In this timely New Year's episode, Dr. Scott Watier and Tommy Welling unpack groundbreaking research published in Cell Host and Microbe revealing why holiday emotional eating isn't a character flaw but a metabolic brain loop driven by gut-produced molecules that hijack your stress response. They explain how the microbial metabolite imidazole propionate (IMP) crosses into the brain and fundamentally alters stress-coping circuitry, causing a "freeze" response that makes you reach for food when overwhelmed rather than exploring healthier options. The hosts connect this mechanism to the 88% of Americans living with metabolic dysfunction, demonstrating how insulin resistance, gut dysbiosis, and blood sugar dysregulation create a vicious cycle where stressed brains default to emotional eating as a neurobiological coping strategy. They provide actionable solutions including establishing foundational fasting habits, using continuous glucose monitors for real-time feedback, removing ultra-processed foods that feed harmful gut bacteria, and implementing simple stress-management tools that rewire the gut-brain-metabolism connection. Most producers say they want to dominate 2026, yet many are still waiting for permission. Waiting for the “right time” to invest in themselves. Waiting to see if someone else will sign off on it. That mindset quietly keeps people stuck—and it's far more common than most want to admit. In this episode, I sit down with my client and friend, Andy Neary, for an honest, no-fluff conversation about what actually holds high performers back. We talk about why driven professionals often struggle with self-worth, why chasing a “guaranteed ROI” can sabotage momentum, and how confidence isn't something you wait to feel—it's something you build by consistently showing up for yourself. This is a real conversation about responsibility, ownership, and what it takes to stop playing small as the new year approaches.About The Guest: Andy Neary is a speaker, author, podcast host, and coach dedicated to helping professionals build the mindset, habits, and strategies needed to excel in business and life. Send us a textHoliday Eating Without Guilt: A New Way to Navigate the HolidaysThe holidays are supposed to be joyful, but for so many women, they come with food guilt, stress, and the pressure to “be good” around food.In this episode, I'm breaking down why holiday eating feels so hard, and why the stress you feel around food isn't a personal failure it's a predictable response to restriction, pressure, and outdated nutrition rules.I walk you through what I call the holiday diet trap: the cycle of restriction, overeating, guilt, and shame that shows up every year, and explain why trying to control food more actually leads to less control. We talk about how holiday stress impacts your physiology, your appetite, and your food choices, and why mindful eating isn't about willpower, it's about creating safety, presence, and freedom around food. This episode is a call to shift from restriction to nourishment, from fear to trust, and from guilt to an abundance mindset so you can enjoy holiday food, feel good in your body, and stay connected to what actually matters. If you're tired of white-knuckling your way through holiday eating, this episode will change how you approach food —not just during the holidays, but for good. Why wait until January 1 to feel better? You aren't alone. In Episode 353 of the Prime Podcast, Dr. Skip and Dr. Julie Wies tackle the "Financial Hangover" that ruins January for so many couples. We discuss why consumerism often masquerades as connection and how mismatched expectations (and credit card bills) create deep resentment that explodes once the decorations come down. We dive deep into Love Languages—what happens when one spouse loves giving gifts but the other hates clutter? We also share the "Wrap It Yourself" hack that saves husbands from panic-buying blenders, and why saying "Maybe" is the most dangerous thing you can do in a relationship. On a serious note, we discuss why divorce filings spike in January. It isn't just about the money; it's about the lack of genuine, unplugged time. Tune in for practical, low-cost ways to date your spouse again—from bringing back the "Coupon Book" to conducting "Hallmark Movie Research" on the couch. In This Episode, You Will Learn: The "$$$$" Holiday Trap: How to stop the cycle of spending money you don't have to impress people who don't care. It's mid-December, everyone's running on fumes, and your child just screamed "I hate you." And even though you know it's the exhaustion talking, it still stings because you're killing yourself to make the holidays special, and this is what you get in return. The truth is, the holidays amplify everything: the excitement, the overstimulation, the meltdowns, and yes, the hurtful words our kids don't fully understand yet. But here's what I've learned after years of navigating big emotions with my own strong-willed kids: how we respond in these moments matters more than we think, and there are ways to handle it that actually strengthen our relationship with them instead of damaging it. This is an encore episode from March 2023, and I'm bringing it back because this message feels especially timely right now. I'm sharing audio from an Instagram Live I recorded about an experience with my son six years ago, and then I'll walk you through three things I've learned about what to do when your child says they hate you or uses other big, hurtful words that land like a punch. In this episode, you'll discover:

