How incredible are all of these performances? Between this movie and filming the TV show, was the studio working these actors like dogs or what? Why is Batman stashing all his vehicles (land, sea and air) right out in broad daylight? Why are so many marine animals being obliterated throughout the film? And who were they kidding with that anti-alcohol line, everyone on this set was drinking before noon every day! PLUS: Does Bruce Wayne have the Memento memory disease and that's why he has to label so many things in the Batcave? Batman: The Movie stars Adam West, Burt Ward, Lee Meriwether, Cesar Romero, Burgess Meredith, Frank Gorshin, Alan Napier, Neil Hamilton, Stafford Repp, Madge Blake, and Reginald Denny as Commodore Schmidlapp; directed by Leslie H. Hosts Mat Bradley-Tschirgi, Thrasher, and Alex Miller start their discussion of the Adam West Batman features with 1966's Batman: The Movie. Stars Adam West, Burt Ward, Cesar Romero, and Lee Meriwether. Released between the first two seasons of the Batman TV show, Batman: The Movie features Batman and Robin against a supervillain team-up of the Joker, the Penguin, the Riddler, and the Catwoman. Although it's a bit overstuffed with plot, there's good setpieces here. A subplot with Batman falling for Catwoman undercover in a Russian guise as Kitka has some nice heat to it. Some episodes of the Batman TV show are better than this film, some are worse. It's not going to knock your socks off, but iconic scenes like "Bat Shark Repellant" keep up the fun. Today on the Rarified Heir Podcast we are talking to Kiki Ebsen, daughter of the great Buddy Ebsen. Now, originally, I was going to say the great actor Buddy Ebsen and he definitely was a great actor. But after talking to Kiki we learned that not only did her father act but he also danced, he sang, he wrote books, he was a master sailor of catamarans and he had great comic skills. Some of this we might have known from shows like The Beverly Hillbillies or Barnaby Jones but did you know Buddy Ebsen's career began when he was discovered by newsman Walter Winchell with his sister as part of a dancing team? Or he was cast in the original The Wizard of Oz but wasn't able to be on screen due to reasons we discuss with Kiki? Or that he was the test case for Walt Disney and modern animatronics? No? Well keep listening. We spoke to Kiki about her upcoming June residency at the El Portal Theater in Los Angeles each Friday in June for her one woman show about her father, My Buddy, The Other Side of Oz. Part memoir, part cabaret and part tribute to her father, the show showcases Kiki's storytelling but her singing as well. It's a love of music that led her to Cal Arts which then led in quick succession a job on the road with the band Chicago and then gigs with Tracy Chapman, Boz Scaggs, Christopher Cross & Al Jarreau among others. Working as a professional musician for other people led Kiki to record nine of her own solo albums in the past decade or so and just recently licensing her songs from the 80s to a label who will release them later this year. Along the way we talk about shows & movies like Matt Houston, Davy Crockett, Tom Sawyer, The Kent Chronicles as well as actors Lee Meriwether, Mike Connors, James Arness and more. It was a blast talking to Kiki for this episode and we certainly hope you will like it too. So take a listen to the Rarified Heir podcast with Kiki Ebsen, coming up right now. Everyone has a story.

C is for...CATWOMAN! Catwoman is much more than a feline-themed criminal in a cat-suit. Despite sexy portrayals by Julie Newmar, Lee Meriwether, Eartha Kitt, Michelle Pfeiffer, Halle Berry, Anne Hathaway, Camren Bicondova, or Zoë Kravitz would have you believe, Selina Kyle, AKA Catwoman has the potential to be a much more nuanced character in modern comics. Way back back in 2002, now acclaimed crime-fiction writer Ed Brubaker attempted to do just that - redefine a sexual icon into a feminist one - in his seminal run and reboot of Catwoman. Brubaker created a more low-key, street level portrayal of the character, returning to the East End of Gotham, a forgotten, working class part of the city. Paired with a # of artists - including the late Darwyn Cooke, Cameron Stewart, and Mike Allred - ironically also all dudes - who masterfully create a less sexualized version of Selina. She's joined by her best friend Holly, private eye Slam Bradley, and Dr. Leslie Thompkinz to confront the demons of her past and present. But we ALSO decided to read 2022's Catwoman Lonely City - the acclaimed miniseries by Cliff Chiang - which ventures into the not-too-distant future to follow a middle-aged Selina Kyle, as she investigates a conspiracy related to the death of Batman some 10 years prior. Almost all of the Bat-family is gone, and she's left with her wits, and a handful of super-criminal friends and foes, some of whom have infiltrated city hall. both series ask us to re-examine not just how our society defines crime, but who are the people who define what crime is, and what are the circumstances that drive those we deem criminals to choose the life they do. but also, just a romping good time with a lady in a cat suit.

