In this Christmas-spirited episode of their special “Rom Com Road-Trip” series, our hosts have been blessed with a visit from someone at the top of Santa's nice list: Caroline Bourke (@carrottlime on TikTok and @carolinekbourke on Instagram). With a story inspired by Anna Vaus's song, "Halloween on Christmas Eve" the LAFS team takes Caroline on a magical sleigh ride of Christmas magic, dive bars, and accidental love with the star of your 17-year-old dreams. While honesty is always the best policy, our main character Georgia finds herself in a mess of her own making. Perhaps, though, she may be able to dig herself out of the snowbank of lies she finds herself in. With a stellar cast including Jaz Sinclair and Josh Hutcherson, what more could you want? Cozy up to this one with a cup of cocoa and perhaps a pet cow. Years ago we used to do a segment called Write-a-Tune Tuesday where we brought in local artists to write songs based on listener suggestions. One of those artists was Anna Vaus, who just happens to be the daughter of Poway mayor Steve Vaus. Since then Anna has moved to Nashville and is killing it writing music for Maddie & Tae, Carly Pearce and Keith Urban. She just happened to be back in San Diego this week and joined us this morning at Soapy Joe's for a check-in.
Anna Vaus stops by the show after Bobby was impressed with a cover song he saw her do on TikTok! She also talks about having a publishing deal and writing a song that Keith Urban has recorded and Bobby has a big surprise for her! Then, find out why Lunchbox tested out peeing while sitting down for a week and his verdict on how he feels about it. Mailbag: A listeners husband got laid off and is looking for a new job, while she works full time. But he expects her to still do all the housework even though he has more time on his hands now. She's not sure what to do so we share our advice!See omny.fm/listener for privacy information.
In this episode, Laura and Tracy sit down with songwriter, producer and publisher Luke Laird. Luke talks the magic of writers' rounds, being reluctant to ask for help, letting go of jealousy and the nitty gritty details of his early publishing deals. Laura also shares the story of a pivotal moment that lead to her being a songwriter. Ferocious talent, wit, and sincere humility rarely come together like they do in Grammy winner Luke Laird. Since moving to Nashville from a small farming town in Pennsylvania, Laird has become one of country and pop's top songwriters and producers. The numbers are staggering: 52 radio singles –– 24 of which were Billboard No. 1 hits and 5 of which were in the Top 5 –– 2 Billboard No. 1 singles as a producer, and more than 125 released cuts fill his catalog. In four separate years, every single released that Laird wrote peaked at No. 1 on the Billboard charts. He earned ACM Songwriter of the Year honors in 2015, and was named BMI Songwriter of the Year in 2012. As a producer, Laird has helped shape some of music's most critically acclaimed projects of the last decade. He co-produced Kacey Musgraves' 2013 debut, Same Trailer, Different Park, which garnered Grammy honors for Best Country Album and an ACM Album of the Year win. In 2015, he returned to the studio with Musgraves to co-produce her triumphant sophomore release, Pageant Material. Laird earned his second Grammy for Best Country Song with Musgraves' “Space Cowboy” in 2019. He also has producer credits on Thomas Rhett, Ingrid Michaelson, Brett Eldredge, Steve Moakler, Everette, Kassi Ashton, Anna Vaus and more. A slew of Grammy, ACM, CMA, and other nominations line Laird's resume, which also includes six CMA Triple Play Awards, four NSAI “Songs I Wish I'd Written” Awards, the 2012 BMI Country Song of the Year trophy for Rodney Atkins' “Take a Back Road,” and more. His list of No. 1 singles reads like a carefully curated playlist of soulful contemporary country: “Hard To Forget” (Sam Hunt); “Fast” and “I See You” (Luke Bryan); “Head Over Boots” (Jon Pardi); “T-Shirt” (Thomas Rhett); “Gonna” and “Hillbilly Bone” (Blake Shelton); “Talladega,” “Give Me Back My Hometown,” and “Drink In My Hand” (Eric Church); “American Kids” (Kenny Chesney); “Sunshine & Whiskey” (Frankie Ballard); “One of Those Nights” (Tim McGraw); “Downtown” (Lady Antebellum); “Somebody's Heartbreak” (Hunter Hayes); “Beat This Summer” (Brad Paisley); “Pontoon” (Little Big Town); “You” (Chris Young); “A Little Bit Stronger” (Sara Evans); “Take A Back Road” (Rodney Atkins); and “Temporary Home,” “Undo It,” “So Small,” and “Last Name” (Carrie Underwood). Other artists who have recorded Laird-penned songs represent a jaw-dropping grab bag of genres: George Strait, Maren Morris, Dierks Bentley, Miranda Lambert, Brandy Clark, Toby Keith, Jake Owen, Steve Moakler, Sister Hazel, Ingrid Michaelson, Ashley Monroe, Sam Hunt, Angaleena Presley, Nikki Lane, Darius Rucker, Jason Aldean, Sheryl Crow, Brett Eldredge, Florida Georgia Line, Ne-Yo, Neal McCoy, Amy Grant, and many more. Laird recently released his own record, Music Row, that offers an intimate look into his journey from Hartstown to Nashville. The first-ever record from one of music's most trusted creators and collaborators, Music Row is a songwriter's story, traversing childhood, grief, addiction, family, and the community he loves. The songs are deeply personal and sometimes raw, all delivered by the songwriter himself. Today, Laird writes for and co-owns Nashville-based publishing and management company Creative Nation with his wife, Beth. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

