Hey everybody! How's it going? Long time no talkie, but I'm back! Life kind of took me all over the place there, but I've landed in LA, and I've got some opinions on the new regulatory nature of the cannabis industry. Regulation has sure changed a lot about access and pricing, and not much of it is good, yet. While legislators try to better understand the industry, small businesses and consumers are paying the price. Literally, with taxes well over 20% in most places. But if you know where to go, you can still find some deals. This is a floater episode, to finally check-in and bring a little of that 411 you might need before you plan your trip to Cali, or just venture into the legal adult market. And introduce you to an unexpected but not wholly improbable new friend... Who just happens to be helping me find some tasty new vapes to try. Thanks for Spliffin' it, everyone! Hey everyone! Sorry for the hiatus, but it's been a storm around here, and I ain't even anywhere near the hurricanes! I talk a bit about some personal experiences in trying to fight off the depression that can come with major changes, and how sharing cannabis has improved my life in ways that fight my depression without ever even ingesting it myself. Then I get down to a listener question! What are some tips for those who are totally new to this dab thing? Beyond some of the things I've talked about in other episodes, and barring some of the more personalized aspects of getting started (like buying a good rig for you), I give some practical tricks for dealing with what the use of cannabis concentrates on a regular basis means. In a rambly kind of, "hey, I'm two weeks late and my neighbors are noisy and distracting" kind of way... ya know, the usual. This week's Safety we dish out some Jillybean, but no dabs today. I gotta go to the store to fix my torch! Just one of the essentials we discuss this week. This one's for the stoner girls, but fellas, listen closely! Have you ever wondered what an all lady, all-day, all-night sesh would look like? Well now you can find out, with the Ganja Goddess Getaway! It's a retreat style stoner sesh that's all about celebrating the ladies. Miss Bliss, of Bliss Edibles, tells us about what inspired her to start this much needed event, future Ganja Goddess celebrations to come, and her mission to celebrate the goddess in every lady, stoner or not. (but, not doubt, it sounds like a stoner's paradise!) She's problem-solved her way through a lot of obstacles, and staked an innovative claim in the cannabis marketplace. Not to mention filled a much needed vacancy for celebrating the stoner sisterhood. All goddess worshipers welcome. I wrap up the whole thing with a late night, indica-induced monologue. Aaaaand... NOSE DABS! Is this "super druggie" method the way of reaching the next level of spiritual oneness? Let's sesh in a super stoney Safety and find out! Got a question, comment or suggestion? Breathing, we all gotta do it, right? Should be easy peasy, but why do I get so wheezy? Well, my cannabis enthusiasm might have gotten me there. But I'm a new age stoner! I'm not above taking some time to get to know my toke. And it's gonna help be a better breather ...as soon as I can stop coughing. Because cannabis as a spiritual and physical medicine is integrally locked with our breath, and we can play them off each other. If we got slow, and stay mindful. Or go big and stay mindful; you do you, boo. Inhalation is too important a method of cannabis to be afraid of it. Speaking of which, in the Safety, I blow the podcasting world up with ...you guessed it! Breathing! And some awesome Creme de Canna Super Glue sugar. Super Glue is a more indica leaning version of the Glue family. It keeps me relaxed as I ponder the future of cannabis as medicine in this western world. Will my dream of a stoney, cannabis life center ever come true? Find out at thespliffpotcast.com Ok, not really, but you can find lots of stuff there! Music thanks to Kevin Macleod. Dental health is the cornerstone of overall health, but smoking has clear implications on that health. Even smoking cannabis! Is this the Achilles' heel of our beloved weed? HELL NO! Heat and smoke can be big instigators of gum disease, but cannabis isn't the culprit! In the end, there's no proof that smoking cannabis is any more detrimental than not smoking cannabis, beyond the expected side effects of heat and dry mouth, which aren't uniquely caused by pot at all! They're very normal things every person will deal with in their lifetimes. The good news is that cannabis can also reverse the effects of gum disease and gingivitis, boosting the benefits of oil pulling and remineralization with a focus on reducing inflammation and pain. Let's talk about the future of your