If going home for the holidays leaves you anxious, exhausted, or feeling like you're twelve years old again, this is not emotional weakness. This is your nervous system. When you're around your family of origin, the oldest wiring in your brain comes back online. These patterns were built before you had adult self-regulation. Your limbic system reacts fast, old roles resurface, and your regulated adult self can get pushed offline without you realizing it.What you're experiencing is neurological conditioning, not failure. And this season is an opportunity to do something different. You can interrupt the hijack, respond instead of react, and stay grounded even when everyone around you is not.Family of Origin Dysfunction: Why Going Home Dysregulates Your Brain
What if the thing stressing you out right now isn't actually an emergency? In this episode of Tripping Off, We will break down how our brains learn to treat everything like a crisis, especially around the holidays, in families, with ADHD, trauma, and years of being dismissed. We'll unpack the difference between emergencies, urgencies, and weekly tasks, how adrenaline becomes a coping strategy, and why living in constant “everything is on fire” mode wrecks your nervous system. This conversation isn't about dismissing your emotions, it's about giving them context, so you can breathe, sleep, and show up without burning out.

Why is the "most wonderful time of the year" also the time, all too often, when our kids are at their worst? Drawing on research from child psychologists, developmental experts, and real-life family dynamics, Amy and Margaret explore this extremely familiar dynamic, and explain how disrupted routines, sensory overload, anxiety, social expectations, and good old-fashioned exhaustion collide to push kids past their emotional thresholds. They discuss: How blown-up routines remove a key emotional “protective factor” for kids Why holiday excitement + uncertainty creates anxiety (for kids and adults) The “migraine threshold” analogy for understanding meltdowns How neurodivergent kids experience holiday environments differently Why expectations—ours and theirs—fuel disappointment When misbehavior is emotional dysregulation vs. strategic escape How to rethink traditions so they actually work for the kids you have Practical ways to add back small routines, reduce overwhelm, and prepare kids ahead of time If holiday gatherings feel harder than they “should,” this episode offers compassion, insight, and doable strategies to help every kid (and parent) get through the season with less stress. In today’s special year-end holiday episode, host Heather Creekmore welcomes author and speaker Cynthia Ruchti to the show for an uplifting conversation perfectly suited to the busy woman navigating the Christmas season. As the holidays approach, the to-do lists are long, and the “reason for the season” can easily get lost amid shopping, family obligations, and endless tasks. Heather Creekmore and Cynthia Ruchti encourage listeners to pause, ponder, and rediscover the wonder of Christmas, focusing on spiritual renewal rather than exhausting productivity. Together, they discuss Cynthia’s Christmas devotional, her insights on noticing God’s presence, embracing lingering and pondering, and shifting our attitudes to receive what God has truly prepared for us—even in the midst of chaos, disappointment, and the “distribution of labor” that often falls to women during the holidays. The episode is packed with relatable holiday circumstances, biblical reflections, real-life stories, and practical encouragement to rest in the joy, awe, and wonder that Christmas offers. Key Topics Discussed: Why slowing down and observing brings more spiritual refreshment than staying busy The power of “lingering”—with God, with loved ones, and in the moment God’s upside-down kingdom and the abundance found in trusting Him with our time and resources Noticing God in both the seen and the unseen aspects of the Christmas story The message of redemption woven throughout Scripture, from Isaiah to the nativity What holiday mishaps (yes, even broken goblets!) can teach us about perspective and joy Reframing holiday serving as a gift for ourselves, not just for others How to keep awe and wonder alive in our hearts, even when Christmas feels like another item on the checklist Practical encouragement for busy moms and grandmas feeling the holiday