What can be talked about with a movie that is made by a filmmaker (in Todd Phillips, of War Dogs and School for Scoundrels, and some other movies I'm leaving out) who doesn't really give a damn about comic books, that takes (to put it mildly) liberally from Scorsese's Taxi Driver and The King of Comedy, and features Joaquin Phoenix so skinny that one may want to reach out to Christian Bale so he can give some advice about not becoming TOO gaunt for a role? Turns out, quite a lot! Is it good? Not good? We'll have to find out as Jack and Korey dissect JOKER 2019, the origin movie that we don't need, but maybe we (and by we I don't mean everyone) deserve... maybe. Probably not. We'll see. And maybe at some point Korey will do an imitation of the song from BATMAN where Batman sings about DEAD PARENTS - speaking of which, SPOILERS at 40 minutes in. Please send your very kind and wonderful email feedback to wagesofcinema@gmail.com and/or facebook, twitter and Instragram. The "Send in the Clowns" clip is from The Simpsons, and the Joker midway at the Spoiler is Caesar Romero from the "Batman" TV show.

The Joker - An Iconic Cultural Villain (With Special Guest Mike Black) On this week's episode of WatchThisW/RickRamos, Old Friend Mike Black returns to The Fortress of Ultimate Darkness to discuss the history of The Joker - one of the most important villains in all of comics, film, and literature for that matter. We discuss the various portrayals of the Batman villain, from Caesar Romero thru Jack Nicholson, Heath Ledger, Jared Leto, Mark Hamil, and - now - Joaquin Phoenix. Why has this character so wholly captured the imaginations (and fears) of readers and audiences the world over. He is a figure far more important than a simple fictional character. There's no one I know better to dig into this history than my friend Mike Black. Take a listen and let us know what you think. Questions, Comments, Complaints, & Suggestions can be directed to gondoramos@yahoo.com. As always, thanks for your continued love & support.

If you thought our Black Widow episode was a total camping trip, our take on season two’s final Joker appearance may be even more so! Intentionally or not, Caesar Romero’s take this time has plenty of gay overtones. At the same time, the Joker is somehow more emotional and human this time. But has he become less intelligent? But the arc’s stated subject is pop art, and its opinion is: it sucks. But Stanford Sherman’s don’t-know-don’t-care attitude about pop art (and sniggering at critics’ reception toward it) is part of what makes this arc so hilarious. Also, what does this episode say about the real mission of Batman and Robin? Plus, in the Bat Research Lab, the Legends of the Superheroes cowl mystery continues; the surprising answer to the question “Just who is Mother Machree, anyway?”; and Tim’s upcoming visit to the William Dozier archives (scroll down the left-side menu for the link to "Scripts Television", and send us your wish list by August 2!) Also, the Voivod version of the Batman theme, and your mail!
