1 Samuel 30:22 NLT: But some troublemakers among David's men said, "They didn't go with us, so they can't have any of the plunder. Give them their wives and children, and tell them to be gone." Matthew 25:1-13 (AMP) Then the kingdom of heaven will be like ten virgins, who took their lamps and went to [a]meet the bridegroom. 2 Five of them were foolish [thoughtless, silly, and careless], and five were wise [far-sighted, practical, and sensible]. 3 For when the foolish took their lamps, they did not take any [extra] oil with them, 4 but the wise took flasks of oil along with their lamps. 5 Now while the bridegroom was delayed, they all began to nod off, and they fell asleep. 6 But at midnight there was a shout, ‘Look! The bridegroom [is coming]! Go out to meet him.' 7 Then all those virgins got up and put their own lamps in order [trimmed the wicks and added oil and lit them]. 8 But the foolish virgins said to the wise, ‘Give us some of your oil, because our lamps are going out.' 9 But the wise replied, ‘No, otherwise there will not be enough for us and for you, too; go instead to the dealers and buy oil for yourselves.' 10 But while they were going away to buy oil, the bridegroom came, and those who were ready went in with him to the wedding feast; and the door was shut and locked. 11 Later the others also came, and said, ‘Lord, Lord, open [the door] for us.' 12 But He replied, ‘I assure you and most solemnly say to you, I do not know you [we have no relationship].' 13 Therefore, be on the alert [be prepared and ready], for you do not know the day nor the hour [when the Son of Man will come]. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/keisha17/message
The Holy Spirit #3 - By Pastor George Lehman Destitute of the fire of the Holy Spirit of God – nothing else counts. Possessing the fire of the Holy Spirit, nothing else matters. Trying to do the Lord's work in your own strength is the most confusing, exhausting, and tedious of all work, but when you are filled with the Holy Spirit then the ministry of Jesus just flows out of you. -Corrie Ten Boom This is a clear sign of the presence of the Holy Spirit in a person's life. 1 Thessalonians 5:23 (Amp) – And may the God of peace Himself sanctify you through and through [separate you from profane* things, make you pure and wholly consecrated to God]; and may your spirit and soul and body be preserved sound and complete [and found] blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ (the Messiah). *profane = worldly, things that disrespect God The human personality: Spirit, Soul, and Body. I'm sure we would all agree that spirit, soul, and body make up the complete human personality. Genesis 1:26 (Amp) – God said, Let Us [Father, Son, and Holy Spirit] make mankind in Our image, after Our likeness, and let them have complete authority over the fish of the sea, the birds of the air, the [tame] beasts, and over all of the earth, and over everything that creeps upon the earth. Notice: In IMAGE and after LIKENESS. Image refers to outward appearance thus something in man's outward appearance mirrors the outward appearance of God. After Likeness refers to the internal structure of the Godhead - Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Man's spirit, soul and body correspond to the three components of the Trinity. The internal structure of the human personality is traceable to God's creation of man. The human spirit proceeds from God's breath. Genesis 2:7 (Amp) – Then the Lord God formed man from the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath or spirit of life, and man became a living being. Hebrew & Greek word for Spirit & breath are the same. The body was clay infused with divine life to become Adam. Fully Spirit, Soul and Body The soul is perhaps the most difficult component to understand. The part in us that determines… “I will” or “I won't” The soul comprises of Will, Emotions and Intellect and produces 3 corresponding types “I want” “I feel” “I think” These statements rule the life of the natural, sinful man. It's all about Me, Myself and I. Surrendering to these demands of the soul instead of being guided by God's Spirit – you separate yourself from God. Sin brings death to Adam – not physical but spiritual death. When we repent, God forgives our sins and renews our spirits. The Spirit takes up residence in us! Ephesians 2:1-3 (Amp) – And you [He made alive], when you were dead (slain) by [your] trespasses and sins in which at one time you walked [habitually]. You were following the course and fashion of this world [were under the sway of the tendency of this present age], following the prince of the power of the air. [You were obedient to and under the control of] the [demon] spirit that still constantly works in the sons of disobedience [the careless, the rebellious, and the unbelieving, who go against the purposes of God]. Among these we as well as you once lived and conducted ourselves in the passions of our flesh [our behavior governed by our corrupt and sensual nature], obeying the impulses of the flesh and the thoughts of the mind [our cravings dictated by our senses and our dark imaginings]. We were then by nature children of [God's] wrath and heirs of [His] indignation, like the rest of mankind. From rebellion to salvation Ephesians 2:4-6 (Amp) – But God—so rich is He in His mercy! Because of and in order to satisfy the great and wonderful and intense love with which He loved us, Even when we were dead (slain) by [our own] shortcomings and trespasses, He made us alive together in fellowship and in union with Christ; [He gave us the very life of Christ Himself, the same new life with which He quickened Him, for] it is by grace (His favor and mercy which you did not deserve) that you are saved (delivered from judgment and made partakers of Christ's salvation). And He raised us up together with Him and made us sit down together [giving us joint seating with Him] in the heavenly sphere [by virtue of our being] in Christ Jesus (the Messiah, the Anointed One). Salvation won't preserve our physical bodies – but it does make them temples for the Holy Spirit. 