In this episode, Lisa and Zack discuss:Understanding the difference between everyday anxiety and an anxiety disorderThe role of technology and social media in contributing to Gen Z anxietyEvidence-based treatment approaches, including exposure therapyParenting strategies to support anxious teens without reinforcing fearKey Takeaways: Anxiety can be defined as an overestimation of threat and an underestimation of one's ability to cope, and it becomes a disorder when it causes significant dysfunction in daily life.Technology use often serves as a “medication” for uncertainty, providing short-term relief but contributing to worsening anxiety, with research suggesting decreased youth alcohol use but no mental health improvement.Accommodations, such as parents completing tasks for anxious teens, can unintentionally reinforce fears; asking guiding questions helps youth build coping skills.Exposure therapy works by gradually confronting fears until they become manageable or are disproven, reducing avoidance and increasing confidence. “Fear and anxiety have an incredibly important role to play in our lives. It's not all bad. It's not a negative emotion, but it is an emotion that requires some understanding and some skill to address.” – Zack SchaferEpisode References:The Anxious Generation by Jonathan Haidt: https://www.amazon.com/Anxious-Generation-Rewiring-Childhood-Epidemic/dp/0593655036Dopamine Nation by Dr. Anna Lembke: https://www.amazon.com/Dopamine-Nation-Finding-Balance-Indulgence/dp/152474672XSPACE Treatment by Dr. Eli Lebowitz: https://www.spacetreatment.net/BePresent App: https://www.bepresentapp.com/Get Lisa's Free on-demand video: How-to guide for your teen to choose the right major, college, & career...(without painting themselves into a corner, missing crucial deadlines, or risking choices you both regret). flourishcoachingco.com/video Connect with Zack:Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/mountainvalleytreatmentcenter/Website: https://mountainvalleytreatment.org/LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/zack-schafer-a6026b108/Fear Less Podcast: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/Email: zschafer@mountainvalleytreatment.orgConnect with Lisa:Website: https://www.flourishcoachingco.com/YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/@flourishcoachingcoInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/flourishcoachingco/LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/company/flourish-coaching-co

Watch the trailer: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rGd9zO_lvU4There have been many cinematic attempts over the years to portray the life of Jesus Christ in such a manner that would both entertain audiences and hopefully evangelize at the same time. Fortunately, many have succeeded but others have fallen flat. With painstakingly good intentions, many productions of “the greatest story ever told” have tried to do too much, grasping to highlight every nuance of Jesus' life but losing its clarity of purpose along the way.Co-director John Schafer and executive producer Brennan McPherson believe their new animated movie about the life of Jesus, is the film families have been waiting for, something you can watch together, knowing it will clearly portray the life of Jesus.  “Light of the World”, which opens in theaters on September 5th, is set to deliver the time-tested, universal truths of the Gospel message through the medium of classic animation.Set in 30 AD and told from the perspective of John the Apostle as a teenager, this throwback 2D animated feature will explore Jesus' ministry from the beginning through His crucifixion and resurrection. While the techniques may vary from today's computer generated visuals, “Light of the World” tells a timeless story designed to inspire and transform lives. Schafer and McPherson join me to chat about the inherent challenges in making a 2D animated film versus today's dazzling computer animation, what sets this movie apart from all the other films made about the life of Jesus, and how "Light of the World" fulfills a lifelong dream for both of them.

