EPISODE SUMMARY Devi Ward Erickson, author, podcast host, and Founder of the Institute of Authentic Tantra Education, describes how orgasm can lead you to enlightenment, altered bliss states can dissolve painful truama, and how non-dualistic practices overlap with anti-racist consciousness. It's no wonder this powerful goddess has managed to be the first and only government-accredited institute teaching Tantra thus far. So tune in and fall in love with Devi Ward Erikson.IN THIS EPISODE:Devi describes the true goal of tantra yoga and what every seeker should know before choosing a neo-tantra teacher. You'll discover that the five elements of this tradition - earth, water, fire, air, and space are an antidote to one of the five root poisons of human emotion: anger, attachment, pride, jealousy, and ignorance. You'll hear stories of students completely shut down from orgasm, go through Devi's 5 element healing process and completely recover their pleasure that for years has been numbed out.Enlightenment is summed up by the experience of bliss, equanimity, openness, clarity, and joy, and to have that look a little closer at how far you can extend those orgasms. Neo-Tantra, developed in the West, has little to do with what was taught in India. Often portrayed as shady, occult, and perverse, tantra has often been characterized and classified as “black magic”. The Kama Sutra , an ancient court textbook that was used as a guide to sexual and marital affairs, further distorted the perception of tantric practices. Consequentially, the Western public came to see tantra as being synonymous with the guidance in the Kama Sutra – particularly with its detailed descriptions of various physical positions for sexual intercourse. Even after a shift in tantric teachings occurred over time, the connection between sexuality and spirituality is what mainly fascinated the Western culture. Tantra increasingly became seen as an “ecstasy cult” with a positive attitude towards the physical body and everything worldly. This is how the term “tantra” came to be a synonym for ritual eroticism, spiritually oriented sexual practices, or sacred sexuality. However, Authentic Tantra ® is a trauma-informed holistic healing modality designed to awaken, heal, and integrate body, mind, spirit, and sex... Authentic Tantra ® is medicine.About Devi:Devi Ward Erickson is the curator of the Authentic Tantra ® modality and an accomplished Vajrayana Tantra Practitioner. She is a trauma survivor who has overcome sexual, emotional, physical and racial abuse through Tantric sexual and non-sexual practice. Devi was a stripper in Detroit for several years while she attended Wayne State University for the performing arts. At the age of 24, she became a monk of the Ishaya order and dedicated her life to her spiritual path. Nine years later, Devi was introduced to Vajrayana Tantric Buddhism and trained in the Tibetan Five Element healing practices as a sexual and non-sexual healing method.Since then Devi has become an internationally recognized Tantra Expert, Certified Tantric Healer, and ACS Certified Sexologist. In 2015 Devi completed a 53 hour Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault Advocacy Counselor training. Her background includes certification in Reiki and meditation. Devi has a hell of a story. She is the founder of The Institute of Authentic Tantra Education, but her journey to this incredible educational platform was by way of housekeeping, then stripping, getting heavily into the rave scene, then transitioning to monkhood and ultimately finding her place amongst the most important teachers of authentic tantra in North America...if not the world! At one point in the interview, she shares the bliss that many of us have experienced through MDMA, then later found that she could achieve this same bliss - LASTING bliss - from within through focused meditation and tantric principles. I will be talking with Devi Ward about some steamy topics such as tantric breathing, “sexercises”, the 4 forms of sensual pleasure and what all of this means for women's self-empowerment and healing..just to name a few of the topics that are on the table. Devi Ward is a pioneer in the field of Women's Sexual Empowerment and the author of “Shake Your Soul-Song! A Woman's Guide to Self-Empowerment Through The Art Of Self-Pleasure.” She is Certified in a vast wealth of specializations including Tantric healer, Authentic Tantra Education and Co-Founder of Authentic Tantra Sexual Education. Devi often works with women who have a deep desire to know themselves more intimately. They realize that their sexuality is “missing” something and that there is more to be experienced. Devi's work focuses on how women can reclaim their sensual pleasure from a place of personal power (and how this very pleasure can become a powerful healing tool).
