The Bible has a lot to say about love. In fact, it is one of the central themes of the entire Bible and if you took a step back you would realize that the Bible is really just a big love story about a God and His people. As a matter of fact the Bible tells us that God Himself is love and in God's word we see time and time again that we are called to not only love God in return, but to love others because of His great love toward us. In this week's episode, Rachel shares about her trip to Iowa when she picked up her new car. At first, she's a bit hesitant to travel alone as she thinks about her responsibilities as a mom and a wife. She continues sharing a story about when she used to live in Laramie with her roommate. They went to Vedauwoo where they met two hitchhikers who had an unfortunate experience. Rachel and her roommate helped them by giving them a ride to their apartment to be able to make phone calls to help them on the next steps of their journey. She also shares how she traveled alone to Eugene Oregon back in 1998. She only got $125 cash, no credit card, no checks, no cellphone, just all her belongings in the back of her truck and she used a paper map to get there. However, on her trip to Iowa, she knew that it was different. There are more things to consider than just herself. Before she leaves she was talking to her friend Lindsey on the phone and they realized that she can make a detour on her trip. Rachel went to Missouri to meet Lindsey Bennett (Episode #10 and #34) and Gina Giro (Episode #53) on Thursday and then meet some other friends in Golden before she went back home on Friday. While she was driving on the road she was listening to a book and it made her realize many things. Rachel explains how healing it was for her. She was able to release some of those emotions that she's been holding. Despite feeling nervous, she then realized why she needed to travel alone. If this resonates with you, Rachel would love to hear your story. You can connect with Rachel through the following:IG: @liveyourrawlifeF: Live Your RAW Life E: liveyourrawlife@gmail.comWeb: www.liveyourrawlife.comYour support for the podcast is greatly appreciated:Patreon link:https://www.patreon.com/liveyourrawlifeIf something resonated with you from this week's episode please subscribe to the show and leave a review while you are there. I had this interesting feeling to record an episode that was like a time capsule, for the August 30, 2022 version of me to look back on and enjoy. I invite you to do a similar thing to appreciate this current moment we are all in right now. The time will fly by either way. Writing is something that we are all taught to do from a young age but we are not necessarily taught (at least not very thoroughly) the why and the usefulness of it. Growing up it was drilled into me that the only reasons to write were to inform, entertain, or persuade people. In this episode, I dug into 3 other reasons to write: documenting your journey, providing clarity, and giving inspiration for tough times. Reflective and other writing has helped me immensely on my entrepreneurship journey so far, and I am sure it will help you too! If you are someone who is not strength training yet or are looking to get back into activity, you might be nervous. Getting back into movement in a way that keeps you safe and healthy starts with understanding your foundation and finding mobility practices that meet you where you are now. Key Takeaways If You Want To Encourage Mobility, Representation, and Justice In The Fitness Space, You Should: Get assessed to find out where your body is at and what mobility practices could benefit you Stop viewing mobility practices as an optional extra and start including them in your daily routine Work to view people in the fitness space as whole people, not just exercise machines Seek out voices other than your own to find out how you can increase representation in the fitness space Taking Care Of Yourself as a Whole Person Rich Thurman, better known as Coach RT3, is a mobility specialist who is passionate about sharing his experiences as a black man in the fitness industry and advocating for coaching in a way that takes care of your body, mind, and spirit as one whole person. Rich knows that mobility practices are not an optional extra but something that helps you get better at what you are trying to do and is here today to share how mobility, inclusivity, and representation intersect in the fitness space. Investing In Yourself Through Mobility Practices Mobility is the best investment you can make for yourself. By giving time to mobility practices that will improve your longevity, and preserve, improve, and enhance your ability to do the things you love longer, you will save yourself the necessity to give it up later. Something as simple as preparation can help you create strength in the realms you may not have strength in anymore, save you from injury, and help you find a workout that fits your body's strengths and shortcomings. Mobility practices are the key to move better, feel better, and ultimately do more for longer. Representation Is Power For too long, underrepresented people in the fitness space, such as Black, Asian, and LGBTQ+ persons, have been burying themselves to make other people feel comfortable. Rich is here to say no more to that and encourage organizations, coaches, trainers, and anyone involved in the fitness space to do the work, become aware, and take steps to view someone as a whole person. Instead of assuming the needs of others and pushing that agenda, Rich wants to challenge you to work to improve yourself, learn about your community, and recognize the intersections between identity, representation, and fitness. It is only by working to be better, that we can include the voices that have been marginalized for too long and lift up our fellow humans. Are you ready to give yourself the gift of time through mobility practices? How do you work to stand up for your fellow humans in the fitness space? Share your thoughts about Rich's perspective with me in the comments on the episode page. In This Episode Why mobility is an important piece to getting active again that a lot of people skip over (6:16) Tips for tackling mobility as part of your overall training program (21:35) The role of social justice when it comes to the experience of being in the fitness industry (31:07) How walking away from certification bodies can be liberating, challenging, and transformative (38:43) The importance of mental health and representation when coaching a whole person (44:32) Quotes “When we look at training mobility, and why it's important, it's more along the lines of preparing your body for the things that you want to do.” (10:02) “You can spend the time now, or you can give up the time later. There are only really 2 options. So when we create more room for the things that we love, we are basically creating more time.” (22:31) “Peripherally, all of the wealth that came as a peripheral means of those bodies, the bodies of my ancestors who survived this ordeal, to make me possible, that is carried inside of me.” (33:07) “The onus is not on us to find out when these things happen, the onus is on the organization to say ‘this is what we want, this is what we would like, can we find the people who are doing good work within our organization who have paid us money and maintained our certification, can we find those people?'