The crew reviews a single malt whiskey from Bulliet Bourbon. Although, I'm not a fan of Malt Whiskey in general, this was a pleasant surprise. This also had one of the most unique flavors, I've had in a while.

For the next few weeks Matt and I are going to watch and discuss Jordan Peeles films. Starting with 2017's "Get Out". We pair this movie with a new limited release whiskey, Bulliets 12 year old rye.

Master Taster. It just sounds like a really cool job. But what does it take to become a Master Taster? Old Forester is a brand that has a history of hiring people for this role and their newest is Melissa Rift. Ryan and I have had the pleasure of getting to know Melissa over the years but it was in different roles she held in the industry. Yet, thanks to notifications on indeed.com, she was able to apply and land this role. We talk about her history and career in the industry and then we dive into the position and what it takes to be a Master Taster. This spring we picked two delicious Bulliet single barrels. Bourbon World High Rye which is the "B" mashbill of 36% rye and the "1" yeast feautring a rich tropical fruit and leather profile. Given a 10-12yr age range for this one with only a 7 case yield. We also selected a Bourbon World "Fruit Bomb" with utilizes the "E" or 21% rye mashbill and the Number "2" yeast which gives the spirit a fruity aroma and creamy texture. This is the the 8-10 yr range. Since these are both much OLDER barrels than what the current Bulleit facility has been operating you can bet these are older MGP barrels. They are bottled at 104 proof, perfect for the mash and yeasts used. These are definitely higher quality single barrels than the current profile of the program itself, so take advantage a grab a few. They'll be incredible daily drinkers. 

It's Bourbon Heritage Month so we have a spirits driven episode for y'all! This week I chat with Brian Schmidt of Reserve Bar, an online liquor store with a massive selection of great spirits. Brian travels the country picking out single barrels for Reserve Bars Top Flight series. In this episode he curates a flight of unique single barrel picks that he selected himself (some haven't been released yet). We begin with four pours of bourbon. In a surprise announcement last week, the College Board declared they are cutting out the whole first half of the AP World History curriculum (a.k.a. Periods I, II, & III).  The course is now going to be just World History from 1450 CE. We think this is a truck load of bullshit.  Tune in to find out exactly what kind of bullshit this is as well as a few reasonable arguments in favor of this change. This Christmas week -- Prospects for meaningful gun control … and prospects for Middle East peaceThe Newtown shootings have once again focused the nation on the easy availability of guns. Today we talk with Ben Palumbo, an old Washington hand who has worked with the Brady Campaign against gun violence, and he tells of a politician who stood up to the NRA and won – nearly 50 years ago! We also talk with Middle East expert Professor Richard  Bulliet about the prospects of stability in the region. He says you can’t go from dictatorship to democracy without instability. And Bill Press speaks with Senator Tom Udall, who predicts the Senate will actually modify the filibuster rule. Ben Palumbo Longtime Washington political operative Ben Palumbo has worked for decades on gun control issues, including a stint on the board of the Brady Campaign. In an interview with us before the tragedy in Newtown, Connecticut, Palumbo said nothing will happen until politicians are ready to stand up to the National Rifle Association.