load Using Cynthia’s 26-day devotional for a richer, more intentional holiday season Resources & Links: Get Cynthia’s Christmas devotional book, Spirit of Christmas: Discovering His Presence (available on Amazon and hemmedinhope.com) *Amazon affiiate link, a tiny portion of your purchase will support this ministry. The holidays bring a lot of excitement, but even with all the talk of cheer and togetherness, they can sometimes feel overwhelming. Luckily, there are simple and affordable ways to lower your stress and enjoy the season more. Links: Check out TCU University for financial education tips and resources! Follow us on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter! Learn more about Triangle Credit Union Welcome to Money Tip Tuesday from the Making Money Personal podcast. For most families, the holidays are a busy time. There's gift planning, budgeting, gatherings, and then all the clean-up and organizing. It can feel like you're being pulled in every direction, so it's no surprise that stress and anxiety go up this time of year. Taking care of your mental health can be tough, but it is possible. Here are a few ways you can look after your mental and physical health this season. If money is tight this year, try buying one gift for the whole family instead of individual gifts. This helps keep costs down and makes shopping less stressful. You don't have to find the perfect gift for everyone—sometimes a group gift is just as fun and memorable. Don't try to handle everything on your own. If you usually take on all the work, try asking others to help out. Hosting a potluck instead of making all the food yourself can ease your workload and lower your costs. It also gives you more time to relax and enjoy with your guests. Remember to rest and get some exercise. It doesn't have to cost anything—just take a walk around your neighborhood or find a local trail. Enjoy some fresh air and give your mind a break from all the holiday planning and activities. Choose just a few simple events to attend. You don't have to accept every invitation, whether in-person or online. It's okay to say no and save yourself some stress. If you usually host big gatherings, consider a smaller get-together, like a movie night or cookie decorating. Don't forget to play some music. Holiday songs are a great way to lift your spirits. Put on your favorites while you cook, wrap gifts, or spend time with family. It's free and can really boost your mood. Stay organized and clear out clutter. This time of year, it's easy for things to pile up. Getting rid of items you don't use can help you relax and make space for new things. Donate what you no longer need—you'll feel better, and someone else might benefit from your donation. The holidays should be a time to relax and enjoy yourself. Don't let stress take away your peace and joy. Take care of your mental health so you can make the most of the season. Is It Time to Invoke the 25th Amendment? | Karel Cast Donald Trump's latest post targeting Rob Reiner has shocked even longtime Republicans — and for many, it feels like the moment where denial finally ends. This is no longer about political disagreement. It's about fitness, stability, and responsibility. On today's episode of The Karel Cast, we examine the growing concerns about Trump's health, behavior, and ability to govern. This is a man with access to nuclear codes — someone most people wouldn't trust to babysit a child — yet elected officials continue to look the other way. Why? The Constitution provides a mechanism for moments like this: the 25th Amendment. That responsibility falls to the Cabinet — but will they act? Or are fear, money, and loyalty to MAGA preventing them from doing their duty, even as polls show Trump's own base beginning to turn? We'll talk about political cowardice, constitutional accountability, and why so many leaders refuse to act even when the warning signs feel impossible to ignore. Plus: with Christmas Eve just days away, are you ready — emotionally, mentally, and practically — for the holidays? The Karel Cast is supported by your donations at patreon.com/reallykarel. Whenever I hear the Andy Williams song "It's the most wonderful time of the year," I am immediately transported to my childhood, driving around town at night in the snow looking at all of the holiday lights. But the reality is, even in the best of times, the holidays can be overly busy and demanding. For many, it is actually a time of stress, overwhelm, and grief. In the last week alone, I tapped with seven different clients around holiday and family holiday issues. This week in the podcast we are doing lots of tapping for holiday stress. We tap for: 1:25 Being too busy and tired to enjoy the holiday 5:20 Grief and sadness that comes with the season 11:00 Stress that comes with spending time with difficult family members 14:55 Slowing down enough to experience blessings and joy This is one you are going to want to bookmark to help you through the coming weeks.