daily cannabis use! In the Safety Meeting this week, we shout out to ...water! Can't live without it. Also, I dish about using raw cannabis infused olive oil to fight intestinal bloating! I'm not alone... Share share share the potcast, and if you can rate and review. This week we bring another interview: Dr. Rachna Patel, Medical Marijuana Doctor. She's been in the Bay Area helping all kinds of people discover the benefits of MMJ. Using empirical science, and unafraid to reach out to her professional peers, she's a shining example of the future of medicine -accepting of cannabis! And she's dedicated to her craft, filling an area patients are desperate for, and many other doctors aren't willing to look into, despite their Hippocratic Oath. Sit back and find out what being a marijuana expert with a medical degree means, what it's like to be a medical doctor embracing cannabis, how it's affecting the medical industry and what she's doing to push this specialty into a more respected subfield. Hear from an ACTUAL DOCTOR about the science of cannabis, its applications and the most cut and dry way to approach this new area if you're feeling a bit trepidatious about trying cannabis for yourself. Dr. Patel is all about sharing good information, something we all advocate for around here at The Spliff Potcast. After the interview I get Blunted about some of the changes and bridges that need to be made between stoners and doctors. Then I dab some distillate! That's right, a buddy hooked me up with one of the hottest dab trends, the dablicator, just to hear what I thought. So toke in, and let's Spliff It! When it comes to choosing our best medicine there's a lot to know. But it all starts with optimizing the options that cannabis provides. There's more to getting the best medicine than simply tokin' -A LOT MORE! Some people need options that don't flood their system and brain with THC, while others do. We're gonna focus on some examples of ways and reasons that is. Fighting an injury is a lot different than fighting mental health, and you should use every weapon in your arsenal to get back to maximum health, as quickly as possible. That means finding the right dose too, of course. When it comes to dosing, there's just no easy answer. There's no mathematical conversions and there's no safe guess ...well, actually they're all safe guesses, if you listen to your body and fight for that sweet, safe access! In the Safety Meeting I bring it back to bangers! Cannabis concentrate are a like a fine wine, they have aromatic properties that are unlocked with different glassware! A long overdue insomniac's version of The Spliff Potcast. No, I'm not interviewing Dave Attell, I'm gonna talk about how, and a little bit about why, cannabis can help you get a better night's sleep. The trope of the dopey stoner isn't just a negative stereotype, it's a physiological effect, which you can harness! That's easier said than done for some of us. As America gets turned on to the benefits of a non-habit forming, non-toxic way to relax into a deep sleep more people than ever will see just how safe and relaxing cannabis can be. And some of us will deal with anxiety, strain tolerance, varying dosages and after-effects! Like growing, it's just not as simple as it seems it should be, sometimes. There is no real fool-proof plan or strain I can give you, but there are some helpful tips and some redirections you can take if you find your eyes stuck open at an ungodly hour of the night (or day!). From CBD to CBN and all the THC in-between, you've got options. Knowing all the available means can help you find the best mix for your needs. And don't underestimate those other influences, be it TV or some aromatherapy, the trick is to make cannabis a part of your routine. Changing people's minds about cannabis has become a lifelong passion for many of us. This week we're going to talk to two people who have taken on that mission out of Canada; Cannabis Health Radio's Ian Jessop and Corrie Yelland! By now you should be a active fan of their podcast, CHR, which highlights the triumphs and struggles of patients and cannabis professionals alike. I get the low down about how they both found themselves on this life-changing path. We dish a bit about the various cannabis scenes in our respective locations, lucky to both be in a more cannabis-friendly area than others. But that hasn't stopped both of us from having our own struggles getting the message out... In the Safety, just a quick nightcap with a little Sour Tangie in the rig. This week we dive into some science! Specifically a study I found that discusses the anti-inflammatory properties of multiple cannabinoids against an NSAID model. It's not exactly a directory to applying cannabis, but it does help