Robin Snyder, a dedicated dance educator and studio owner, to discuss the transformative power of dance and its role in shaping disciplined, creative individuals. The conversation delves into Robin's journey from high school dancer to passionate dance educator and studio owner. She shares candidly about her realization that while she loves dance, her true calling lies in nurturing others within that realm, emphasizing the importance of tradition, discipline, and ceremony in ballet education.Robin also explores the complexity of nurturing stars in the performing arts, identifying students who stand out due to their dedication, respect, and ability to absorb corrections. The episode touches on key themes such as the necessity of loving the process over the mere performance and the invaluable life skills acquired through dance training. Gutierrez and Robbins further discuss the challenges of instructing in contemporary times, noting the significance of supporting both students and parents in understanding the demands and rewards of the performing arts.Key Takeaways:Emphasizing tradition and discipline in dance education helps build character and life skills in students.Success in dance and life requires loving the process, not just the performance.Identifying 'stars' involves recognizing students who show eagerness, respect, and a capacity to internalize lessons. The arts provide invaluable experiences for dealing with rejection and persistence, crucial for life's challenges.Engaging parents in the process can enhance children's success and understanding in performing arts education.Notable Quotes:"I love dance, but I don't love to dance. And that's something I've realized is okay for me.""Our students need to learn the joy in the everyday doing of the thing, not just the performance.""The honor of ballet tradition offers something our children really benefit from in today's casual culture.""Students who show up eager to learn and respectfully interact are often those who succeed, in dance and in life.""Parents can play a vital part by resisting the urge to shield their kids from disappointment and instead coach them through it."Connect with Robin Snyder:WebsiteInstagramFacebookConnect with Rudy Mawer:LinkedInInstagramFacebookTwitter

On Christmas Eve 2015, 71-year-old Schertz businessman Henry Manuel Gutierrez, Jr. was found shot multiple times inside his home along FM 3009, near the yard of his company, Bexar Waste. His son discovered him seated in a recliner, partially covered by a blanket, in what investigators described as an execution-style killing.Henry was in the midst of negotiating the multimillion-dollar sale of Bexar Waste to Republic Services at the time of his death. His estate was valued at approximately $14.6 million. An active civil lawsuit alleging a handshake agreement over future sale proceeds added financial tension to an already complex landscape. The home appeared rummaged through. Missing items included cash, his wallet, several Christmas gift cards, a distinctive sterling silver ring, and his white Ford Expedition, later recovered in San Marcos without usable forensic evidence. Some of the stolen gift cards surfaced in Houston days later.Investigators collected shell casings, an unknown fingerprint, and DNA, but no public forensic link has tied any suspect to the crime. Questions arose about the early handling of the scene and the delayed involvement of the Texas Rangers.Over the years, police interviewed roughly 100 individuals connected to Henry's business and personal life. Persons of interest have been identified but not publicly named. In 2022, the case was officially designated a cold case. In 2024, authorities announced a new person of interest developed through renewed investigation efforts. As of the tenth anniversary in 2025, no arrests have been made, and a reward remains active. If you have any information about the murder of Henry Manuel Gutierrez Jr., please call the Guadalupe County Crime Stoppers at (877) 403-8477.You can support gone cold and listen to the show ad-free at https://patreon.com/gonecoldpodcastFind us at https://www.gonecold.comFor Gone Cold merch, visit https://gonecold.dashery.comFollow gone cold on Facebook, Instagram, Threads, TikTok, YouTube, and X. We examine the origins of the first European colony in America north of Florida – New Mexico – from the rise of the Pueblo civilization, which mastered irrigation and “made the desert bloom,” building monumental complexes in arid plains and rocky canyons, through the repeated Spanish incursions in search of seven cities of gold and the construction of a tenuous European colony riven by struggles between church and state, and finally to the eruption of the largest and most coordinated Native uprising in colonial history, which expelled Europeans from New Mexico and ushered in a temporary restoration of the ancient Puebloan world. Conversation with writer/producer/actor Ashna Sharan & her acting team Wayne Jay & Roger Gutierrez on the making of the award-winning film REMINISCE. As Monica gets ready to host her older husband's college classmates, a phone call from her estranged sister puts her mind at unease. With the age gap and her questioning the one sacrifice she made for love, she feels like an outsider in her own home. As the evening continues, tensions run hot as truths come to light. After the friends leave, she questions the perfection of her marriage and the power imbalance as her loving husband struggles to rein her in. Project Links https://www.instagram.com/reminiscetheshortfilm/ https://www.facebook.com/reminiscetheshortfilm/ ——- Get to know Ashna Sharan: What motivated you to make this film? The original idea was for a feature film drama so I wrote a short film version in order to be able to get funding / show investors what the feature film would be about. The film is loosely inspired by my own life. I'm married to someone ten years older in real life. My husband and I both got judgment for the age gap, but we ended up deciding to move forward anyways. Having realized that it affected some of my friendships and relationships with others, I can only imagine what a large age gap like 25 or 30 years would do so that's why I exaggerated the age. As for the professor-student relationship, my grandparents met in a student-tutor capacity so I tied that into the love story of Reminisce. Power imbalance and a generational gap amidst the #metoo movement added an interesting dynamic to the story. From the idea to the finished product, how long did it take for you to make this film? I had written it towards the end of 2023. We began casting in the spring and ended up doing a crowdfunding campaign over the summer. We shot it in October 2024 over two days in Los Angeles. Post-production was done by April 2025. So all in all, about a year and a half. How would you describe your film in two words!? Layered and Lovely What was the biggest obstacle you faced in completing this film? Casting for this was particularly tricky so Leslie Morris (the director) and I spent a lot of time with that. I was playing Monica and I had written the role of Brian for Wayne Jay. Since Diana and Patrick were Brian's friends from college, we had to cast people who looked like they could have gone to college with Wayne, but also had the chemistry of long-time friends. We received a lot of submissions so we did self-tapes, virtual callbacks and then an in-person chemistry read. Elisa Nixon and Roger Gutierrez were cast and they did a tremendous job. ——- Subscribe to the podcast: Tweets by wildsoundpod https://www.instagram.com/wildsoundpod/ https://www.facebook.com/wildsoundpod

In this episode, we dive into one of the most creative—and ill-fated—contraband plots in recent history. In February 2025, two Colorado teenagers were caught outside USP Pollock in Louisiana with an industrial-grade compressed-air cannon and nearly $200,000 worth of methamphetamine and tobacco. Their plan, dubbed "Operation Up & Over," was to launch the massive haul over the prison's high-security perimeter. We discuss the "arms race" of modern prison smuggling—from drones to cannons—and how a vigilant deputy stopped a major drug infiltration before a single shot was fired. It's a story of high-tech ingenuity meeting a colossal legal miscalculation. --For early, ad free episodes and monthly exclusive bonus content, join our Patreon!
