Title: Practicing the Way — The Practice of ScriptureMain Texts: Romans 12:2; Matthew 7:24–29Big Idea: The practice of Scripture is our starting place. It's how we build a foundation strong enough to withstand life's storms.Key Points:Three Forces That Shape UsThe stories we believeThe habits we buildThe relationships we keepBut the stories we believe shape us most—and the enemy uses lies to distort them. The Castle of the Mind (Illustration)A warrior named Julian guards a castle built on truth. But lies sneak in through neglected cracks.Truth (Scripture) restores clarity and strength. We must renew our minds daily with the Book of Light.Formation Is Always HappeningWhether we realize it or not, we're always being formed—by culture, media, success, pain, etc.Romans 12:2 — Don't conform, be transformed by renewing your mind.Jesus as Rabbi: Truth-TellerA rabbi's job was to reveal truth, not just inform minds but capture hearts.Scripture isn't just information—it's formation.Truth vs. Cultural LiesPaganism: Many gods → The Lord is One (Mark 12:29)Moral relativism: Multiple truths → Jesus is the TruthSocial hierarchy: Exalt self → Serve and be humbledSelf-centeredness: You are not the center → Jesus must bePutting Truth into PracticeMatthew 7:24–29 — Don't just hear the Word—practice it.Storms don't create a foundation; they reveal it.Truth must become lifestyle: worship, obedience, sacrifice.Final Challenge:Start where you are. Let Scripture reshape the story you believe—then live it out.

Welcome, Warriors, to The Power of God's Whisper Podcast. Today, we're diving into the power of Scripture in spiritual warfare. The Word of God isn't just ink on paper—it's a divine weapon, a sword forged by the Spirit Himself. When the enemy attacks, how do we stand firm? By wielding the Sword of the Spirit with boldness and authority. Our springboard for today's discussion is:"And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God." — Ephesians 6:17When Jesus faced temptation in the wilderness, He didn't argue, negotiate, or panic. He responded with, “It is written.” Every attack from Satan was met with the unshakable truth of God's Word (Matthew 4:1-11). He showed us that Scripture isn't just for reading—it's for battle. The enemy thrives on deception, but the Word of God is a sword that cuts through every lie. When doubt whispers, declare Romans 8:37—“We are more than conquerors through Him who loved us.” When fear creeps in, stand on Isaiah 41:10—“Fear not, for I am with you.” When temptation strikes, resist with 1 Corinthians 10:13—“God will provide a way of escape.”Speaking God's Word aloud isn't just a practice—it's warfare. It builds faith, strengthens the spirit, and pushes back the darkness. Every believer has access to this weapon. The question is—are you using it?Question of the Day: What Scripture do you declare in times of spiritual battle?Let's Pray: Lord, arm us with Your Word. Teach us to wield the Sword of the Spirit with wisdom and authority. Let Scripture be our defense against every attack of the enemy. Dwelling in the Word and letting the Word dwell in us richly is different than reading the Bible or reading a devotional with Bible passages. Let the Word of Christ dwell in you richly and return the favor by dwelling in the Word - not "doing" Bible study, not simply reading - but moving into the Word with heart, soul, mind, and strength. It's being intentional in making a shift from treating the Word of God like a self-help book to letting it dwell in us as the living Word of God that it is. Growing Deeper... Meditate on God’s Word Daily: Don’t just read the Bible—take time to meditate on it throughout your day. Reflect deeply on what you read, allowing the Scriptures to influence your thoughts, actions, and decisions. Commit Scripture to Memory: Memorize passages like Psalm 119:97-104 to keep God’s word close to your heart. This will help you have His wisdom readily available whenever you need guidance. Hey Warriors... Today, we're tackling a crucial topic: discerning the voice of God. How do we know if what we're hearing is from God, our own thoughts, or external influences? Understanding this can make a significant difference in our spiritual journey. We'll provide guidance on differentiating these voices, share biblical and theological insights on spiritual discernment. Our springboard for today's discussion is: John 10:27 - "My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me."Understanding how to discern God's voice is essential for every believer. In John 10:27, Jesus tells us that His sheep listen to His voice and follow Him. This implies that as His followers, we have the ability to recognize His voice. However, distinguishing between God's voice, our own thoughts, and external influences can be challenging.1. Recognizing God's VoiceGod's voice often comes with a sense of peace and alignment with His Word. When God speaks, His message will never contradict Scripture. It will also often be confirmed through circumstances, the counsel of other believers, and an inner sense of conviction.Biblical Insight:* Scripture Alignment: 2 Timothy 3:16-17 tells us that "All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work." Any message from God will be consistent with the Bible.