back up some common anecdotes about using raw cannabinoids against decarbed ones, and the superiority of cannabis over traditional pharma. It's also a great way to start a conversation with your doctor if you want to dialogue about your inflammation management needs, or need to be wary of COX inhibitors in general. Then I talk about how I've been applying this knowledge to my recent therapies. In the Safety, I bust out some Sunset Sherbet and talk about what I've been up to lately with Cannabis Health Radio. It sounds more like a bad urban legend: stoners are getting sick off their stash! But is this just the stuff of myths? Unfortunately it doesn't seem that way, though there are conflicting theories. Medicine works differently for us all, and there's a lot left to understand. Why some of us get sick when we medicate is one of those important mysteries left to unfold. While science is interested, the research is far from complete. Simply making the connection to cannabis use has been an endeavor. And it's not a very favorable opinion for many of Mary Jane's most devoted. But since it's also us that have just as likely a chance of developing a reaction, let's talk about it. Cannabis induced vomiting is the best way to describe this, bringing to mind many friends who claim that weed makes them sick. It's hard to believe until it happens to you. And if you use cannabis -it could happen to you! But luckily, cannabis still has a perfect score on the mortality scale. It might not be comfortable, but Cannabis Hyperemesis Syndrome (CHS) isn't fatal! Which probably excludes a lot of other options, like improperly grown cannabis, which is another issue we have to deal with. In the Safety I vent some frustrations and some inspirations (can I can some cannabis deodorant puh-lease?!) Find more info and podcasts at thespliffpotcast.com
A lot going on this week, some happy some very sad. I share some personal stories and then we start Spliffin' it. Concentrates are an explosive part of the cannabis industry. The demand and quality are both as high as the patients who love them. But they can be confusing with all those stoner terms. What is dab, and is it the same as wax? Is rosin wax? What is sugar, and who is this Errl? Can we just get some good old fashioned hash? Or maybe some new fashioned hash... If you've been wanting to know more about the big wide world of wax, get ready to concentrate! (badum cha!) Understanding your needs means knowing if you need something full spectrum or an isolate. Maybe you'll take whatever you can get and just want to understand it better? Well, hopefully we can cover the whole gamut. Raw or active, terpene-rich or super distilled, it's quite the menu. Hey everyone! Hope your week has been awesome. It's loud during this week's Stoner Moments cuz I've got all kinds of shout outs! I've also tried some more cartridges to report on. Then, it's time to hit some basics, let's talk cannabis concentrates! One of the fastest, if not the fastest, growing sector of the cannabis market, concentrates are more complicated than ever. So we're gonna start with some fundamentals to help us understand this ever changing facet. We begin with the ways that concentrates can be made. Then we dig a little deeper into how the manufacturing process makes them differ, whole plant is all the rage, but maybe you've been finding success with isolates? Finally, the coup de grâce, flash-frozen full-spectrums! Just thinking about smelling them makes me drool. In the Safety Meeting I play with a newer-to-me concentrate: THC-a isolate! Well guys, it's back. Depression has been the bitch in my bed lately, and it's not giving up easily. But neither am I! This is the reason why I medicate, this is why I'm a patient. I wish it were different, but til then I'm just grateful for cannabis. I've found miracle strains, but they're hard to keep in stock. I'm pulling out all the stops to get through this, and taking some of Bad Kitty Smiles' advice (finally!) to do it: MCT oil! While depression might get me down a bit, it's not gonna take me out, and I've been keeping busy in lots of other ways. Let me tell what I've been up to that's a bit more cheery! It's time to Rise & Shine! In the Safety I revisit something I thought I was done with, the cartridge pen, specifically CO2 oil. Companies are claiming more flavor than ever, but do they deliver? Change is hard. Be it the body or the mind, change is hard. And trauma and injury can bring sudden, painful changes. Cannabis helps us cope, and get back to homeostasis as quickly as possible, with some nuances of course. Access and education make all the difference, and Papa & Barkley reps hooking up the transdermal patches have really given me the access to educate myself about