2 Corinthians 4:16(NIV) – Therefore we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day. How we treat our bodies then, is very important, it has an important function. 1 Corinthians 6:19-20 (Amp) – Do you not know that your body is the temple (the very sanctuary) of the Holy Spirit Who lives within you, Whom you have received [as a Gift] from God? You are not your own, You were bought with a price [purchased with a preciousness and paid for, made His own]. So then, honor God and bring glory to Him in your body. When we receive salvation, our spirits are made alive, our souls are reconciled to God and our bodies are made temples for the Holy Spirit. Functions of Spirit, Soul and Body. Spirit: Our spirit is capable of communicating directly with God and worshipping Him, as confirmed in… 1 Corinthians 6:17 (Amp) – But the person who is united to the Lord becomes one spirit with Him. 2 Timothy 1:7(NKJV) - For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind. Neither soul nor body can unite with God. The spirit alone is capable of uniting with God. John 4:23-24 (Amp) – A time will come, however, indeed it is already here, when the true (genuine) worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and in truth (reality); for the Father is seeking just such people as these as His worshipers. God is a Spirit (a spiritual Being) and those who worship Him must worship Him in spirit and in truth (reality). Soul: The soul's function is to make decisions and, regeneration[vernuwing] enables the soul to make right decisions. Psalm 103:1 (NIV) – Praise the Lord, my soul; all my inmost being, praise his holy name. David's spirit is telling his soul what to do. His spirit senses the need to ‘bless the Lord' but it requires activation by his soul to execute this need. Eg. Like a gear lever on a car. Turn the key, start the engine, but to make it move you must shift it into drive. It's often difficult to distinguish soul from spirit. The ONLY effective and sharp tool is - THE WORD. Hebrews 4:12 (NIV) – For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart. The difference between mature and immature Christians… Hebrews 5:11-14 (Msg) – I have a lot more to say about this, but it is hard to get it across to you since you've picked up this bad habit of not listening. By this time you ought to be teachers yourselves, yet here I find you need someone to sit down with you and go over the basics on God again, starting from square one-—baby's milk, when you should have been on solid food long ago! Milk is for beginners, inexperienced in God's ways; solid food is for the mature, who have some practice in telling right from wrong. Body There's a marked difference between “Spiritual” and “Soulish” in relation to the body as described in the New Testament. Paul says… 1 Corinthians 15:44-50a (NIV) – 44It is sown a natural body, it is raised a spiritual body. If there is a natural body, there is also a spiritual body. 45So, it is written: “The first man Adam became a living being”; the last Adam, a life-giving spirit. 46The spiritual did not come first, but the natural, and after that the spiritual. 47The first man was of the dust of the earth; the second man is of heaven. 48As was the earthly man, so are those who are of the earth; and as is the heavenly man, so also are those who are of heaven. 49And just as we have borne the image of the earthly man, so shall we bear the image of the heavenly man. 50I declare to you, brothers and sisters, that flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God, What does it mean to be an “earthly soulish man”? From a Christian's standpoint, earthly individuals focus on our earthly life and nothing more, nothing beyond. Soulish people are egocentric, concerned exclusively with themselves; it's about my comforts, my likes my dislikes, my feelings my convenience. “I do it my way.” It's about what God can do for me and not what I can do for God. 1 Corinthians 2:14-15 (NIV) – The person without the Spirit does not accept the things that come from the Spirit of God but considers them foolishness and cannot understand them because they are discerned only through the Spirit. The person with the Spirit makes judgments about all things, but such a person is not subject to merely human judgments, Spirit-filled believers produce fruit. Luke 3:8a (Amp) – Bear fruits that are deserving and consistent with [your] repentance [that is, conduct worthy of a heart changed, a heart abhorring sin]. They ask, “How can I glorify God? How can I best serve God?” Pleasing God is their 1st priority. They have a confidence and a boldness that they are children of God. Romans 8:14-16 (Amp) – For all who are led by the Spirit of God are sons of God. For [the Spirit which] you have now received [is] not a spirit of slavery to put you once more in bondage to fear, but you have received the Spirit of adoption [the Spirit producing sonship] in [the bliss of] which we cry, Abba (Father)! Father! The Spirit Himself [thus] testifies together with our own spirit, [assuring us] that we are children of God. We can have absolute assurance in this scripture. 