* Peace and Conviction: Philippians 4:7 speaks of the peace of God that transcends all understanding, guarding our hearts and minds in Christ Jesus. God's voice often brings a profound sense of peace and clarity.2. Differentiating Personal ThoughtsOur own thoughts are influenced by our desires, fears, and experiences. While they can be insightful, they are not always aligned with God's will. Personal thoughts can be recognized by their alignment with our emotions and current mindset.Biblical Insight:* Self-examination: Proverbs 16:2 says, "All a person's ways seem pure to them, but motives are weighed by the Lord." It's important to examine our motives and consider whether our thoughts are self-centered or God-centered.3. Identifying External InfluencesExternal influences include the opinions of others, cultural norms, and spiritual opposition. These voices can often be loud and persuasive but may not align with God's truth.Biblical Insight:* Testing the Spirits: 1 John 4:1 advises, "Dear friends, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, because many false prophets have gone out into the world." This calls for discernment and testing against God's Word.Steps That You Can Take:Now, let's discuss practical steps you can take to discern God's voice more clearly.1. Immerse Yourself in ScriptureThe more familiar you are with God's Word, the easier it is to recognize His voice. Regular Bible reading and study help you understand God's character and His ways. Psalm 119:105 says, "Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path." Let Scripture illuminate your path and guide your decisions.2. Seek God in PrayerConsistent prayer is essential in discerning God's voice. In prayer, we communicate with God and open our hearts to His guidance. James 1:5 encourages us, "If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you." Ask God for wisdom and clarity.3. Consult with Trusted BelieversSeeking counsel from mature Christians can provide valuable insights and confirmation. Proverbs 15:22 states, "Plans fail for lack of counsel, but with many advisers, they succeed." Share your thoughts and experiences with those who have a strong relationship with God.Conclusion:Warriors, discerning God's voice is a skill we can develop with practice and patience. By immersing ourselves in Scripture, seeking God in prayer, and consulting with trusted believers, we can better recognize His voice amidst the noise. Remember, God desires to speak to us and guide us in His ways.Question of the Day: How can you better position yourself to hear and discern God's voice in your daily life?Let's Pray:Heavenly Father, thank You for speaking to us and guiding us. Help us to discern Your voice clearly amidst the noise of our thoughts and external influences. Give us wisdom and peace as we seek Your will. Teach us to rely on Your Word and the counsel of fellow believers. In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.Warriors, stay vigilant, stay prayerful, and always be ready to listen for God's voice. In a world that often celebrates self-promotion and personal gratification, Luke 9:23 calls us to a radically different lifestyle—one marked by self-denial, daily cross-bearing, and unwavering followship of Jesus. This scripture isn't just about the sacrifices involved in discipleship; it's about the profound peace and fulfillment that come from living under God's guidance. Embracing this verse fully requires a commitment to making daily decisions that align with God's will, demonstrating a maturity and responsibility that transcends conventional wisdom. Our springboard for today's discussion is: Luke 9:23 - "And he said to all, 'If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me.'"Jesus' instruction to His followers is clear and demanding. It involves a daily decision to forsake our own paths and instead embrace the path that He has laid out for us. This act of self-denial is not a one-time event but a continual process that aligns our will with God's and transforms our character. Each day presents new challenges and opportunities to affirm our commitment to Christ's lordship over our lives. By taking up our cross daily, we acknowledge that true responsibility in the Christian life is not about asserting our independence but about deepening our dependence on God.Focus Points for Integrating Self-Denial into Daily Life:* Start with Prayer: Begin each day with prayer, not only presenting your needs to God but also affirming your commitment to do His will. This daily renewal of your intention to follow Christ is crucial for focused discipleship.