how to best apply this innovation. And it couldn't have come at a better time. Yoga has me doing some intense physical healing lately that has some of my emotional healing in a state that feels a lot like being on hold. Limbo isn't fun, but cannabis can at least make it tolerable. Stay positive! The right options makes all the difference when we're talking about healthcare, and it's been a struggle finding the best way of dealing with the pain of an injury, while not disrupting my regular medical cannabis routine. So naturally I'm SO grateful for the samples I can get to help me discover answers as quickly and cheaply as possible! I also share some tips about other cannabinoids like CBN and CBG (or is it CBGA?!) I've come across in my research, both online and in the kitchen. As we Safety I go over my Goldilocks-esque experience in trying to make the most effective use of these Papa & Barkley patches. Basically, they're a physical therapy game changer! I know I did... let me tell ya all about it, from the cookies to the rosin. That's right! MORE rosin. There's so much in the works I haven't had time to properly prepare for this week, but I'm not gonna leave ya hangin without a sesh. There's plenty to talk about, from Dabbing Granny making my jaw drop with the latest cannabis concentrates to what's to come in the future -it looks Spliffy! And of course, puns. It's ok to ask, you want to know how to travel with your meds? Let's talk about some options. No matter your needs, we'll discuss your best options for staying medicated when you're traveling - flying is stressful enough as it is! The best thing to remember is to relax! And of course, that'll be easier if you can take your meds with you. Don't let the "noids" win, just be smart about it. But I check in with ya about 4/20 first, in the Stoner Moments! Nerd that I am, I was so happy to help out Bahar with her research, if you'd like to contact her about your vaping experience you can reach her at u1528632@uel.ac.uk Then in the Safety Meeting, I talk about chasing the incredible flavor dragon known as Slymer. My favorite holiday, a Stoner Holiday! Us stoners step out of the dark and celebrate our freedom with a one fingered salute against the wind, as we go public with our celebrations! At least that's how it started, but in the land of legal, 4/20 makes dreams come true for some stoners. Sometimes it's just another Thursday with a great twinkle about itself. We've all said it, maybe in frustration or as a confident close to a winning argument. But, what does it really mean? Sure it's a plant: it utilizes photosynthesis (boy does it ever!) and those are some incredible cellular walls, but... it's also cannabis! And that's more than "just" a plant. It's medicine -spiritual and physical, but that's not the reason why cannabis is so uniquely "just a plant." What is it that makes cannabis stand out from the rest of those plants? What are we really trying to say? In the Safety, I get the band back together and celebrate with a hit of that Golden Pineapple. Howdy y'alls! This week is packed with Stoner Moments, Shout outs and Seshin'. Me and the lady friends hit up the Secret Sesh to take a friend's mom out for her birthday. It was her first big cannabis event and her expectations were high. But the scene wasn't quite right. So, I'm on a mission to find a new stoner scene, a female friendly sesh. Before I talk about my new mission though, I've got some new and old Stoner Moments to get back to, and some shout outs to lay down. In the Safety Meeting I try out the High Hemp blunt wraps -no tobacco here, friends, but will it satisfy those stoner needs? Yeah, I think I'll manage! Hey everyone, what a week! It's been a roller coaster through life, it has. I've noticed some great changes in how I've been handling it too. Making a more routine appearance in my cannabis regiment, CBD has really taken the edge off, especially at nighttime. It hasn't numbed out the emotions entirely though, in fact, part of the benefits of cannabis is that it forces you to confront the emotions. It can be a tricky balance for us chronic users, but access and information are the cornerstones for creating the best foundations for those looking to manage emotional stress and imbalances. A dab here, an edible there, distillate or full spectrum -the right mix makes the magic. In the Safety I roll up some Gorilla Glue. The luck of the Irish hasn't been on my side this St. Patty's Day; my audio has been having issues. But I have been having a bit of luck in other areas! Then on to some serious cannabis talk -I keep getting shorted on my cannabis concentrates! This widespread problem is reminiscent of another stoner classic, the pinched sack. Not just a way for bros to bond with their