.” (41:34) “These conversations need to be had throughout all of these organizations and need to be commonplace. Because we need to know how to best serve the people we are working with, the people in front of us.” (48:01) Featured on the Show Free Strength Workout Mini-Course Upgrade Guys Mobility Membership The Upgrade Guys Website The Upgrade Yo Sh*t Podcast Follow Rich on Instagram | TikTok Steph Gaudreau Website Check out the full show notes here! Tough conversations are just that… tough. Perhaps it’s an emotionally charged conversation. Or maybe you’re having to set a boundary that you’re nervous about. Or you know that you’re going to have to disappoint someone.Chances are in the lead up to the conversation you spend a lot of time thinking about it and planning out what you want to say so that it has the best chance of going well.Maybe you even Google tips for getting your needs and points across!A difficult conversation can take it all out of you. It can throw your whole nervous system for a loop. You might need to come out of flight-or-fight mode afterwards. It might throw your overthinking brain into overdrive with “what if I had done x, y, or z instead?”And that’s why we think there needs to be another element to all this. Awareness about the toll these sorts of conversations can have on YOU and how it will affect you for the hours and days AFTER. That’s why in this episode we’re discussing a recent time Claire had to have a really difficult conversation and how she dealt with it before, during, and after. This is one you’re going to want to listen to (even if you don’t have any such conversation on the horizon!) so you’re ready and prepared to give yourself some grace and love the next time a tough conversation rolls around. After 5 years of struggling to accept help, I've decided to take action on it. In this episode, I'm sharing my experience over the last 5 years about a topic that I'm NOT talking about as much: Medication when taking care of your mental health. Mental health management is more important as we move forward to 2021, so take a listen if you're struggling with figuring out how to accept help or if you are just interested in hearing my story.Remember: You get to decide if medication is for you or not. My decision may not be yours, and that's OK.Show notes at : https://www.theempathyfront.com/6

This year has been a year of transitions. Big and small, noticeable or not. Everyone has had to deal with them and they can be hard. Both of us have been dealing with some pretty big transitions in our lives. For Cheryl it’s been buying a new home, selling the current home, and moving! For Claire it’s that her boyfriend is moving to a new city. Cheryl’s transition has been going on for months (if not years), while for Claire it’s only been a few weeks. Transition can be tough so in this episode we sat down to discuss how we’re dealing with ours and break it down into 3 simple steps to help you get through the transitions in your life. These 3 steps will help you to process what you’re feeling and going through, take care of yourself, and stay balanced even when things feel completely out of whack. If you’re dealing with big transitions or just the transitions 2020 is throwing your way every day, then this episode is for you!
Confession time . . . I am a simplifying junkie. There. I said it. Some people love collecting things. Me? I LOOOOVE simplifying anything and everything in my life. It makes me so gosh darn happy!Hey, I’m not judging! Collecting can be a beautiful thing. Although I’ve never collected objects that brought me joy, I used to collect and hold on to a heck of a lot of stuff. I’m talking full-on clutter. Some of us have “junk drawers” (I still do!), well, this clutterbug had a “junk ROOM” in each of our first THREE homes. But those days are gone since I’ve learned the amazing joy that decluttering and simplifying my life bring me.And now that my husband, Matt, and I are getting ready to move to a smaller house (read: simplification heaven), I’ve been doing one heck of a massive purge. There isn’t an eraser or chip clip that’s safe in our house! It’s like Marie Kondo on overdrive! Basically, if I’ve packed it into a box, it passed the spark-joy test. My excitement (and adoration!) of simplifying my life and my surroundings has gone through the roof. So why do I love simplicity SOOOO much?I love the clarity it brings to my life. I love blessing other people with belongings that no longer fill me with joy but that will absolutely send them over the moon. I love minimizing distractions, both physically and visually, so that I feel centered and can focus on what really matters to me. I love looking around my house and knowing that everything I see is beautiful, useful, loved and appreciated. I love the ease, the freedom, the feeling, the lightness . . . Heck, I could wax on like this for ages because simplifying feels AHHHHH-mazin’. But, if I keep going on like this I won’t get to tell you about how YOU can bring more simplicity and love into your life.So let’s get to it! Today, Claire and I are talking about the importance of simplifying and what to do when you just don’t know where to begin. We give you easy steps to get you started on your own path to simplifying. But consider yourself warned, the simplifying “bug” can be addictive once you start feeling the love. (And, believe me, that’s not a bad thing!)
Meditation changes how we feel. In fact, it completely changes our entire day! Every. Single. Time. It used to be as much a part of our days as eating breakfast (and believe us, breakfast is pretttttty important in this here household). At the beginning of the year, we didn’t even have to think about whether we were going to meditate or not. We just did it. But these days? Um, not so much. How the heck did our daily meditation habit become, well . . . an UN-habit? COVID-19 happened. It became “front and center” and meditation just sort of slipped away to the sidelines. Now it’s time for us to pull ourselves up by the bootstraps and get back into our beloved meditation routine. But how do you make something a habit again once it’s become a forgotten part of your day? That’s what we’re talking about today. In this episode we talk about how meditation makes such a big difference in our lives, how to turn it into a daily habit, where to start when you aren’t used to meditating, and how to find the time to do it even when life feels just too busy (hint: you don’t have time NOT to do it).