* Embrace Scriptural Guidance: Regularly study the Bible to understand the principles of the kingdom of God. Let Scripture shape your decisions and actions, using it as a roadmap for daily living.* Recognize and Reject Selfish Desires: Develop the habit of examining your motives. When faced with decisions, ask whether your choices align with your desires or God's desires. Choose the latter.* Seek Accountability: Share your journey of self-denial with fellow believers. Accountability partners can provide encouragement, prayer support, and wise counsel, helping you stay committed to your daily commitments.* Celebrate Spiritual Victories: Acknowledge and celebrate instances where your choice to deny yourself leads to spiritual growth and deeper fellowship with God. Recognizing these victories can reinforce your commitment to God's path. Conclusion: Taking responsibility for your life as a follower of Christ means more than managing your affairs; it involves a daily surrender of your will to God's will. Luke 9:23 challenges us to live out our faith with deliberate actions that reflect our allegiance to Jesus. It is through this daily practice of self-denial and cross-bearing that we truly find the life God intends for us—one marked by His peace and purpose.Call to Action: This week, identify one specific area in your life where self-denial is particularly challenging. Make a conscious effort each day to choose God's way over your own in this area. Keep a journal of your experiences and reflect on how these choices impact your spiritual growth.Question of the Day: What does taking up your cross daily mean to you personally, and how can you be more consistent in this practice?Let's Pray: Dear Lord, thank You for the clear call to follow You through self-denial and daily cross-bearing. Help us to embrace Your guidance with humility and obedience. Strengthen us each day to make decisions that honor You, and empower us to live out our discipleship with integrity and faithfulness. May our lives reflect Your love and truth to all around us. In Jesus' Name, Amen.As you face the challenges of each day, remember that each decision to deny yourself and follow Jesus is a step toward a more responsible, fulfilling life guided by the Spirit. The Apostle John writes, “And ye know that he was manifested to take away our sins; and in him is no sin” ( 1 John 3:5) and “For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that he might destroy the works of the devil” (1 John 3:8). Verse 8 is one of the many Scriptures in First John where Jesus is identified as the Son of God. As we ponder our Christmas theme, Why the Incarnation, one of the most remarkable thoughts is that Jesus Christ, The Word of God who is God, is also the Son of God who was manifested for our sins and to destroy the works of the devil. So the redemption of fallen man is the plan of God, not man. How important is it for a person to believe that Jesus Christ is The Son of God?Let Scripture speak for itself. “Whosoever shall confess that Jesus is the Son of God, God dwelleth in him, and he in God” ( 1 John 4:15). “These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God” (1 John 5:13). The very assurance of our forgiveness of sin and being set free from the grip of the devil is because it was none other than Jesus Christ, The Son of God who has done it. For those of you who have repented and trusted in the finished work of Jesus Christ for the salvation of your souls, let those biblical truths sink deep down in your souls this morning, beloved. You are forgiven. You have been released from the trap of the devil. We see in those two Scriptures two more purposes for why Jesus was manifested. (1) To take away our sins and (2) to destroy the works of the devil. Both sin and the devil are bent on our destruction, and God sent Jesus to destroy both sin and the works of the devil on our behalf. Our Heavenly Father sent His Son because we not only need to be forgiven and delivered from the debt of our sin; we also need to be delivered out of the kingdom of the devil. The kingdom of darkness.Jesus came