This, he figures, was his moment, and in under two weeks, he wrote the first draft of what would become Cruel Intentions. And while the project would soon pick up momentum, it still required him to get on his knees and basically beg one of his lead stars to appear in the movie. The second half of this episode is then a chat with filmmaker Akiva Schafer, about the new The Naked Gun movie. He talks tiny details, finding jokes, and the movie's very, very long credits list... CA pastor issues dire warning on anti-parent bill, Man avoids prison after attacking pro-lifers, Trump to meet with Putin in Alaska

It's Monday, August 11th, A.D. 2025. This is The Worldview in 5 Minutes heard on 140 radio stations and at www.TheWorldview.com.  I'm Adam McManus. (Adam@TheWorldview.com) By Adam McManus CA pastor warns if anti-parent bill passes they need to leave state Pastor Jack Hibbs, Founder of Calvary Chapel Chino Hills, sounded the alarm last week about a dangerous anti-parent bill in California. HIBBS: “[Democratic California Governor] Gavin Newsom and his buddies up there have crafted Assembly Bill 495. This bill 100% strips parents of their parental rights. It allows an individual to obtain this new form that comes with the bill. They can download it. They can get it mailed to them. They can go pick it up. They fill it out. “They can name a child, let's say Suzie Q. So, John goes to a school in California and says, ‘I have this form, and I am asking for Suzie Q to be put into my custody. I want to take her out of school.' “The bill does not require a background check for this man. Requires no identification, no driver's license, no nothing. There's no requirement in the bill for the school to call you to ask you if it's okay if John takes your daughter out of school. “It is literally being called by opponents of it --  I'm one of them -- the California Legislature Trafficking Bill. It is unbelievable. Go to realimpact.us. Read about it. “Four or five reprobates have written it. We're going to let you know who they are, and we're going to campaign against them.” Supporters of the controversial bill see it as a necessary response to President Donald Trump's crackdown on illegal immigration. In a so-called “fact sheet” about the proposal, Democratic Assemblywoman Celeste Rodriguez argued that the bill enables the kids of illegals to be cared for if their parents are detained or deported. However, conservatives and Christians believe the law could be used in nefarious ways, allowing non-related adults to a child to gain legal authority over the child with a single affidavit that does not require parental consent, reports Faithwire.com. The California Senate is about to vote on it. That's why Pastor Hibbs urged the thousands in his congregation to travel the 400 miles north to California's capitol on Tuesday, August 19th to speak out against it. HIBBS: “I need all of you to take August 19th off. I'm going to ask all of you to drive, bus, fly. I don't care how you get there, but I want you to meet me at the Capitol steps in Sacramento because our elected leaders are right now trying to get a bill passed that's the unthinkable. “We're looking for a minimum of 5,000 people to be there that day. Let your voice be heard. The last time we gathered up there, it was the largest gathering in 27 years in our state capitol.” Gina Gleason, director of the Real Impact ministry at Calvary Chapel Chino Hills, said,  “[Democrats] have a supermajority and Republicans are in the minority. So usually the Democrats get pretty much everything that they want unless we, as the church, as conservatives, stand up and speak up, and that's what we're trying to do with this bill. If we make enough noise, if we get enough attention, they will back off.” Pastor Hibbs said that the problem is too few Christians vote. HIBBS: “This is the California government, ladies and gentlemen, that somebody's voted them in. I think we did, maybe, by not voting. ‘Nah, I just sit that out. I'm going to get involved in that kind of stuff.' And … here we are. “Because whenever there's an evil, evil always fills a void, a vacancy. Jesus said that a man void of the Holy Spirit, the demons go search out and bring seven more demons worse than himself, inhabits the man because there was a vacancy. “Because good people don't vote in California, we've got idiots running this state, perverts.” Pastor Hibbs issued a dramatic warning. HIBBS: “If this bill passes, I'm going to ask you to leave the state of California. You're going to need to pack up, and you're going to have to get out. You got to get out. You got to run with your kids. You got to go. I would not subject my child to one second in this public school system with this new law, AB 495. “Your child's safety is number one in your life. I never thought the day would ever come when I would encourage you to leave. “As you can tell, I'm angry, and I'll die on this hill. This is the end of California. If this bill passes, your children are now subject and vulnerable to state-sanctioned kidnapping or trafficking.” Pray for the demise of AB 495.  