After my last depressive episode, I tried reflecting on how I got where I ended up. I thought about all the things I had stopped doing to take care of myself and make sure my mindset was in a good place. I made a list of all the things I started doing when I was actively trying to come out of my depression, I'm sharing that list with you in this episode. Every time I go back into a state of depression, I have lost the motivation and energy to support myself and my mental health. Sometimes no matter what I do, I still fall back into it. Supporting my mental health will be a life-long journey. I hope you understand it will be for you as well. It's okay to have hard days and depressive episodes, it happens to the best of us. When you have the energy, try doing a few things on this list to support your own mental health and make supporting it a routine that works for you.❤️ Support the Podcast on Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/goodheartedpodcast

I found Hulu's Victoria's Secret: Angels and Demons Mini Series thanks to Jax on TikTok. She released a new song a few weeks ago called "Victoria's Secret" which is basically a big middle finger to the brand, its owner and what it has represented in our society in the last few decades. Us 90s kids were subject to the cruel and unusual punishment that was Victoria's Secret marketing and many of us developed insane body image and self-worth issues because of it. There were many other things in the early 2000s contributing to these issues (thank you to the insane diet culture) but Victoria's Secret played a huge role in changing how society perceived and worshipped the "perfect" woman. In this episode I'm sharing my feelings and thoughts about the first 2 episodes of this mini series. As long as I can remember I have held myself to unachievable expectations. I have cared way too much about EVERYTHING. I NEEDED to be known as likable, friendly, the life of the party, and smart (to name a few things). All of this made me a perfectionist, procrastinator and fake at the end of the day because I was constantly morphing to be who I thought other people needed me to be.When postpartum depression hit, I realized (several months in) that caring about everything was going to kill me. I was exhausted from constantly trying to be the perfect mom, daughter, sister, friend and person I thought I needed to be. I was having frequent anxiety attacks wondering if I was doing right by Harper and by everything else in my life that had come before her.I knew I needed to let some shit go, but I didn't know how. Thankfully I found 2 books that really changed my perspective on caring about things. I would highly recommend you read both of them (I listened to the audiobooks), but I'm going to give you a cliff notes version of what I learn from each of them that really helped me only care about the things that really mattered to me at the end of the day.Support the Podcast on Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/goodheartedpodcastCheck out the Show Notes: https://www.goodheartedpodcast.com/podcast-episodes/60Watch on YouTube: https://youtu.be/cgwnoLAHuWU Mentioned ⬇️The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F*ck: https://amzn.to/36g8M8S the Life Changing Magic of Not Giving a F*ck: https://amzn.to/3q38IjW

When we moved to a slightly bigger house and had our daughter, the house just didn't feel like home. It felt big and empty and taken over by baby stuff. The last few months I've redecorated in a way that is far from minimal and have even bought some new things to make my house feel like a home. I love mixing up the things in my house to help it feel like a fresh, new space at the beginning of every year. In this episode, I'm sharing how I refreshed my home without spending hardly any money! I always start with a new Pinterest board, pinning anything that catches my eye. Then I look back at my pins and see what I already have that can be moved to a different spot in my home to mimic the vibe of my Pinterest board.  After I rearrange the things I already have, I either do DIY projects to make any pieces I'm making or keep an eye out for those objects when I go out shopping. I hope you will try to refresh any areas of your home that feel stale and transform it into a space you love!Support the Podcast on Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/goodheartedpodcastCheck out the Show Notes: https://www.goodheartedpodcast.com/podcast-episodes/45Watch on YouTube: https://youtu.be/lzpb7k8Suz0

    Making Self-Care a Habit

I hope this episode inspires you to think about how you can take care of yourself a little bit better every day until it becomes a daily habit. I love being surrounded by things that I love first thing in morning. I don't have a long, drawn out morning routine, but I do start each day with a cup of coffee and sitting on the couch in my living room. I like to treat myself to special coffee and/or creamer from time to time, have a cozy blanket waiting for me on the couch and to read from the book I'm reading instead of scrolling on my phone while I enjoy my coffee. Making these things easy for me to grab for aren't huge ways to take care of myself, but they do make my morning and overall day a little bit better, no matter how far it goes off the rails. That hasn't worked too well for me either. I'm entering this new year with slowly and quietly with an open heart and open mind. To set my intentions, I just sat in a quiet room for about 5 minutes and wrote down "I Will" statements. The intentions I have set are based on what I desire for myself in this next year. I have nothing against knick-knacky gifts, but if you're looking for minimal Christmas gift ideas this year, this episode is for you. A lot of the things I mention are things on my own list this year. In general, my minimal gifts ideas fall into one of the following categories: they are an experience of some kind, they are consumable/reusable, they are a digital or subscription based. I also try to go for quality over quantity. I'd rather spend more on one gift for someone than spend the same amount on a few cheaper gifts. Minimal gifts making shopping much easier on me and I don't have to spend as much time wrapping!
