Hosted by Andrew Quinn and Darren Mooney, this week with special guest David Monaghan and Grace Duffy, The 250 is a (mostly) weekly trip through some of the best (and worst) movies ever made, as voted for by Internet Movie Database Users. New episodes are released every second Saturday at 6pm GMT, with the occasional bonus episode between them. This week, Peter Jackson's King Kong. Vaudeville performer Ann Darrow has just lost her steady gig. A chance encounter with veteran filmmaker Carl Denham presents a unique opportunity. If Denham can stay one step ahead of his investors, he might just make the greatest motion picture that the world has ever seen. Tricking his cast and crew on to a boat, Denham sets sail for adventure, charting a course to the most dangerous location shoot in the history of cinema, a mythical locale described in whispers as "Skull Island." Denham plans to make a star of the island's more iconic inhabitant: the King that they call Kong. At time of recording, it was not ranked on the list of the best or worst movies of all time on the Internet Movie Database.

Hello my name is David Lewis and I am the host of Cinemallennials, a podcast where myself and another millennial watch a classic film ranging from the 1890s to 1969 and discuss its significance and relevance in our world today.   On today's episode of Cinemallennials, I talked with Matt Duffy from ReelGoldRundown on Instagram and TikTok and we talked about a film that transformed visual effects and the media of animation forever, 1933's King Kong. Spielberg, Jackson, Del Toro, and Shigeru Miyamoto all would admit to the fact that their careers would have never reached the heights they have gained if they had never been exposed to the enticing and soul-searching phenomenon, that is King Kong. Whether its revolutionary stop-motion animation, its introduction of the original scream queen, or its ascent to the top of the Empire State Building King Kong is arguably one of the most influential pieces of media of all time King Kong follows the story of adventurer/filmmaker, Carl Denham who stumbles upon a down on her luck actress Ann Darrow and brings her on the trip and terror of a lifetime. After inappropriately interacting with the indigenous peoples on their destination Ann is kidnapped and then sacrificed to the horrific beast that is Kong. For the past 90 years King Kong has capturing audience both old and young as it poses so many questions. So, sit back, relax and try to answer the question: Was it truly beauty that killed the beast? Cinemallennials is a podcast where myself and another millennial are introduced to a classic film for the very first time ranging from the birth of cinema to the 1960s. Myself and my guest will open your eyes to the vast landscape of classic film as we discuss the films' performers,  their performances, those behind the camera, and how they and their films still influence our world today.  Website: https://dlewmoviereview.com/  Social Media: Instagram: @cinemallennials Facebook: facebook.com/dlewmoviereviews/

On Episode 102 of The Film ‘89 Podcast, Steve and Skye are joined by returning guest host and writer for Film ‘89, filmmaker Martin Kessler, to celebrate the 90th anniversary of a monumental classic of cinema, 1933's King Kong. This beloved monster movie from the filmmaking team of Merian C. Cooper and Ernest B. Schoedsack employed then revolutionary stop-motion animation to bring not just the film's titular character to life, but a whole host of dinosaurs and other inhabitants of Skull Island. Featuring the original scream-queen, Fay Wray, as novice actress Ann Darrow, Robert Armstrong as desperate filmmaker Carl Denham and Bruce Cabot as daring sailor, Jack Driscoll, King Kong is arguably the most influential creature feature ever made and is discussed here along with the King Kong's legacy which has spawned a long-running series of films that's still going strong today.

