    Ivy Insights

The Bourbon Pursuit podcast is a must-listen for anyone with even the slightest interest in bourbon. The content is always entertaining and informative, providing listeners with a deep dive into all aspects of bourbon. Whether it's exploring the history, methods, brands, or people behind bourbon, there is always something new and interesting to learn. From long-format episodes that cover specific topics like yeast to quick reviews of new bottles, the podcast offers a diverse range of content that caters to all bourbon enthusiasts. Even though I no longer have a commute, I still make time to listen to this podcast because it consistently delivers great content.

One of the best aspects of The Bourbon Pursuit podcast is the wealth of knowledge and expertise shared by the hosts Kenny and Ryan. They bring on guests from the industry, including master distillers, brand ambassadors, tasters, and others in the whiskey world who provide valuable insights into the bourbon industry. The conversations are thoughtful and engaging, making it easy to immerse yourself in the world of bourbon. Additionally, Fred Minnick's "Above the Char" segments are enlightening and add another layer of expertise to the podcast.

Another great aspect is their Patreon membership program which includes a barrel pick program. As a member, you not only get exclusive perks but also have access to even more amazing content related to bourbon.

While there aren't many negative aspects to this podcast overall, one thing worth mentioning is that some may find it overwhelming if they are new to bourbon or don't have much prior knowledge about it. The discussions can sometimes be technical or assume a certain level of familiarity with bourbon terminology. However, this can be easily overcome by starting with their "Bourbon 101" episodes or using their extensive backlog to catch up on any missed information.

In conclusion, The Bourbon Pursuit podcast is an excellent resource for both seasoned bourbon lovers and those just beginning their journey into this fascinating world. With its entertaining and informative content, knowledgeable hosts, and a wide range of topics covered, it is undeniably one of the best podcasts out there for bourbon enthusiasts. I highly recommend giving it a listen and joining their community of whiskey lovers.

Is the era of the secret sourced bottle finally over, or are we just getting started? Today, we're digging into contract distillation. We're tracing the roots from the early days of "shhh, don't tell them it's MGP" to the massive, high-tech operations like Bardstown Bourbon Company that have turned being a NDP into a badge of honor. But as you, the consumer, gets more sophisticated, the demand for transparency is hitting an all-time high, and we're talking about why "faking the funk" with a made-up story just doesn't fly in 2026. We also tackle the elephant in the room: market oversaturation. With speculative investments pouring in and foreign tariffs squeezing exports, the landscape is shifting under our feet. It's not all bad news. We're envisioning a true whiskey renaissance as those massive inventories of aging barrels finally hit the market, likely leading to some of the most unique, high-quality releases we've ever seen. We also get into the weeds on the "finishing" craze. There is a lot of noise in the market right now, so we're asking the hard questions: Does a wood-finished product actually land better with the consumer than a wine, spirit, or even a honey-maple finish? Plus, we get honest about the "gut feeling"—could we tell Sakura Bloom was going to be a hit before it ever touched a shelf, or is it always a gamble until the first reviews start rolling in?Show Notes: Market Challenges and Opportunities Product Development: Sakura Bloom Bourbon Consumer Reception and Market Trends The Anticipation of Product Success Building Trust with Consumers The Relentless Pursuit of Perfection Future Product Strategies and Market Adaptation Learn more about your ad choices. Is the bourbon market hitting a breaking point, or are we just drowning in a sea of average whiskey? Or maybe we're just trying to pick at things because that's what we do! Today's show didn't have a theme other than airing some grievances we see across the bourbon landscape. And the guy who has all the hot takes is Matt "The Colonel" Kusek. Matt never pulls his punches, and today we'll talk about the non-stop barrage of Limited Time Offerings (LTOs) and if NDPs are more exciting now than traditional heritage distilleries. We kick things off with a candid look at the struggle of creating fresh content in a saturated market and ask the tough question, has the rush to release more bottles caused a massive dip in quality? We've seen it in secondary markets because if every release is special then nothing is special. We also dive into the psychology of the "hunt" and why consumer demands are shifting. Matt poses a challenge to the big brands, questioning if they're falling behind while smaller, more nimble players to innovate. And we debate the future of "trophy" bottles like Pappy Van Winkle and whether collectability can survive. If you've ever looked at a shelf of $100 bottles and wondered if any are actually worth it, maybe this episode will tell you it's all psychology. Show Notes: The challenges of producing engaging content in the bourbon industry The current state and originality of limited-time offerings Consumer behavior and the perception of high-status brands like Pappy Van Winkle The impact of non-distiller producers on quality and collectible options Humorous tales from personal barrel picks and bourbon adventures Predictions for the future of collectible and innovative whiskeys Learn more about your ad choices. It's that time of year when we polish off the crystal ball and try to guess exactly where the bourbon industry is headed in 2026. The panel dives into some high-stakes predictions on the rise of exclusive distillery clubs and the portential rise of the craft sector by leaning into Direct-to-Consumer sales. We also get into some scarier territory—think tariffs and the possibility of major distilleries actually pausing production—while others weighs in on the acquisition frenzy that's continuing to reshape the landscape. We also tackle the death of FOMO on limited releases, the push for even higher-proof offerings, and the wild possibility of NIL deals between universities and distilleries. Will your favorite college quarterback have a signature bottle pick soon? We're breaking it all down to see how economic and political factors will keep the bourbon scene shaking in the year ahead.