1 Thessalonians 5:23-24 (NIV) – May God himself, the God of peace, sanctify you through and through. May your whole spirit, soul and body be kept blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. The one who calls you is faithful, and he will do it. Being ready when Jesus comes in Spirit Soul and Body one day is not optional *****
Today let's take a look at the book of Joshua. This book of the Bible is amazing. If you haven't read it in a while, or possibly ever, well a lot of people don't read that much of the OT (for a lot of reasons) but I have learned so, so much about who my God truly is in the OT. It's a really wonderful book of the Bible. So, Joshua chapter 8 verse 18 - and we are looking at this verse in the AMP today. Joshua 8:18 - AMP - Then the LORD said to Joshua, “Reach out with the spear that is in your hand (and point it) toward Ai, for I will give it into your hand.” So Joshua reached out with the spear in his hand (and pointed it) toward the city. It is remarkable to read the LORD speaking to Joshua in this verse. It sort of stops me in my tracks in a way when I see the Lord speaking to anyone! It's a big deal! And I don't think Joshua took it lightly - I think the sum total of His life proves that he did not ever take lightly the things of the Lord. Joshua was a listener. He listened well to His God. But starting off this verse with those words, Then the LORD said to Joshua, makes it personal. Don't forget that He is a personal God for you and for me. Then the Lord tells Joshua to take the spear that was already in his hand and stretch it out toward Ai. (Ai was the city they needed to take in battle, militarily, next). He may tell us at times to pick something up or to lay something down - He is our God, He is both Lord and Savior, so He has the right of way in every aspect of our lives, right? So yeah He can say pick up this and lay down that and so on. But He also will at times ask you to use what is already in your hand. What is in your hand today? For me, it is often a book or a pen. For most of us, a phone is in our hands a lot. But I am not sure that God's very best for His dearly loved children is to be mind linked and sucked into a device all of the live long day, ya know? So before you say I know what's in my hand! My phone! Just hold tight for a second and ask Him if the phone were not in your hand all the time what would be in your hand? I am not knocking anybody here - I am as guilty as the next person and I pretty much always know where my phone is (although sometimes I go out to run errands or take a long drive and I leave it at home on my desk on purpose so I can remind myself that there was a time we lived just fine, thank you very much, with no access to a phone. I was not afraid to drive across the country without a cellular phone. I remember it being referred to like this “answer the phone!” and not “let me check my phone”. The phone vs my phone. In my teen years it would have seemed pretty weird to say my phone rather than the phone. And so now and then I like to go backwards a bit, go old school, the old guard, and leave my phone by the wayside. So, no judgment from me on this - but I do caution you from thinking that the automatic answer to the question What is in your hand? Is “my phone”. Only allow that to be the answer if the Lord makes it really clear that it's the answer. Think about what might be in your hand if your phone wasn't. Joshua's answer would have been, obviously because the verse tells us, a spear. So what is the spear that is in your hand today? What would you say is a key part, an integral part of who you are? Who you really are, not maybe who you have been told you are or feel like some expectation is on you to be. What is the spear you are already holding, a part of who you are, your God created identity that is intended by Him to be used for His Kingdom purposes? Are we taking the things, all the varied and beautiful and amazing things that are in all of our varied and beautiful amazing lives, pointing them at the enemy and then seeing God move there? Like, right there? Does that sound like - whew, way out there? Or does it kind of get you a little bit excited, like Yeah! Yes, I am here to make a Kingdom difference and so is she and so is he and so is my small group and so is my bff and and and. Because you are here to make a difference. If you know Jesus personally, then you are here to make a difference. And if any part of you kind of feels like MEH - she is a bit off today in this episode, Jan is reaching here, I don't think all of us are here to make a difference, that's a pretty sweeping and broad statement - well, I would point you to the NT book of John, chapters 14 15 16 specifically and just by reading say John 15, I think you would have a hard time not seeing that you and all who are in Christ, are here to make a difference for the