and outro music? Yeah. AND he's here to talk about one of his favorite shows of all time - Scavengers Reign! After a LOT of off topic chatter about the new Dragon Age game and who we're romancing, we finally get back on track with the plot of Scavengers Reign for those who have yet to see it or haven't watched it in a bit. From there, there's a dissertation on the characters we hated the most (and why we found them interesting anyway), the beauty of both the visuals and the storytelling, and why we are so incredibly desperate for a season two. Also, there's some explanations as to why we can't watch shows we care about while we're eating. That's our designated Youtube time. They don't linger too long on that Sisyphean task, however, because there is simply too much to cover: Interview with a Vampire, Being Human, Twilight, and (obviously) Buffy the Vampire Slayer to name just a few. John Carpenter's extremely famous and beloved film Vampires may or may not come up too. Unclear. We have a new game for you this week, beloved listeners! Ben from Syndicated with Lesley and Ben returns to the show to play a Chaos in Stereo classic with us - Is It More Like? The rules of the game are simple: in each round, one of the hosts thinks of a movie, and the other hosts each take turns trying to guess said film by asking if it's more like one movie or a different one - for example, The Wickerman (1973) or John Wick (2014). The host being asked will say which movie is more like the one they're thinking of, and the guessing continues until the guessers figure out the movie! There are additional smaller rules mentioned in episode as well, but that's the basic premise. Note: This episode is missing some initial audio, so it opens with an explanation as well as the rules of the game instead of the normal Sneople opener. Who knows?? Someday,…..the full episode may be recovered…………………. Also in this episode Matty says that I Know What You Did Last Summer came out in 1977 instead of 1997 but they want everyone to know that was a verbal fumble and they promise they knew the correct year the whole time, they swear.

