Saddle up—it's Book Club Month on So Many Sequels, and this week, we're diving into Elmore Leonard's gritty Western adaptation, 3:10 to Yuma (2007). Featuring powerhouse performances from Christian Bale and Russell Crowe, this film offers more than gunfights—it's a tense exploration of honor, fatherhood, and redemption. We explore the film's themes of masculinity in crisis, the dynamic between Dan Evans and Ben Wade, and the surprising emotional core at the heart of this modern Western. Is this one of the best genre remakes of the 2000s? Does the short story adaptation expand or stretch too far? And how does the ending compare to Leonard's original vision?Whether you're a Western fan or a curious newcomer, this one's worth the ride.
In this episode, we talk with Jenny Risner-Wade, owner and chocolate maker at Yellow Bird Chocolate, and her husband, Ben Wade, co-founder and brewer at Albion Malleable Brewing Company, both in Albion, Michigan. When a chocolate maker and a brewer share a home and a life, ideas can flow back and forth and lead to unique collaborations. In this case, collaborations have included Unnecessary Evil, an Imperial Milk Stout brewed with cocoa powder, cacao husks, and cacao nibs, a chocolate bar made with nibs used in the beer, a number of beer-infused truffles, and an ice cream beer float with beer-infused chocolate shavings.Bean to Barstool host David Nilsen recently sat down with Jenny and Ben to talk about the collaborations between Yellow Bird and Albion Malleable, and the creative opportunities provided by having these businesses run side by side. We're back, beloved listeners, and we're ringing the imaginary boxing match bell in celebration of this week's Remake Rumble: 3:10 to Yuma (1957) versus it's 2007 remake! Per any good Remake Rumble episode, the Sneople spend a little time explaining the basic premise of the films before diving headfirst into the differences, what they like or dislike about each, and what makes each of these movies like, SO gay. This doesn't even cover the fact that there is some very serious discussion on how attractive Russell Crowe is in the remake - it didn't come up in ep, but Glenn Ford as Ben Wade? ALSO distressingly attractive, just saying. Obviously you'll have to listen to hear the winner of this remake rumble, but we'll say this - it's a lot closer than you might think. On a more serious note, apologies for the delay in releasing this episode! It'll shift our schedule, but we'll be back in two weeks with the next Sneople episode, putting us back on our standard biweekly release. I am trying so hard to not make this announcement sound like a corporate email. Yeehaw.

What if '3:10 to Yuma' was recast in 1976?Ever wondered how the dusty trails and lawless landscapes of a Western classic like "3:10 to Yuma" would fare against the disco-drenched backdrop of 1976? Saddle up with Cory, Nick, and Aly as they reimagine this modernized western in an era of auteurs and gritty, harsh truths. We're deep-diving into a decade of film that was ripe for a different kind of outlaw—an examination of the Western genre through the lens of a transformative year in cinema. From the cultural shockwaves of "All the President's Men" to the underdog story that punched its way to our hearts in "Rocky," we draw parallels, conjure up hypotheticals, and highlight the performances that defined 1976. Our journey through the tumbleweeds isn't just about casting cowboys and gun-slinging galas; it's a salute to the icons of an era and the stories they told. So grab your Stetson and join us for a ride through the old West, reimagined through the gritty prism of the '70s—it's an episode that promises no ghostbusting, but plenty of spurs and speculation.(00:01:00)Intro(00:02:34) About the Movie(00:07:00)Useless Critic Stats(00:20:41)1976 Box Office(00:23:22)Oscars(00:24:16)Other Notable Films(00:30:12)Rules(00:33:18)30 Seconds or Less CastingMAIN CAST:(00:40:09) Alice Evans (00:45:09) Butterfield (00:54:02) Charlie Prince (01:03:38) William Evans (01:13:35) Dan Evans (01:25:06) Ben Wade (01:37:06)Final CastThanks for listening; If you feel like supporting us, this is where you do that!BuyMeACoffee Check out or other content/socials here.