testicles, but a ubiquitous practice that preys on the neediest of stoners. Speaking of stoners, in the Safety Meeting I rant about the hate on stoners by all these new people using weed. We were here first, yo! And we're not going anywhere any time soon, so it's time people own up to the cultural bias. All this while I try out a breeding project that gets my paleo-cortex buzzing, Prophecy! Catching up on some CBD talk this week, with plenty of nods to some of the incredible podcasts I've been digging on. It's been making me think a lot and I thought I'd share some of the rambling stoner thoughts. Then I share some of my recent experiences sitting in with the city council this past year. I'm pretty sure I'm the crazy pot lady ...and I wear that with pride. But it's been a passionate and frustrating experience to feel you're talking to moving walls. So I decided to change up my game, by falling back on a classic. Always a good time for a Daria reference! Unfortunately I've finally succumbed to the dreaded cold and flu season. But, while it's got me down, it's not gonna take me out! Cannabis' healing powers might not fight the virus but it can certainly help me supercharge my body to be its strongest. Let me share some of my tricks for getting back to health ASAP. I've got some happy and sad stories about new glass, which leads me to a new-ish product - the silicone dab rig! Could this be the solution us klutzes have been waiting for? Well, I have some doubts. Hey guys! Things are going well, but it's been another busy week, so time to pull out a banked episode. I sat down a couple months ago to talk about an Amnesia strain that was kicked down by a grower friend of mine ...and I end up proving how much of a Sativa Diva I am! But it ain't just about the flower, I bring a tasty edible I discovered at Secret Sesh to your attention. ChugALug and I mix up some Holy Headband and White Buffalo to bring it back to cannaseur levels. You remember White Buffalo, the one that I said I should never smoke in a potcast again? Let's see how it pairs with a sativa that keeps my mouth going! That sounds like a great idea. I'll be back next week with some new stuff. Take care everyone! Hey everyone! This past week has been crazy, and not in a great way. This week's potcast is a big one sided safety meeting. A bit of personal stoner journaling, if you will. Last week I talked about the chances that some dab I had came from a stressed plant, well, I have a hunch it's got my body stressin, which has ME stressin! And well, maybe you'll understand why I'm a bit late this week, and what to expect in the future. Ooooh! Punny has claws! Bad pun! Hey guys! TGIF? Thanks for reaching out about last week everyone, but now that we got the children outta the way, let's talk about sex! Forever turning the patriarchy on its head, cannabis can really boost everyone's sex life, but it's especially helpful for women! And it brings a recreational side to medicine that we don't often get to explore. Sensual Cannabis Oils are therapeutic and fun, but oils aren't a great answer for everyone... there are no perfect options, but there ARE options. Free the weed. And then free the orgasm. And there's more than one way to do that! Get your mental and physical sexy game going. While I hit my new banger in the Safety... You might be all aglow, but there is a definite skunk in the air. Please rate and review, thanks! Reach out (if you want holla so I know you found me through the potcast! - especially if you'd like me to follow back!) We're keepin' this one a shorty -just like some of our favorite people, children. Where do they fall in this new legalish market? Should they fall anywhere? Of course they should! You don't get the most potent, non-toxic medicine in the world and then get to say that children shouldn't have access to it! If anything treating children with cannabis can be the key to changing everything for them. It can be the difference between life and death. It's time to stop pretending like there's a reason to keep it from them when there just plain and simply isn't. Don't bogart the knowledge, share it with those who are too young to go out and vote for it. And somethings new came just in time for the Safety... Is it fire-breather mating season? No, that's just your typical stoner sesh, filling the air with the hacking noises of recreational bliss. But not everyone revels in the cacophony that rises from the smokey symphony. They're more concerned with the harmful effects coughing can have, and it can! There's no way to guarantee you won't cough when you're smoking -anything, yet alone weed! But there are steps you can take to protect yourself, and lessen the blows. In the Safety I just take a moment to sesh and catch up on how familiar 