because our salvation and our deliverance from the works of the devils depended upon Him. Salvation and deliverance from the works of the devil is a gift because there was no other way whereby we could be redeemed and rescued. Luke 19:10 says, “For the Son of man is come to seek and to save that which was lost”. When we forget why the Son of God came to this earth, we inevitably fall prey to the guilt and condemnation for our sins, which are two of the most effective fiery darts of the devil. Beloved, “And we know that the Son of God is come, and hath given us an understanding, that we may know him that is true, and we are in him that is true, even in his Son Jesus Christ. This is the true God, and eternal life” (1 John 5:20).Grace gives what someone doesn't deserve. That is why forgiveness has the word give in it. Forgiveness is not getting even. It is giving away the right to get even. God settled the debt of sin by laying it on His Son Jesus Christ. Thus, “To him give all the prophets witness, that through his name whosoever believeth in him shall receive remission of sins” (Acts 10:43). If we believe in Christ, God no longer holds our sins against us. “I, even I, am he that blotteth out thy transgressions for mine own sake, and will not remember thy sins” (Isaiah 43:25). Glory be to our God for the redemption that He has given unto us in Christ Jesus. SELAH
The words of the prophet Isaiah offered hope to Israel as they faced a hopeless exile. In chapter 9, verse 6 he calls the coming Messiah “Mighty God,” reminding God's people that the one who was coming to save them would be more powerful than anything they were experiencing. We now know that the Messiah Isaiah prophesied about is Jesus Christ. As we look toward Christmas, join us as we dig into Scripture to discover what the title “Mighty God” communicates to us about Jesus. Let Scripture reveal the truth of Christ's deeds and character, and explore with us how his presence as a helpless baby displays—not the smallness, but the awesomeness of God's power. Together we'll discover how the promise of our “Mighty God” continues to give us hope as we anticipate Christ's return.

What does scripture mean to you? Paul wrote to Timothy that the scriptures are able to make us wise to salvation and that they were useful for teaching, reproof, correction, and training. As believers, we must let the scriptures shape the way we see the world. "There is a way that seems right to man, but in the end it leads to death." Proverbs 14:12

It is perfectly true that God is both honored and dishonored by men- not in His essential being, but in His official character. It is equally true that God has been -glorified- by creation, by providence, and by redemption. This we do not and dare not dispute for a moment. But all of this has to do with His manifestative glory and the recognition of it by us. Yet had God so pleased He might have continued alone for all eternity, without making known His glory unto creatures. Whether He should do so or not was determined solely by His own will. He was perfectly blessed in Himself before the first creature was called into being. And what are all the creatures of His hands unto Him even now- Let Scripture again make answer- -Behold, the nations are as a drop of a bucket, and are counted as the small dust of the balance-

According to the popular ‘gap theory', the Genesis creation account can accommodate a history of millions of years in between the first two verses. But this attempt to squeeze millions of years into the Bible suffers from fatal flaws. The gap theory is inconsistent with its proponents' own interpretation of Ezekiel 28. There are further problems with the gap theory as well, including its ad hoc suppositions, its placement of death before the Fall, its downplaying of Noah's Flood, its violation of the Hebrew grammar in Genesis 1, and its opposition to Jesus' view of Genesis. The Bible is clear—there is no gap! This episode features Joel Tay and Keaton Halley. Creation.com Talk is produced by Joseph Darnell out of the CMI-USA studios. Your ability to interpret dreams is connected to your understanding of Scripture. One reason the prophet Daniel was so good at dream interpretation was that he immersed himself in the laws of God. Let Scripture inform your thinking and build your capacity to understand what God is saying.

Scripture must dwell richly in us as individuals and a group. If we are rich in scripture, there will be health and depth in our community while individuals are shaped by God’s word. If we are poor in scripture, then souls will remain less useful for God and the fellowship will not promote health.