Kingdom of our God. It's not beyond you because Jesus said it is the way it ought to be. Joshua had a call on his life. He had a calling. When it was time to step up, he did. Now I don't see evidence in the Bible that he was trying to step up before it was time, but every time it was time he was right there, ready and willing. And we have info about Joshua and his life in more than just the book of Joshua - we see him in Exodus and in Deuteronomy and Joshua. He was always ready because he was always willing to do what God said to do. So pointing the spear in the exact direction the Lord told him to point it was easy peasy lemon squeezy for him because he already had the spear in his hand. The more you do the things God says to do, the easier it is to keep doing the things God says to do. (Can I say that again? It's so true!) Say it again So what is the promise here? Let me skip down in chapter 8 of the book of Joshua and read verse 26 - “For Joshua did not withdraw his hand with which he stretched out the spear until he had utterly destroyed the inhabitants of Ai.” Joshua listened for the Lord and then when the Lord spoke he listened to the Lord. He did as the Lord said. And he finished it. With totality. Not with partiality. (sometimes I finish with more partial-ness than total-ness and when I do that, well, I am flat wrong). He just kept holding out that spear that was in his hand, directly toward Ai, the next place they were told by God to conquer, and he did not withdraw his hand until it was done. The word Utterly here is fitting. You have anything you need to be done with utterly? Have something you know God wants you to do but you are doing it partially and not totally? That's okay! What won't really be just okay is if you hear God's Word today and then keep on not doing that thing totally. Don't be partial anymore. Be total. Be utterly. Sometimes we have got to do the thing God wants us to do and then the victory comes. That's the promise I find here. To not be so afraid anymore. To just do the thing, Jan, and do it utterly. To slay the beast of partiality in my life and just do that thing with some ferocity, with totality. Don't put that thing down just yet, my friend. God may have placed it in your hand for this exact season, for such a time as this. Don't even lower it. Keep your eye on the prize. That which the Lord has called you to point at the enemy, listen, until the enemy and all the inhabitants of the enemy's domain are utterly destroyed - keep pointing and don't drop your arm or even lower your arm a little teeny bit. Make giving up a non-option. And believe that the utterly will come as you do the pointing at the enemy with what's already in your hand for Kingdom work. That's a great promise, isn't it? Be a Joshua in our generation and see what God might do! Lord bless you as you continue to live believing God's promises are true for you - because they really, truly are! Jan L. Obedience the key. Whoever strives to withdraw from obedience*, withdraws from grace. Thomas A Kempis (You've got to want to dis-obey)* By Pastor George Lehman What's in my power to do; is in my power not to do. What is it you want to achieve in your walk with God? Question: What do you have to do? What needs changing? What must you lay down? What must you pick up… to live a live of obedience? Obedience unites us so closely to God that in a way transforms us into Him so that we have no other will but His. If obedience is lacking, even prayer cannot be pleasing to God. St .Thomas Paul teaching the Romans about time leaving the old life: Romans 6:16-17 (Amp) - Do you not know that if you continually surrender yourselves to anyone to do his will, you are the slaves of him whom you obey, whether that be to sin, which leads to death, or to obedience which leads to righteousness (right doing and right standing with God)? But thank God, though you were once slaves of sin, you have become obedient with all your heart to the standard of teaching in which you were instructed and to which you were committed. God and His word are intensely practical – all of the great general principles in the Kingdom of God are specific. God is never vague He doesn't play hide and seek. God leaves no room for mere slack, compromising Christianity. A feel-good message won't help you if you're not obedient. Jesus' most harsh words were not to the broken and degraded sinner who was judged and condemned by society. It was for the self-righteous and self-deceived people whose lives did not prove their claims to holiness, love and a real relationship with God. They spoke obedience but lived dis-obedience. Jesus called such people fools, hypocrites, snakes, whitewashed tombs. Seven times He referred to them as blind. Three times He called them vipers. Clearly these were strong words for those who failed to practice their professed spirituality. Perhaps the best illustration of this is the bible's emphasis upon obedience. An importance highlighted in both the Old and the New Testament. The message of God is plain… Measure your life by how much you obey… Not how much you know, how much you do, how much you read the bible. Measure your life by what you actually do. Obedience the key. #1 Obedience is the key to cleansing and holiness. There is NO other way to maintain a holy life except to walk constantly in God's light. (The light is obedience.) 