2017 is already feeling. Hit me up on the socials! This week we dive into an advanced course on terpenes! By now you probably know that they're what make indicas and sativas, but let's look a little closer. I've mentioned many times that terpene testing, as important as it is, is still inadequate, so let's look at some of the things we know that are missing. Esters are the most available at the moment, that strawberry banana flavor I've been enjoying, and the grapes that are gonna be upon us next (that's where my money is) are influenced primarily by esters. But there is so much more! The essential oil market, and the fragrance industry can offer some curious and enlightening insights into cannabis formulas. And I'm sure cannabis will do the same for them. It's already started! In fact, you can get your favorite strain delivered to your door anywhere in the world -legally! But, of course, there's a catch. As we safety, I puff on that Double Dream again, check out Greenhouse Seeds' Flavor Wheel to play with the terps and pull out new flavors, as well as let you know about new ways to help the potcast out!Find me on IG and FB @thespliffpotcast on Twitter @spliffpotcast and email thespliffpotcast@gmail.com Hit me up via them telephone lines at (209) 867-7543 Thanks to Kevin Macleod for the hot track "Slow Burn" Find links for merch and more at thspliffpotcast.com
As we close out the year, I end with a wish. A wish that we can move past the idea that people can't smoke weed and drive! Can we please reconcile the fact that cannabis is a medicine with the desire to tax it? Sumptuary laws have a place and all, but they work best off science, not fear. There is some genuinely thought-provoking information across multiple independent studies. But even NIDA has to concede some points on this one! Science! Stoned drivers are out there on your way to work, while you head back from the park, or are just staring at the bumper of the car in front of you in traffic. We've always been here. And society has been better off for it. Let's break down some of those facts and talk about our future. The holidays are upon us again, and the stress is piled higher than the presents. Not that you need a holiday to be stressed! A lot of people are going to be tempted to take a couple extra tokes this season, and that's ok! Don't let stigma help the stress kill you faster. Hassle and overindulgence mar the innocence of the eggnog, and you need more stress relief to compensate for that fact of life. But before I give you a pep talk to help you toke up, I have the usual long list of Stoner Moments. Don't worry it's not a list I check twice. I spent too much time being Blunted on the truth of CBD. But who can be too wound up with all these trees lit? Double Dream takes my problems as far away as the clouds, but leaves me clear headed enough to remember why I needed a bowl to begin with. Sounds like just what I needed this time of year. Thanks, to my Sativa Santa! Still reading? Well maybe you'll like my posts on Facebook Boh Nellis and The Spliff Potcast. Perhaps we keep it short? We got that fire and shit be bangin' - you know it's lit up in this mofo! Bust out the Urban Dictionary because I brought my stoner gurus over for a sesh. Ooooh, we're going deep into stoner culture this week! Not only did I have an incredible time at Secret Sesh LA, I scored a crap ton of goodies! Instead of breaking it all down for you though, I figured I'd invite over the guys who turned me on to this great event, and we could sesh it up for everyone! Keeping up on stoner culture is a lot of work. There are also LOTS of dabs happening this week. Which means a lot of coughing! lol We talk about the eye widening VIP bag swag while we up our stoner game with some nose dabs! They're way more awesome and lung-friendly than they sound at first. Sometimes life gets rough. At these times, it helps to stay positive and be creative. Stoners are some of the most positive and creative individuals on the planet! And that leads to some really resourceful engineering. The homemade bong is a staple of stoner culture. Even in the mythical land of free cannabis everywhere, you may find the need to play handyman, and bust out the bong making tools. Bongs don't grow on trees, they just help us smoke them. Happy December! I'm pretty sure my body is going into hibernation mode, and it's got me feeling a little dreamy. That heavy-liddedness can really make the eyes glow for some people. Is there any hope for those who suffer from a case of the red-eyes? Not much, unfortunately. A good allergy defense, and a few OTC options can make things a lot more comfortable in the long run. Be wary though, Ben Stein may not have your best interest at heart! Before we get to all that