DICAS | 5 grandes Monstros do Cinema Norte-Americano. Hey, guys! The Vault is now under new management—Jimmy From NASA! Yes, after starting a betting pool during Nathan's livestream of Override: Mech City Brawl Friday night and cleaning out the Monster Island Board of Directors, Jimmy became the new host of the podcast but kept Nathan on as his producer. Nathan is still a bit sore about that, as you'll hear, but Jimmy is sure he'll get over it. For his first episode, Jimmy is discussing his favorite unmade Kong film: “Space Kong.” This was a wild idea that came about in the 1960s while Merian C. Cooper was corresponding with comic book publisher Western/Gold Key Comics to produce a comic adaptation of original film and a sequel. This would've featured the children of the original characters and Carl Denham still young from finding the Fountain of Youth. Cooper suggested setting it on another planet with “King Kong reincarnated.” While Jimmy first learned of this lost project through a book written by his (first) flame war nemesis, John LeMay, he showed up that know-it-all by buying Cooper's long lost story treatment for this proposed film on eBay using his newfound wealth. Be the first to hear about it in today's episode! Here's Nathan's transcript of Episode 14. Hello, kaiju lovers! It's an epic episode for an epic movie! No, not that stupid parody film. Nathan is joined by Daniel DiManna, the creator and author of The Godzilla Novelization Project, to discuss Peter Jackson HUGE 2005 remake of King Kong. (Although, Danny had to survive a harrowing trip to Monster Island with the podcast's intrepid producer, Jimmy From NASA, and a certain robot dinosaur to do so). Only Peter Jackson, who was fresh off of The Lord of the Rings, could've made a three hour film about a giant monkey, er, ape. Nathan and Danny do a deep dive into the film's characters, themes, and story while struggling not to get Jack Driscoll and Jack Black confused. They freely admit this is the one giant monster movie that makes them cry. They also learn that the young man named Jimmy in this film may or may not be the podcast's producer. (Confused? Join the club). The Toku Topic is vaudeville since Ann Darrow in this film is a vaudeville performer before getting work on Carl Denham's movie. Nathan promises to not make a habit of producing episodes that cross what Danny calls “the Kurosawa threshold.”  Timestamps: Intro: 0:00-6:08 Entertaining Info Dump: 6:08-15:29 Toku Talk: 15:29-1:55:52 Toku Topic: 1:55:52-2:29:43 Outro: 2:29:43-end © 2020 Moonlighting Ninjas Media Bibliography/Further Reading: “About Vaudeville” (American Masters) “The Heroine Archetype” (Professor Geek) (YouTube) “June Havoc” (Wikipedia) King Kong: The History of a Movie Icon from Fay Wray to Peter Jackson by Ray Morton “King Kong's Melancholy: A Reading of Peter Jackson's King Kong” by Cynthia Erb (from Tracking King Kong: A Hollywood Icon in World Culture, 2nd Edition) Kong Unmade: The Lost Films of Skull Island by John LeMay A Night in Vaudeville (King Kong Blu-Ray) Recreating the Eighth Wonder: The Making of King Kong (King Kong Blu-Ray) “Vaudeville” (New World Encyclopedia) “Vaudeville” (Wikipedia) Wiki Pages on King Kong (2005) –IMDB –Gojipedia –Wikipedia –Wikizilla The post Episode 12: Daniel DiManna vs. ‘King Kong' (2005) appeared first on The Monster Island Film Vault.

It's the Ape-th of February, and that means it's the first of our monthly bonus forays into the world of Ape cinema outside of Planet of the Apes!  And what better place to start than with the most famous ape of them all?  That's right, we're kicking it off with 1933's King Kong, and here to join us is Geoff's sister and classic cinema fan Erin Clarke!  The three of them have a grand ol' time examining this old classic's still-amazing special effects, grizzled old misogynistic seamen, the exhausting day-to-day life of the ol' Kongster, the magic of Carl Denham and his real-life inspiration director Merian C. Cooper, how this movie compares to Peter Jackson's cinematic monster, how Jack Driscoll and Anne Darrow are the WORST, and just DINOSAUR after DINOSAUR after DINOSAUR.  One listen to this podcast and you'll feel like you could scale the Empire State Building yourself!

King Kong is the name of the fictional giant ape, from the fictional Skull Island, who has appeared in several works, most of which bear his name, including the groundbreaking 1933 film, the film remakes of 1976 and 2005, and numerous sequels and paraphernalia. In the original film, the character's name is Kong -- a name given to him by the inhabitants of "Skull Island" in the Indian Ocean, where Kong lived along with other over-sized animals such as a plesiosaur, pterosaurs and dinosaurs. 'King' is an appellation added by an American film crew led by Carl Denham who captures Kong and takes him to New York City to be exhibited. Kong escapes and climbs the Empire State Building (the World Trade Center in the 1976 remake) where he is shot and killed by aircraft. However, "it was beauty who killed the beast," as he only climbed the building in the first place in an attempt to protect actress Ann Darrow (Dwan in the 1976 remake).