If you live in California, tell your legislator you oppose AB 495 and attend the Tuesday, August 19th rally in Sacramento. Proverbs 21:15 says, “When justice is done, it is a joy to the righteous, but terror to evildoers.” Trump to meet with Putin in Alaska after issuing ‘very severe' tariff threat President Donald Trump announced that he will meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin on American soil this Friday to discuss an end to the war in Ukraine, reports One America News. On Truth Social, President Trump wrote, “The highly anticipated meeting between myself, as President of the United States of America, and President Vladimir Putin, of Russia, will take place Friday, August 15, 2025, in the Great State of Alaska. Further details to follow.” The upcoming talks between the two world leaders follow after President Trump gave Putin a 10-12 day deadline to secure a ceasefire in Ukraine, or potentially face “very severe tariffs” and sanctions. Man avoids prison after viciously assaulting two elderly pro-lifers in Baltimore And finally, Patrick Brice, who was found guilty earlier this year of savagely beating two elderly pro-life activists in a May 2023 attack outside a Baltimore Planned Parenthood abortion mill, was only sentenced to home detention and probation last Thursday, but notably will not be required to spend a day behind bars, reports LifeSiteNews.com. On August 7, Baltimore City Circuit Judge Yvette Bryant  sentenced Brice to just one year of home detention and three years of probation for brutally attacking pro-life sidewalk counselors Mark Crosby and Dick Schaefer, who were 73 and 80 respectively at the time. Schafer and Crosby were simply praying and offering alternatives to women who were coming to kill their babies, when a Planned Parenthood “deathscort” -- a staff member or volunteer who "escorts" women past pro-lifers -- attacked them. In broad daylight, Brice, who was 28, assaulted Schafer from behind, throwing him into a planter and window. When Crosby ran to his aid, Brice hit him in the face, knocking him to the ground, sending him crashing onto the brick sidewalk, and then Brice kicked him in the head.  Tragically, Crosby suffered a fractured plate bone in his right cheek and had to have his eye orbit replaced with metal. His right eye was blinded, and he suffered a concussion. Video of the attack, which we have linked in our transcript today, released by Baltimore Police clearly shows the extreme violence of Brice's attack on Crosby and Schaefer. In February, a jury convicted Brice on two counts of second-degree assault and reckless endangerment for attacking the pro-life activists, but did not reach a verdict on the more serious charge of first-degree assault. Shockingly, in a June bench trial, Judge Bryant acquitted Brice of the first-degree assault charges on the absurd grounds that Crosby had “provoked” the defendant.  The elderly pro-lifer told Daily Wire, “Baltimore is criminal-friendly. It's not victim-friendly at all, especially if you're a senior. Judges do not like pro-lifers. They don't like us saving babies, I don't know why.” Brice also yanked off Crosby's crucifix and chain which he was wearing around his neck. Crosby said that despite the pain he endured from the attack, “My shedding blood in front of Planned Parenthood for Jesus and the babies” has actually been “a gift to me.” The “millions of babies murdered” at Planned Parenthood over the years “have shed rivers of blood.” Isaiah 59:7 describes the abortionists and the Planned Parenthood “deathscorts,” like Patrick Brice, quite well.  “Their feet rush into sin; they are swift to shed innocent blood. They pursue evil schemes; acts of violence mark their ways.” The prosecution had asked Judge Bryant for a 10-year prison sentence, urging the judge to send a message that attacking two peaceful elderly men in broad daylight for their religious or political views will not be tolerated. But Judge Bryant, who shockingly did not allow Crosby to show his wounded eye to the jury during the trial, opted to give Brice a “slap on the wrist.” Send a polite, 2-3 sentence letter to Judge Yvette Bryant objecting to her decision to acquit Patrick Brice of the first-degree assault charge and her refusal to give him any prison time at all for his violent attack on two peaceful, elderly men.  Address it to:  Judge Yvette Bryant, Cummings Courthouse, Chambers 252, 111 N. Calvert Street, Baltimore, Maryland 21202.  I hope you are one of 50 Worldview listeners to send her a letter. In light of her miscarriage of justice, she needs to hear from us. Partners in CFS10 instrumentation include the California Strong Motion Instrumentation program and CalTech, who installed valuable sensor systems on the structure. Hutchinson and Schafer discuss data from non-structural components, vital for understanding building re-occupation, and they cover important nuances – such as data from prior component testing, including hybrid simulations – which are necessary precursors to large-scale shake table testing – which validate earlier findings.Expect to hear initial findings from CFS10 testing in September 2025, when Hutchinson and Schafer will be presenting papers. Data from the CFS10 tests will be publicly available on the NHERI DesignSafe Data Depot within a year. Although it can take years for engineering research to be adopted into official building codes, Hutchinson and Schafer explain that engineers in the earthquake-prone state of California are quicker to adopt peer reviewed findings.