though I brought leftover stoner salad! Yup! That's right guys, it's Danksgiving and what did I bring? Shwag Salad. I don't care how you spell it, it's all some people got this holiday season, so let's make the most of it, shall we? The opposite of sensimilla, or more appropriately sin semilla, brick weed has a little more work that goes into it. But for some people that extra work is the ceremonial difference. When it comes to keeping it old school, and finding weed that let's you roll a serious fattie (without falling on the floor) schwag very much has a place in this industry. The customer's always right! Therefore, we gotta know how to tell quality schwag from that hazardous shwag! In the land of the needy, there's no lab testing! It's up to our nose and common sense. Then, what to do with all those seeds and stems that come with it? There's no reason to throw them out! When we say every part of the cannabis plant has medicine, we mean it! Let's contain it. When I get the rambling out of my system we move over and Safety! I freak out on the crazy things kids say nowadays, and I got a special strain just for Danksgiving dinner. Medirecreating at its best, sneak a toke of this Blue Diesel to help you deal when Nana insists on that second slice of pie. You don't want to let her down, do you?! DO YOU?! So many people are apprehensive about trying cannabis. They've had bad experiences in the past, or they're afraid of what could happen if they take too much. The good news, not much worse than a really bad afternoon! The bad news? You still have to TRY! So let's discuss some of the things to help build the resolve to tackle a low or beginner tolerance. The key is to look at the facts, and the facts are overwhelmingly in cannabis' favor. Next is to GO SLOWLY! As long as you're regularly trying, there's no way to go too slow. Then, let's get some truly professional advice in on the discussion! In the Safety Meeting I toke on some Chocolate Hashberry, because it's almost my bedtime! But before I drift off, I want to tell you about my newest schwag - a Jane West "Weekender" I scored from my fave MJ Today Daily (I told you guys you should be listening!) More states than ever are legalizing weed, which means more people than ever are going to be trying cannabis! If you're medicating or recreating, cannabis don't care -it's got this. The experience will always be personalized, but that doesn't mean we can't generalize, amirite? So let's roll through some of the possibilities. If you're experimenting with the options of legalization for the first time, or just dipping your toes in because "it's legal!" know what to expect, because knowledge is power! Key to this one is that cannabis heals the mind AND the body, so you'll need to incorporate both, sometimes whether you want to or not. We'll roll through who shouldn't be toking (and their options), who should be toking, and how to handle the experience when it gets a little out of hand (or better how to avoid it altogether!) Hey guys! I move out of my comfort zone this week to bring a little grow talk. I'm usually strictly post-harvest, but this helps us understand that aftermarket even better! Phenotypes are the reason why we've seen so many kinds of Afghani Kush, White Widow, or GDP. Cannabis cultivators are artists, each with their own style, but the real master is Cannabis, Herself. Willing to herm out when conditions call for it, this plant is a master adapter. So whether your favorite is an age old classic landrace, or an Uncle Fester-like basement experiment, cannabis knows how to give good strain. Music by Kevin Macleod. Looking to know more about California's 2016 Prop 64 AKA AUMA, but tired of that tiny print? Well, let's have an Emergency Safety Meeting to discuss it! Worried about Big Tobacco or saving the children? Where do the taxes go, and who has the power? Well, by the end we'll have some of those of answers. Let's put their claim that they got it right to the test... we'll go section by section (some a little more closely than others), listen to some of the available Voter Information Guide audio, and make up our own damn minds. Because we are adults, dammit. Unless you're 18-20, in which case you're not yet adult enough to enjoy weed according to AUMA... Rock that vote! Thanks for rating and subscribing! We're gonna take a quick look at: potency. Often used in arguments for prohibition and when seeking to "save the children" ...is this idea that the weed we smoke today being practically handed down from God, Him or Her self, really reliable? We know we can get better weed than ever, but does that mean it's really become more potent too? Like so many mythologies, how do we find the artful truth? We look at the evidence, and then tear it apart! All that historiography really fires me up! Simmer back down in the Safety to recap and hear some suggestions if you're one of dem YouTubers. Music by Kevin Macleod "Slow Burn" Thanks for rating, reviewing and subscribing! Find more info at thespliffpotcast.com
