Phil Vischer is a follower of Jesus, filmmaker, and a founding architect of VeggieTales, the groundbreaking children's series that sold more than 65 million copies. If you have never heard of Bob the Tomato or Larry the Cucumber, you are forgiven, but please stop right now and take some time to learn about them. They are awesome! Though quite successful, in 2003 Phil's company, Big Idea Productions, entered bankruptcy. However, it did not extinguish the desire to use his storytelling and computer animation gifts to help people, especially children, better understand the Bible. Read more about his sojourn in his book, Me, Myself, & Bob: A Grown Up Book About God, Dreams, and Talking Vegetables.Residing in the Chicago area with his wife, grateful for their three adult kids and a few acres of grass to mow when it isn't snowing like crazy, Phil is always cooking up new ideas. On our final episode of season 2, our guest is author, animator and filmmaker Phil Vischer. He has had a significant impact on American culture with his groundbreaking children's series, VeggieTales. And then, at the peak of his success, everything turned upside down. Over-aggressive expansion coupled with a lawsuit from a former distributor forced Phil's company, Big Idea Productions, into bankruptcy in 2003. Phil lost his company, his characters, his dream. Rather than losing hope, Phil found himself with a ministry he never expected – a ministry to anyone who has lost a dream. Since, Phil detailed the dramatic rise and fall of his dream and the lessons learned in his book, Me, Myself & Bob along with launching another Children's series called What's In The Bible and a top Christian podcast called The Holy Post Podcast. You can hear Pastor Bob being interviewed on the Holy Post podcast as well which is a must-listen if you haven't as well! Pastor Bob and Phil hit on their interconnected history, issues going on in church & culture, the re-emergence of puppets, systematized evangelism & a 'Let's Predict the Future' game. In this episode we’re just outside of Chicago connecting with Phil Vischer, the visionary, creative who founded Veggietales. To date it's the most popular direct to DVD series of all time with more than 65 million copies sold. It led to feature films, Netflix Original series and became a cultural icon. Phil tells us the story of Veggie Tales meteoric rise to success, the struggles and pitfalls of maintaining that success and truth about what is required to find and keep one’s identity rooted in the one who created us. While his story is not unusual, the wisdom and lessons learned via the journey are exceptional and is deserving of a close listen on what it means to belong to Jesus – not simply as your Savior but as your Lord. Salvation was never really the goal just the tool that is to lead us all towards a relationship with God rooted in His lordship and the restoration of what was lost in the Fall. This week’s episode is calling us to ask that all important question: as we’ve accepted Jesus as Savior have we also accepted Him as Lord? If you have, we would love to hear how this has impacted the organizations for which you are responsible because after all, proof is IN the pudding. Share with us your stories at faithdrivenentrepreneur.org. Useful Links: https://philvischer.com https://www.veggietales.com We also have a very brief survey we’d love for you to take that will help us shape the direction and future of the FDE podcast. As always, we love taking your questions and hearing your comments. Feel free to submit your thoughts in general here.

Isaac explains the transistor and why it's so important to us today and how it's like a mild taco sauce. Dave gives us a peek behind the curtain of the rise and fall of VeggieTales production company, Big Idea. You will be amazed and surprised of what went on behind the scenes.
Join us this week on Christian Devotions SPEAK UP! as host Scott McCausey shares the rise and fall of Big Idea Productions with Phil Vischer. Author and filmmaker Phil Vischer has had a significant impact on American culture. His groundbreaking children's series, VeggieTales, has sold more than 65 million copies, been featured in major magazines and newspapers and even spoofed by Saturday Night Live and The Simpsons. Phil created Bob the Tomato and Larry the Cucumber as a 25 year-old Chicago-based computer animator, searching for ways to integrate his faith and his filmmaking. With the help of his wife, Lisa, his college buddy Mike Nawrocki, two art school grads and his church's music director, Kurt Heinecke, Phil landed VeggieTales videos in a third of all American households with young children. Since the bankruptcy of Big Idea Productions, Phil has produced What's in the Bible? – a 13-part DVD series walking families all the way through from Genesis to Revelation, explaining the origins, meaning, and some of the “trickier bits” of the world's most influential book. Phil is also a frequent radio guest on Family Life Radio, Focus on the Family, Moody Radio and others. Phil's story has also given him a speaking ministry, as he has crisscrossed the country speaking at conferences and colleges from coast to coast. From Pepperdine to Baylor to Liberty (and back again for return visits to many), Phil's humor and heart have proven extremely popular with the same college kids that laughed at Bob and Larry when they were small.

What matters most in our lives and careers? The mind behind VeggieTales and the founder of Big Idea Productions, Phil Vischer, shares the story of his life and career—from his growing up in Iowa to his leadership of one of the biggest animation studios in the United States. Through the bankruptcy of Big Idea and the failure of his dreams and aspirations, Phil realized that his pride stood in the way of following Christ. God showed him that his dreams were more important to him than He was. By giving over his idols and his life to God, Phil found that "the most important thing I can do for God is to make God the most important thing." His life today is a testimony to the work of God and to the power of His will.