There is, as you may have guessed, a non zero amount of discussion about the Saw movies, and less thorns about the first one then you may expect. Thrilling news, beloved listeners! We have a very special guest this episode - Lys (@daunt_lys on twitter) is on to discuss alien movies with us! After clarifying that this is, in fact, an episode about the genre of alien movies rather than the Alien franchise and also discussing the horrors of the Borderlands movie, the crew gets into the meat of alien movies. By that, we of course mean that all three of them get deeply distracted by Pennywise lore to the point where Ezra's side of the call crashes, and Lys desperately tries to remember a very weird Nic Cage alien movie they saw. Eventually, they all talk Alien (the franchise) and alien (the concept) movies enough that, for the first time in Sneople history, Matty and Ezra gleefully receive Pop Culture Homework in the form of some recommendations from Lys, who may or may not be handing out stickers depending on the results of said homework. Yay! I, the publisher of this episode, am only sort of sorry for the episode picture. If you're podcasting via a service that doesn't show the picture, good news! This episode opens with a brief review of the (fascinating? unhinged?) plot of The Da Vinci Code for those who haven't seen the film or read the book - Matty fell into that category before seeing this movie for the show and boy howdy, they were not ready for the twists this movie had in store. From there, the Sneople dive deep into a discussion on the what, the why, and the what the hell was all that of this movie, before moving onto Dracula 2000, another equally weird film they covered in Episode 62. Lots of crosses and God Talk here folks. Be forewarned. I know we barely talked about Van Helsing this episode but let's be honest, we've talked about that movie enough to last a lifetime. Per any good Remake Rumble episode, the Sneople spend a little time explaining the basic premise of the films before diving headfirst into the differences, what they like or dislike about each, and what makes each of these movies like, SO gay. This doesn't even cover the fact that there is some very serious discussion on how attractive Russell Crowe is in the remake - it didn't come up in ep, but Glenn Ford as Ben Wade? ALSO distressingly attractive, just saying. Obviously you'll have to listen to hear the winner of this remake rumble, but we'll say this - it's a lot closer than you might think. On a more serious note, apologies for the delay in releasing this episode! With categories comes lists featuring many of the Sneople's summer faves, such as Jaws, Twister, and National Treasure, a movie duology they've somehow never done an episode on. There's of course also plenty of discussion of what makes summer movies appealing all year round, and the woes of having to get off a vinyl seat when you're wearing shorts and it's hot out. After their new accidental segment, Concert Talk, Matty gives a brief summary of all three films (more or less), as well as the reasoning behind pairing the three together - spoiler, its mostly how Fury Road and Escape from New York connect to Mad Max 2. From asshole protags to apocalyptic wastelands to Kurt Russell's marker tattoo and everything in-between (including Bruce Spence, who loves to be in a sequel), the Sneople compare and contrast these three films and why they work well together. There's also a fair amount of Mad Max: Beyond Thunderdome affection and Waterworld dunking, if that's your jam. Also Matty forgot to mention this in the episode, but they noticed during their most recent Fury Road rewatch that they drive their cars the American Way (with the driver sitting on the left) in that movie vs the previous three movies, where they all drive the Australian Way (ie with the driver sitting on the right). It's been haunting Matty ever since. Why did it take them so long to notice? Was the change because it was produced by an American company? What does George Miller have to say about this? After catching up with Ben on what he's Sneeped recently, our trio dive in to trailers they've recently seen, ones they remember from their childhood, and trends they both like and dislike. There's also a decent amount of discussion on why trailers are the way they are today (negative), and why they find it hard to care about the trailers when they sit down in the theater these days. There is, shockingly, more than a little bit of getting off topic but to be fair, the group remembered that not everyone knows who Kit Fisto is and that caused a mild ruckus. Starting off with a very angry rant about The Crow (1994) remake and overall thoughts about what makes a good/thoughtful remake, the Sneople shift to talking reboots and why they never seem to stick the landing - how else do you explain the fact that there was a WHOLE GHOSTBUSTERS LEGACY REBOOT and somehow at least one of the Sneople hadn't even heard about it until the second movie dropped?? From there they wander into getting distracted by Ghostbusters (and jukebox?) lore before returning to the issue at hand - why a Night of the Hunter remake, especially one without clear directorial vision, is unnecessary, even decades later. If you couldn't tell, there's a lot of impassioned speeches in this episode. Matty and Helena also maybe spend a decent amount of time referencing the commentary for The Thing, but in their defense both of them just watched it and it's very fun commentary, so what else are they supposed to do? Also John Carpenter, if you ever want to hang and play video games together, this is an open invite to do that whenever.

Hello beloved listeners, and welcome to the 100th episode of Sneople at the Movies!! We're so glad to be celebrating such an incredible milestone with y'all, and we're doing so by taking a break from our normal format. For this episode, we're trying something new while going back to our very earliest days. Instead of our normal talk show, we spend this episode doing a commentary track for the movie we made our first episode about and pitched Sneople with - Van Helsing (2004)! You can use this episode to watch a goofy 00's fantasy action adventure movie along with us - we had a blast making this episode, and we hope you have a blast watching along with us. As a reminder, you can also listen to our pitch episode by supporting our Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/InfinityBreak! Beyond that, we also want to thank you for listening to our show for 100 episodes. We've loved making it, and we hope you've loved listening to it.

It's a bit late in the year to realize we didn't do an ep for this year's Oscars, beloved listeners, but don't worry! This week, to make up for it, we're talking about the 75th Academy Awards instead, covering movies that came out in 2002! As per most Oscars related episodes, there is a little bit of complaining about what the Academy Awards are like these days, but the Sneople quickly move on to the award winners of 2002 and the various nominees. This includes Chicago and it's MANY wins, Adrian Brody becoming the youngest actor at the time to win Best Actor, and Gangs of New York having 10 noms with…no wins. This was also the year Two Towers came out so, you know. Lots to discuss there. We end this ep (and ep description) getting excited for the Sneople after this one — it's our 100TH EPISODE!! We're stoked to finally celebrate our first big milestone with y'all (:

Thrilling news, beloved listeners - Helena is back, and we're spending her returning ep catching up on all the movies she's watched in her absence! After a brief explanation of where exactly Helena has been for the past couple of eps (theater!), we delve into Helena's extensive “What We Sneep” list. This covers everything from a wide variety of horror films, rewatches of the hits of the 80's, 90's and more, and ending with a group discussion of Barbie! The Sneople also ended up talking about movie musicals, the Good Omens show, and Doctor Who - none of which is probably surprising. I guess we also talk about what Matty and Ezra watched/did this ep but as expected: there was mostly a lot of video games involved.