1 John 1:7 (Amp) - But if we [really] are living and walking in the Light, as He [Himself] is in the Light, we have [true, unbroken] fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanses (removes) us from all sin and guilt [keeps us cleansed from sin in all its forms and manifestations]. Keep clean by obeying God. To claim to have fellowship while deliberately disobeying God is to walk in darkness and lie. 1 John 1:6 (Amp) - [So] if we say we are partakers together and enjoy fellowship with Him when we live and move and are walking about in darkness, we are [both] speaking falsely and do not live and practice the Truth [which the Gospel presents]. #2 Obedience is the key to confidence in prayer. 1 John 3:21-22 (Amp) - And, beloved, if our consciences (our hearts) do not accuse us [if they do not make us feel guilty and condemn us], we have confidence (complete assurance and boldness) before God*, 22. And we receive from Him whatever we ask, because we [watchfully] obey His orders [observe His suggestions and injunctions, follow His plan for us] and [habitually] practice what is pleasing to Him. *Before God – we maintain a clear conscience by walking in obedience to God. ‘Oh', how we, by failing to walk in the light cripple our prayer. ‘Oh', the unanswered prayers because the praying person is not living in obedience to God's light. #3 Obedience is the key to blessing. Do you want to be blessed in every part of your life? God pours out His blessings on those who are eager and active in obedience. James 1:25 (Amp) - But he who looks carefully into the faultless law, the [law] of liberty, and is faithful to it and perseveres in looking into it, being not a heedless listener who forgets but an active doer [who obeys], he shall be blessed in his doing (his life of obedience). Job 36:11 (Amp) - If they obey and serve Him, they shall spend their days in prosperity and their years in pleasantness and joy. Proverbs 10:22(KJV) – The blessing of the Lord makes one rich, and He adds no sorrow with it. There are so many Christians who are fruitless in ministry – dry and unproductive: Because of disobedience in practical matters like tithing, disciplining their lives to find time to pray and read the bible. No promise is automatically fulfilled – scripture is clear on this: “Obey and you will receive”. Jesus gave us an example of a life of obedience. Hebrews 10:7 (NIV) - Then I said, ‘Here I am—it is written about me in the scroll—I have come to do your will, O God.'” The obedience of Jesus was not an act of obedience now and then or even a series of acts. It was the spirit of His whole life. The one all-controlling power of His life was obedience. There are two forms of obedience. You and I are responsible for two forms of obedience. Obedience to God's general commands. 2. Obedience to God's personalized commands. God's requirements, as taught in His word, are for every person. We are responsible to obey them. Can I just say this, “If it is in God's word, you need no further guidance. That settles it!” Forgiveness of others. Living in purity and holiness. Loving others. Speaking no evil of others. Tithing Children obey your parents. These and many more are matters of obedience according to God's word for every believer. Some of God's requirements, on the other hand, are very personal. God may give you personal convictions about things or something. He is calling you to obedience that He requires of you, not of everyone. He may call you to a special time of prayer and fasting. Maybe a sacrificial giving to God's Kingdom or to bless someone. Maybe God has called you to lay down something so you can give your full attention to His work. Abraham's obedience was tested in an intensely personal manner by demanding that he offer Isaac to God. The prophets Isaiah, Jeremiah and Jonah... Isaiah 6:8 (Amp) - Also I heard the voice of the Lord, saying, Whom shall I send? And who will go for Us? Then said I, Here am I; send me. Jeremiah 1:9-10 (Amp) - Then the Lord put forth His hand and touched my mouth. And the Lord said to me, Behold, I have put My words in your mouth. See, I have this day appointed you to the oversight of the nations and of the kingdoms to root out and pull down, to destroy and to overthrow, to build and to plant. Jonah 1:1-2 (Amp) - Now the word of the lord came to Jonah son of Amittai, saying, arise, go to Nineveh, that great city, and proclaim against it, for their wickedness has come up before me. Jonah 3:1-3 (Amp) - And the word of the Lord came to Jonah the second time, saying, Arise, go to Nineveh, that great city, and preach and cry out to it the preaching that I tell you. So Jonah arose and went to Nineveh according to the word of the Lord. Now Nineveh was an exceedingly great city of three days' journey [sixty miles in circumference]. They key to a victorious, significant, effective, joyful, guilt free, condemned free life is... Daily obedience to do the will of God in every detail of your life. Are you going to Take up the KEY of Obedience? And your final answer is? Matthew 28:18-20 – 18Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. 19Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely, I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” *****
