Anthony Ware joins us to discuss Founder Mental Wealth, a research group focused on the mental health of underestimated entrepreneurs. This is a topic very close to our hears and needs to be higher on the agenda.
Anthony Ware grew up as a latchkey kid from Indianapolis where he and his two younger brothers were raised by their dad. His first gig was cleaning toilets for his dad's janitorial business. Anthony jumped from the corporate ladder to launch startups. He ignored his scarcity mentality until it broke him in November 2010, he had to live in a car in New Orleans after his third startup failed. Two months later, thanks to mentors and yoga teacher training, Anthony was a phoenix. Ten years later, Anthony's businesses help underestimated startup founders use their mental wealth and company culture to leapfrog business norms, and create new generational wealth. AWare Catalysts helps underestimated founders (People of Color, Women, LGBTQIA) create scalable, positive impact on their people and bottom line through mental wealth, culture, empathy and self-awareness. The 2019 Founder Mental Wealth Report, Vol. 1 is the inaugural research study for underestimated startup founders in the UK and US. This is a first step to reverse the negative generational impact of mental illness and social injustice, and increase generational mental wealth to complement the generational financial wealth currently being created. Founders can use these to identify practices to help them create or refine their mental wealth based on our peers with similar backgrounds. Reminder: The Inclusive Startup Accelerator operates from October 24th through December 5th, 2020. Participants will gain automatic entry to a $10,000 Pitch Competition in January of 2021! We're back! In Part 2 of the inaugural episode, Nate continues his conversation with the homie Anthony Ware, the principal of AWare Catalysts who specializes in #foundermentalwealth. Let's just say things get real. Then again, we always keep it real.
In the inaugural episode, Nate (and Nash) chops it up with the homie Anthony Ware, the principal of AWare Catalysts who specializes in #foundermentalwealth. Nate takes the conversation way back to Anthony's roots in Indianapolis, covering so much ground in the process that we had to break it into two segments. This is Part 1.
Anthony Ware, Principal of AWare Catalysts and Founder of Mental Wealth, on sticking to your core values during trying times.
Anthony Ware is the principal at AWare Catalysts, a Los Angeles based practice that helps underestimated founders create scalable, positive impact on their people and bottom line through mental wealth, culture, empathy and self-awareness. A fantastic and honest conversation around what founders go through in the process of creating a startup but are afraid to talk about.
In this episode, I chat with entrepreneur and mental health and wealth expert, Anthony Ware. Anthony's business, Aware Catalysts, focuses on—among other things— a program called Founder Mental Wealth, which helps underestimated and underrepresented entrepreneurs to decrease burnout and improve business outcomes. His mission is to help create a world of new generational wealth: mind, body, spirit, time, and money. Anthony shares a lot of wisdom in this episode in addition to his touching origin story and also his important evolution story from his original mindset that money = stuff = happiness to a more grounded focus on how a founder's emotional well being drives culture and that drives long-term mental and financial wins or challenges. Mental and emotional challenges, certainly experienced by all founders, are experienced even more acutely by those who are underrepresented and marginalized. I will drop a link in the full show notes to the report Anthony and I discussed and also provide other resources to support founders in the journey toward mental health and financial freedom. We leave you with some lifework. Make a list, make a plan, and then execute that plan by making sure you always pay yourself FIRST. Not just with bank deposits but with mental WEALTH deposits. We encourage non-white listeners to dial in with their codified concepts, new terms, observations, research findings, workplace problems or triumphs, and/or suggestions on how best to Replace White Supremacy With Justice ASAP. In a manner yet to be determined, Ware died in police custody after being pepper sprayed and arrested. Some of the Tuscaloosa officers were wearing body cameras, but they failed to record significant moments of Ware's detainment. Chapman, 18, was arrested for taking a cellphone. She reportedly hung herself within hours of being booked. Chapman's death was simultaneous with the similarly reported death of Sandra Bland. Texas officers arrested Bland, who promptly reported concerns for her safety and officer abuse. Shortly there after, she is alleged to have hung herself. One of the involved officers, Sheriff Glenn Smith, was previously fired from a Texas police department amid accusations of Racism. President Barack Obama became the first sitting president to tour a federal prison; at an NAACP convention this week, he echoed that, "African Americans are more likely to be arrested. They are more likely to be sentenced to more time for the same crime... [and] around one in nine African American kids has a parent in prison." The evening before his visit, he was greeted by a gang of White ruffians brandishing Confederate flags. #AnswersForMiriamCarey INVEST in The COWS - http://tiny.cc/ledjb CALL IN NUMBER: 760.569.7676 CODE 564943# SKYPE: FREECONFERENCECALLHD.7676 CODE 564943# The C.O.W.S. archives: http://tiny.cc/76f6p