Helena is still out of office, which means Matty and Ezra have once again been left to their very nerdy devices. Get ready for an episode a long time coming, beloved listeners: Video Game Movies! From horror to the horrible and everything in between, Matty and Ezra talk about what makes video games difficult to translate to film, why video game movies are becoming more popular as time goes on, and . They then talk about the ones they've specifically seen and liked (even if they weren't very good), and dig through a long and interesting list of movies to come. There is also a little bit teasing for the Resident Evil movie marathon Matty had two summers ago - yes maybe 9 movies over 4 days is “a lot”, but who HASN'T done it? Note from Matty: please don't roast me for my Silent Hill movie opinions, I don't fully agree with them listening back and in my defense I was very sleepy when I recorded this ep. I do still love Pyramid Head though (:

Excellent news, beloved listeners! We have a new kind of episode to present to you this week: Remake Rumble, where we pit an original film against it's remake to see which is better. We're going to open this new episode format with a fun pair of films - John Carpenter's Assault on Precinct 13 (1976) and it's 2005 remake! Matty and Ezra start by describing the plots of the films, so if you haven't seen them yet they have you covered! Additionally, if you haven't seen them yet and want to see one or both of them without spoilers, we recommend doing that first. From there, they start their deep dive into the differences, what they liked and what they didn't like about both films, and overall explain why they picked their winner of this rumble (the answer may not surprise you). As we mention in the episode, we do have a twitter but with twitter as it is, you may not want to reach out to us there. If you want to join the Infinity Break fan discord instead, you can go to bit.ly/InfinityTalk! That's where we watch the monthly Sneople Movie nights as well.

The gang is all together again, and they're stoked to talk a significant year in film this week - 1999! They cover the movies they love, they ones they forgot about, the movies that lasted, and the ones that were hits at the time and ended up being forgotten. They also talk about the actors that had their careers start in ‘99, several of which were surprising to them! This episode also features a fun section about uh (checks notes) when Matty and Helena, notable 90's kids, got their glasses/contacts and how Matty realizing exactly why they sat at the front of the theater for Phantom Menace. This episode was inspired by the book “Best. Movie. Year. Ever.: How 1999 Blew Up the Big Screen” by Brian Raftery - it's come up a couple of times on Sneople before, and we finally decided to just commit to a full ep on the topic!

Sorry for the delay, beloved listeners, and sorry again that we are missing another Sneople on this ep (Matty this time), but thrilled to announce the topic is a fun one worth waiting for - we're talking color and Technicolor this week! Starting off with the movie that inspired the topic (Ladyhawke (1985)), the Sneople move onto Technicolor film and why they enjoy it/what makes it so impressive. From there, they move onto color as a whole and some of their uses of color in film. Helena also discusses her decades project in more detail and the duo return to Ladyhawke at the end to talk about the careers of the three main actors - Matthew Broderick, Rutger Hauer, and Michelle Pfeiffer! This is an open call to all fic writers to get started on making more Ladyhawke AUs - please and thank you!

No Ezra this week, beloved listeners, but in exchange we have a much anticipated (by us) episode to share - the return of Ben Hamlin to talk the Scream series! After a robust What We Sneep (per usual), we delve right into what we love about the series and what drew us into the Scream movies in the first place. From there, we sidetrack into Scream 5+6 and what we….don't like about the new entries in the series, especially in comparison to the older films. The episode wraps up on a more positive note with us all listing us our favorite moments from the series. We do spend the whole episode sounding like Randy, but that's probably not surprising. Dewey if you read this we're free (next?) Thursday night and would like to hang out. Please respond to this and then hang out with us on Thursday night when we're free.