The plan for episode 64 is simply to speak God's living and active word over you today and to stress (think about those grammar stress marks, they tell you which part of a word to stress in order to pronounce it correctly - well I hope to stress some stuff & to pronounce some things correctly over your life, and over my life, what God has in store for us). To emphasize what could use some emphasizing right about now. Let's first off look at what Jeremiah 29:13 says. As I read, would you sort of listen for the promise? I have found, for me personally, that when I am really looking for, searching for, listening for a promise from God's Word - I find one. So as I read, just be sure to hear what the Lord God Almighty, the One who was and is and is to come, the King of kings and Lord of lords, what He has to say to you today. Jeremiah 29:13 AMP - Then (with a deep longing) you will seek Me and require Me (as a vital necessity) and (you will) find Me when you search for Me with all your heart. What a beautiful, comforting verse. It almost seems to usher in a cool and gentle wind of peacefulness. And hope, too. Psalm 86:5 from the AMP says this: For You, O LORD, are good, and ready to forgive (our sins, sending them away, completely letting them go forever and ever); and abundant in lovingkindness and overflowing in mercy to all those who call upon You. This verse, it's like one long hope-filled string of words. It reminds us that God is good - and when we stand in prayer about something, whenever we lean in to see a promise He has made to us, we do well to remember how good He is. And to remember that He cannot be any less good or anything but good. Our God Is Good Always and in All Ways. And He is ready to forgive our sins. God is ready to forgive. He is standing right now at the ready to forgive. Can we even really understand how amazing, how truly awesome, this is? When He forgives, He sends our sins away - He completely lets them go forever and ever. That is your promise today. Need a new start? God's offering it to you right here. Are you making these promises your very own today? Because you are who they are for! Acts 2:18 is one more verse with promise for us today. Again, reading from the AMP & it says - Even on My bond servants, both men and women, I will in those days pour out My Spirit and they shall prophesy. Whether you are a male or female, God has a place for you. Where you fit. And in that place, you can do what He has called and equipped you to do. And you can expect to bear fruit, spiritual fruit, that lasts. Be bonded to Jesus, be His bond servant day by day, and I tell you what, I would really have a hard time believing He will not ever ever ever pour out His Spirit on you and on your life, lead and guide you, show you real world things to do and words to say that will bless and encourage and make a real, tangible, actual difference in the lives of people. He can do it in the grocery store or in line at a theme park or via a text you send or on a Facebook live you get bold enough to finally do or at your workplace or on a Zoom call or in your front yard with the kiddo who zips around on his bike each evening. Luke 12:1, part b of the verse, AMP - Jesus began speaking first of all to His disciples, “Be continually on your guard against the leaven of the Pharisees (that is, their pervasive, corrupting influence and teaching), which is hypocrisy (producing self-righteousness).” I realized how easy it is to do this, to be a Pharisee, to have this corrupt and pervasive junk in my life by means of - well let me use the word principle. If I am a person of principle, if that is what I say about me, what I speak over myself, then I suppose I am living by principles and am governed by those principles. And whoa there, then have those principles become law for me? And how can I be easily led by the Holy Spirit if I am primarily a person of these certain principles. Am I willing to ask the Lord to uproot any footings under my foundation that lend to legalism - Pharisee-ism - lack of freedom? Just a few things that stood out to me as I read from the book of Luke this week & I sure want to be as free as Jesus wants me to be --- so I am willing to lay aside rules and regulations that get in the way of living a Spirit-led life of freedom in Christ! Thanks so much for stopping by The Burt (Not Ernie) Show & I hope you are living a life of freedom in Christ & grabbing hold of all the promises God has made to you! ~ Jan L. Unshakable Is this how you would describe your Spiritual life? (Your life cannot go according to plan if you have no plan.) What are you doing daily to ensure you live Unshakable? By: Pastor George Lehman NB! What you put in; you get out. Hebrews 12:26-27 (Amp) - Then [at Mount Sinai] His voice shook the earth, but now He has given a promise: Yet once more I will shake and make tremble not only the earth but also the [starry] heavens. Now this expression, Yet once more, indicates the final removal and transformation of all [that can be] shaken-that is, of that which has been created--in order that what cannot be shaken may remain and continue. (Jesus in us makes us unshakable) This is only for those: - Who are facing challenges. - Unnecessary surprises that come to destroy. - Disappointments, - Discouragement and failures. When your world is shaken where do you stand? When things go wrong do you go with them? David was a man who understood life-shaking experiences. Acts 13:22 (Amp) – And when He had removed him, He raised up David to be their king: of him He testified and said, “I have found David the son of Jesse, a man after My Own heart [conforming to My will and purposes], who will do all My will.” Life had thrown all types of pressures at him: failure, success, betrayal, attack, fear, hope, discouragement, loss of vision, natural & spiritual Goliaths. Like David we must learn how to renew our strength; how to find our help in God and how to stand strong. Psalm 27 is David’s faith declaration for seasons of shaking. We will learn from the principles he lived by when life was unexplainable and overwhelming. In Psalm 27 we will learn how David built an unshakable life on the unshakable word of God. There are 7 declarations from Psalm 27 for our life’s journey. 