Remember When is a show that brings together football fans from across the UK to talk about the seismic moments that shaped their club's history - and had a massive impact on their own lives too. Rather than being about tribal division or comparing between the haves versus the have-nots, it's about the stories, the memories and the moments that unite us as football fans - whoever we support. This time, Remember When looks back at two of the most memorable FA Cup triumphs in English football history. Wimbledon and Portsmouth have suffered more than their fair share of hardship over the years, with trophy cabinets smaller than plenty of their Football League counterparts. But both clubs and their fans share an increasingly rare privilege: they won the FA Cup against the odds. Broadcaster Rick Edwards is joined by two guests who were right at the heart of the action. Marc Jones fell in love with Wimbledon after an inadvertent trip to Plough Lane in the 1980s and followed their ragtag bunch of cult heroes to the 1988 FA Cup final, where the Crazy Gang ended the day on that hallowed top Wembley step after beating a brilliant Liverpool team. Jeff Harris made a similar pilgrimage twenty years later, when his beloved Portsmouth scratched and clawed their way to the final of the 2008 FA Cup. He'd recently returned from working overseas for the British Army and watched Kanu and company complete their own journey to greatness at the new Wembley. Marc and Jeff share their hilarious and often heartfelt memories of seeing their local clubs reach footballing immortality. From that snowballing belief as their clubs marched through the rounds at the expense of numerous top-flight counterparts, to organising double-decker buses and flights back from military bases to make sure they joined friends and family at Wembley. They also remember the aftermath, as Jeff bolted back down to Portsmouth and joined in celebrations across the city while Marc caught sight of Wimbledon manager Bobby Gould bringing the trophy back to Plough Lane at the front of the team coach. They also touch on how these victories marked important moments in their own young lives, with football acting as the catalyst for moments of joy, melancholy and belonging. Remember When is a celebration of what football's all about: moments etched into history for the fans and players of two clubs who might never experience it again. This is Remember When… We Actually Won Something.

The Chelsea FanCast looks back, season by season, to 50 Years of Chelsea history from 1970 to the present day.Stamford Chidge is joined by Jonathan Kydd and Clayton Beerman to look back at the 1979-80 season.Chelsea enters the last season of a very turbulent decade, back in Division Two and as the song says, “we won't be here for long”. Well, that was the thinking anyway!England's 1966 World Cup final hat-trick hero, Geoff Hurst is appointed manager with his West Ham side kick Bobby Gould as assistant. When Chelsea hammered Leyton Orient 7-3 it looked like some of Hurst's goalscoring magic was rubbing off on the players. In fact, by the end of December, Chelsea were sitting top of the division and were still top with only one month of the season to go.Bolstered by Clive Walker's goals in a fine season for the winger who was Chelsea's POTY, Chelsea had to beat Oldham in their final match to secure promotion. They did, but sadly, Birmingham and Sunderland both drew which was enough to leave Chelsea agonisingly 1 point off the promotion places. Had Mickey Droy not hit the post in the 1st match of the season v Sunderland, we'd have been promoted.Still, we had the antics of Petar Borota our mad Yugoslavian keeper to keep us entertained and with Colin Lee, Colin Viljoen and Colin Pates debuting in the season, how many teams could lay claim to having three Colin's in the team?To help us celebrate 50 Years of Chelsea we've partnered with 3Retro who have a superb collection of Chelsea retro gear and are offering 10% OFF when you use the 3RETRO10 code and if you order over £50 of merch you get FREE UK delivery. In this episode Bobby talks about his playing and managerial career, some general football topics and starts with his discussing City's performance in Wednesday's game at Norwich City In an illustrious career as a player and manager Bobby Gould's association with Bristol City is but a small part. Signed from West Brom in December 1972 for £69k [a lot of money in those days] after John Galley's transfer to Nottingham Forest it was a short tempestuous period which ended in November the following year when he was sold to West Ham for £80k. Bobby scored 15 goals in 35 appearances. He memorably fell out on the pitch with Gerry Gow [think Dyer/Bowyer 2005 and our own Orr/Carey 2006], scored and played in goal in a match against WBA following Ray Cashley's arm break, and fell out with Alan Dicks on a matter of principle which probably led to his early departure. He managed over 600 games at club level [including 2 spells with the Gas] with the high point being steering Wimbledon to their famous 1988 FA Cup win over Liverpool. Bobby was also manager of the Welsh national side which was his last major job in football Bobby lives in Portishead where his home has been for all bar a few years since he move to City 48 years ago

Bobby Gould's tenure as Wales manager in the 90s will go down as one of the most bizarre eras in the history of sport. To relive the horror, this week we're joined by Wales' foremost 90s football expert; comedian and actor Elis James. There's also a discussion about 90s management styles and some cracking feedback from listeners; including one fantastic story about bumping into Colin Cooper on a water slide.Elis brought his favourite 90s football clips which included this one of Leyton Orient manager John Sitton: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nYDIMWpcKqIAnd this one of then-Huddersfield manager Neil Warnock (note chimney in the middle of dressing room): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=im85NY4NKt4Meanwhile, in follow up to episode one thank you to Chris Rann for sending us a clip of Ali Dia almost scoring: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=k9vVV8Q9CXcAnd also thank you to Oliver Wilson who sent us this story about Derby County:Last week you discussed shirt sponsorship and Matt Le Tissier mentioned the Southampton once wore a Denmark kit that had been rebadged as Southampton. He also pointed out that Southampton manufactured their own kit for a couple of seasons. A mix of these two scenarios happened at Derby County for the 1994/95 season. In 1993/1994 Derby had worn a kit manufactured by 'well known' sportswear firm Bukta. As a big admirer of the strip i was delighted to see the Rams wearing exactly the same shirt at the start of 1994/95, however the Bukta logo had been replaced by the clubs own stab at kit manufacturing 'Rams Pro Wear'. From what i can remember, the Rams Pro Wear logo had literally just been stitched over the top of the Bukta Motif. It only lasted for one season and i am unaware of the reasoning, i'd like to think the owners wanted to manufacture the kit themselves to save money only to give up and just recycle the Bukta shirts.Photo's of the 2 shirts attached for reference. Thank you all for listening, if you have any favourite clips of footballers trying their hands at acting, weird rules for childhood football or stories of playing with people that went on to become professional then the place to send them is: hello@quicklykevin.com See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