The CFS10 structure currently on the UC San Diego shake table represents over a decade of steel-framed component testing. That's an unabashed goal of the landmark CFS10 project: to advance building code for steel-framed buildings in seismic zones.

Bioethicist Arthur Schafer has thought a lot about life and death. He has helped shape policy on medically assisted death (MAID) in Canada. The philosophy professor argues that an ideal end-of-life legislation would be respectful of individual choice and the wishes of individuals to die according to their own values. "The best ethical argument is that patient autonomy is a fundamental value," Schafer told IDEAS host Nahlah Ayed. He discusses the role of philosophy in addressing complex ethical dilemmas confronting individuals, and society as a whole.

In the first episode of a special daily series during the 2025 ASCO Annual Meeting, Dr. John Sweetenham discusses the results of 2 studies on the treatment of advanced colorectal cancer plus an additional study exploring the association of Medicaid expansion with cancer survival outcomes. Transcript Dr. John Sweetenham: Hello, and welcome to our special coverage of the 2025 ASCO Annual Meeting on the ASCO Daily News Podcast. I'm your host, Dr. John Sweetenham, and I'll be bringing you brief analysis on selected abstracts from each day of the Meeting. My disclosures are available in the transcript of this episode.  Today, I'll be reviewing three abstracts, the first two of which address the treatment of advanced colorectal cancer. Today's first study is Abstract 3501. These data were presented by Dr. Heinz-Josef Lenz from the USC Norris Comprehensive Cancer Center and report on the expanded analysis of the CheckMate-8HW trial. This was a phase 3, international, multicenter trial in patients with MSI-high/MMR-deficient metastatic colorectal cancer, who were randomized between nivolumab (nivo) alone, nivolumab plus ipilumomab (ipi) or investigators' choice of chemotherapy (FOLFOX or FOLFIRI) with or without bevacizumab or cetuximab. The study showed that nivo plus ipi demonstrated superior progression-free survival compared with chemotherapy in the first-line setting and superior progression-free survival compared with nivo alone across all lines of therapy. These results led to the approval of nivo + ipi in the first-line setting in patients with MSI-H/dMMR mCRC in the U.S., the EU, and many other countries.  In today's presentation, Dr. Lenz reported on the expanded analyses of nivo plus ipi versus nivo across all lines of therapy and longer follow-up results for nivo and ipi versus chemo in the first-line setting. With longer follow up (the median is now at 47 months) nivo and ipi continued to show progression-free survival benefit compared with chemotherapy with a median PFS of 54.1 months versus 5.9 months, for a hazard ratio of 0.21.  Additionally, the analysis of the effects on PFS2, defined as the time from randomization to progression after subsequent systemic therapy, start of second subsequent systemic therapy, or death, showed that compared with chemotherapy, first-line nivo and ipi was associated with a 72% reduction in the risk of death or disease progression, despite the fact that 71% of those who progressed following chemotherapy crossed over to receive subsequent immunotherapy. The study also showed that across all lines, nivo and ipi demonstrated superior progression-free survival compared with nivo alone, the median not reached versus 39.3 months, for a hazard ratio of 0.62. No new toxicity signals emerged after further analysis. Most treatment-related adverse events with possible immune etiology were observed within the first six months of therapy. The results for PFS2 are particularly significant. Up to now, there has been some reluctance to use nivo and ipi as first-line therapy, partly because of its toxicity profile and based on the rationale that it would be active after other frontline therapies. The observation in this study that the beneficial effects of nivo and ipi are maintained downstream is compelling. The results suggest that delaying the use of this combination to the second line or later may compromise subsequent PFS and supports the use of nivo and ipi as a standard-of-care frontline option for MSI-H/dMMR metastatic colorectal cancer. Moving on, the next study I'm featuring today is Abstract 3503, presented by Dr. Jeanne Tie from the Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre and the Walter and Eliza Hall Medical Institute of Medical Research from Melbourne, Australia. This study reported the impact of circulating tumor DNA (ctDNA)-guided adjuvant chemotherapy escalation in stage III colon cancer, focused on the primary analysis of the ctDNA-positive cohort from the randomized