As you are likely aware, the Sneople took quite a long break before their last episode - as such, they have seen quite a few things recently and it's time for yet another What We Sneep ep to cover them all! Starting with Ezra's smaller group of films (and also a lot of Elder Scrolls talk), they then movie into Matty and Helena's lists, which were, in turn, 30 and 33 movies long. The three of them had many movies on two or more of their lists, including Evil Dead, Jesus Christ Superstar, Dungeons and Dragons: Honor among Thieves, Star Trek: First Contact, Heat, The Social Network, as well as several others they watched alone. They're also only a little sorry that they talked about Phantom of the Opera (a production all three of them watched together) for 20 minutes - you knew what you were getting into when you started listening to this show. The Star Wars joke for an episode title was mostly an accident - it was picked before we realized this ep would be coming out on May the Fourth. That just means it was the will of the Force, right?

Welcome home, beloved listeners! After a month and a half long unexpected hiatus (oops?), Sneople has returned with an episode about a banger of a film that they discussed briefly on the last ep - Lair of the White Worm! Skipping What We Sneep this week (they're going to do a whole what we sneep episode next time), they get right into trying desperately to explain the plot of the film, but get easily sidetracked by talking about the effects as well as how truly bizarre the movie is as a whole. After also discussing how good looking everyone is and getting distracted again talking about Shakespeare (shocking), they finally get back to the plot and any warnings you'll want to be aware of before getting into this film. They highly recommend giving it a go anyway - it's so weird, even the scary stuff barely seems to register. Also, they talk about the monthly Sneople movie nights happening on the Infinity Break discord! If you want to vote on the monthly movie pick, you'll have to follow the IB patreon (which also has LOTS of sneople extra content - https://www.patreon.com/InfinityBreak) but if you just want to join us for the film itself, join our discord! (https://discord.gg/F4u5nytrk3) Fun fact: this ep is exactly as long as the movie itself (give or take a few seconds)! Start them at the same time for a knock off commentary track.

There's no Ezra this week, beloved listeners, so left to their own devices Matty and Helena are choosing to dive into a topic relevant to the films they've been watching recently: goopy horror! Though they start with goopy horror of the Return of the Living Dead and (extremely hilarious) Doom (2005) kind, topics end up going all over the place from interesting years in film, to the shifts in M. Night Shyamalan's career, to allowing for more flexible film adaptations before going back around to end where they began with Scanners, the Fly, and Crash. And maybe they are weird themselves for having no threshold for the weird and nasty….but they have the Ezra seal of approval, so they refuse to feel bad about it.

For this week, we're returning to an old favorite episode topic to give you some film recs for these chilly nights: a full episode of What We Sneep! Between the three of them, they cover Black Sails, Triplets of Belleville, Yona of the Dawn, Crimes of the Future, Saved!, and Return of the Jedi as seen in theaters, as well as many more. Most notably, Matty finally saw the Exorcist and Ezra finally saw Everything Everywhere All at Once which they and Helena get to talk a bunch about! They also talk about the National Treasure movies again. You know what you signed up for with podcast.

The Sneople are returning to an old favorite topic this week, beloved listeners - defending the bad films we love and the good movies that get too much flack! Between Brothers Grimm (2005), Doom (also from 2005), Across the Universe (2007), National Treasure (2004 - a trend here, maybe?), they have plenty of films to discuss and lovingly rag on. There's also a fistful of good movies that get a bad rap to talk about - Helena finally watched Saw 1, and Matty has been holding onto their Saw Opinions for months. The Sneople also get into why these kinds of goofy movies don't seem to come out much anymore, and why that's such a shame. As always, they would love to hear about your favorite Bad-Good movies - don't forgot you can always email them at sneopleatthemovies@gmail.com or hit them up on twitter @people_snake!
