See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
Lifelong Seattle resident Matthew Phillips has seen Car Pros, a family business started by his father, grow from a single small used car lot into a seven-store automotive retail group operating in both Washington and Southern California and totaling $1 billion in annual sales. Under Matthew's stewardship, Car Pros has become the top Kia retailer in the country. Matthew also has an educational background that's as impressive as his auto industry success, including MBAs from Cornell University and Queen's University of Ontario as well as an MA in organizational psychology from Columbia University's Teachers College. In this episode, Matthew talks with our host Derek D about why sticking with the Kia and Hyundai brands during tough times was rewarding in the long run, why electric vehicles may not be for everyone yet but are a great choice for many people currently, and why auto dealers therefore need to educate their customer base on electrification. They also discuss why automakers that are more vertically integrated have fared better under supply chain pressure, why Matthew's favorite recent car is the Kia Stinger, and more.Matthew Phillips | Car Pros Automotive GroupEpisode Highlights:How Matthew's organizational psychology degree taught him the vital importance of change managementWhy supply chain problems go deeper than microchips - and why even paint is affectedThe “irregular situation” Car Pros dealt with regarding their recently-sold VW franchiseWhat makes customers leave dealerships with “less car than they came in for”“Normalize change in your culture - let's make it so that change isn't scary… let's try to give people tools to deal with it.”— Matthew Phillips|| Dealer News Today is a Dave Cantin Group production
The ever-expanding Genesis portfolio initially saw a rollout of luxury sedans. Following that was the current focus on its solid crossover lineup. Well, the recently refreshed Genesis G70 is proof that the folks at Genesis aren't ignoring the shrinking sedan segment. Sharing a platform with the Kia Stinger, it might be harder to stomach the more expensive G70. Though, there are huge differences in styling and interior appointments. That said, they both share the turbocharged 3.3-liter V6 that makes 365 hp. This turbocharged V6 is an optional engine that replaces the standard-issue 2.0-liter turbocharged I4. Power travels through an eight-speed automatic transmission and into the Genesis G70's all-wheel-drive system. On this episode of Quick Spin, host Wesley Wren puts the Genesis G70 through its paces and takes you along for the ride. Wren walks you around the G70 and highlights its styling and interior features. Wren also describes what the interior feels like. Afterward, Wren takes you on a live drive review and talks about the G70's dynamics and his experiences with the car. Peppered between those segments, Wren talks with Patrick Carone and expands on his thoughts about the car. Closing the show, the two talk about what makes the Genesis G70 so special.

Tulemas on uhiuus Toyota Land Cruiser - uus šassii, rohkem tehnoloogiat, vähem mootorit.

The second segment sees Bruce and Smith choose a hilarious group of cars under $5,000 for a retro 1980's cheap car challenge, and their choices are shockingly similar.

Staying with the Cadillac, the GM's luxury brand recently made headlines with the unveiling of its all-electric Lyriq concept SUV; we talk about the rocky history of electric cars at General Motors, the interesting platform the Lyriq will be based on, and how this car will compete with Tesla's offerings. We also answer questions about fun alternatives to the Hyundai Palisade, how electric truck maker Rivian is stepping up the battery game, tips for snowbirds to maintain their Mazda Miata and Mazda3, and whether it is a good idea to use a padded seat belt cover. ----------------------------------- Have a question for our experts? Kia are about to bring their brand new car, the Stinger into Australia. It is a biggish car with rear wheel drive and the top of the range has a twin turbo V6 engine. They say they designed the car with a desire to reflect the elegant 1970s Grand touring vehicles. But it is also coming onto the Australian market at the time the traditional rear wheel drive family cars, the Holden Commodore and the Ford Falcon are ceasing production. I caught up with Damien Meredith the Kia Chief Operating Officer to understand just what Kia expects from this vehicle.
Episode 22 features good friend Lief Sorensen, and I've split it into 2 parts for you. In part 2 we go head to head in a $15,000 Used Car Challenge... so stay tuned, and subscribe for updates!