Lost and Found - 3:10 to Yuma - Episode 59Welcome to OTTplay Lost and Found, one podcast that talks about critically acclaimed films and shows but lesser-known. I'm your host Nikhil.American Western dramas have always offered a unique viewing experience with their distinctive visual aesthetic, featuring rustic towns, gunslingers, outlaws, bar fights, and money heists. James Mangold's 2007 western drama, 3:10 to Yuma, is probably not the first name that comes to mind when talking about western classics such as Django Unchained, Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, High Noon, Unforgiven, The Good, the Bad and the Ugly, and The Wild Bunch. However, 3:10 to Yuma is undoubtedly one of the finest westerns created after the turn of the century. Starring Russell Crowe and Christian Bale in lead roles, the story follows a struggling rancher named Dan Ewans who agrees to be part of an armed escort to transport the notorious outlaw Ben Wade. Bale essays the role of the desperate rancher Dan, who agrees to the deal in order to save his ranch and provide for his family. A veteran of the civil war, Dan must overcome his physical disability of having lost a leg in the war, whilst also having to fight for his honor. Whereas Crowe's Ben Wade is an outlaw, a murderer, a thief, and a womaniser, but also charming, flamboyant, and charismatic at the same - a sharp contrast to Dan. The two characters, despite their differences, form a mutual respect for one another on their journey to catch the train at 3:10 towards Yuma, where Ben is expected to be imprisoned. In the midst of all the drama, Dan and those helping transport must keep an eye out for Ben's gang and his sadistic lieutenant Charlie Prince, played by Ben Foster, waiting to ambush the escort. Logan Lerman, Gretchen Mol, Peter Fonda, Dallas Roberts, and Alan Tudyk play excellent supporting characters. The engrossing screenplay, the gunfights, and the chemistry between the two leads make 3:10 to Yuma, a compelling watch, and an underrated classic. If you haven't watched this flick yet then do so streaming exclusively on Lionsgate PlayWell that's the OTTplay Lost and Found for today, until the next episode it's your host Nikhil signing out.Aaj kya dekhoge OTTplay se poocho

Jay, Sam and special guest Ben Wade compare two of rock and roll's great front men.
Jay Mac and Sam welcome back to the show Ben Wade to highlight several bands that feature siblings.
Two westerns separated by five decades, but connected by a short story from Elmore Leonard and lead actors who are real cutey pies. First up, Glenn Ford and Van Heflin are at odds, as the former tries to convince the latter to spare him from the eponymous prison train. It's light on action, heavy on charm and presents a fairly believable vision of the old west in Van Heflin's simple farmer. Then, 50 years later, we got the big budget remake from James "Logan" Mangold, with Russell Crowe and Christian Bale stepping into the shoes of Ben Wade and Dan Evans. This time, Mangold adds in half an hour of runtime - mostly in action scenes that are quite spectacular - and he changes the ending. So which is going to fare better: the simple, straightforward semi-classic; or the bombastic, big budget update? The popular conception of the Civil War is that Abraham Lincoln single-handedly led the Union to victory. But in addition to the Great Emancipator, we can also thank four influential members of Congress–Thaddeus Stevens, Pitt Fessenden, Ben Wade, and the proslavery Clement Vallandigham. They show us how a newly empowered Republican party shaped one of the most dynamic and consequential periods in American history. Today’s guest is Fergus Bordewich, author of “Congress of War.” He shows that from reinventing the nation’s financial system to pushing President Lincoln to emancipate the slaves to the planning for Reconstruction, Congress undertook drastic measures to defeat the Confederacy, in the process laying the foundation for a strong central government that came fully into being in the twentieth century.