7 declarations for an unshakable life: I will live life strong. 2. I will love God’s house. 3. I will hold my head high. 4. I will have an overflowing heart. 5. I will turn to God at all times. 6. I will walk on a level path, not crooked ones 7. I will not lose heart. Psalm 27 (Amp) - The LORD is my light and my salvation— whom shall I fear? The LORD is the stronghold of my life— of whom shall I be afraid? When evil men advance against me to devour my flesh, when my enemies and my foes attack me, they will stumble and fall. Though an army besiege me, my heart will not fear; though war break out against me, even then will I be confident. One thing I ask of the LORD, this is what I seek: that I may dwell in the house of the LORD all the days of my life, to gaze upon the beauty of the LORD and to seek him in his temple. For in the day of trouble he will keep me safe in his dwelling; he will hide me in the shelter of his tabernacle and set me high upon a rock. Then my head will be exalted above the enemies who surround me; at his tabernacle will I sacrifice with shouts of joy; I will sing and make music to the LORD. Hear my voice when I call, O LORD; be merciful to me and answer me. My heart says of you, "Seek his face!" Your face, LORD, I will seek. Do not hide your face from me, do not turn your servant away in anger; you have been my helper. Do not reject me or forsake me, O God my Savior. Though my father and mother forsake me, the LORD will receive me. Teach me your way, O LORD; lead me in a straight path because of my oppressors. Do not turn me over to the desire of my foes, for false witnesses rise up against me, breathing out violence. I am still confident of this: I will see the goodness of the LORD in the land of the living. Wait for the LORD; be strong and take heart and wait for the LORD. An unshakable life is built on the unshakable word of God. It becomes a life that is anchored, immovable and indestructible. One sure thing about life is, it’s constant uncertainty. Life changes all around us and some of the changes shatter our world: Bad news from a doctor. Job lay-off Death of a loved one. A business ending in bankruptcy. Our heart secrets exposed. Someone disappoints us. This unshakable, immovable life is not a life without problems. But a life lived above these problems through a living faith in God and His word. If we are going to live the unshakable life, we are going to have to learn to fill our heart and mouth with unshakable declarations; built on scriptures. Ground-shaking earthquakes. In 1995 a disaster struck Kobe, Japan. It injured 33 000; Killed 5 470; Left 300 000 homeless Destroyed 144 000 buildings What caused this massive devastation? The ground shook for only 20 seconds. Because of devastating earthquakes like these, scientists have been working on techniques to build earthquake resistant buildings. The goal is to build buildings that have the strength, flexibility and a proper foundation to withstand the forces of nature. So too we need to build unshakable lives on a foundation that will withstand world forces. Luke 6:46-48(Amp) - Why do you call Me, Lord, Lord, and do not [practice] what I tell you? For everyone who comes to Me and listens to My words [in order to heed their teaching] and does them, I will show you what he is like: He is like a man building a house, who dug and went down deep and laid a foundation upon the rock; and when a flood arose, the torrent broke against that house and could not shake or move it, because it had been securely built or founded on a rock. We are building our life everyday – no one can build for you. You build by the decisions you make; the character you develop; the attitudes you cultivate. If you want an unshakable life, you have to DIG DEEP and lay your foundation on THE ROCK. Life-shaking tests and trials. Tests and trials prove the worth of something. 