There's so much to take from this week's potcast, and not just because it's so long! My friend let me set up the mic while we sesh, and she tells me about her personal journey being diagnosed with Lyme Disease and how she has developed as an mmj patient throughout. She not only has all that going on, but has to deal with the fact that her daughters are carriers of the bacteria as well. Parenting with chronic illness doesn't leave a lot of time to be wishy washy! She's made some tough choices and come a long way in her almost 20 years as a card carrying CA medical patient. The most radical changes have happened in the last two years, however, and the most important factors? Access and education. While western medicine has failed at treating chronic pain, auto-immune disease and managing overall costs, healthcare remains a basic need that affects the whole family. So the discussion turns familial. Since parenting choices are so personal, unique perspectives like hers are always interesting. This week we delve into one of the darkest and most dangerous corners of the cannabis world: The Munchies! duhduhDUH... but this often dissed side effect of your favorite intoxicant is also a really important medicinal use! If you're trying to reclaim your appetite back from disease or disorder, or keep a reign on those junk food cravings, we're gonna dish about it all. There are no big secrets here, unfortunately. Whole plant is pretty essential to making sure you have the best success at inducing appetite, adding CBD can help stave off a junk food binge, but nothing's guaranteed when you lower your inhibitions and trigger the body's endocannabinoid system for that healing response! To keep it thematic, the Safety Meeting is dedicated to... staying healthy and doing something! We get down with some funtime salad mix and talk about how to not let yourself succumb to the munchies. Check in on the social medias! Don't forget to subscribe for more episodes every week. Rate and reviews are free! Ever wondered what it's like to be a stoner girl? Well, there's a lot of awesome, no doubt! My stoner gal pal Heather stops by to talk about how she's been using marijuana to help clear her skin of adult acne, instead of Big Pharma and Big Beauty. Then I get really personal about the passion behind this potcast. While many may not want to hear it, the drug war perpetuates many systemic failures; racism in law enforcement and deficiencies in mental healthcare are two that get much needed attention. Rape culture isn't one we normally think of, but I know I can't be alone in my experience. And I'm not- Stoner girls unite! In the Safety Meeting I toast one to the wily women and maternal energy that helped shape me into the opinionated potcaster you hear today. Music by Kevin Macleod "Slow Burn". We're closing out a full year of weekly potcasts with this episode! We did it, everyone! So I'm taking this week to talk about a recent event that helps confirm one of my favorite canna-theories -that cannabis is best used FIRST not last. The sooner we signal healing by the Endocannabinoid System (ECS) the faster and more profound the healing results can be. This can be applied in many different ways, due to the incredible versatility of cannabis and the inherent power of the ECS. Many of us will be medicating irregularly, mentally and physically, so it's important we remember to use it in the moment, where it suits us best and can do the most healing. In the Safety Meeting I talk about my preferred storage method: the mason jar! Sure, it's got its issues, but it's a classic. And I prefer the way my cannabis stores when I use them. Not to mention the added benefits that help you stretch that dollar and get as much medicine as you can! Breaking out my serious tone in this week's potcast, because we get serious. About cancer. Cannabis is a known option for treating the effects of chemo and cancer, but then there's the whispers of cancer cures in concentrate forms... Rumors and whispers aren't the most reliable information, and cure is far from what we want to start saying, but even science says cancer shows promising potential. But people don't have time to wait for research! So let's get real about how to go about this, in the labs and in the home. Whether you want to fight against cancer, or just fight for your right to party while living with cancer, cannabis has your back. For this week's Safety Meeting, I talk about an enlightening (and pain relieving!) strain review: Candyland.