Daniel 9:1-23As an overarching theme for this sermon series we will consider Peter's conclusion regarding eschatology and daily life: 2 Peter 3:11-18. Eschatology is not intended to be informational, but transformational as it gives the believer incredible hope and trust in God.Perhaps this is most clear in Daniel's interruption of his visions in chapter 9 to share a deep and personal prayer - one that is borne out of Scriptural obedience, dependence on God's character and identification with God's covenant people. “The first year of Darius” has been a contentious opening sentence for decades, as ancient records have proven that Xerxes I was the ruler of the Medo-Persian empire - and he was from Persia. Two strikes against the record of Daniel.Darius means “he who holds the scepter” and is likely a title, rather than a proper name. In 547 BC Xerxes managed to unite the tribes of Media and Persia against the Lydian empire in the west (modern-day Turkey). He accomplished a major victory against Croesus in Thymbra, even though he was outnumbered 2:1. Xerxes laid siege against its capital, Sardis, which capitulated 14 days later. Thus Lydia became the first of three empires to fall to the bear (the three ribs in its mouth - Daniel 7). Xerxes set his sights on Babylon and conquered its mighty capitol in 539 BC (Daniel 5).The Nabonidus Chronicle names two generals in this conquest of Babylon: Ugbaru en Gobryas. The Cyrus cylinder indicates that Xerxes marched on from Babylon to strengthen his Northeastern border. He left Ugbaru as governor of Babylon. He died three weeks later and Gobryas became governor for at least fourteen years. This is the man that transitioned the Babylonian monarchy to Persian rule with 120 Satraps and 3 commissioners. This is the man Daniel calls Darius, de Mede (6:1), charged with ruling the Kingdom of the Chaldeans (9:1), and who served under King Xerxes (6:29).So the setting for chapter 9 is a change of power and politics - unsettling times... times that result in the lion's den conspiracy of chapter 6.Biblical Promises and PrayerDaniel was studying the prophet Jeremiah in chapters 25, 27 and 29. Here God confirms that the captivity will last seventy years. 538 BC is also the year of Xerxes' proclamation recorded in 2 Chronicles 36 and Ezra 1 releasing the Jews back to their land.Jeremia 29:11-14 prompts Daniel to dramatically turn to God for mercy. He prays this beautiful prayer of penitence and exultation as he humbles himself before God - with fasting and in ashes. As I was studying this text I read the following by John Piper:"The weakness of our hunger for God is not because he is unsavory, but because we keep ourselves stuffed with “other things.” Perhaps, then, the denial of our stomach's appetite for food might express, or even increase, our soul's appetite for God." (John Piper, A hunger for God)Daniel's is a humble attitude. He brings himself low, mourning for the sins of his people which brought about this terrible consequence and fasting to “search for [God] with all his heart” (Jeremiah 29:13). This seriousness about God is what I believe prompts Gabriel's address in Daniel 9:23: “you are highly esteemed”. So much of what Daniel does and says here is instructive to us - especially the simple obedience to what he reads in Scripture and the seriousness wherewith he approaches God. I have chosen five applications to share with you this morning:1. Let Scripture enrich your prayer life with His promises and bow “before His face”. (:2-3 en 3a, 20)2. Let God's character anchor your prayers in a strong dependence (trust) on Him. (9:4, 7, 9, 14, 16 en 18)3. Enlarge your need for God without minimizing your sin and accept consequences. (9:5-8, 9-11a, 11b-14 cf. Deut. 28-29)4. Promote UNITY by identifying with each other's guilt and shame and to be priests for one another. (9:5-16 ~ third person)5. Seek Him “with all your heart” with the conviction that “He will be found” because He loves you. (9:3, 20-23a, Jer. 29:10-14 ~ cf. Rom. 8)Do you acknowledge as Daniel does that He is the most high God?

More Than a Song - Discovering the Truth of Scripture Hidden in Today's Popular Christian Music
No matter what, once you truly belong to Jesus, you are HIS, and if you are HIS you will remain HIS. This does not mean a perfect life, but one that is marked with evidence and imperfect progress walking in newness of life and not returning to a life of death. Ryan Stevenson sings of this question in his song "No Matter What" and it leads us to examine a letter from Paul and Timothy to the Colossians. Physical adultery and marital unfaithfulness is no longer the rare case in society or in the church. And considering the easy access to sexual content that our technologies have brought us mental adultery is exploding all around us. What is the solution to this problem? Let Scripture speak into our lives through this powerful message.