DYNAMIC-III trial. As background, about 30% of patients with stage III colon cancer will recur following standard-of-care adjuvant therapy with oxaliplatin-based regimens. And current data show that for those patients with high-risk disease, 6 months of chemotherapy is associated with a lower recurrence rate than 3 months. Circulating tumor DNA following initial surgery has been shown to be a strong independent prognostic factor for these patients, but questions remain about how ctDNA can be used for adaptation of treatment. Questions regarding treatment adaptation were addressed in the DYNAMIC-III trials – specifically, does treatment escalation benefit those who are ctDNA positive following surgery, and can therapy be de-escalated for those who are ctDNA negative. The first of these 2 questions – treatment escalation in the positive group – is the subject of this report. One thousand and two patients were randomized in this study, between ctDNA-informed therapy (502) or standard management (500). Of those patients included in the intent to treat cohorts, 129 were ctDNA positive in the ctDNA-informed arm compared with 130 in the standard management arm. Various pre-planned treatment escalation protocols were used, depending on the choice of first-line therapy. With a median follow up of 42.2 months, there was no difference in 3-year relapse free survival between the ctDNA informed group (48%) and the standard management group (52%). There was, however, a highly significant difference in relapse-free survival for patients who cleared ctDNA by the end of treatment compared with those who didn't. The authors concluded that the recurrence risk for this group remains high, at about 50%, after adjuvant therapy and that it increases with higher ctDNA burden, but treatment escalation didn't appear to reduce the recurrence risk. Clearance of ctDNA was associated with a favorable outcome, suggesting that as more effective treatments are developed in the future for this group, ctDNA will likely prove to have major utility. Changing gears now, my final selection for today is Abstract 11006, presented by Dr. Elizabeth Shafer from the American Cancer Society. This study explored the association of Medicaid expansion with 5-year survival after a cancer diagnosis.  Dr. Schafer began her presentation by providing some historical perspective on the impact of the Affordable Care Act on reducing the number of uninsured adults aged less than 65 years in the United States. She then reviewed some recent data on the impact of Medicaid expansion on cancer care, including improved screening rates, improved access to cancer surgery, and an increase in earlier cancer diagnosis. The current study builds on earlier data from the American Cancer Society which showed improved 2-year overall survival for patients with newly diagnosed cancer following Medicaid expansion. The new study reported by Dr. Schafer examined 5-year cause-specific survival in individuals with cancer since Medicaid expansion, analyzed according to cancer type and various demographic and social factors. Using data from more than 813,000 individuals from 26 states that expanded Medicaid compared with more than 610,000 from 12 states that did not, the authors reported that similar improvements in 5-year cause-specific survival were observed in the expansion and the non-expansion states, but when analyzed by other factors, differences in outcome emerged. For example, although similar improvements in survival between expansion and non-expansion states were seen in urban communities, there was a significant improvement of 2.55 percentage points in survival for individuals in rural communities in expansion states compared with those in non-expansion states. Similar trends were observed in high poverty areas, where improvements in survival were superior in expansion versus non-expansion states.  When examined by cancer type, the authors observed greater improvements in 5-year survival for those with pancreatic, lung, and colorectal cancer, possibly due to improvements in screening and early access to treatment.  