This week, we're kicking off a new miniseries that's been in the works for months – BATMAN ON FILM, a 10-part critical retrospective of the caped crusader's theatrical film history, coming over the next year in advance of Matt Reeves' The Batman with Robert Pattinson, and at a time where the cultural conversation around policing in America has given us reason to re-evaluate the character and where he fits in the world of 2020. We begin today with Batman  (1966), the film based on the classic TV series starring Adam West and Burt Ward, and featuring a team of classic villains played by Cesar Romero, Burgess Meredith, Lee Meriwether, and Frank Gorshin. It's a brilliant comedy that's a ton of fun to talk about, but its satire is also a lot smarter and more culturally engaged than perhaps meets the eye, and it's arguably a take on Batman we need now more than ever. Sean and Jonathan also talk briefly about their continued experiences with Genshin Impact and Hades, and go over the PlayStation 5 user interface unveiled this week. Time Chart:Intro: 0:00:00 – 0:09:21Stuff: 0:09:21 – 0:32:46News: 0:32:46 – 0:50:33Batman 1966 Review: 0:50:33 – 2:26:59 Subscribe to our YouTube Channel!Subscribe for free to 'The Weekly Stuff' in iTunes!Follow Jonathan Lack on Twitter!Follow Sean Chapman on Twitter!

Chatting With Sherri welcomes back John Alsedek and Dana Perry-Hayes  to chat about Suspense! The original SUSPENSE Featured a virtual who’s-who of Hollywood royalty, SUSPENSE ran for an unprecedented 20 years and 900-plus episodes before finally going off the air on September 30th, 1962- a date that is widely considered the end of radio’s ‘Golden Age’.  Fifty years later, John C. Alsedek and Dana Perry-Hayes revived the series, with all-new stories and a style reminiscent of the original without being a copy.   It has also been nominated three times for the Peabody Awards, as well as for the Parsec Awards, the Young Artists Awards, and the Young Entertainer Awards.  'Pioneer' is from our 100th episode. It stars Carolina Ravassa and Anjali Bhimani from the hit multi-player game 'Overwatch', as well as Adrienne Wilkinson and several other regulars.  'A Night in the Life', which is one of our 'Kitty Divine' episodes- while most of our shows are standalones, the Kitty episodes (we do one a season) are sequential. They star  Adrienne Wilkinson as a 1950's burlesque star/cat burglar, and are very tongue-in-cheek. *'Duet' (w/Fredericka Meek and Amy Pemberton from 'Legends of Tomorrow') *'The Voice of the World' (w/master impressionist Mark Silverman and 2-time regional Emmy winner Kevin Wing) *'Keepers of the Twilight' (w/Lee Meriwether and Lizzie Gracen) 'The Voice of the World' is the final episode of Season 4.