Fergus Bordewich on Congress at War For more information go to: WWW.CWRTChiago.org "Congress at War" tells the story of how the oft-maligned U.S. Congress helped win the Civil War a new perspective that puts the House and Senate, rather than President Lincoln, at the center of the conflict. This perspective on the Civil War overturns the popular conception that Abraham Lincoln single-handedly led the Union to victory and gives us a vivid account of the essential role Congress played in winning the war. Building a riveting narrative around four influential members of Congress Thaddeus Stevens, Pitt Fessenden, Ben Wade, and the pro-slavery Clement Vallandigham Fergus Bordewich shows us how a newly empowered Republican party shaped one of the most dynamic and consequential periods in American history. Episode 7: Ohio v. the Contenders. Alex catches “presidential fever” with 4 Ohioans who attempted to capture the highest office in the land. We sit down with the co-creators of “1865”, Steven Walters and Erik Archilla, to discuss the presidency and impeachment of Andrew Johnson. We discuss their 1865 Podcast, the impeachment of Andrew Johnson and the near presidency of Ohioan Benjamin Wade. Listen to 1865 here, my favorite podcast from 2019. https://wondery.com/shows/1865/ Erik and Steven discuss their excellent show and answer the question: why is Andrew Johnson our worst President ever? Bruce Carlson from the excellent “My History Can Beat Up Your Politics” podcast rejoins the show to discuss Senator Ben Wade. We discuss how close Sen. Wade came to becoming the 18th President of the United States. Alex also revisits the story of the first woman to run for President, Victoria Woodhull. Woodhull, from Homer, Ohio, is what Alex calls “the most interesting woman in the world.” We follow Woodhull’s brief time in the woman’s suffrage movement, her run as the presidential candidate of the Equal Rights Party in the 1872 Election and her arrest just days before that election. We replay our interview with Lisa Wood from the Ohio History Connection. Alex also discusses two more modern contenders: John Glenn in 1984 and John Kasich in 2016. Bruce rejoins us to discuss Glenn’s failed run at the Democratic nomination and the similarities between the crowded ’84 field and the two dozen Democratic candidates in 2020. Political analyst Kyle Kondik joins the show again to discuss the failed presidential campaign of Ohio Governor John Kasich in 2016. We look at the crazy 2016 Republican primary campaign and Kasich’s attempted run as the moderate Republican candidate vs. Donald Trump. Stop what you’re doing and go listen to the 1865 Podcast from our guests Steven Walter and Erik Archilla. https://wondery.com/shows/1865/ It’s my favorite history podcast from 2019 hands down. Join us for a virtual conversation with Fergus Bordewich, whose new account of the Civil War does not focus on President Lincoln's role, but instead shows how four Republican congressional leaders often led the way, pushing Lincoln to do more and even defying him at times. Thaddeus Stevens, Pitt Fessenden, Ben Wade, and the pro-slavery Clement Vallandigham, all members of the newly empowered Republican party, passed the drastic measures to defeat the Confederacy, planned Reconstruction, created the forerunner of the IRS, laid the foundation for the Federal Reserve system, passed the Pacific Railway Act to link the heartland with California, created the Land Grant Colleges Act—which laid the groundwork for public state university systems nationwide—demanded emancipation of the slaves before Lincoln was ready to consider it, and in the process laid the foundation for a strong central government. Brimming with drama and outsized characters, Congress at War is a timely reconsideration of the conflicts of power between the White House and Congress that will change the way we understand both the Civil War and our own future. Alex Hurst joins Ben Wade and Adam Widdrington to talk through United's listless draw with Wolves. The lads are joined by The Atheltic's George Caulkin - a titan of the North East football world. Discussion centres around if the point was good, if the manager could have done better to prevent the equaliser and why the club signed a £40m striker so ill suited to the style of play. One unnamed member of the podcast plugs Jack Colback for a midfield return. Out of respect these comments will be annulled from the record after 48 hours of broadcast. Many thanks to George for his time. However, a panel composed of humanist minister Rebecca Armstrong, past American Humanist Association president Mel Lipman, former AHA board member Paula Rochelle, and former AHA regional coordinator Ben Wade came together at the AHA's national conference in Chicago this past May to argue that we should. They tell us that interfaith work is both an opportunity and responsibility that at least some humanists should pick up. This podcast features audio from that panel presentation.