Danika Portz is a singer/songwriter who has been described by Billboard magazine as "the songstress who simply sounds like nobody else in Nashville these days–especially on a vocal level." Danika is an Iowa-native who has had the opportunity to open for some of the industry's top acts, such as Martina McBride, Dan and Shay, David Cook, and many more. Danika won the NFM Anthem Theme Song Contest with her song, House Becomes a Home. She is married to an incredible fiddle player and musician in his own right, Ryan Joseph, and will soon be a mom. In this episode… In 2020, NFM hosted a contest to find a theme song for the company’s commercials. The contest received more than 400 entries and by March 2020, they had narrowed it down to the top 10 finalists. They then opened the voting to the public to narrow it even further to the top five finalists. And in August 2020, Danika Portz was announced as the winner with her song, House Becomes a Home. Danika shares that while she was confident in her song, she was amazed by the talent that emerged from the competition and wasn’t sure if she would make the cut. But her vocal prowess and her ability to tell a compelling story and convey what it was like to turn a house into a home propelled her to the top of the race, and ultimately, made her win the contest. Join Tyler Wisecup, Becca Sudbeck, and Hilary Woltemath in this episode of I Am Home podcast as they talk to NFM Anthem Theme Song contest winner, Danika Portz, about winning the contest and sharing a story through her songs. Danika also shares her musical inspirations and influences, the challenges that come with being a woman in the music industry, how she’s preparing her home for her baby, and highlights some amazing female artists that people should listen to. Bigotry has existed since the dawn of man. Fear of the other. We’ve seen it in American politics since our nation began. Sadly, bigotry remains a political weapon and it finds it’s way into a few San Diego political races. We take a look at the match ups of Carl DeMaio vs Darrell Issa, and Joel Anderson vs Steve Vaus. I also share my experience at the DMV getting my Real ID. In this week's episode Megan and Alyssa do another doubleheader spotlighting new artists Abby Anderson and Anna Vaus! Plus songs of the week from Mickey Guyton and Sophia Scott.
Before we get into the topic of entrepreneurism, we start off our podcast talking about Poway News including Anna Vaus making her debut at the Grand Ole Opry, the City of Poway’s tight budget, Poway Unified School District’s continued financial irresponsibility and unwillingness to heed good advice. We explore the Democratic Presidential race and the upcoming debates. We talk about the recent Padres surge. We tip a hat to two Pirates: Poway High grad Kevin Newman, and Grossmont High grad Joe Musgrove, and his Poway pitching coach Dominick Johnson. I share my thoughts on the NBA Draft and talk about my new streaming interest Deadwood. Then we get into the idea of entrepreneurism as an option for young people. It doesn’t always need to be about finding a job you hate for a low wage. It can instead be about doing work you enjoy, building important career skills, making more money than you thought was possible and having control over your schedule. We also talk about Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo, Hertz, Poway Road, Prefumo Canyon Rd, Airbnb, paralysis analysis, overthinking, Poway Performing Arts Center, Bernie Sanders, Joe Biden, Andrew Yang, #YangGang, Elizabeth Warren, Pete Buttigieg, Franmil Reyes, Fernando Tatis Jr., Manny Machado, Eric Lauer, Logan Allen, Eric Hosmer, Kirby Yates, Joey Lucchesi, Chris Paddack, Jalen McDaniels, Zylan Cheatham, Aztecs, Amazon Prime, UltimateGuy.com, minimum wage, gig economy, internships, dream job, occupational licensing, Connor Boyack, P. Diddy, L. Tom Perry, Libertas Institute and The Tuttle Twins. Closing quote from Connor Boyack retweeting a rapper quoting an apostle: “One of the greatest weaknesses in most of us is our lack of faith in ourselves.” JRP0057 John Riley Project Info: Bookings? The Claim2Fame Podcast is a resource for artists Every episode features successful artists and industry experts sharing compelling stories and valuable knowledge about the music industry hosted by CMA, ACM & CCMA Award Winning Broadcaster Cliff Dumas. Cliff talks to Miranda Lambert Scholarship winner Anna Vaus about the win, songwriting, tips for new artists and bumping into Steven Tyler at the grocery store. ANNA VAUS Anna is a songwriter from San Diego, California. She grew up under the wing of Grammy-winning-artist, Steve Vaus (who she calls "dad") and has opened for country superstars Hunter Hayes, Lonestar, Billy Ray Cyrus, LeAnn Womack, Phil Vassar and more! In November of 2015, she was invited to play in Belmont University’s ASCAP Writer’s Night and also made her Bluebird Cafe debut in February 2016. Most recently, Anna was chosen as the first recipient of the 'Miranda Lambert Women Creators Fund' at Belmont University. However, no matter who she plays with or where she plays... For Anna, it's always first and foremost: about the song. This year marks the first recipient for that award, and it went to Anna Vaus a junior at Belmont University. The 80 applicants who applied for the scholarship were asked to submit an online application as well as an original song, which judges reviewed. They sent along their top six picks to Lambert, who decided the winner. [iframe id="https://www.youtube.com/embed/zTlaRu_Wsl4"]