The Boyz of OUTSpoken talk to Bruce Vilanch and Jeffery Johns creator of “Waiting in the Wings”OUTSpoken Jeffrey A Johns started singing and dancing ever since he was old enough to walk and talk. In fact, he was performing in his church choir before he even knew how to read! At a young age he performed in local theatre and the oldest running Minstrel Show in the world. I guess it’s no surprise that Jeffrey still loves the music of Vaudeville. When he wasn’t on stage, Jeffrey was a competitive swimmer and a Boy Scout. To many people’s surprise, this song and dance guy eventually earned the rank of Eagle Scout. After high school Jeffrey went off to college and continued studying theatre, but decided he also wanted to focus on children’s entertainment. He graduated from Manhattanville College with a degree in Elementary Education and Performance. Following college, Jeffrey moved to California where he was performing at Disneyland, with regional theater companies, on national/international tours, sweeping movie theatre floors, and living off peanut butter and jelly while enjoying the life of an actor. Eventually he headed to Las Vegas performing with the cast of Naked Boys Singing and Tony ‘n Tina’s Wedding at the Planet Hollywood. With his return to California, Jeffrey continued to performing in theatre, but also started working in film and television. He appeared several times on America’s Got Talent and a variety of television series, web-series, and feature films. He wrote a children’s book entitled, “Have You Ever Tried To Stop The Rain?” and the feature film, Waiting In The Wings: The Musical.   Synopsis: Waiting In The Wings: The Musical is a feature film where two entertainers, destined for the big time, are mismatched in a casting office from two very different online contests. He has co-authored twenty-three Academy Award spectacles, winning two writing Emmys in the process (almost as good a nominee/win ratio as Meryl Streep’s). He has also been nominated for seven other Emmys — one of them was for his participation on the celebrity panel of HOLLYWOOD SQUARES, where he resided for six years just to the left of Whoopi on your screen. For two years, he starred on Broadway and the road as Edna Turblad, Baltimore’s most glamorous plus-sized tootsie, in the musical HAIRSPRAY. His one-man show, ALMOST FAMOUS – he had that title first, dammit – was a big hit a few years before that. He is so well-known as a provider of comic material for other performers that Harvey Weinstein made a documentary about it (during the Miramax years). GET BRUCE features comic deconstructions by such Vilanch collaborators as Bette Midler, Billy Crystal, Robin Williams, Whoopi Goldberg and a roster of others from Michael Douglas (soon to be seen as Liberace!) to Nathan Lane to Paul Reiser to Lily Tomlin to Shirley MacLaine. In addition to the Oscars, he has co-written many Tonys, Emmys, Grammys, Peoples Choice, American Comedy Awards, TV Land Awards, SAG Awards, and a ton of other pageants, roasts, tributes and various trumped-up reasons for people to enjoy t&a on a red carpet. Many of his collaborators have gone to Broadway with his material, including Diana Ross, Michael Feinstein and Michael Buble’ and the late Peter Allen, whose stage shows he wrote and subsequently re-wrote for Hugh Jackman when he played Peter in THE BOY FROM OZ. He has co-authored multiple dozens of variety television shows and actually put words in the mouth of Cher. People recognize him a lot – some think he’s Michael Moore, but no – from his appearances on MILLIONAIRE MATCHMAKER, CELEBRITY FIT CLUB (where he lost 21 lbs, which he subsequently found), THE WORLD’S DUMBEST CRIMINALS, THE 100 MOST SHOCKING MOMENTS IN SHOW BUSINESS, LIVE WITH REGIS & ELLY (where he shaved his beard to play Edna), JIMMY KIMMEL LIVE, THE VIEW, THE JOY BEHAR SHOW, MATCH GAME (a special version hosted by Ricki Lake) and a raft of others. He’s also a lyricist, scoring gold and platinum records for disco songs he wrote for Eartha Kitt (WHERE IS MY MAN?) and Village People. Pre-HAIRSPRAY, geeks of all ages will remember him as Weird Wendon, the evil emperor with a big head but no body, in ICE PIRATES, or in THE MORNING AFTER (with Jane Fonda). Musical theatre geeks will remember him as the co-author of the Broadway misfire called PLATINUM, which was revived off-Broadway last season for reasons which continue to mystify Bruce.

This morning we wonder what some people have against fangirls, we talk to our old friend Dr. Travis Langley, PhD (author of Batman and Psychology, A Dark and Stormy Knight), and - drumroll please - we finally share the entire uncut Lee Meriwether (Miss America 1955, the original silverscreen Catwoman, and a long celebrated career of film, TV, and stage) interview!

Take some time this week to remember your original happy hour: Saturday mornings as a kid, waking up at dawn, jumping on the couch with a bowl of chocolate cereal, turning on the ‘toons, tuning out the outside world, and working your way into a sugar hangover before noon. This week we talk fondly about good B movies and campy television, from Plan 9 to Batman The Series to Monsters to Sharknado to our new favorite, Slient But Deadly (now out on DVD and coming soon to Netflix!). We talk to the movie's director/co-writer/co-producer/co-star Jason Lockhart (The Casting Couch) and, yet again, to Jacqui Holland, who happens to be the movie's co-writer/co-producer/co-star as well, about their baby. Also, a small taste of our long interview with living legend Lee Meriwether (the silver screen's original Catwoman!) about her experiences on the Silent But Deadly set.

Part 1 of my conversation with guest Ric Dube as we dissect an episode of a classic 1970s detective show. I've also got the Bonehead of the Week and music from The Night Marchers and Divine Fits. Show notes: - Recorded at More Lost Time world HQ - Inspired by MST3K and Rifftrax, we're commenting while watching video - Watch the episode along with us at the CompCon YouTube channel - Dube apologizes for his last booze-soaked appearance on the show - Barnaby Jones was a spinoff of the private investigator drama Cannon - We're watching the first episode of the series - Star Buddy Ebsen was Tin Man in Wizard of Oz and Jed Clampett on Beverly Hillbillies - A Quinn Martin production - Cool theme song - Cannon's perpetually hungry - Barnaby Jones' son is murdered in the opening scene - Ebsen's performance is flat as a pancake - A modern-day Barnaby Jones would be played by Hugh Laurie - "You have a rather distinctive silhouette" - Kumar confuses Lee Meriwether with Mary Ann Mobley--a common mistake - Barnaby is decidedly anti-China - "Could I trouble you for a glass of milk?" - Dube: Blackmailers never say goodbye on the phone - By golly, Barnaby figures it all out - The Random '70s Detective Show Plot Generator - Next week, we take on an Aaron Spelling production - Bonehead of the Week Music:The Night Marchers - All Hits Divine Fits - For Your Heart Completely Conspicuous is available through the iTunes podcast directory.
