There is something undeniably freaky about puppets and mannequins. This time in the cave we look at two movies which feature this fact at the core of their stories. We start off with "Magic" from 1978. Directed by Richard Attenborough and starring true Hollywood heavyweights Anthony Hopkins, Ann-Margaret and Burgess Meredith, and with a script by the legendary William Goldman, based on his own novel...it's no suprise that it's great! This is a dark tale of derangement and psychosis, with young Anthony Hopkins turning in a powerful performance. It's great, watch it! We follow that with 1988's "Pin" from director Sandor Stern. This is a bizarre family drama where a strict father has convinced his children that the medical mannequin in his office can speak. Using ventriliquism, he lets the mannequin handle key moments of fatherly advice and this produces two VERY disturbed children who grow up to be VERY disturbed teenagers. It's weird and disturbing but also well-shot and assembled. Listen in to find out if it sounds like it's for you. We then proceed to list the various things we've been watching for fun. Please let us know what you thought of the show, and send us some suggestions for future episodes. You can email us at flickersfrom@yahoo.com or flickersfrom@gmail.com. You can also reach us on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter. Sorry about the audio quality. There were some technical issues that have been resolved, but we didn't realize until we had finished recording.
Snippet From the Show “I think that the question of love is something really pressing today and the hearts and minds of everyone, especially of young people.” – Anne Marie Bollman Today's special guest is Anne Marie Bollman, a senior at the University of Notre Dame studying the Program of Liberal Studies and Theology with a minor in history. On campus, she is a student worker for the de Nicola Center for Ethics and Culture and is deeply involved in Right to Life, coordinating its annual adopt-a-mom fundraiser. Previously, she has worked for Paradisus Dei on the What is Love? project (https://www.whatislove.org/) and is thrilled to see the impact it will have on young people's lives. After studying abroad in France and volunteering at Lourdes, she is now putting her love of the French language and culture to use in a thesis exploring Mary's Immaculate Conception as a response to Enlightenment thought. Anne Marie is also proud to call Texas home. In today's conversation, Anne Marie shares what it's like being a student on a Catholic campus today as well as some insights into how young people approach the subject of love, dating, and relationships. Welcome to the 800th episode of the Richard Crouse Show. Today, we're getting nostalgic. I'll have a look back at my favorite moments from 216,000 seconds and 800 episodes of the show. Slash from Guns ‘N Roses talk about how his parents gave him a love of horror movies; show business legend Ann Margaret tells us how she got the nickname Slugger; Hugh Jackman reveals how he overcame his fear, onstage and off; Jodie Foster tells me about how she chooses the movies she wants to make; Eric McCormack talks about what he learned from his every first play, when he was in grade one; Malcolm McDowell on life as an actor; Michael Caine talks about being an icon and much, much more. Some of these interviews were done in studio, many of them were done in hotel rooms in lots of different cities, and at least one of them was done in the back of a cab. The thing that binds them all is great conversation and hopefully, some insight into the lives of the people you know from television, movies, music or literature.

Elsewhere in the Mad Men universe, we see Don going toe-to-toe with one of his oldest rivals, Betty's father Gene. But he's been warming up on awkward conversation thanks to a double date with Lane Pryce and his wife Rebecca. In case this is your first time digging into Mad Men Men, our humble little baby podcast recaps Mad Men from the perspective of someone who hasn't really watched the show, someone who went through it once a long time ago, and a superfan who watches excessively it instead of having a functional social life. Dennis is joined via Zoom by Wendy Miller, the entrepreneur behind the new Ask Your Gay BFF Oracle Cards, a deck of cards that, in Wendy's words, “force people to get real about what they want out of life.” Wendy talks about where the idea to create the cards came from, starting her company Card To Believe, plying her gay male friends with alcohol to get their sassy retorts and finding the perfect black velvet bags to package them in. She also talks about the “woo-woo” aspects of the cards and how she's always been an extremely intuitive person. She even recalls that one time she had a nightmare involving the vibrator in her nightstand and how the very next day, the nightmare came true! Wendy can't vouch for any “magical” quality that the cards may or may not have, but she believes that the cards' true power is that they get people to get very specific in the way they ask for what they want out of life. Other topics include: making her worst show biz mistake ever while working on the Oprah show, winning an Emmy for writing on The Wayne Brady Show and wanting to take her trophy to White Castle, her obsession with Christmas, writing fan letters to Betty White and Ann-Margaret and getting responses back from both and how she turned her wedding into a game show. www.cardtobelieve.com

Kerry and Collin are joined by their friend Christopher Grace ("Mixed Nuts" episode) to talk about this early-'90s classic comedy, "Grumpy Old Men," featuring the kings of the Odd Couples, Jack Lemmon and Walter Matthau. How is their chemistry with the great Ann-Margaret? Did Burgess Meredith write his own one-liners? How does Prince figure into all of this? All this, plus a look at two other films featuing Lemmon and Matthau (separately) in the We Just Say Book segment. Book movies covered: "Bigger Than Life" (1956) "Le Jetee" (1962) "Glengarry Glen Ross" (1992)
Earl Skakel is a standup comedy BEAST. As sexy as he is funny, Earl dislikes 'roast master general' Jeffrey Ross, but is a big fan of the 1986 John Frankenheimer nasty neo-noir '52 Pick-Up,' starring Roy Scheider and Ann Margaret. Plus, he loves Michael Mann's 'Crime Story.' Featuring special guest host El Horrible, a Dabbleverse hero. See you at DabbleCon Feb. 3 and 4. WATPLive.com
"The Ventriloquist's Splintered Hand." Matthew and Quinton know a thing or two about dummies, making them the perfect pair to discuss Sir Richard Attenborough's unsung gem from 1978: Magic. Starring Sir Anthony Hopkins, Ann-Margaret, and Burgess Meredith, this psychological thriller, based on William Goldman's novel of the same name, involves a fractured mind, a dummy named Fats, and a few dead bodies. Quinton provides all the behind-the-scenes info, while Matthew takes you through the history of ventriloquism, what seems like an endless list of period-appropriate serial killers, and the landscape of 1970s entertainment. Join us to learn more about the movie that prepared Attenborough to make his 1982 epic, Gandhi.
In this episode I talk about; those pet peeves that wild me up, mental health with Britney Spears, Elvis and Ann Margaret love, Perez Hilton and Chris crack me up, Jlo non-stop complainers, and Cher in love. In the final scene of Viva Las Vegas, Elvis and Ann Margaret stand in front of a wood-framed chapel, happily married, running out into the street as the credits roll. Nearly 60 years later, you can get married at that very same church -- by Elvis. Well, a fake Elvis. Numerous spur of the moment nuptials would solidify Las Vegas as the capital of fast love. Known for the quickie wedding and... the quickie divorce. Did you know Ria Gable (Clark Gable's ex) escaped to a Nevada divorce ranch? Or that divorce ranches were even a thing? That's what this episode is all about: How Vegas revolutionized marriage and – in the process – launched a two billion dollar industry. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