1 Corinthians 3:12-15 (Amp) - But if anyone builds upon the Foundation, whether it be with gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, straw, The work of each [one] will become [plainly, openly] known (shown for what it is); for the day [of Christ] will disclose and declare it, because it will be revealed with fire, and the fire will test and critically appraise the character and worth of the work each person has done. If the work which any person has built on this Foundation [any product of his efforts whatever] survives [this test], he will get his reward. But if any person's work is burned up [under the test], he will suffer the loss [of it all, losing his reward], though he himself will be saved, but only as [one who has passed] through fire. Tests come to reveal the quality of the foundation. It’s not to destroy the foundation, but to establish its strength. True values surface after spiritual tests. God wants only the genuine part to remain. The part that continues to trust Him. 1 Peter 1:6-7(Amp) - [You should] be exceedingly glad on this account, though now for a little while you may be distressed by trials and suffer temptations, So that [the genuineness] of your faith may be tested, [your faith] which is infinitely more precious than the perishable gold which is tested and purified by fire. [This proving of your faith is intended] to redound* to [your] praise and glory and honor when Jesus Christ (the Messiah, the Anointed One) is revealed. * redound = to your credit or advantage Trials expose the content of our hearts. Deuteronomy 8:2(Amp) - And you shall [earnestly] remember all the way which the Lord your God led you these forty years in the wilderness, to humble you and to prove you, to know what was in your [mind and] heart, whether you would keep His commandments or not. To live an unshakable life, we need to speak out. “Faith declarations”. Over these next few weeks let us make a point of watching what we speak. Matthew 12:34 - Jesus says: Out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks. Words have power over your life and your future. Words have creative power: Power to do good or to do harm; power to give life or power to destroy. Fill your mouth with the unshakable word of God and begin to speak it daily. Believing the word is not enough; you must declare it and speak it. Hebrews 4:14(Amp) – In as much then as we have a great High Priest Who has [already] ascended and passed through the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our confession [of faith in Him]. [Greek] Hold fast: To cause something to continue happening on the basis of some authority or power. It’s not a one-time thing, it’s an on-going HABIT. Psalm 141:3(Amp) - Set a guard, O Lord, before my mouth; keep watch at the door of my lips. Proverbs 13:3(Amp) - He who guards his mouth keeps his life, but he who opens wide his lips comes to ruin. Let us prepare our hearts and our lives everyday to live an ‘unshakable life’. ”What came out of David’s mouth during his life-shaking events”? Woe is me; Life is miserable; God has forgotten me; I’m a victim of an unfair life; I didn’t do anything to deserve this; Life’s not fair. I think not. What comes out your mouth when your life is being SHAKEN? Taken from David’s life in the Psalms, we are more than able to build solid unshakable lives. Living with the same attitude David had and the unshakable life God wants us to have. Psalm 16:8 (Amp) – I have set the Lord continually before me; because He is at my right hand, I shall not be moved. Psalm 62:2 (Amp) – He only is my Rock and my Salvation, my Defense and my Fortress, I shall not be greatly moved. - o O o -

He turns a wilderness into a pool of water And a dry land into springs of water; And there He has the hungry dwell, So that they may establish an inhabited city, And sow fields and plant vineyards, And produce an abundant harvest. Also He blesses them so that they multiply greatly, And He does not let [the number of] their cattle decrease. When they are diminished and bowed down (humbled) Through oppression, misery, and sorrow, He pours contempt on princes And makes them wander in a pathless wasteland. Yet He sets the needy securely on high, away from affliction, And makes their families like a flock. The upright see it and rejoice; But all unrighteousness shuts its mouth. Who is wise? Are we living in a righteous generation? What is the Bible's definition of a generation? "A masculine noun meaning generation, period of time, posterity, age, time, setting of life. In general, the word indicates the time from birth to death; the time from one's birth to the birth of one's first child; the living adults of a certain time or place; a period as it is defined through major events, persons, behavior, and the spirit of the age. It also marks a duration of time. There is no agreed on length of time which may stretch from twenty to one hundred years, but the word is also used figuratively to mean an indefinite or unending length of time in the past or future. These basic observations can be illustrated from various passages and contexts: the generation of Noah was characterized by wickedness and violence, yet he was a righteous man in his generation (Gen_7:1); Moses spoke of a crooked generation in his day and in the future (Deu_32:5); however, the psalmist spoke of a generation of righteous people (Psa_14:5) and a generation of people who seek the Lord (Psa_24:6). These generations will be blessed by God (Psa_112:2). Generations come and go without interruption (Ecc_1:4)." (The Complete WordStudy Dictionary) A generation (the period of time for a human's life), Biblically, can be: (1) 70 years (2) 80 years (3) 120 years "The days of our years are threescore years and ten (seventy years)--or even, if by reason of strength, fourscore years (eighty years); yet is their pride [in additional years] only labor and sorrow, for it is soon gone, and we fly away." (Psalm 90:10 AMP) "Then the Lord said, My Spirit shall not forever dwell and strive with man, for he also is flesh; but his days shall yet be 120 years." (Genesis 6:3 AMP)
