The Bible is a collection of stories. It is the Word of God for the people of God. Thanks be to God. As we study the Bible and listen to the Holy Spirit, we begin appreciating the thorns and thistles, the triumphs and enjoyments of those who have gone before. But we also have a lot to learn from one another, for in the end, Christians are victorious "by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony" (Revelation 12:11). Hosted by Rev. James Ellis III, Trinity Western University's University Chaplain and Director of Student Ministries, this podcast is an opportunity to get to know students, faculty, staff, and others a bit more up-close, to hear wisdom about relationships, spiritual formation, vocational discernment – you name it. We think that these stories are important insomuch as they point to the "good news" Jesus represents. We are who we are only because he bought us at a price (1 Corinthians 6:20), living and dying, and being resurrected by God the Father for our sake! So, do yourself a favor and listen and then tell a friend to listen. After all, who doesn't like a good story?

In this episode, The Rev. has a conversation with Karen Stiller and, wouldn't you know it (surprise, surprise), his wife, Renata, about their shared experiences being married to pastors. Karen is an accomplished writer, senior editor of Faith Today, and the author of The Minister's Wife: A Memoir of Faith, Doubt, Friendship, Loneliness, Forgiveness, and More. And she loves to laugh. In Renata's former career, she worked in the trenches of urban education (earning two master's degrees along the way), as a Special Education teacher and administrator. She is passionate about authentic Christian community, discipling young women, and ice cream! Oh, and she also loves to laugh. Being married to a pastor is challenging for lots of reasons. It can be isolating, riddled with inequity, unstable, and draining. But there is another side, as well. Holy moments are experienced, and holy relationships of mutuality and accountability can be built, like what we see between Renata and Karen. The newly married Cheryl Dennis (formerly Welfing) is the Project Lead for Trinity Western University's Campus Services team and loves all manner of buildings, seeing them grow from a concept to something tangible and able to positively impact people's lives. She has been part of the TWU community for four years, two in the CFO's office and two within Campus Services. Given the massive RGK building project that is currently in its final phases, she spends most of her time on that right now, and she is excited to see it take shape and finally be put to good use. Cheryl graduated from the University of the Fraser Valley with a bachelor's degree in political science and is excited about the master's degree program she is in at TWU.She is a big fan of long walks, relaxing at home watching Netflix, and most especially spending time with her husband, Kyle. They met in May of 2020 (yes, in the middle of the pandemic!), were engaged by March and then were married in October of 2021. Vania Levans is a pastor, teacher, musician, and spiritual director. She has talents upon talents and we are grateful to know her. Today, she serves as the Lead Pastor at Marineview Chapel Christian(since 2017) and a faculty member at Regent College. She is passionate about encouraging and nurturing sanctification—the life-long process of maturing in Christ—and sharing Christ's Good News with others. One of the items of corporate worship she continues to study and teach is how to lead Christ-centered corporate worship, so that it better reflects the diversity and beauty of the body of Christ. From early-on, Vania has maintained a strong desire to share the love of God with everyone, and participate in God's work of reconciliation by extending a particular welcome to the marginalized or those on the periphery. After formative childhood years in Ottawa, in 2002 she landed in Vancouver for her Master of Divinity at Regent College. She loves mentoring and discipling, hearing people's stories, and walking alongside them as they recognize and grow in their gifts. Vania is drawn to the beauty of Vancouver and enjoys experiencing the ocean, mountains, and trees on walks or the occasional kayak trip. She also delights in connecting with friends, curling up with a good book, learning a new language, or listening to—and and creating!—jazz.________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________Connect with VaniaMusic________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________Connect with TWU Student MinistriesFollow us on Instagram