The authors concluded that those residing in rural and high-poverty areas experienced the most improvement in cause-specific cancer survival following Medicaid expansion. In summary, it's encouraging to see an improving trend in cancer mortality overall, independent of Medicaid expansion, but it's also important to remember that this is yet another study which confirms how implementation of the ACA has improved cancer outcomes and begun to address some of the disparities in cancer care. Drawing from his groundbreaking work in counterintelligence and his bestselling books The Like Switch and The Truth Detector, Dr. Schafer unpacks the psychological techniques used to build rapport, uncover hidden truths, and ethically guide conversations in both business and life. Whether you're negotiating deals, leading teams, or building relationships, the insights shared here are nothing short of transformative.Kelly and Dr. Schafer explore real-world examples of elicitation—how subtle cues and well-placed questions can unlock critical information without confrontation. From reading non-verbal cues to crafting empathetic statements, you'll learn how to master the unspoken side of communication and gain an edge in high-stakes interactions. This episode is packed with practical takeaways that can immediately elevate your ability to connect, persuade, and lead with confidence.Key Takeaways:1. People have a powerful psychological need to correct others, making “presumptive statements” a highly effective elicitation tool.2. Friendship signals—like eyebrow flashes, head tilts, and genuine smiles—are subtle but vital cues for building trust and rapport.3. The principle of “If I make you feel good about you, you'll like me” underpins nearly every successful relationship-building strategy.4. Elicitation works best when it's undetectable; most people won't even realize they've revealed valuable information.5. Empathic statements keep the focus on the other person and can deepen trust faster than direct questioning ever could.6. Bracketing (giving a high and low estimate) invites correction and is a powerful way to learn sensitive information like salaries or margins.7. Direct flattery can raise defenses, but indirect praise through intermediaries or subtle validation builds influence.8. Effective listening means silencing your internal dialogue and responding to what's actually said, not what you plan to say next.9. Most people are already using elicitation techniques unknowingly—naming them allows you to master and defend against them.10. Practicing one technique at a time builds confidence and competence; start with presumptive and build from there.

AI is no longer a “nice-to-have”—it's a game-changer for dealerships that want to win in today's competitive market. In this episode of Dealer Talk with Jen Suzuki, I sit down with Lance Schafer, General Manager of Product and Technology at LotLinx, who's been leading the charge in applying machine learning to the core areas where dealers often struggle most: inventory management, pricing, and customer experience. Lance breaks down how traditional dealership strategies—like pricing based on gut feeling or managing inventory with old sales data—are being replaced with data-driven, real-time AI systems that help stores become more profitable and efficient. We talk about: How AI shifts inventory strategy from reactive to predictive How dynamic pricing boosts both speed and profitability Using machine learning to match inventory with what customers actually want The biggest hurdles in AI adoption and how to overcome them What trends are coming next, and how to prepare now Whether you're just exploring AI or already testing tools, this episode will give you clarity on where the real impact is—and how to start modernizing before the market forces your hand. Johns Hopkins earthquake engineer and cold-formed steel researcher Ben Schafer introduces the NHERI CFS10 project underway at the NHERI UC San Diego shake table facility. Tara Hutchinson, Schafer's co-PI on the project, is a research engineer at UC San Diego. (We will meet Hutchinson in an upcoming episode.) The CFS10 shake table experiment caps off a long-term collaboration between NSF researchers and industry. The goal: to understand seismic performance of taller cold-formed steel buildings. The structure on the shake table mimics an apartment building or hotel; it exceeds current height and system limits – which will help the team understand how far engineers can go designing for CFS structural elements, subsystems, and non-structural elements, like stairs, gas lines and sprinkler systems. The CFS10 shake table tests are slated for early June, 2025. The seemingly outsized strength of cold-formed steel is not well-known. In this episode, earthquake engineer Ben Schafer, Johns Hopkins University, describes a research-industry collaboration with the automotive industry resulting in code changes for high-strength sheet-steel. Sheet steel has also been successfully tested in flooring systems. The upcoming CFS10 shake table test at UC San Diego is the high-rise building test for cold-formed steel. Schafer addresses misconceptions that structural engineers have regarding CFS: Basically: cold-formed steel looks too thin to be strong. However, with high-strength sheet steel, deformations do not correlate to lack of strength, which is something that automotive and aircraft engineers have long understood.
